I have had mirena for almost a year now, and have had no side effects. When I first had it put in, I bled for a week in a half straight (my doctor said I might) and since then I have had no period and no negative side effects. I am sorry to hear of those who have had bad experiences. But to those who are thinking about it, just remember everyone reacts different to it. I just wanted to post something good since there are so many bad ones up here.

Hello all - I just wanted to say that when I had Mirena inserted, no one mentioned any negative side-effects. I have several friends who sing its praises - one of the main the reasons I got it. So after the birth of my third and last baby, I had it put in. I was fine for a while, but after about 5-6 months I noticed the greasy skin and acne (even under my arms! Sorry if TMI!), weight gain around my waste and nagging anxiety and depression. I took Tryptophan at night to sleep, or I probably would have had insomnia, but nothing would help the stubborn anxiety/depression. I went to three diff. doctors including an allergist to get everything tested. I was all-good except now I know I'm allergic to dust - who isn't!? So my last resort was to take the Mirena out. I was all prepared for a fight w/ the gyn to have it removed, but she said actually a lot of women have the same complaints?!?! Really wish I'd known this BEFORE I had it put it. It's been five days now and the bleeding has started and I'm pretty tired. Feels like a regular period. I have had glimses of my old self, but am not completely there yet. Hoping to see a full recovery soon. And I too think that just because you're having a great experience with Mirena, doesn't mean it's for everyone and that websites like this one are a joke. Everyone's bodies are different. I just think you just have to weigh your options and be fully informed before you decide.

I have had my Mirena for about nearly 8 years now and have been experiencing all of the below listed side effects. Headaches, Blurred Vision, Dizziness, Back Aches, , Hair thinning, Mood Swings, Loss of Sex Drive, and the newest thing.my option picked up some worrying eye problems.
I have been to a specialist and he wants me to have an urgent cat scan
I have seen that this problem he thinks it is pseudotumour cerebri but can not rule out the dreaded brain tumor. On reading up about pseudotumour have found it connected to the Mirena coil.I put the other problems down to pre menopause or just a problem with my contact lens/prescription needing renewing.
Anybody have any thoughts or experience of this?

I was prescribed Advair one month ago. It was great at first, but after a jog one day only two weeks ago, I noticed a dry cough. I went to the doctor and I hadn't linked the cough to the Advair yet. He kept me on the Advair since I sang its praises. I then looked up the side effects and realized my cough was due to the Advair. I've stopped using the Advair. I still have the cough, but I'm hoping it will go away. I never had the cough before, only shortness of breath. I am feeling a bit dizzy, and my throat hurts a bit.

I'm wondering if the cough and sore throat will go away. I've only been off Advair for 5 days. We'll see!!! Thanks everyone for posting. This has beena great help to me.

I have been on Singulair for nine years and I thank Merck for discovering and manufacturing it. I also thank my doctor for prescribing it to me. I have my life back! I had asthma so bad I was on high dose inhaled steroids and Albuterol. I had a nebulizer on my kitchen table and a drawer full of Albuterol in my refrigerator. Like clock work I would wake up wheezing and gasping for air and have to administer myself a treatment at 4 am every morning. I would try to exercise and I would wheeze and cough. I then went on Singulair and my nebulizer has been in the basement for at least 9 years, I have the drawer back in my refrigerator too. I exercise now and even ran my first race last summer without needing an inhaler. Thank God for Singulair. I am not going to die from my asthma.

There are so few choices to treat asthma and allergies and all the medications have problems like an FDA black box warning for increased death on Salmeterol(I stopped taking that) which is in Advair and emotional disturbances with steroids and increased suicide risk with Zyrtec which is now over the counter.

I do feel sorry for Cody's parents. It must be tragic to lose a child. My heart does go out to them. However looking rationally at this story, there seems to be a whole side missing. The news story did not mention anything about Cody's past history on the news. Did he ever have signs of depression? Was there an interview with his doctor? Was he having problems with friends at school? Was he into any drugs or adolescent games? Teenage boys also have the highest rate of suicide, medicines aside.

With all due respect, I never saw any of Cody’s friends or teachers be interviewed. Maybe this did happen and I missed this but I watched the news cast videos. Could there be more to this story that is purposefully being edited out or just not asked?

I never believe the media fully. They are very irresponsible and inaccurate at times.
If you read the product information of any drug including aspirin you would never want to take it. The truth is that many times the benefits of drugs out weigh the risks. I know I will keep taking my Singulair because I do not want to die of asthma sucking on inhalers like my mother did.

I was taking 75 mgs daily and still felt nervous, but completely myself. after I told my doctor, she upped my dosage to 150 mgs. for about a month, I felt really weird, and totally disconnected. After a month though, I felt a lot better. I haven't had any other symptoms since then.

Hello Ladies,

I haven't posted on this site for about 2 years but thought I'd re-tell my story for anyone new who is suffering the debilitating effects of Yasmin...particluraly those searching the net to try an understand what is wrong with them.

So here goes...I had been on Yasmin for a year and a half with no obvious side effects (was 27 at the time). If anyone had asked me what I thought of it during this time, I'd have sung it's praises. Then after this time my world came crashing down around me. I started having major panic attacks, vertigo, disturbing/irrational/suicidal thoughts, and depression. I lost about 7kg over 3 weeks...became a recluse...a shell of my former self. Prior to this I have always been a healthy well adjusted, and most of all positive person who had every reason to go on being happy. I had no history whatso ever of the above conditions...it is for these reasons I began researching (at the same time starting seeing a psychologist as I was sure I had developed a late onset mental illness)...My family were in great distress as there seemed to be no explanation for my sudden and obvious decline.

One day I was absolutely desperate...I prayed for help whilst I was on my computer and it suddenly occured to me (gift from above) to look up 'Yasmin side effects'...I found this website and my life changed. I still remembering crying into the screen as I read other women's stories describing in detail what I had been going through. I immediately stopped taking Yasmin. Within 4 days my depression lifted, as did the vertigo.

It has now been 2 years since I stopped Yasmin. Every month off Yasmin you start to feel remnants of your true self return. Anxiety has been the most difficult ongoing struggle since Yasmin, but that has improved 99%. I have been seeing a naturopath to help my body recover...as the other ladies have mentioned Yasmin depletes your body of so many vital nutrients. It also takes a while for your hormones to re-balance.

In the first 6 months off Yasmin I relied on reading posts from this site to get me through it. I am always heartened by the support I received from complete strangers during this tough time. I see my life as 'pre and post Yasmin' now....I am a much stronger person because of it...by far the most challenging and terrifying time of my life. But I would not wish my experience on my worst enemy. I emailed every woman I know my story and asked that they pass it on to every woman they know in turn...we need to broadcast that this pill is pure poison. There should be no debating to be done if you are thinking of or are on Yasmin...stop taking it immediately, and get help in the recovery process.

I wish everyone a blessed and healthy 2007.

Good luck and big hugs xxx

I've been taking Singulair for almost 7 months, during which I have been only singing its praises. My asthma symptoms completely vanished and my seasonal allergies have been very much under control. However, I'm beginning to notice a pretty constant state of lightheadedness and just in the past few days there have been times when I thought I would faint. In retrospect, I've had a great deal of trouble sleeping through the night. I've also started to get some skin itchiness that I never had before. I'm going off Singulair right away and see how that makes me feel.

Hi!

Wow. I cannot echo enough praises for this website! If it was not for this website, and all of your informative posts, I would have never known that the solution to my problems would be as simple as switching birth control! I was on Yasmin for about 3 1/2 months (I have been off for a week now), and although I didn't notice any side effects right away, about a month ago I started having (1) back pain (2) leg pain (3) tingling/numbness in my limbs (4) heart palpitations and shortness of breath to the point I almost passed out several different times (5)trouble sleeping (6)emotionally fragile, and then about three weeks ago, my feet and ankles started swelling and were incredibly painful.

I was searching the internet, desperate to know what was wrong with me and typed in "swelling feet" and one website mentioned that birth control could be a cause. From there I typed in "Yasmin and swelling feet" and it brought me to this website, where I found EVERY SINGLE one of my symptoms had been experienced by at least one other person on Yasmin. I immediately called my obgyn and mentioned my side effects and teh website, and he took me off the pill and I'm now in a "detox" stage. Already I feel A TON better. My feet stopped swelling almost immediately, and although they aren't completely back to normal, they are very close to being there, and are getting better every day. All of my other symptoms have since subsided as well.

The only problem I'm encountering now are symptoms from "withdrawal" of being off the pill -- bad headaches and I'm exhausted all the time.

Can't wait to have this drug out of my system!!

STOP TAKING THIS PILL NOW AND PRINT OUT THIS WEBSITE AND SHOW TO YOUR OBGYN!!!!!! That is what I plan on doing on Fri. I am 27 yrs. old and have been on Yasmin for 2 yrs. Until I found this website, I thought that there was something seriously wrong with me and there is- This UNSAFE BIRTH CONTROL PILL. Over the past year I have experienced terrible panic attacks, anxiety, not to mention what I thought was colitis...daily stomach cramps, gas and diahrea, terrible nausea in the days directly following my last pill in my pack, heart palipitations, 5 UTI's in the past year, and about 7 yeasties, you name it. I began to suspect it was the yasmin recently when I realized that I have never experienced any of these problems before in my life, I was always healthy and happyand I was not taking any other medications. This is the only drug that I have been pumping into my body daily. It may as well have been poison at this point. I feel as if a lot of my life in the past year has been taken form me and it really pisses me off that they get away with marketing and selling this pill. It is important to give this evidence to your doctor when you go to see them. Do not let them tell you that it "may not be the right pill for you" It is not the right pill for anyone!!!! My very good friend began taking yasmin 5 months ago and in the last 4 mos. has had terrible migranes to the point where she has gone to see a neurologist. These pharm. companies just want to make money...they send reps out to doctor's offices and sing its praises and so doctors are none the wiser until we start to show them evidence that this pill is dangerous...doctors have other doctor friends that they will share this information with and so on and so on. If the FDA will not take it off the market, the doctors will at least stop perscribing it. Don't let others suffer as we have...
