My daughter had just about every reaction mentioned above. She was being treated for an acute flare of SLE (Lupus in the worst form.) Not only did she lose her kidneys (19 yrs old, second year in Pre-med at Baylor University. She began seeing strange "black ghosts" while in CCICU. The nurse talked to the Doc, he says oh, its only "ICU Psychosis". What??? She wasn't hallucinating, just strange vision. The came the pressure in her head. No one bothered to call in an Optho, so they did Lumbar Puncture after Lumber Puncture. They released us with the pressures still high. Suddenly, my baby sat up and said "Mother is my right eye open?" It was...I jumped into action, got her to a local doc who sent us running to Houston...my daughter lost all of her sight in her right eye and most of it iin her left, she has no peripheral vision or color in the tiny bit of vision she has. The depression is killing her. Her doctor says "yeah, it happend...200 out of 1000. Can you imagine..all he had to do was has a doc use his little light, look behind her eyes and my precious daughter would be simply waiting on a kidney and then back to medicine. Please don't let this happen to you or a loved one...insist that they call in an eye doctor. Our lives will never be the same.

I have been on Depakote 1000mg x2 daily for 2 months now. I am experiencing really itchy skin so bad i can break the skin. Also my appetite has increases loads and i'm tired a lot of the time.
I take it for personality disorder and i think i have noticed a slight change in my moods, i'm more stable and not so impulsive and don't feel the need to self harm so much.

Thank you so much for all the information! My son was prescribed Singulair pills this fall. He has been taking them for seasonal allergies and we had no problems. These were the sample chewable kind. Then came the pills... Unfortunately I did not see the news or read the article about the side affects of Singulair. Within 4 days my happy well adjusted 10 year old had serious sleeping problems along with stomach aches. He will wake up screaming and crying and cannot tell me what is wrong. He said he had a nightmare but doesn't remember what it was about.
My husband was away on a business trip when I started him on the medicine. He came back to a very unhappy and sleepy child. I asked my son what he was scared of and he asked me to tell daddy that he does not feel safe while he is out of town. He can't sleep unless he is by one of us. He's not safe. His bedroom is 15' from our bedroom! He loves his doctor and begged that I call Dr. Becky so he can talk to her.
I could not take this anymore and started thinking about what was wrong. I went through all his activities, friends he's played with, school problems, anything! Then it hit me, effects of Singulair!
Wow, what an eye opener. Fortunately my husband did not have him take it this morning. He will not be going back to this medication. Ever!
Thank you for the information once again. I hope everyone's child gets better. Everyone wants a happy well child. No child should have to go through this. They have enough pressure as it is without the meds making things worse.

Okay....Sorry ladies, I'm Hi-Jacking your women's only postings on Mirena for one second.
My daughter just e-mailed me a few minutes ago to tell me that she was considering having this Mirena inserted to try and help her with her very bad menstrual cramps that she has had for years. The Doctors, and there have been many, haven't been able to figure out WHY she's had so much pain over the years during her period. Then she talks to this lady that said she had the Mirena inserted recently, and it had helped her with her endometriosis. Which is what we think is wrong with my daughter. She has all of the symptoms of endometriosis, along with all of the menstrual problems as well.
But me, being a concerned Father, I always do research on everything before I try it or buy it. Or if any of the members of my family that are interested in trying or buying anything, i do the research. The internet is a Godsend for that purpose alone!
However, after reading all of these posting from you ladies willing to share all of the side effects that y'all have experienced, I'm going to suggest to my precious daughter, that keep searching for her miracle cure and not have this Mirena inserted. She's got enough problems without the problems that this Mirena seems to be causing for most of you.
Much Thanks to all of your ladies that have shared your problems that have resulted from this Mirena!
Blessings to you all!

My precious daughter, Trinity, aged 5, had UTI symptoms, and I took her to urgent care on 7/1/09...she took her first dose at 3pm on 7/1, and about 4.5 hrs. later said her head hurt on the top of her head (almost has NEVER complained of her head hurting her whole life!). Then, today, 7/2, she has been having lots of eye discomfort and pain and has red eyes (poss. from fever?), and the most striking symptom after taking sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim DS is that she says she feels VERY sick and has been about to cry and just looks at me pleadingly and says her stomach hurts. Also, she cannot eat much. She says she wants to eat, but she can't. She has felt like she wants to throw up, but hasn't yet. ATTENTION: Go to http://www.remedy-bladder-infection.com/children.html and you can use a NATURAL URIBIOTIC derived from fruit that the e.coli is attracted to, binds to it, and then is detached from your urinary tract walls, and can be washed out by your urine. I will NOT be giving her anymore of this, as I know it wipes out the beneficial AND the bad bacteria from her intestines, and 80% of the immune system is in the intestines! I was just afraid cause she was so sick, and I thought these antibiotics were the best thing to use...I just tonight found the sight about the URIBIOTICS! Try those! I will protect my daughter from this!
