I've had asthma since I was a teenager, and about 9 years ago I went to an allergy and asthma specialist and had the whole gamet of tests run to find out why my allergies and asthma were worsening. I was prescribed Advair, Albuterol, Prednisone, & Servient. At the time, these were the only medications I was taking and never experienced any severe side effects. My asthma was much better and by my one year check up, I had almost completely stopped using the Albuterol for sudden attacks. Due to my graduation from college, I was no longer covered under my parents insurance and due to the cost of the medications, discontinued my treatments. I felt fine, hadn't had any attacks or breathing episodes, so I felt I could do this without any problems.
Fast forward to this summer. My asthma symptoms had returned and my PCP put me back on the Albuterol. It helped the sudden attacks, but I was blowing through an inhaler in a month. Last week I found myself in my local urgent care center, barely able to breathe, gasping for breath. I'm 31 years old with an almost one year old. They gave my 3 breathing treatments and prescribed Prednisone (only 5 days worth), Albuterol, and the Advair. After a week on the Advair, I feel so strange. I haven't had to use my fast acting inhaler since last week, but I feel like my heart is going to jump right out of my chest. I have a constant headache, a weird ache in my right arm, can't sleep even though I am exhausted, and my mind is constantly racing. It's like I can't slow down. After reading all these crazy side effects and comparing them with my own, I'm stopping the Advair. I have an apt. with my asthma specialist in 2 weeks and I will be sure that he doesn't put me back on this med. It's awful...can't imagine taking any drug with a side effect of death.

I was dianosed with an immune disorder of the inner eye. It was advanced enough that regular treatments were not effective. So the dr. started me at 60 mg of prednisone and started to taper it off at 20 mg. every 2 weeks. At 6 weeks, it was observed that my symptoms had reappeared and so he started back at 60 and the tapering was much, much slower (50 mg, 40 mg 30 mg 25 mg 20 mg 15 mg 10 mg 7.5 mg 5 mg 2.5mg) the first week I had panic attacks and wanted to physically attack people. I couldn't sleep. After that I had mood swings, fuzziness, forgetfulness and confusion, all I wanted to do was lay on the couch. I had heart palpitations, moon face (people thought that I'd had dental surgury) went from a size 6 to a size 12. I had terrible yeast infections, and wanted lots of fluid and had frequent urination. It was horrible. By the time I was done (and I had withdrawel symptoms long after I stopped taking it) I'd lost 2 years to the side effects. I do get to keep my eyesight. Fair trade, I suppose. In the next year and a half I lost weight down to a size 2, not as good as it sounds, all my muscle tone had gone and I'm having to rebuild from being nearly skeletal. The worst part of it is.. at any time I can be put back on prednisone and will probably choose to over losing my sight. At what point does one have to worry about osteoporosis? How much prednisone for how long effects the bones? There are things I'd like to do, but I'm not sure if I should.

The pediatritian put my 9 year old daughter on Advair 2 weeks ago when her asthma was so bad she could barely function. She took 4 days of prednesone and started on a month's course of Advair. She is now complaining of sore throat and some other vague symptoms (could be some winter ill) and for the last 2 days her legs have been so sore it hurts her to walk. Thankfully, she can breathe now, but I plan to stop the Advair until we can get in with our pediatric allergist.

I have been on prednesone for six days, for recurring virtego, my ENT Doctor prescribed 2 tablets of prednesone twice a day for five days and then tapering off at 2 tablets twice a day for five days and then 1 tablet once day for five days. I'm at the sixth day with 1 tablet of prednesone and my body is all swell up and shakey. I'm unrinating more often than usual. I feel alot better. My dizzy spells were very bad and headaches are gone. I'm not sure whether to keep taking the prednesone as prescribed--my ENT Doctor doesn't know about my side affects yet.

In the last month I was prescribed prednesone when I had went to the doctor after I breathed in some chemicals and my lungs hurt. My first side effect was feeling like I was losing my mind and I was having trouble thinking. I went to the doctor that had prescribed my 3 days of Prednesone and he did blood tests last week. My cholesterol tested high and something called alk phos is high. Are these temporary side effects? I hope so.
