I am glad to have found this site. I was on Yasmin for about 7 years with no problems at all. Since giving birth a year ago I recently went back on it and have had several terrible side affects. Mood swings, tiredness, acne, crazy sweet cravings and nausea all day, every day. I even took a pregnancy test! Having experienced no nausea during my pregnancy it's really thrown me about and I'll be going off it altogether. Having terrible reactions to other pills I tried back before I was prescribed Yasmin, I'm a little scared to try another pill..might be better off getting pregnant again:)

I had the Mirena inserted on May 5, 2005 and just had it removed on Feb 10, 2010. The last 5 years I have been dealing with severe headaches, back pain, fatigue, lack of sex drive, mood swings , depression, numbness in legs and hands, loss of feeling in my hands, I have had my breast ducked clog, I felt pregnant.I never bleed the whole time I was on the IUD and I would always ask the doctor if that was okay and he would say yes and to be safe I would make them do a pregnancy test it would be negative. I went to my obgyn doctor more than once regarding the problems and I always got told it had nothing to do with IUD. It was because I was so small or some other excuse. My husband went with me many time because in the very beginning the strings would poke him, so the doctor cut them back. My husband for the last 4 years has said the that IUD was my problem.Since I have had it removed my sex drive has returned and the headaches aren't as bad. But now my breast are tender and I feel like I have to pee all the time. I feel like am pregnant and I am not. I have been going to a different doctor for over a month now because I can't take the pain anymore.

I have 3 children. My husband and I have always been able to chat about getting pregnant and poof! the following month a positive pregnancy test. A few years ago, due to circumstances beyond our control, we decided to put off having any more kids for a few years and Mirena seemed like a great option as I cannot take the pill due to migraines. In 10 months, I gained 30 pounds, acne like a 13 year old girl and my sex drive all but vanished. After removal in March of 2009, I thought I would eventually go back to normal in a few months. Shortly after, we decided that it might be time to have another baby. It has been 11 months and despite ovulation tracking and charting, nothing. I have been off the Mirena longer than I had been on it so it's not what my doctor says that I need time to work the hormones out. I saw nothing in the literature that said infertility except as a result of PID which I did not develop. I have seen a number of blogs from women who were able to get pregnant very easily right away but I have had no luck. We are now looking into adopting or fostering. I am more sorry than I can say that I gave this method a chance.

I have been on Loestrin 24 for one month. I switched from Ocella when it no longer was a generic medication and went from $15.00 to $65.00 a month. I had been on Yasmin for 4 years, switched to Ocella for one year. My experience on Loestrin started out normal. Then I started noticing my sense of smell became more heightened. Then I broke out with pimples around my collar bone and upper chest. I did not have a decreased sex drive in the beginning, but now that I am one month in, I'm noticing a big difference. I took the 24 pills and expected to get my period within 2-3 days after taking the last one as normal. I started cramps and back pain as normal, still no period. Day 4 I decided to take a pregnancy test- not pregnant it says. So I waited two more days- Day 6 (today) I took another one- still Not Pregnant.. hmm.. After reading everyone elses side effects and opinions on this pill, it makes me want to go back to my old medication and just pay more, at least I will know that my body will be back to normal. I am not pleased at all with what this birth control has done for me. Call me old fashion, but I believe it is only normal for woman to have a period every month. Prior to the invention of birth control that is how it used to be. Well as of now, I am very unsatisfied with this product.

I just can't understand. I had my first one placed in May 2005 at my 6 week check up after having my 2nd son. I loved it, I never felt it, never had any side affects, concerns or problems with it. I had to go in December 2009 to have it replaced, because my new insurance for 2010 wasn't going to pay for me to get a new one....so loved it before should love the new one....right? WRONG! I had it placed 12-22-09...passed out on the table with the removal and insertion of a new one.....had pain, cramps and HEAVY bleeding (normally periods before were like 1 day-2 at the most, light and easy on me). Doctor even did an ultrasound to make sure that he didn't punture my uterus in the process.....they said everything looked good. I thought it would be ok, well the pain cramps, fatigue, pregnancy symptoms start in early January and then the damn thing falls out on 1-22-2010!!! I have felt worse since it came out than I ever did with the first one in. The Dr said, we can't place a new one until 2 weeks from it coming out and you have a normal period and then pass a pregnancy test, well, that's been 3 weeks and the Dr hasn't seen me, won't call me back and hasn't do blood tests, all pregnancy tests keep coming back negative, but I can't shake the pregnancy symptoms. My husband and I are ok with the possibility of having another baby; but I'm angry that mine was in and fine for years and now I've had nothing but trouble and NO SUPPORT from my Dr or his staff to help me with my concerns. I feel thrown to the wind and am ready to find a new doc. Still don't know if I'm pregnant or if it's my brain messing with my body. I won't be able to have another one, might be a good idea after reading what you all have had to say.......but, I'm too young to do anything permanent and nothing else works for my body. allergy to condoms (trust me, all types); spermicide too. My husband said, if you go back on BC pills, we will end up divorced; sounds silly, but they tear me up worse than anything. I truly thought that I had found my saving grace in the mirena. I feel so defeated.

After giving birth to my third child, I decided to have the IUD (the one w/o the hormones), but after receiving it I started bleeding uncontrollably. I went through about 7-8 pads per day and I also had on tampons with them. Eventually, I talked to my doctor and had it removed. But out of fear of having another child I decided to get the Mirena (the one with hormones). Everything was fine at first. The insertion of it was cool. I had no pain. But about two weeks later, I started bleeding, I bled for about two months, which I had no problem with because I didn't have to worry about the fear of becoming prego again. As time passed, however, I started having really bad mood swings and feeling down all the time, my hair is falling out (it used to be down to the middle of my back but now its only shoulder length), I started having pain down in my pelvic area. I also have pregnancy symptoms and I have a period like every other two months. I haven't had one since X-mas. I always feel bloated and I have gained over 25lbs since getting it in 2007. and the bad part about it is that I hardly even eat anything. I always feel full like i've been eating all day. The only thing that I can honestly say is good about the Mirena is that when I do have a period, its lighter and I only bleed about 2-3 days. But lately i've been thinking about having it removed because I cant deal with the excessive weight gain, hair loss, and pregnancy symptoms, including nausea and vomiting, and bloating.

I have had mirena for about a year now. Now before I had it I had my baby in Aug 08. Before I had my baby I was a size 7. Never had to worry about my weight. Always had my monthly for about 3 days and always on time. So after I did have all the bleeding for about 5 months with all the cramping and bloating. I called the Dr every week only to hear that it was normal. One night I went to the ER had them check everything to make sure that it was ok. I was having problem like a yeast infection. But they said nothing was wrong with me and maybe I was just overreacting. So I just went home. After that I still bleed at least 3 days a week. Still with all of that I have lose my sex drive. I do not have sex with my husband. If we do, I just want to do it for him. My stomach pain is horrible. I am always cramping no matter if I am bleeding or not. I have had other birth control in the past. But never had so many problems. When I was on the Depo I started right after I had my first child. It work great but after having it for about 4 years I started to have pain in my breast. So the doctor took me off of it. I was happy because we wanted to have more children. I didn't have any problems getting off of it. I have a 7year old girl and a 18month old boy now.I also have gain so much weight. I weigh 175lbs and am a size 13. I cant lose the weight. I have tried working out, taking over the counter weight lose pills, eating different( by the way always ate good food). So now its been a year and I finally have not bleed in over a month but now my husband and I am worried that we are pregnant. I dont know what to do because we dont want anymore children. Im still having cramps and back pain but I have that every time Im pregnant in the beginning. I have tried to call the Dr and make an appointment but they just say that I am not( but will not make the appointment to make sure). Now reading that women have lots of problem with it I am SCARED. I even had a co-worker tell me that her sister had Mirena and she got pregnant. Not just that but when she had the baby it was born with it in his hand. They had to have it surgically removed. When I say SCARED I am. I do not know what to do! I want to have it taken out. What will happen if I am pregnant? What will happen if I get it out and have more problems? I dont know what to do and need some advice. I dont have a mother to go to and need some other women to help me with these problem? I am 27years old, married and have two kids, work very hard and dont have any time for another child but we dont know what to do. PLEASE HELP ME AND MY FAMILY! Email me ****** put subject MIRENA Thank you

I started this pill about 3 weeks ago. I absolutely love it, at first I was hungry all the time but now I'm back to normal. I also have not had any spotting. I haven't skipped any pills but on the 2nd week I was using the withdrawal technique I'm wondering if there's still a chance of me getting pregnant? my boyfriend and I are absolutely paranoid, I can't seem to figure out how effective it is in the first month.

I have been on here before and posted symptoms I was having after I had Mirena inserted. I had Mirena in for 10 months and without me even knowing it, my MIRENA FELL OUT and I GOT PREGNANT. My doctor had cut the strings because my husband could feel them and I was never told to check my strings by anyone at the office. Even if I had been told to, I wouldn't have been able to find it because it was cut so short. I was having pregnancy symptoms and my husband made me get a pregnancy test. We already have 3 daughters, so this was a big shock when it said positive. I was scared to death and called my doctor immediately. They got me in for an ultrasound first thing the next morning and it showed NO MIRENA, but I was 4 WEEKS PREGNANT. I was just relieved that my pregnancy wasn't in my tubes (which would've resulted in emergency surgery or a ruptured tube) and that the Mirena would have to be removed if it was still in place (which has a high rate of miscarriage of the baby after Mirena was removed) This is very scary and I want all of you to make sure you CHECK YOUR MIRENA STRINGS WEEKLY, ESPECIALLY AFTER YOUR PERIOD. The only thing I can figure out is I pulled it out attached to my tampon during my last period. I felt nothing....I never saw it, it just disappeared. Now we are having a baby we didn't plan for and can't afford. We will cope, we just wish someone had warned us instead of saying it is 99.9% accurate, because that's wrong and now I'm pregnant and can't do anything about it.

I had Mirena put in at my 6 wk post-partum March 2006. No major issues until now, I am all of a sudden over the past weekend having a very low abdominal bloating, cramping, some left side pain, and now bleeding. The bleeding is not heavy but is thick and varies from pink to brown. I have a appt on Monday with my PCP for a check and I am seriously considering having it removed. I also have had increased headache patterns, muscle aching/stiffness, and MOODINESS! I did also take a pregnancy test just to make sure this wasn't a miscarriage. I do have a clotting disorder and Mirena was the only alternative I was offered for birth control, due to all others are too much of a risk for me. I am so very worried and confused!!!

Right as I stated the other day I was having the Mirena removed today and I have..my Doctor wasn't happy but luckily I don't have to wait and see and OB/Gyn like most of you seem to..I have had light bleeding but it is only day one we will see how it goes! I actually had a pregnancy test as the nausea was getting much worse and I am 48! I have had quite a few smears lately as I have had unusual discharge and smell, only a ph imbalance apparently but my Doctor says that should now clear up. And to top it all off it was such an easy removal that she thinks it may have slipped from where it should have been and that was why I was having such trouble adjusting to it! Good luck to everyone else.

I switched from Yasmin because I was starting to feel like I was going crazy! My Dr. gave me some samples of Loestrin 24. Within the first week I noticed some side effects:
Horrible headache
Nausea
Extreme bloating! The worst ever! My whole stomach was bloated!
Insomnia
Depression
I tried to convince myself that it was all in my head, but when I was going on week three of the meds and I was only staring to feel worse. Also around week three I began spotting, it wasn't that bad tho.
So I got online and read other peoples descriptions of this drug and decided not to finish out my pack. I've been off of them for a week, still have not gotten my period, took a pregnancy test and it was negative, but I am still nauseaded, and having awful headaches. NOT WORTH IT!

I have been on loestrin 24 fe for about a month and a half and I haven't had a period. I took two pregnancy test both came back negative. However, I am experiencing tender breasts and cramps--but no period. I did experience slight weight gain in my face. For the first few weeks I experienced nausea and throwing up...of course by this time I am thinking I am pregnant because this has never happened to me before. This may sound crazy, but, I WANT MY PERIOD BACK! LOL! This is the only way I know for sure that I am not pregnant and that my body is properly getting rid of toxins as our bodies were designed to do! I am now going to try the IUD...but I don't know for how long. Does anyone know if thats a better choice?

i have had the mirena iud since November 2009. i've experienced just about every side effect listed by others. i'm not sure i like the idea of not having a period every month. mine stopped the first month with the device. will i need to take a pregnancy test each month to ensure the device is working and i'm not pregnant? i think the uncertainty of it all is a little too nerve racking for me. i take vitamins on a daily basis so taking one more pill (birth control) isn't that much of a big deal. i'm going to go back to the pills and revisit the idea of tubal ligation once i feel back to my old self. if i had researched this in depth beforehand, i most likely would have decided against it. can't wait to get back to my old self!

Well I have been taking Loestrin for about 8 or 9 months now I have not experienced any of the crazy side effects that I have been hearing about. Although I have gained weight i just figured it was because I am not eating right. Now my issue is I have not seen my period at all and it is time for me to begin my new pack today!. I did take a pregnancy test and it was negative. I'm going to go ahead and take these pills this month and see if my period come on after this pack is done. If it doesn't Im going to take another pregnancy test and if it is negative then I'm going to the doctor because something is not right. Is there anyone out there experiencing the same thing.

I've been on Loestrin 24 Fe for about 5 months. I got my period irregularly for the first 2 months, and I've missed the last 3 months of my period. I figured it's just the pill, so I stopped taking it. It's now week 2 off of the pill and still no period. I suppose the hormones are still in my body, because I took a pregnancy test, and it was negative. Besides, I'm still a virgin, I just took the test because I was afraid immaculate conception could be the cause. I'm still freaked out, because now I'm beginning to look pregnant. My lower abdomen is poking out like if I were 2-3 months pregnant, but I have no weight gain whatsoever. Other than all of that, this pill has been great. I love having no cramps, but all of this worrying may not be worth it.

Wow! I thought I felt different after starting Yasmin 3 months ago. I can't fall asleep at night, I had a panic attack in the grocery store line, and I have been having leg cramps, shortness of breath, ear pressure, mood swings, and headaches that last 2-4 days causing me to practically OD on Advil. I am a very rational and clam person, I live a normal, happy life with very little stress. I knew I felt different over the past 3 months, so I took a pregnancy test because I was feeling nausea and stomach pains with moodiness and OVEREATING!! I have gained 6 lbs. It came back negative of course, so I decided to google Yasmin side effects and realized I'm not the only one. Thank goodness for the internet, I would've never thought it was the pill itself. I'm stopping Yasmin as soon as my pill pack is up........

I got the mirena put in Jan 09 and had no problems whatsoever! I had reg periods every month and then about a month 2 and half months ago started feeling like maybe I was pregnant! I have 2 other children and was done! I had read how reliable this method was and had to pay 500.00 out of pocket due to insurance not covering this!
I had a reg period july aug sept and then nothing as of nov 20th. Went in for a physical and took a pregnancy test and was positive. Had called the ob three weeks prior and was told not to worry since periods stop with mirena!
When I went to my ob the next day I was told I was 16 weeks pregnant and that they did not see the device! It is not considered high risk (supposedly) but I am very upset I was told this was so reliable and in their booklet they rated this above a vasectomy in effectiveness!
Although I did not have the horrible pain others experienced this is very disturbing to me and also that the device is nowhere in sight?? WOuld love to go in on a class action lawsuit!

I want to begin by explaining my decision to use the Mirena: I had been using the NuvaRing for almost 3 years, and my libido had entirely disappeared. There simply was no trace of it anywhere. A few doctors recommended the Mirena to me as the hormonal structure should not cause the same reduction in libido that the hormone in the NuvaRing caused. Additionally, children are not in my plan for at least the next 3 years and I can't take pills due to gastric problems. I just had the Mirena placed at the end of October, 2009. The placement itself was surprisingly very painful, and upon deployment sent a shooting, numbing pain down my left hip into my left groin. I had to lie on the bed in my OB/Gyn's office for almost 2 hours before I could stand up without losing any sign of a blood pressure and fainting. My doctor was concerned and confused about my reaction, but felt confident that the placement was correct. Regardless, she called 5 different hospitals in the city to get me in within 24 hours for an ultrasound just to be sure. The ultrasound tech explained that the placement was just right and that there was no perforation or broken cysts, or any cysts for that matter other than what would be expected of my normal menstrual cycle. I could not sit upright or lay on my sides or back without significant painful cramping for 3 days. The pain in my left abdomen has become very localized, but worsens into an entire hip ache if I sit for long periods (which I do for work) or press lightly just inside my left hip crest. My moods were variable, which was expected, but my libido improved dramatically, though not to baseline pre-hormonal treatments. I started my period a week earlier than expected, and it caused a sudden extreme cramping that forced me to sleep with a hot water bottle for several days. The period lasted a full two weeks. I explained all of this to my doctor last Thursday, who encouraged me to consider removing it if it persists to be a detriment to my quality of life. Now over the past week, I have been becoming extremely fatigued (REALLY fatigued) with a depressed mood. I was out of the office two days ago with a migraine, which I have never had before. Three days ago, my nipples started getting so sore that I can now no longer lay on my stomach to sleep again because it hurts my breasts so much. I have not gained weight to speak of, yet, but I am beginning to bloat in the abdomen and feel heavy, which may be related to the fatigue. After reading so many shared experiences, I will have this removed and celebrate. (I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to get rid of the hip pain!)

ok. so i usually get my period between the 7th and 10th every month. i am sexually active so i have had sex (dont worry, i used protection) since my last period which was on the 7th. it is now the 1st of December. i started avaine on November 22nd. well im very worried about when im going to get my period and i had sex before i started avaine.. my stomach kinda hurts. i always get pre-cramps before my period. so if im supposed to get my period (according to this pack) in another week or 2, then y am i already having cramps. it scares me that i may be pregnant or something because im getting cramps and no period! i know i gotta wait til im done with this pack but by seeing all these reviews, i might not get my period for 2 months! i haven't had any spotting or mood changes or anything. but i mean with! im freakin worried about being pregnant.. but i dont want to take a test now because its to soon for the test to give me a correct answer. does anyone know that if u take a pregnancy test when ur on this pill that it will show up negative when u might actually be positive? i dont even know when i should take a pregnancy test. im so freaked out right now that i dont even know if my post is making sense. but if anyone knows the answer to my question, please say.

I just started Loestrin last month and was supposed to start my period sometime last week. I haven't started, but two days before I was supposed to start I had dark brown discharge for about two days. I put a tampon in because I just figured it was old blood. I still haven't started and worry I could be pregnant because my boyfriend and I don't use condoms. Haven't taken a pregnancy test yet though because it says to wait a week or so. I am going to take one soon, but don't know if I should just go to doctor and get one.

I have been on Loestrin24 Fe for 1 month. I hate it! I had spotting the second week of my active pills. I have been having bad headaches, abdominal cramps, frequent urination. I have finished the pack and I haven't started my period. I had a light spotting for 1 day on my placebo pills. On tomorrow I will be a week late. I have taken a pregnancy test that came out negative. Is there anyway I could still be pregnant.
