I find the above woman's comment very strange and out of the ordinary. I wonder if perhaps there is something in her diet that is causing such an adverse reaction. Vitamin B's, in high quantities, are exactly what women need. As a pregnant woman, it is B6 that reduces and even eliminates my morning sickness. The proper balance of vitamins and minerals in Optivite ensure the proper ingestion of the B6. Love these vitamins!

At first when I started Loestrin I had headaches - that was the first couple of weeks in the first month I started taking it - after that my body got used to it and they went away, I started taking it to regulate my period and for me it has worked very well, I'm sorry to hear all the bad experiences a lot of women are going through but for me I get my period every 28 days I have no side effects really, I haven't gained any weight but because i don't let the hunger it gives me get to me otherwise that's what makes you gain weight - since they trick your body into making it think you're pregnant that's why you have side effects similar to a pregnant woman. Also, before I started taking it I read the entire booklet that comes w/the pills to know what side effects you may have while on the pill and what risks can occur, I also asked my Dr. tons and tons of questions until I felt comfortable and started taking it.

I am a 33 yr old male with Cystic Fibrosis. I started prednisone in 2006 and as of 2009 i have never been off of it.This drug has destroyed my body. I was under weight when i started, at 130 lbs. I am 5'9'' so i admit that was thin, but know i am at 170 lbs. This has had an effect on my relationship with my girlfriend since i met here when i started taking it. It may actually help me breathe better, but I am not sure. I have decided to stop it myself. I will do so slowly, but i am sick of the way i look and feel. This may sound silly to some but i just hate being in this state. I look like a pregnant woman playing a trumpet. I wonder how long it will take me to look like me again? Good luck to all of you. BK.

Hi. I had the Mirena inserted Sept. 8, 08, just 6 weeks after giving birth to my daughter. So for about 4 months now. The last couple of months in a row, I thought I was pregnant. I have had every symptom I normally have when I get pregnant. Took the tests and of course they came back negative. I have 2 kiddos. I used the Depo shot for b/c until now because the hormones in the Depo kept causing my body to feel pregnant. Thus changing my birth control method. Which is what I told my Dr. They seemed to have left out that the hormones in the Mirena are the same as the Depo! Thanks a lot. Also, I have started gaining some weight. Which I have never done before. I look like I'm 4 months pregnant since I've been on this b/c. I have No sex drive what so ever! Also uncommon. My husband can definitely feel the strings during sex, which is painful for him. I've been getting really bad dizzy spells, like fall over from fainting dizzy spells! I most recently have been getting these horrible pressure headaches. I've never had a migraine, not sure if that's what it is. Not to mention running to the bathroom constantly. I'm peeing like a pregnant woman! I've been way more irritable since. I freak out for no reason. I will cry for no reason, and so on. So I decided to do some research and found out apparently I'm not the only one with these side affects. Thank god. I scheduled an appointment to have mine removed on Jan, 22. I can't wait until then. Thank you everyone who has posted on here. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

Has anyone gotten pregnant while taking Celexa? Will it affect the baby and will I have to stop using Celexa?

I have to agree...I have gained 5 pounds plus on Loestrin 24 since I started taking it in March. I am very petite...4'11" tall...and that amount of weight makes an enormous difference on my frame! Also I get cravings like a pregnant woman, and trust me I AM NOT PREGNANT! This week it was powered doughnuts and Cheez-It that I had to have. I never eat junk like that and get out of control with it. I did this time! I feel bloated a lot too, but nothing like some of you have mentioned. Just abdominal bloating, and it comes and goes.
My biggest complaint other than that is of vaginal dryness. I used to lubricate fine naturally. Now I have to use KY regularly during sex with my bf. It's annoying really...to have to stop what you're doing and put on lubricant.
I am doing my best to just deal with this stuff. I'm close to 40, and got on Loestrin cuz I was bleeding between my periods. Well that stopped, and I went from a 7-day to a 2-day period each month. LOVING THAT! I think 'm just going to try and stick it out. If I gain much more weight though I'm calling the doc!

Been having trouble with bleeding after sex....it's not harder than usual or rough or anything. (I know, TMI) but this last time the bleeding refused to stop. I have extreme pain in my back and my left side, I can't sit or stand, i can only lie down. I called my OBGYN and she said she wouldn't worry...oh and she can get me in on May 20th...it is the 2nd now, and I'm telling you this is unbearable.
I, too have experienced extreme moodiness. I will go off on my children and husband for no real reason. I never thought there cold be another reason for this, who would think birth control could do this to you? I do know that i was not this person before having Mirena inserted.
I am calling my doctor to see when I can have this removed. And if she can't/won't do it soon, I am going to someone who can.

I had Mirena in for about 10 months due to being 35, a smoker and in a fantastic relationship, and having children 7 and 5-just had it removed 2 days ago (Thursday Morning)...I met my boyfriend just before insertion and although he thinks I am wonderful (God love him!) I am looking forward to feeling and showing him the "REAL" me...I have always been very patient and calm and happy and emotionally and hormonally balanced (even before and during my periods!) But have progressively gotten worse over the 10 months and gained 10 pounds! I eat pretty well and am extremely active and the pounds just coming on!! So, between this crappy synthetic hormone and the weight gain...who can be happy??? I was the amazing most happy pregnant woman with both of my children for goodness sake, this shouldn't effect me this way!!! For the most part up until a couple of months ago, our sex life was still active, but started to subside (on my end) I've had NUMEROUS UTI's and some of them were just feelings of them but no bacteria so I decided enough was enough...now 2 days after removal I am bleeding heavily (heavier than ever, bled right through tampons and soaked my shorts...thank heaven I am off work this weekend!!) But the way I look at it is I am just getting rid of all the crap this Mirena has caused my body to undergo and I am excited to get back to myself again. My children noticed I wasn't normal and my boyfriend, well, I am looking forward to showing him the "true" me...if he thinks he loves me now then he's in for it...lol!!!! Good luck to all of you ladies who are also having the problems with this stupid thing...but keep thinking positive, I believe it will make our transition back to ourselves much easier and quicker!

I've had the Mirena IUD inside me for 4 years now. In the beginning I absolutely loved it because I went from having very heavy long lasting periods to having none at all. First year I had no periods but began experiencing extreme allergies. The next year the allergies to everything worsened and my stomach would inflate to the size of a 6 month pregnant woman overnight only to disappear and reappear a few days later. Doctor diagnosed me with IBS, sinusitis, and also prescribed me anti-depressants and sleeping pills. Continued to think nothing of it and did not make the connection between the Mirena and my deteriorating health. Now at 4 years with the Mirena I have numbness of the left side of my face, sores in the corners of my mouth, severe allergies, hair loss, increased facial hair, depression, fatigue, low white blood cell count, and now psoriasis of the scalp. After many blood tests and countless prescriptions I have decided to stop listening to the doctors and demand that this thing be taken out of me. Wish me luck.

ok...so i was on yasmin from the age of 17 to about 20 for irregular periods and had no problems. i stopped taking it due to forgetting to take it and my periods had become fine. i'm now 23 and just started taking yaz last month for increasing pain, nausea, and mood swings associate with PMS. i now experience extreme mood swings. i have always had some depression, anxiety, and irritability...but since i have started taking it, i have noticed an increase in these feelings. i am a 4th year pharmacy student and don't have the time or energy to feel like this. i become irritable and angry at the smallest things or no reason at all. i also just feel the urge to cry and do for the same reasons...none. i have done some research on mood disorders and the correct diagnosis of such. since my symptoms were present before and i also have ADD and mild OCD, i'm not sure if it is the yaz causing these feelings or if with all that's going on in my life, a underlying mood disorder has come to surface. for most who don't know...mood disorders are most often genetic and are seen with concominant mood disorders (depression with anxiety, ADD, OCD, etc..). my family suffers from most if not all of these (mom- major depressive disorder, ADHD; dad- anxiety, OCD; brother- ADHD, OCD, mild depression). also, most mood disorders show up during the later teens to late 20's. so my big issue is whether or not my feelings/mood swings are attributed to the "pill" or just a surfaced problem. i have looked into a disorder called cyclothymic disorder. this is when you have depression with hypomania (irritability that doesn't fit the criteria for manic-so not bipolar). i just don't know who to see or what to do. i have a psychologist and i am hoping to get in to seeing him ASAP. anyone got any input or advice?

My sister in law has been taking topamax for at least two years now for migraines, I think 50mg a day. She has developed serious issues, which she nor her doctors believe is from the drug. She has back pain, moodiness, sleeplessness, extreme muscle cramping. Most recently, her legs have become extremely swollen, larger than any pregnant woman I have ever seen. The skin on her feet is breaking open and peeling. The doctors can't find the cause, but I think it is the topamax. Has anyone else had this swelling?

Hey everyone.
I wanted to thank you for all your comments. I've been on NR for 5 or 6 cycles now and didn't realize that it might be the cause of recent issues.
1. My breast are lumpy/sore and have increased a cup size
2. Some weight gain and salt cravings (I feel like a pregnant woman) which, in turn cause me to bloat.
3. Facial bloating
4. mood swings. I'm on top of the world the first to weeks it's in then im awful the last week.
5. Worst worst, is the constant feeling going into the end of the 2nd/3rd week that i'm on the verge of getting some kind of vaginal infection.
I had something going on over Christmas (my gyno thought it was a yeast infection or cysts) with vaginal pain ovarian pain and back pain that I thought I had PID or even herpes even though tested negative for everything.
I took it out today on my normal cycle and I wonder if I should just stop completely. It scares me because of my fam. history of breast cancer. I've only been on nuva. is there some other form of hormonal birth control that's right for me?

To the Asthmatic person who said weight gain while on Prednisone was an "excuse" or pretty much a choice like a pregnant woman....Have you heard something called "individuality?" Learn a lesson from this and NEVER speak for everyone else! How about your Asthma is an excuse?......I bet you liked that, hu?!

I am soo glad I am not crazy. I am almost in tears, because I can not believe that so may women are experiencing this. I have had it for almost two years now and in the beginning I just had heavy cramps and a lot of bleeding. I was told every woman's body is different and this will take some time. I went back within 4 weeks to get it out and my doctor encouraged me it would get better. It did and I loved it. Never had a problem. Until recently, I went to the doctor thinking I was pregnant, I had ever symptom that a pregnant woman experiences and I they told me it was in my head. I am constantly tired, bloating, sick, dizziness, headaches (which they told me contributed to my sinus - then I started seeing an Allergist who kept me on Antibiotics. It got really bad they did an CAT scan on me and still nothing). I thought I was going to lose it, I had mood swings, memory loss, attention span, worst than my 5 year old and the list goes on. I am so hurt now, because I am no good with the pill (2 pregnancies from the missed pill) and loved the convenience of the Mirena, but my life is worth more than convenience.
