I have been on fosamax for about three months. All of a sudden I noticed my hair falling out. I had very thick curly hair, and now I fear that it will all go away. I am in a state of panic right now. I am wondering how much hair will I be left with, and will it ever grow back? Can anyone tell me ?
I have stopped the fosamax a week ago, and will never take it again no matter what my doctor says. He is blaming the hair loss on hormones. But I have not had hormones for years. I am 57, had a hysterectomy at 28, took premarin for years, and stopped about 8 years ago. I have also been having pain in my shoulder which now that I read about other people having shoulder pain. could also be from the fosamax. Please tel me what to do about my hair loss! Will it grow back?

I am a 27 year old female and I have stage 4 endo and have had lots of rupturing ovarian cysts. The laporoscopy was pretty ineffective for me and I tried birth control and had severe vaginal bleeding during intercourse. So my doctor wanted to do 3 months of Lupron Depot and add back therapy with Premarin.
I have only had one shot of Lupron and that was on 10/16/09. I noticed side effects with in 24 hours. I had severe joint pain especially noticed in the right hip ( I was injected in my right side) severe migraines, awful mood swings, short term memory loss and that was all in my first week on the shot. I started feeling better like 10 days after the shot, but that was only short lived. Now even after three weeks into the shot, I am in so much pain in my joints, it is difficult to take care of my two toddler boys and my home. I now have a crazy rash on my butt, and still have so much pain in my body as well as feeling numb in my toes, left arm, and fingers. This drug appears to be more ineffective than effective and I feel like women need to explore other options before going down this unknown path. I found out through research on the internet that the Premarin that I was taking as an add-back is made from PREGNANT HORSE URINE and that the horses are treated like crap so everyone can get rich off them. There has to be other options for people that have already gone through the nightmare of endometriosis. I would take endo over these side effects any day.

I just had my first shot of Lupron yesterday. I have an oversize uterus and will need to have it removed. I am 40 and do not plan on having any more kids, so that is cool. I am taking the shot to shrink my fibroids down to have the less invasive surgery because they are extremely huge at the moment. The same day I took the shot, I felt extremely drowsy and had to lay down to take a nap. I woke up and felt full of energy. The next day, slight tension in the neck and headache but that is it so far. I have some Premarin Estrogen tablets to take just in case of the hot flashes and night sweats but I am not taking those things unless I have to. I already had severe hot flashes and night sweats before all of this, so I am use to it..so its not a big deal..I also already had severe mood swings, extremely lethargic, and bouts of depression before all of this, so I really want notice the difference. So, so far, so good. I am not experiencing any side effects from the shot as of yet that I was already going through, anyhow..Each person is different..

I am a healthy, active female on a low dose of premarin from a hysterectomy last year, went on a low dose or Lisinopril last June and within a month, was at the ER twice for heart attack symptoms. My EKGs were perfect, thyroid, electrolytes, etc. and we determined, my sis has two MDs that I was over-medicated because the panic attacks started there after and were nightmares! My doc said menopause triggers these even on hormones, I know my body and I was being poisoned with Lisinopril! Been off a month now and this is my first weekend I felt normal w/no more stroke/heart attack signs thank the Lord! Any ideas on what we menopausal women can take for high BP? There is life after this drug but if it high BP runs in your family, some kind therapy is needed for us middle aged gals!

I went from a rational non-emotional women to a crazy person!!! I feel awful. I would rather have pain than feel this way. I can't sleep though constantly fatigued. Achy body, headaches. Everything tastes like cardboard so I'm not eating well though I have gained a few pounds. I am severely emotional. I almost left my husband this weekend whom I adore, can't stop crying, very depressed and irritable. I want nothing more than to be alone and sleep, which no one can live that way. I am a mother of 3, a wife, and have a full time job. I can't function properly. I will never undergo hormone treatment after I get through this! I am currently on Lupron, just had laporoscopy 2 weeks ago for the 5th time all for endometriosis and I'm only 25. I started Premarin today to assist this anxiety and mood swings. Wish my family and I luck.

Wow, thank you for all these comments......... Ive been on Biaxin for 5 days now for bronchitis and sinus infection, but also taking loratadine and premarin and a decongestant. I couldn't figure what was making me so nauseated. And major indigestion... its unreal! I haven't slept in 2 days and last night I heard Christmas music, let it snow, let it snow over and over in my head. No music was playing. So as of today, I'm not taking it anymore. I'm still congested so I guess I have to cal the doctor again. This stuff isn't for me. No metal taste at least. Thanks everyone, at least I know I'm not going nuts.

Hi everyone....
I just had the Mirena inserted Friday...primary reason was easy birth control and second was because I did not want to take estrogen. I'm 29 and do not have any children so the insertion was pretty uncomfortable to say the least. I'm good with pain but this was intense...if that's anything like childbirth no thanks! Thank goodness its over quick. Anyway, I had some cramps afterwards for that first day and my whole "area" felt like it was clenched in fist...really tight and sore. I took Motrin and used a heating pad for my cramps. The next day I was good as new...no cramps, barely any spotting. So although it's only day 3, I'd say my experience thus far is totally manageable. Everyone's body is different. I've been through the ringer already with my hormones...been put on lots of different forms of progesterones to regulate my cycles and even premarin at one point...I know what hormones can do. If it's not working for you, you're not crazy!!!! Just tell your doctor you don't like it, you won't have it, and get it out! You've gotta be your own advocate in the medical world. No woman should put up with feeling like a lesser version of herself at the hands of birth control.
I'll keep yas posted as time goes on...I see that some women start out feeling great then get issues down the line.

I have been in surgical menopause for 3 weeks now. I was put on Premarin .6 mg 2 weeks ago. For those last 2 weeks, I have been so constantly nauseous, occasionally vomiting. I'm lucky to eat 2 pieces of toast & a cup of tea each day! Still having hot flashes, not as soaking wet as before but still pretty uncomfortable.
Does anyone have similar issues?

Has anyone had extreme heavy bleeding/clots after having the Mirena removed? This is day 3. The last time I had such heavy bleeding I had just had my son. When do you start to worry about the bleeding?

If you have any other course of treatment, take it. It has been 6 years since my last injection of Lupron. Between the ages of 26-36 I was given a total of 18 injections( 3- 6months treatments), to try and treat my endometriosis, It did not work, I ended up having my ovaries removed. I was not aware or told of the effects from the Lupron I would have(* except for TEMPORARY hot flashes and no period) to tolerste over the years. My short term memory is gone almost, I feel like an idiot most of the time. I can remember what bathing suit I had when I was five, but I can't remember a what subject I am talking about when I am on the phone or talking to a person for example. I am 43. Because of all the Lupron I was given, I had to start getting a yearly mammogram when I was 30 because of the hormones, so I get an added bonus of a 10 year head start on radiation form the x-ray machines. Besides the memory loss, I have insomnia, hot flashes, vision problems, fatigue, and LIVER problems ( I am not a drinker or a drug user). I know people would think this is a normal part of menopause, however, I have been having all of these symptoms, even with my ovaries and never had any of these symptoms until my 3rd injection of Lupron. I refuse to go on PREMARIN, (why would I want another hormone, and one made from pregnant horse urine!) If Lupron works for you, wonderful, but my doctor, said the symptoms would be gone within 4 months after my last shot. HE WAS WRONG. Good Luck

I WAS GIVEN MY FIRST THREE MONTH INJECTION IN JANUARY, SO IT WAS SUPPOSED TO END IN MARCH, SO FAR THIS AWFUL SHOT SEEMS TO BE IN MY SYSTEM STILL!! NOT ONLY DO I STILL GET NIGHT SWEATS, I HAVE MAJOR JOINT PAIN, FATIGUE, MEMORY LOSS AND STILL NO PERIOD (ALONG WITH OTHER SIDE EFFECTS, TOO LONG TO LIST!)!! MY MAIN REASON FOR THIS POST, IS TO ASK IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW LONG IT TAKE TO GET YOUR PERIOD BACK?? NOT THAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IT, BUT I AM JUST CONCERNED, BECAUSE I HAVE NOT HAD ONE IN 2 1/2 MONTHS!! ANY REPLIES WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I am 52 and had a hysterectomy at 28, so I've been on lots of different kinds of estrogens in that time. Once I went on Premarin until I found out that it is made from pregnant mares' urine ( the "mar-" in the name of the med). They are confined to very small stalls and have catheters to catch all of their urine. Many of their colts are born unhealthy, which is no surprise. If this disturbs you, remember - there are LOTS of good alternatives.
I'm trying what are known as "bio-identical" estrogens next this summer.

Right now I am a total mess from taking Wellbutrin, sr. I started at 150 mgs last summer. I am now up to 450mgs a day, plus 80 mgs of Prozac a day. The doc cut my Prozac dosage in half, without telling me, and for the last week, I feel like I'm going out of mind. I am going to the doc tomorrow to have a PET scan, just to make sure I don't have a brain tumor, but I am pretty sure I know what is causing all these symptoms. I don't know if dropping the Prozac dose set me off or what, but some of the symptoms I have are; the worst headache I have ever had, dry mouth, ears ringing, heart palpitations, stumbling (I fell down 5 times in the last 2 weeks, enough to send me to the ER) I feel like I have no co-ordination, I tremble and jerk uncontrollably, and I am totally brain dead. I can't remember from one day to the next what I did, or was doing. Heck, in the last few days, I can't even remeber what I did 15 minutes ago. I start something, and walk away from it, and then I think about it later, although so far I have let the sink over flow a couple of times, and let food burn. I have been married and taking care of my family for 33 years, and now I can't even get my kids', my grandkids', and the dogs' name straight! I forget a word I know that I know, and it makes me so frustrated. I have outbursts of crying, the other day I had a meltdown because I couldn't find the leftover ham bone to make soup. I talk real fast, and sometimes get the words all mixed up. I do impulsive stuff, like I maxed out the credit card during Christmas. My husband is going nuts, too, because he says it's like living with another person. Today I have felt like I could barf at any minute, my head is pounding, my heart is pounding, and I could stay awake forever, and then in an hour I'm so tired I have to take naps every day! I never took naps, since I was 5!! I had a similar experience when I was on Paxil. Prozac has worked for me since it first came on the market, but since my doc added the Wellbutrin, I just don't know. It was working fine until she cut the Prozac dose in half, so maybe that set it off, I don't know. I wish I could get off all the crap, but due to PTSD, I have to take at least the Prozac. I hope I get some answers tomorrow!

Hi All,
Just wanted to share a positive Lupron experience. I began Lupron in Dec 2005 and ended in Jan 2007. I took monthly Lupron shots for a year straight. However, my Dr. prescribed an add back drug called Norethindrone which I took once daily the entire time I was on Lupron. The only side effect I had was about a 10 pound weight gain. When I asked my doctor if this was from the Lupron he said maybe 3 or 4 pounds of it. I was eating right and exercising during this time period but was still gaining weight. About a month after I came off Lupron I began losing weight and was able to fit into my old clothes a few months later. I am sure it was the Lupron that caused me to gain weight.
If you are taking Lupron without any add back drug, this seems when all of the other horrible side effects come into play. Just wondering if anyone had a really bad experience even while taking the add back drug.

I just took my first of six shots 2 days ago. I'm already experiencing a general hot feeling, hot flashes and insomnia. I'm worried after reading these posts. ... My doctor did not explain the severity of the side effects prior to recommending the drug. Should I continue the treatment? My endometriosis only effects my life during my periods, and have no symptoms while im not menstruating. However, my period pain is so severe it impairs my ability to function. What do i do?

.Hi this is Sue again guest#33546. I am writing to follow up on my previous article, posted on 11/29/06. I saw my gynecologist on 12/1/06, after the prometrium he had me on failed to stop the bleeding. On December 4th I had surgery to stop extremely heavy bleeding and clots the size of a quarter that lasted 24 days. After speaking with Bristol Myers about my side effects, and them informing me this could continue until the drug was out of my system I decided a premarin injection probably would not work either, since the prometrium did not. I could not go on bleeding the way I was for several more months until this drug ran it's course and was out of my system. I was extremely tired, weak, and dizzy due to blood loss. I had a hysteroscopy, D and C , and an endometrial ablation also known as , performed to stop the bleeding. I was dehydrated and was given 5 bags of fluid in the hospital probably due to blood loss. During my pre op testing my blood pressure was elevated to 162 over 90. I have always had low blood pressure. They did an ekg and my heart rate was also elevated. Another side effect I failed to mention in my previous article was severe charley horse type cramping in my calves and feet while sleeping at night. The bleeding has lightened up to a brownish discharge now which is normal and can last for up to 2 weeks post-op. Besides informing Bristol Myers of my side effects I also contacted the FDA.

I received a kenalog injection by fluoroscopy for lower back pain at L5/S1 disc. After the injection my period was a week and a half late, once it started it hasn't stopped I have been bleeding heavily for 20 days now. I have always had normal cycles every 25 days and lasting 4 to 5 days. This is not normal for me, even after the birth of my 3 children my cycles returned to normal and I bled lighter and for less time than what I am now. I called and spoke to the nurse at the pain management clinic where I received the injection and she told me that she had never heard of that happening. She then went on to say possibly every 1 in 100 can have that side effect. My gynecologists nurse also said she had never heard of this. I started researching kenalog on line and every
article I found about this list menstrual irregularities. I had the pharmacist at my pharmacy print me the patient insert for kenalog 40 and it to lists menstrual irregularities. If I can find this information our so easily and the pharmacists are aware of the side effects then why aren't the doctors informing their patients. My gynecologist put me on 200mg. of prometrium which is a progesterone to try to stop the bleeding. Thirty pills total which I had to double up on the first week but they did not work so he told me to stop taking them. I am scheduled to see him tomorrow to possible try a
premarin injection which is estrogen to see if this stops the bleeding. I called and spoke with Bristol Myers concerning my side effects, and the nurse I spoke with told me kenalog
suppresses your adrenal system which controls cortisol and hormone production and it can take several months to get out of your system. I can not go on bleeding like this for several months it's already been 3 weeks with no end in sight. My only other option right now is a d and c. I am afraid to put any more shots or hormones in my body as it is messed up enough already. I have also been extremely week and tired, very dizzy, irritable, mood swings. no energy, sweats at night, shaky, and heart palpitations. I never had any of this before the injection. My only problem was back pain from an auto accident otherwise I've always been healthy. I know kenalog caused. I wish I would have been informed of the side effects first. It helped my back pain but it is not worth it for all the other problems that it caused. I told bristol myers when I spoke with them that they need to make sure that the medical professionals using their drug are aware of their side effects and that they inform their patients especially females, and she made a notation to follow through with my request. No one should have to go through this. I am so glad I found this website as I do not feel so alone now. I will write again and let you know how I made out at the gynecologists office. Sue

I recently had neck surgery and at my last visit to my surgeon he noticed a "pimple" at the top of my scar. He popped it and suggested I take Levaquin 500 MG for 2 weeks as an antibiotic. This is now the 3rd day on Levaquin and I have experienced aches/pain in my calves and ankles. Is this unusual and/or can it interfere with the other medications I am taking? I am on Percocet (generic) and Premarin. -

I was given Prednisone, full dosage, for 9 days for an ear problem. 3 days after stopping the Prednisone, I was having mood swings, body aches, shakes and dizziness and verdigo. My Primary Care put me back on Prednisone, 10 mg., twice per day for 10 days. It has been about 1 month now, and I am still feeling nausea, headaches, dizziness, verdigo, body aches and I have to lie down a lot. Is anyone out there having the same problems and if so, how long does it take to get the Prednisone out of your body? My Primary care thinks I am going through surgical menopause and wants me to take low dosage premarin, but I have a family history of breast cancer, Mother and my Aunt/her sister. I am 58 years old. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Dale Rodberg

I am 70 years old. I got bursitis in my right hip after climbing up and down a ladder during a kitchen remodel. The doctor gave me a shot of Kenalog in my sore hip and within a week I had a small lump at the injection site. Within a month it was the size of a walnut. The doctor gave me 2 different doses of antibiotics followed by surgery to remove the lump. I went into shock during this simple surgery and was in bed for a week. Less than a month later I started experiencing severe hot and cold flashes. After $250 blood/urine tests, the doctor said I was going through the 'change' again and I am now on Premarin (hormone) At 70 years old??? Why? In addition, the scar from the surgery is still red and inflamed and it's been 6 weeks.

I am on my eighth month of lupron and have experienced all of the aforementioned side effects including vaginal dryness, decreased sex drive, moodiness, hot flashes and insomnia. I received my eighth shot about a week ago and I am feeling extremely anxious and paranoid. I am so emotional and feel like I am completely going crazy. Up to this point I have been a trooper and have complained little about my side effects. While they have been at times, inconvenient, they have not been completely intolerable. I am now at my wits end. I am really getting scared.
I have been on premarin for a few months. Should I double up on it (as my doctor recommended to aaid me with my sleeping troubles)? Will it help with the craziness I feel? Needless to say I am not getting the ninth shot (I have been prescribed 9 months of treatment). I want this stuff out of me as soon as possible. Any idea how long it will take me to regain a bit of sanity if I don't get any more of this drug??
