I too have had my Mirena in since January 2005 and just recently maybe about six months or so ago noticed that my libido is pretty much gone. I also cannot sleep. I don't go to bed till about 2 am and wake up tired the only way to get to sleep most of the time is with sleep aids or Nyquil. Acne was another side affect I got from it. Never used to get it and now I cant seem to get rid of it. No major weight gain but some depression and mood swings, anxiety too. The only good thing I can say about it is that it works to prevent pregnancy and love not having any periods at all.

I have had Mirena in since may 2007, 8 weeks after my second child. It was not painful to insert. I spot for about 1 month. I have been feeling tired, my nerves been bothering me, some back pain and feeling "spaced out / hard to focus". But I don't just blame it just on Mirena. All hormone birth control will have this affect.(what women have to deal with, it is a shame) Sad to say birth control is just not natural and is not good for us women. Birth control causes Candida (yeast to grow rapid). This causes all the problems we see in birth control. The problem is there is a natural solution to birth control, but the medical industry would not make money off of us. This natural form of birth control is available in India. They use Neem Oil in a cream form.Vaginal creams and suppositories made with Neem oil are quickly becoming the birth control method of choice in India. They are non-irritating and easy to use while almost 100 percent effective. It's important to note, however, that even toxic spermicides are not 100 percent effective.Neem has a proven ability to prevent pregnancy.Years of study in India by some of the world's leading scientists resulted in the development of a Neem-based polyherbal vaginal cream that has both spermicidal and anti-microbial action. The cream combines 25 per cent Neem seed extract with extracts from the soap nut and quinine hydrochloride. Based on the success of these experiments, a Neem-based contraceptive cream was developed by a pharmaceutical company in India. Tests of its effectiveness showed that it compared favorably with the chemical-based foams and gels. It was safer and easier to use, caused no irritation or discomfort, was nearly 100% effective, and was therefore used more frequently than the foam or gel spermicides. The effect does not appear to be hormonal and is considered a safe and effective alternative to other methods that use hormones.

I do know that when effective natural birth control becomes available (besides not having sex LOL not going to happen) I will be the first to run and get it. We need to advocate for natural non-hormone birth control. It is affecting the race of women. I encourage you to respond.

I was on Nuvaring from 2002 until 2006, in that time I started having horrible migraines, I had never had a migraine previously. My migraines by June of 2005 were daily..... I was taking Topamax 400mg, Neurontin 2400mg, Altace 2.5mg and Celexa 40mg all daily. Along with Maxalt, Phenergan and Vicodin. I had 3 bottles of botox shot into my head to stop the pain. I went to 3 Neurologists, none of which had any explanation. I was sent a letter telling me that the Nuvaring would not prevent pregnancy with Topamax. I quit using the Nuvaring and within 48hrs my daily migraine went away. I now only take one daily med and will have a migraine during ovulation/period. All of this can be supported by my medical records. I had to go on disability for a short time due to them.

I have tried many types of birth control and I think this is the worst. I have been irritable and edgy since I put it in and yesterday I left class early because I felt tired, nauseas, and had a headache. I woke up feeling not much better today, and realized I was depressed too, so I decided to look into it on the web. It has all been the ring! When it is time to take it out this month it is not going back in. If any figures out a better way to prevent pregnancy please pass it on.

I started the NR three weeks ago. Since then I have bled everyday and have had a lot of clotting. I have noticed that I have been moodier and sensitive then usual. It did not dawn on me that it was because of the NR. At 25 I have decided to not put anything in my body that is supposed to prevent pregnancy. I have used different methods for the past ten years and I cannot take the effects anymore. Besides who wants to wait for their body to get use to a chemical? From this day on I will be all NATURAL!!!

Im about to start NuvaRing in place of Yaz at the end of my next cycle. I am a very tiny person, and it usually took me a lot of trying to even gain a pound, and I gained TEN pounds in 2 months on yaz...and up a cup size which IM not comfortable with. So im going to try the ring and see if it is better...but im so afraid my body will act like this with all bc pills. I hate being on them its so unatural..but I dont know what else to do to prevent pregnancy so effectively. Has anyone had good experiences with the ring?

I have just read all of your comments on the Yasmin birth control pill and would like to state a few of mine. I have been on Yasmin for about 2 1/2 years, the first side affect that I experienced is my heart rate felt out of control at times during the first 3 months or so that I started taking it that went away thank god! I also lost about 5 pounds instintly, can't complain there. The only side affect that I am a little conserned about is my horrible mood swings and depression about 4 days before I start my period. I will take a small problem amd make it into a huge deal and I feel like crying my eyes out. Unfortunatly the one that I take this out on is my husband poor guy! Do any of you girls feel your mood swings and depression only during certain times of the month? I am honestly starting to wonder if I should change.

I was previously on Trivora which has a high estrogen level. Unfortunately, it gave me headaches every night at the time it was to take my pill (give or take 30 minutes). So my gynecologist insisted on going to the bottom of the scale seeing that the estrogen was what was giving the problem. I was then perscribed Aviane 28. This pill has given me more problems than I could have ever imagined.

The list is as follows: weight gain (20 lbs.), mood swings, swelled/tender breasts around 8-9 days before period, alternation between increased and decreased appetite, spotting/breakthrough bleeding. Basically the pregnancy symptoms. It's actually very frustrating because the purpose of the pill is to REGULATE hormones and to prevent pregnancy.

I've been on this pill for about 7 months now and have just (in the past 2 months) noticed spotting. As furiating as it is, my periods became so light, it seemed like they were alomst not existing. This persists and becomes worse every month.

Throughout the past months, I have encountered no sexual intercourse which is why I found the symptoms quite odd. I researched many different side effects but none stated the amount of spotting that was occuring. Again, this month, I have had spotting.. beginning in a dark brown and now, a bright red thin texture(sometimes clotts). There are times that I'm thinking of it stopping but other times that I go back to the bathroom and only notice it when wiping. I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this, but it would be nice to see that someone else has related problems.

THANK GOODNESS for this site! I've been taking Yasmin for almost 3 years, ladies. I absolutely have to be on the pill, though. One reason is, a man can just look at me cross-eyed and I'll get pregnant. I have 3 lovely kids now I don't want to have any more.

I also have to be on the pill, because all the women in my family (including myself) have horrible PMS, cramps and general depression. During our periods the depression can become quite extreme. I took notice after reading this site that, I have been consistently depressed for about 2 years now and thought it was just genetic. My first year on Yasmin was great. That's why I took it - VERY LITTLE OR NO PMS, it claims.

About a year ago, I went to get a physical and had my thyroid checked. The doctor told me, "Maybe you're just one of those people who needs more sleep." I do like sleeping.... just not all day! With Yasmin, I've noticed I will wake up and need to go back to bed just 2 hours later, in addition to feeling hopeless.

I know trying find the right BCP is like playing Russian Rulet for some of us. I am 37 and, until I can just worry about menopause, I need to find something to prevent pregnancy and all the other undesireable side effects.

HAS ANYONE FOUND A PILL or OTHER SOLUTION THEY ARE AT EASE WITH?

Thanks ladies,
Melody

clotty breakthrough bleeding, chunky discharge (not thrush), headaches, nausea some months, slight weight gain, breast increase (at least there's one bonus), more recently I'm getting lots of cramps and low sex drive - who wouldn't have low sex drive with all of the above? I'm sure Yasmin is fine for some people, just not me.

The trouble is, I've tried about 10 pills in 14 years, none of which suit me. All of them result in some or all of the above side effects. And I too, object to having to go through this in order to prevent pregnancy. However, when I stopped taking the pill, I scored myself the most delightful son in the world. But I'm not ready for another. What can I do?
