I have been on Lamictal for almost a year now and everything seemed to go okay until almost three weeks ago when I had to increase my dosage from 100 to 150mg and my Lexapro to 15mg. In the last couple of weeks, I have gained 7 pounds and I am really depressed. I have an eating disorder (bulimia) and because of this, I profusely purge my food in fear of gaining a dramatic amount of weight again. I am going to see my psychiatrist next week because all of this is going to cause me to crash.

PLEASE READ MY STORY!!!....My Doc switched me from Dyazide to Lisinopril Hctz 20/12.5 in Jan'07 for my high blood pressure. The first day after I started taking the medication, my BP dropped very LOW and so did my heart rate-53. My blood pressure readings continued to be consistently LOW for months, but Doc kept telling me it was OK. Had other side effects; Cough, lethargy, swollen LIP, (daughter called me Duck Lips!) sleeplessness, lightheadedness, hairloss, muscle fatigue. All symptoms I attributed to Menopause. (Except the duck lips)Over the summer, I developed slight Edema in my extremities whether I was exercising or not, thought that was weird. Told Doc about it, she ordered Blood work done to see what inflammation level is. Lab Report showed; INCREASE in BUN & Creatinine levels with eGFR level DECREASING. These levels are indicators of Impaired Kidney Functioning! Doc not concerned, tells me not to worry, just a "Bad Test Day." She increases my dosage to 20/25. Within 4 weeks of the increase, I experienced 3 bad episodes, 2 of which I went to the Emergency Room and should've for the other. In all the episodes I experienced Chest pain, Shortness of Breath, Severe Headache, Dizziness. I'm thinking I'm having a Heart Attack or Stroke because I'm a very high RISK. Tests come out normal, docs however, concerned about my LOW Blood Pressure readings but None of them tell me to discontinue the Lisinopril HCTZ. Have a 4th episode two weeks ago after walking/hiking about a mile and a half, stopping periodically to rest and drinking plenty of water on the way. After I completed my walk, I again rested for 45 minutes. I stood up, became very Dizzy, developed Shortness of Breath, Bad Headache, Profusely Perspiring, Back pain. Dummy me drove 10 minutes to get home (Should NOT have done that) Had daughter call 911. Was admitted to the hospital with SEVERE Dehydration, Dangerously LOW Blood Pressure-63/34, and going into Renal Failure which blood tests confirmed. I'm given IV fluids plus Potassium Chloride. Hospital takes me OFF of Lisinopril HCTZ and puts me on Lisinopril at 5mg!!! Had a hunch, Told the Docs at the hospital against their advice, "I'm NOT taking the Lisinopril!!" Upon discharge my BP remained in the 80-90's/40-50', except when I threw the doctor out of my hospital room because he wasn't listening to me. My Dystolic rose to a whopping 66. Went to my Doc for follow-up in two days. My BP was 146/98. Told her what I told other Docs. She convinces me to try Lisinopril 5mg for 30 days. Took it for 2 days, still bothered by what happened and searching for more information. Got LUCKY, Found this website!! I threw the bottle away. Went to a Nephrologist that specializes in hypertension. My hunch/intuition was correct!! He told me in RARE cases, Lisinopril will "cause" renal insufficiency. Discontinuation of the medication will reverse the negative effects. (I hope) Current Blood work states levels within normal reference range.

Looking for a good Medical Malpractice Attorney.

I was prescribed this for a UTI. I took ONE pill at 7 PM and by 8PM I was vomiting profusely and having diarrhea at the same time. I had a horrible headache and body aches, chills and probably a fever. Day two I feel exhausted and still have a horrible head ache. Unfortunately it is a holiday week end and I must wait to talk to the doctor until Tuesday about the UTI.

I had my baby Nov 2006, and Mirena placed 6 wks later. Even though I had stopped the after birth bleeding, within 1/2 hr of being placed, I began bleeding again profusely and had cramping in my pelvic area for several days. I bled until 3 months postpartum. I also had to go in cuz something was stabbing my hubby everytime we had intercourse, and it was untucked from my cervix. Since then, my periods have gotten light, to the point of almost non existant, just light spotting. BUT, I have never had a problem with cramps or anything before, and I get such an achy lower back for a whole week around the period. Ibuprofen doesn't do much. I will keep it in until I try for the next baby, mainly because it is inconvenient to go in and take it out, but probably won't be using it ever again after that.

I've been on levoxyl for approximately 10 years thinking the side effects were from my hysterectomy 6 years ago and being on hormone replacement therapy. I am irritable, agitated, unable to stay asleep, having more and more trouble recalling people I've met through work and retaining information. Family and friends have teased me. It's getting worse. My most bothersome side effect is that every night while after falling asleep, I've been awakened by extreme hot feelings like I'm on fire inside, not the same as hot flashes experienced by menopause. I'm hungry all the time feeling like I can't stop eating, luckily, not gaining much weight but picking on food as much as possible. I'm waiting for a phone call from my doctor to see how to stop using levoxyl and what I'll have to replace it with.

I have been taking toprol xl for approximately 9 mos. It was givien to me for rapid heart beat. My dosage has been doubled twice so that I am on 50 mg. I hate this medicine. I still have some rapid heart beat, I wake up every two hours at night, my legs hurt, and I have gained 20 lbs. I also wonder if it is this medicine that makes me sweat profusely. When I am doing yard work, or anything else in the summer heat, the water just pours off of me. I have never been a heavy sweater and I am out of doors all of the time. I want to get off of this stuff. Can I wean myself off by lowering the dosage a week at a time?

weight gain, sweating, craving for sweets, loss of sex drive, no passion for life. Can't concentrate and have became a hermit. I never even want to go outside, let alone meet people or even visit old friends. Feel like I could be in a cave with a boulder over the entryway and I would be just fine. Was taking over 100 mg a day but am now down to 15 mg!! It has taken me a year to get here, that is how bad the withdrawal is. This drug has seeped into my very soul. I am afraid that I will not be able to get all the way off at this rate.

I was on Nuva ring for 10 days. By day 5, I was severely depressed, crying daily, and having difficulty caring for my three young children. In addition, I was having dark bloody discharge after my period would have normally ended. I am certain that Nuva ring caused my symptoms and took it out. I can not believe that this bc is approved by the FDA. It is not worth it.

I have been taking Toprol, with Lipitor for 2 months for high BP and have gained weight considerably. I run on a treadmill/outdoors 4 times a week and can not get past the shortness of breath. The weight gain is mostly in my upper torso area. I have been athletic all my life and this is a new occurence. Additionally, I do not sleep well and I sweat profusely during the night to the point that my pillow and sheets are soaked. I plan to speak with my doctor soon for a replacement.

Started taking 60 mg 2 weeks ago for Asthma. No noticable side effects until the 6th night. I had insomnia and became extremely agitated and angry. I even went as far as to go out to the garage to find my husband's BB gun (I don't know what I planned to do with it but I was just in a rage...) The next day I stopped the Prednisone. I than started feeling sick like a bad cold or the flu (sore throat, achey muscles, headache, congested sinuses and ears). I Went to my Primary Care Physican because we were going away on vacation and I wanted something to make me feel better, plus my BP was dangerously high (166/120) He gave me Vicodin which I took quite alot of over a 3 day period (like maybe 8 tablets a day) and started me on a beta-blocker for the HBP. Don't know if it was from the Vicodin, the beta-blocker, withdrawl from the Prednisone or a combo but I was absolutely exhausted during the day and could not sleep at night and sweated profusely even though the room was cool. I was also taking a RX cough syrup with a histamine in it. By Sunday my Asthma was out of control again. Monday the breath thing measured 220 (I am 44 years) and I couldn't stop coughing. I went back to the Dr. who gave me a cortisone injection and ordered me back on the Steroids (40 mg. for 10 days) I'm also on a antibiotic and diruetic. This is my 3rd day back on and have had terrible headaches and the sweatyness as well as some aches but other than that I've done pretty well. As far as the insomnia - the pharmacist recommended I take all 40 mg. of Prednisone in the AM and the Beta-Blocker b-4 bed. So far this seems to be working because the beta-blocker does make me tired. My face is bloated and I am hungry but refuse to give in and overeat because I know It'll just make it that much harder to get back on track with my exercise and healthy eating habits once I'm over this thing. I resigned myself to the fact that no matter how crazy or bad this stuff makes me feel, I just have to stay on it for the full 10 days in order to recover. I've warned my family and friends that I might become outraged at any little thing and have canceled obligations and other things that might stress me out and cause me to flip out again. I bought a few good books and other than Carpooling the kids around to their activites I plan to just chill for the next week. Now, my question is - the Dr. prescribed 40 mgs for 10 days - what about the weaning off thing? Do you think I'll be okay to just stop taking it at the end of 10 days?

I am a 60 year old male with lung cancer but in other wise good shape. I was given Propoxy 100s for extream pain in my left sholder and muscles in lower right back. I took the pills every 4 hours as directed from 8am on the first day and by evening had some mild light headed feeling and very slight bluring of vision. On the second day I started at 8am with no problem and took another pill at 12 noon and apx. one half hour later went to mow the lawn. While mowing on a cool day I started to sweat profusely, very dry mouth and became mildly nausious with some light headedness. This cleared up slowly in about 5 hours. There was no sign of blood pressure or heart problem.

! have been on yasmine for a little over a week and am only thankful I could recognize it's effect before it was too late.

I knew, as I drove to work going 70 miles an hour and thoughts of driving myself into the cement wall ahead were sounding appealing, that I was having severe depression. I had not felt depression that severe since my teen age years! I pulled over and cried for 20 minutes straight, then puked. I have missed work everyday this week due to extreme stomach cramping and nausea.

In the last 4 days my world has turned upside down. My poor 10 year old is probably ready to run-away and my partner is ready to tie me down and lock me up. I cannot even speak to either one of them without snapping, screaming and thinking they must be the stupidest people on earth. Worse is that as soon I unload on them, I am apologizing profusely becuase I don't really mean it. I am quite aware I am not myself, even more so they recognize it. It was almost comical at first, now I am just a wreck! I want to die and it is not like me in the least. I am a peaceful, soft-spoken person gone MAD!

The worst part of it for me is I have very few options besides this. My doc is requiring me to be on it because I take another med that if for some reason I got pregnant, it would cause such terrible birth defects that she refuses to risk it. I am thankful for her concern, but what do I do? My only other option is Ortho-Evra...has anyone here switched and preferred the patch?? I am most concerned for depressive side effects.

Lastly, if your thinking of going on Yasmine, only buy a one month supply and if you see these effects I recommend you try something different. REGARDLESS if they will fade. I almost committed suicide and I am one of the most cheerfull, happy, blessed people I know.

Hi dianamal!

The best advise anyone can give you is:

Get off Yasmin immediately!!

I wish anyone of those doctor's would have put 2 and 2 together and recoginzed that early, what was wrong with me!! I think your doc is absolutely right with his opinion!!

As I know now, Yasmin is causing a very heavy loss of minerals and vitamines in your body (well, every bcp does but Yasmin in a very special and heavy way, because of the diuretic "spironolactone" in it!!!), which doesn't show symptoms at once, but very slightly more and more over months and years!!

In my case everyhing began after being about 2 - 3 years on Yasmin! I suddenly became terribly tired, the way, where I thought I would fall down to the floor and fall asleep immediately, I got muscle cramps, muscle hurting, dizzyness and many more symptoms. But NO ONE thought about that wonder pill Yasmin!!! I had thousands of tests done but none of them brought out, what really was causing me such heavy health problems!! They thought it was just an unspecific virus and I had to wait and see, if it would get better as months go on.

And so I went on an on without knowing, what my body already was going through. I just thought, I HAD somehow to get through and go on, but never felt really healthy again!!

Then after about 4 - 5 years on Yasmin (during 2004) everything got worse and worse... Within one year I became weaker and weaker, always very tired, the dizzyspells got almost unbearable, I was very often nauseous without any reason, etc. Then after a heavy cold (I was ill for about 3 weeks and had sweated profusely during that time.... and without knowing that therefore I lost another amount of minerals and vitamines...).

Another 3 horrible months later (I got weaker and weaker month by month!!) I broke down completely with anxiety attacks, heart racing, hurting muscles, muscle cramping, muscle weakness, dizzyspells, fainting spells, and many many more in December 2004. I thought I was about to die.... And no one was able to find out, what was wrong with me!! Until I finally came to an endocrinologist, who admitted, that such heavy symptoms COULD be caused by a bcp and I just had to try and get off it immediately.

And you know what? Bingo!

Now 1 year later I'm feeling so much better. It was a very slow process and a very hard way getting here, I just felt better month per month very slowly with many setbacks and am still not back to 100% but I'm able again to do whatever I want without breaking down completely. And it all got that bad because I didn't know for so long, what Yasmin was already doing to my body and I went on taking that sh.... every evening...

So I just can beg you: GET OFF THAT YASMIN STUFF IMMEDIATELY!!! You got the chance to prevent that my and the story of many other women here will happen to you!!

I don't want to frighten you, but prevent you from experiencing the same hell that many of us did!!!

All the best!!

Silke

I just started taking what will be a week's worth of prednisone for a hive-like rash (unknown cause). My dosage began with 30mg today. Within one hour I was sweating so profusely I felt like a cartoon character....so I got online to find out if this was a normal side effect so quickly, and I found this forum.

If I'd read this first I'd probably have not taken it!

I will taper down over the seven days. Anyone know if I can
expect moonface & weight gain on this short, rather limited dosage?
The Dr. cautioned about swelling and a rather manic feeling (He described it as "vacuuming ferociously at 3 a.m.") but thought most of problems came in 50 mg-plus dosages or those for extended time...
I also take meds for high blood pressure & depression and low-dose hormones for menstrual issues.
Anyone know if any other corticosteroids are "better" than prednisone, or are they all similar in effects?

many thanks for your time

it made me feel like i was in a box. I had no emotion at all. I did not care about repercussions of ill made desicions. I didnt eat for about 3 weeks at 100mg. my arms shook and i would sweat profusely. I would have a pain so severe in my chest, back and stomach that all i could do was lay on the floor and cry. My anxiety and panic attacks persisted even at 300mg. the shaking stopped and so did the pain but the box has apparently dissolved because of my excessive crying. Everything around me assualts me- apparently wellbutrin XL at 300mg quit doing its job. I slept for 12 hours at a time - sometimes 20, having no recolection of falling asleep or ever waking up. Short term memory is shot - memory in general is shot. My keys, and shoes, and books dissapear on a regular basis because i cant remember if they are on the table or in the bag even though i set them down not 2 minutes ago.

I wanted to reply to: Tue, 2 Nov 2004 09:27:36 -0500 by carlcbaker, #7729

Did not see how to reply, so will try it this way. Dont mean to be not following procedures, etc. I just wanted you to know that I take 10mg methadone every 4-6 hrs to help with failed back syndrome, and the chronic pain and discomfort that goes with all that. The pain Doc has me on it, and I sweat so badly that my ears fill up and I have to turn my head to empty
at times. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME, HOWEVER THAT ANYONE SAID ANYTHING TO ME ABOUT THE METHADONE CAUSING IT! I have a complete analysis by my Endocrinoligst (sp) pending to try and help me with it, as it is so bad that I cannot live a normal life. Sweat profusely, and if I get the least bit upset, it gets worse and is debilitating. Please send me any information you or anyone else has with regard to PR4OFUSE SWEATING. Thanks ....******

I was prescribed Levaquin 500mg for 7 days to treat my sore throat. After taking the second pill , I felt dizzy, my heart- beat increased significantly, I perspired profusely, my mouth and throat were very dry and my urine output was noticebly reduced. I was unable to stand for over one hour.
The following day I took the third pill and exactly the same thing happened.
I have stopped taking the Levaquin and the symptoms have dissapeared.
Hope there was no permanent damage.
