This is my Mirena story. I got it inserted just over 4 months ago. Other birth controls were not working very well for me, as I had irregular bleeding with them often. So my doctor recommended Mirena. Insertino was awful. It hurt terribly. I almost passed out in the office from the pain (and I am not a wuss when it comes to pain). On the drive home I had to pull over to throw up - I was so nauseous from the pain. The extreme pain (which, to me, was worse than when I was in labor) lasted for a few days then subsided.

I bled for 30 days straight after insertion, which was awful. I also have experienced hair loss, acne, irritability and weight gain (without changing my diet and exercise levels). Over the past four months I have also had awful back pain and extreme cramps that seem to come randomly. My periods come and last 10 days.

Recently, I decided that I'd had it with the Mirena. I went to the doctor today and had it removed. After talking with her about my side effects, she was very supportive in my decision to have it removed. She believes I may be overly sensitive to the progestin in it. Removal was super-quick and easy and virtually painless. I'm looking forward to life without this thing!

I have had mirena since July of 2006.. I never thought about the things I was feeling could be related until I just read your blogs! I constantly feel pregnant and I am talking all the symptoms!!! Bloating and stomach pains included! Depression, anxiety, sleepiness here lately, severe back pain, numbness.. I am almost 25 and thought some of these problems were growing pains(I know that probably sounds nuts). Please if anyone has a suggestion as far as what I should do here is my e-mail address ******! I need advice and it looks like the doctor's just want to make a buck!!
Thanks,
R.

I have also been scared that I'm pregnant with Loestrin 24. I have had headaches everyday, nausea, cramps, major mood swings, my sex drive has significantly decreased, my gums bleed a little when I brush my teeth and sometimes I wake up with dried blood on my teeth. My periods barely last a day, and I wouldn't even say I was bleeding. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I'm thinking about calling my GYNO now and asking her to switch my birth control. I have never found a BC that is perfect for me, but these are the worst side effects I've ever had with one.

I am thinking about going on NuvaRing. But after reading these posts i am very scared to do so. But i really need to get on birth control, i am 17 and i already have a one year old daughter and i don't need any more babies until after high school. I really don't know what to do guys! There are so many more cons than pros with the NR or that is what it sounds like, but maybe the women who use it and have little to no side effects just don't come on this site. Wow I'm so confused! Help!!

I've been on Ortho-Tricyclen (then switched to generic, TriNessa) for well over 3 years, and I can honestly say that I have had minimal, if any, side effects. My skin is clear, my periods are extremely light with minimal cramping and only last 2-3 days. I have no other side effects to speak of (i.e. nausea, vomiting, depression, etc.) My doctor recently wrote me a scrip for Aviane, because she was concerned about the progestrin in TriNessa, but I don't think I'm going to fill it. On this site alone, I've read 50 against Aviane and only 1 on TriNessa.

For the first time since my doctor perscribed Lupron for me, it has been terrible. The heavy bleeding, the anemia, the hair loss, the aches and pains, the headaches. I never had this problem in times past when I've used this before and it did not affect me to this magnitude. I have a history of endometriosis and fibroids, with 7 "lap scopes" and a myomectomy. I cannot explain why I've had such a terrible time with the injection this time.

I was on ortho-triclyclen for 5 years and LOVED it. About a year ago, I started to get a "period" every 2 weeks. I was mainly on the pill to control acne, but now I use it for birth control now that I have finally found a good guy! I tried a few pills, but still had the early bleeding. I read about Yasmin and had heard good things about it. It helped w/the early bleeding a little bit, but not completely. My doc had to add 10 mg of progestrin the week before I was supposed to get my period, but I'm STILL getting it one week early which adds up to 2 weeks of "supplies" and as you know, they aren't cheap! Since I started taking Yasmin 8 months ago, every few months, on the Sunday prior to my period, I get horrible nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tingling throughout my nerve endings and it knocks me out for about 2 days. It's the most horrible feeling! Sleeplessness as well. Therefore, my body is only trying to tell me 'something' and I'm going to give the birth control pills a break. I'm going to give my body some time to readjust itself hormonely and physically. Luckily, my boyfriend is understanding and only wants me to get back on track. I have made an appt w/my OB/GYN to discuss other options. Finding the right BCP has been a challenge for me for the past year...if only the docs could give us little pin prick and tell us what pill would be best for us with the least side effects. We are all so different!
