Got married about a couple years ago and went on Yasmin. First BC and as I've never had any BC did not know what to expect. I felt fine but now reading all these makes me realize that the weight gain, NO SEX DRIVE, NO VAGINAL MUCUS (have to use tons of lubrication), re-occurring thrush could be attributed to Yasmin.
I stopped Yasmin last year December as now ready for a baby, its been six months and still haven't conceived, still dry and use lubrication....and also have milky discharge from breast but not pregnant. Had an MRI scan and showed pituitary anenoma (not sure of the spelling) basically a small tumor of the pituitary glad that secretes too much prolactin in system caused by imbalance of hormones.
I'm only praying to God for healing and hoping that my body would go back to normal rather than start other medical treatment.
My advise.............. come off Yasmin, DO NOT TAKE ANY BC

Risperdal increases production of prolactin. That would explain lactation and reduced sex drive. So if you read that it doesn't affect sex drive, it may not but in some cases it very well my since increased prolactin decreases sex drive.

Silke
Im sorry I wrote that last post so fast it was confusing and I didnt even sign! Its me, bitterRN. Anyway I got those lab ranges from this website... www.earlymenopause.com/tests.htm

Dont let the name scare you, I dont think you are in menopause, but possibly having some kind of ovarian dysfunction where your ovaries are not producing enough androgens.(testosterone and progesterone)

Anyway please let me know what your doctor says and dont forget to ask him the normal lab ranges for each hormone right down to the measurement (example ng/dl or ng/ml) or better yet try to get a copy and it will have the normals listed next to your results. The other labs the LH, FSH, Estradiol looked pretty normal, I dont know why he tested Prolactin?? unless this was progesterone? But I dont think the testosterone is normal. Let me know.

After reading what everyone is going through, I decided I would put up my experience. I've emailed some of you.. I'm a 35 year old, married, with 2 children. I was on Triphasil 28 for 4 years and then started to get breast tenderness. Doctor switched me to Ortho Triclyclen Lo in November 2004. Was never happy on that because the breast tenderness never went away and I started to gain weight. Why I stuck it out for a whole year, I have no idea. Then the Doctor switched me in November 2005 to Ovcon 35 - BIGGEST MISTAKE. As soon as I started taking it, I started bleeding. I bled for 2 weeks, then had a week off, then bled for 2 weeks, then a week off. This went on the ENTIRE time. My breasts hurt SO bad. No sexual drive whatsoever. I was angry, grumpy, irritable, bloated, constipated, you name it. I was literally in a constant state of PMS. After a month of being on it, my hair started to fall out (I noticed it in the shower). I went to the drs again, this time to my primary, not my ob/gyn and they tested for my thyroid. Initial tests game back normal, so they said go off the pill immediately because there's something going on with your hormone levels that is not right. I didn't take my pill Feb. 4th and haven't since then, I threw it out and let me tell you, I have bled Feb. 5, 6, 7, 8, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and today 2/28, so far. Hair is still falling out. Breasts still hurt. Still bloated. Haven't lost a pound. Nothing's really changed other than I'm not putting that stupid pill in my mouth every day. So, since it will be 1 month OFF the Ovcon on Friday 3/3, the doctor now wants to do estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, parathyroid, pituitary, iron, and cbc tests to see what is going on. This pill messed me up so bad. I've never had female problems, EVER. If you are on this pill and are experiencing any negative side effects, GO OFF OF IT IMMEDIATELY. There's something w/this pill that is not right and I have no idea why the doctors are pushing it. There are SO MANY women out there that are reporting all these negative side effects, you would think they would pull it from the market! If you want to email me, feel free...

Thanks for listening!

I have been on Risperdal for 5 years now. It has increased my prolactin alot which stops periods. I do get strange thoughts, some quite scarey. When I tried to cut down, I got very angry. I have lost weight over the past few months, I guess it is because I have been more active. I do get whoozy in the head, sometimes feel like I could black out kind of feeling. I don't weed the garden anymore as I feel like fainting when standing up from kneeling down. That is from low blood pressure I have been told. I don't think I can come off Risperdal as I am scared of the anger and I am more mentally stable.

I'm 27, and have never taken BCP's before.
I've been on Yasmin nearly 4 weeks with few side effects (one unacceptable).

Bad: After 2 weeks on Yasmin, I developed unbelievable scalp itchiness (never before) to the point of wanting to scratch holes in my head. Often. Random spots of amazing itchiness (arms, ears, chest, legs, back, hands) arrived a few days later that rival contact dermatitis in severity. There is nothing else I can attribute this to besides Yasmin (I hope it is not allergy based, as I basically have no allergies).
I've tolerated the itching for nearly 2 weeks, and will give it another 6 to see how it goes. It's not an acceptable side-effect.
Otherwise, I've just gotten slight spotting (skipping placebo pills) and a decrease in sex-drive. Not impressed. I had no sex-drive for 2 years because of a prolactin secreting pituitary tumour. Once that was treated, my sex-drive was amazing. Everyone should be able to feel like that! I'm attuned to that now, and it is diminished. Will give Yasmin a trial though. Sadly a catch-22, since I'm taking it because I've found someone special.

Good (?) side-effect: Oh my god, I've lost my chocolate-drive. I enjoy one chocolate, not most of a packet like I used to. Could not believe this. Hormones are amazing.

Sorry to hear all the serious side-effects posted here. I hope you all find what is right for you. Without quality of life, what is left? Best wishes.
