Dear Silke and all here,
toda i had my 12mth post yasmin bloods done and the results showed that i am low in iron....suprise...and my liver is not functioning at its proper rate a side effect no doubt caused through this wonderful drug. This she feels may be why i am carrying the weight besides eating and exercise well.
Just to update the new people to the site i struggled like you all anxiety , high blood pressure massive panic attacks to the point that i gave up a great job as i thoguht i was going mad, had the floaters in the eyes and now all these symptons have slowly faded but like you all in the beginning i felt like i was destined to feel so bad like i did. It got better around the 3-5mth mark and now apart from the weight gain and puffiness i am doing 90% ok. i work again can look after my three kids great and life is returning to how it was. I take every day religiosly flaxseed oil capsules, magnesium supplements and now after seeing a naturopath i am about to take whatever he prescibes for the liver natural of course. Just remember its going to get better i thought i was going to die, i felt useless could not ever go for a walk i quit my job and now things are ok, so take note and remember its hard every day but everyday is a day closer to yasmin recovery. Drink lots of water and i listened to charles linden relation tapes for my anxiety and i too think this helped train my mnd again to laugh at these attacks as a mindless game. Charles Linden wrote noone has ever died from an anxiety attack so remember whats the worst it can do, dont feed these attacks laugh at them and remember its the yasmin doing it and once your mind believes that the cycle begins to break
take care and you can always post me as i still check in each day

About 2 months ago, I was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 tabs for an inflamed, swollen nose which extended to puffiness and an apparent fluid sac under my left eye -- the actual cause for this infection has not been determined.
The doctor prescribed a 14-day supply (1 tablet, twice daily), and said I could stop taking it after 10 days if I wanted, or finish out the supply if I so desired. After about 5 days, the swelling had pretty much subsided, particularly under the eye, but I continued taking the medication through the 13th day. During the first 12 days, I did not notice any adverse reactions.
However, on the 13th day, just after getting out of the shower, I noticed red welts on my chest and back, purple splotches on the underside of my upper arms, and generalized redness across the rest of my body and limbs. I did not immediately associate these symptoms with the antibiotic, because the first 12 days had not caused me any problems.
However, a friend theorized that it might be an allergic reaction to the antibiotic, and suggested I stop taking it to see if the symptoms subsided. Since I had only two tablets left, I decided to heed the suggestion, and the redness did go away after about 2 days. I resolved to tell the doctor about this reaction on my next visit, but have not been back there yet.
Earlier this week, I experienced the beginnings of similar tenderness and swelling on the left side of my nose, and still do not know what might be the cause for this. I decided on Wednesday morning to take one of the remaining two tablets of Sulfameth/Trimethoprim, and within an hour or two began to itch a lot -- primarily on the back but also on the arms. I thought that taking a shower might relieve the symptoms, and it did somewhat.
Around dinner time, I took the second (my last one) remaining tablet, and about an hour later went out to join some friends. I had a slight headache and took an Ibuprofin tablet just before going out. Within the second hour, I began to feel chills (even though I was wearing ample layers of clothing), and the headache had not diminished -- so I took another Ibuprofin. The symptoms seemed indicative of a low-grade fever.
After excusing myself and going home, I laid down to watch TV, and the chills got so bad that I was obliged to curl up under a blanket, even after turning up the central heat. The headache got so intense, I had to hold an icepack against my temples and forehead for some relief. Later, when I took my temperature, the fever had progressed to 102 degrees; still later, it had climbed to 104. This worried me, since I have read that brain damage can occur at 105 degrees.
During this time, I decided to switch (from Ibuprofin) to taking three aspirins, to see if that might be more effective in reducing the fever, but it persisted at 104 degrees for all of the night and into the next morning. I made a point of drinking lots of fluids (water & juice) and tried sleeping, but woke up about every two hours.
On Thursday, about mid-day, the fever finally began to subside -- though I noticed a fatigue and soreness in my calf muscles, most pronounced if I stood in one position for more than a minute or so. The only relief was to move about, or to sit down.
By evening, my temperature was back to normal and I felt well enough to visit with some friends again. However, several hours after returning home, I felt dehydrated and had another headache; my temperature was back at 102 degrees. I drank more fluids, took aspirins, and had another night of fitful sleep.
By Friday afternoon, my temperature had reduced to about 100 degrees, and my calf muscles still displayed the same symptoms of soreness, as though I had over-exercised them. It's a very uncomfortable feeling.
Lesson learned: I will be asking my doctor to note in my file that I am allergic to sulfa-based meds, and hope that normalcy returns over the next few days. I have also gained a deeper appreciation for the manner in which the human body fights off foreign substances! ;-)

I also suffer from puffy, irritated, dry eyes and when my dosage was too high, I also had bloating. Hair was falling out but I think it is slowing down some. Most of all I'd like to know what to do about my eyes, I can't seem to get any help from doctor.

I noticed some definite puffiness in my face and soreness in my breasts, as well as a bit of an acne outbreak on my face. My breast size actually increased a whole cup size...and I'm past the age at which you hit puberty.
The puffiness in my face started a day AFTER I finished the prednisone. (I was on it to control poison ivy...I then had an allergic reaction to the topical medicine given to me and was put on prednisone again to counteract the allergic reaction. I had the 6 day dosage pack (4mg?) 3 times and finished the pack this past Sunday.
The breast stuff occured after my 2nd pack. I'm assuming that may be the "fat redistribution" I've read about.... My stomach had a little bit of fat added to it...nothing major, however the weird thing is that my weight has been about the same.
The thing I'm majorly stressing about is the "moon face" thing and I want to know how long this will last and/or what I can do to counteract it!
Any help/information would be greatly appreciated.

I have been taking prednisone for just over a week for a bad case of poison oak. I have noticed mild side effects such as irritibility and puffiness in my hands and face. I am breast-feeding my 2 1/2 year-old daughter and she has been moody too. The last two nights she has had a bloody nose, I wonder if that is also a side effect of the prednisone?

Hi Lisa-Thank you so much for asking....
Here is my post-yasmin update.....
My pd started very light today and I had a very anxious night last night, hopefully related to PMS. I have been taking the xanax at night and paxil CR (12 mg) in the AM and I am seeing the doctor on Friday and will know about my BP monitor results then.
I am trying to avoid the xanax but the anxiety is pretty bad these days. This is my first cycle off of yasmin.
I took yasmin for 6 months, stopped for one month, and then again for three months. I think I really did some hormone damage to myself. I am off of caffeine, artificial sweetners (which I loved) and all alcohol (never took much anyway). I lost about 11 pounds this month since stopping yasmin. My face has alot less swelling and puffiness.
My vision is a little blurry.... any ideas????

I was on Prednisone for 8 months for Ulcerative Colitis, from 40mg on down and had a very hard time tapering off the drug. I am 45yo and still have joint pain in my elbow, knees, shoulder, a 20lb. weight gain, puffiness in my abdomen and face. I am afraid of bone loss and want to know if I should take Fosomax. How long does it take for the drug to leave the body and how can I accelarate the process.

I am 31 years old - I was on the pill (4 different ones) for 14 years. I decided to stop last year and start using a diaphragm. It was great - even lost 5 pounds! My doctor asked if I had ever considered using NUVA Ring b/c fertility can return quickly when stopped - I gave it a shot. First mistake was to go back on horomones....but, the side effects of NUVA Ring were horrible. After 4 months, I removed it. I had severe headaches, nausea, weight gain of 5 pounds (and I work out 6 times a week), dizziness, extreme lower back pain, acne, facial puffiness and terrible moodiness. How about the total lack of sex drive too? It was so bad that I removed it mid-cycle. It's back to the diaphragm for me - it's a little messy but well worth it - especially to go horomone free!

Not sure what happened: I had made a post several days ago. I thot it showed up..oh well.
They've reduced my dosage from 25mg/day to 10mg/day, it's been about 2 weeks. Some of the moon face has disappeared not a lot but some. The muscle cramps still creep up once in a while in the legs and sometimes the hands and even one in the neck but they pass more quickly now.
Eating is less of a problem. First of all, I was able to eat mounds of food. As mentioned by someone earlier, eating or not eating doesnt seem directly related to my weight but I did gain 4-5 pounds in 3 weeks and some days my weight would rocket 10 lbs right before bed. (Any weights taken outside the normal consistent time really don't count.. but they're interesting. Weight should be taken the same time under the same conditions every time to make any sense.) It wasn't just the eating it was the rationalization. "Oh I can eat just onemore helping.. about 5 lbs .. of potato salad". And it actually made sense. Probably related to the psychotic episodes others have mentioned. Now, at 10 mg, it IS easier to control. My weight has drifted back a bit to just 2 lbs over what I was when I started the pred.
Other side effects are still around: puffiness in the face (though it is diminished), buffalo hump, swollen belly, some acne (improves with phisohex), general movement of fat stores to all sorts of weird places. It is difficult to tell on a daily basis if that's changing only incomparison week over week (or more).

At 10 mg reduced to 5.. there probably aren't many side effects to speak of .. if any. Most of us were on some higher dosage (30 is considered moderate to high.. 40+ is considered high - i think). And for a month or more. I didnt notice any side effects the first month. The second month they started. I've just been reduced to 10 / day this week. It will take anywhere from a week to amonth or more for the effects to diminish.. if they are going to ! Sugar has already reduced a bit. Morning sugar was averaging 160-180. Since hiting 10 mg it's been running under 120 every morning.
Ravenous appetite ? I swear Im eating for a family of four. I have day dreams of walking thru the grocery store like it's my own personal buffet !! And yes.. it defies all logic. Ive managed to control it to the extent that Ive only gained 2 pounds in the last 2 months. I will lose it.. I will lose it .. I will go grazing for dinner later !
The puffiness is still there.. but it's not been a week on 10 yet so there is still an opportunity to lose some of it. we'll see.

I am 53 (female) and have been taking Lipitor for about 5 months. I haven't read the whole list below, but is anyone having problems with mental clarity and thinking that it might be related to the Lipitor.? I am experienceing short term memory loss and mental confusion. My M.D. is sending me for a brain MRI this week. While I don't fear this is early dementia, I am beginning to think it might be a side effect of the Lipitor. I stopped taking the Lipitor 7 days ago and it seems I am more clear minded.
I have felt a general overall "puffiness" since starting the Lipitor. This combined with the mental clairty issues are making be suspect of the Lipitor.
I also am experience an overwhelming fatigue. This too seems to have lessened since stopping the Lipitor.
My M.D. just stares at my blankly! I am starting to think I am really loosing it. Anybody having similar reactions?
Thanks for any responses!

Looks like I might be the only one praising Lisinopril on this forum. I am a 52 year old woman and up until this past year was a very physically active person. I developed high blood pressure suddenly and went on Toprol to help control it. I had been on 100 mg of Toprol for blood pressure that was ranging around 158/98. On the Toprol I experienced angina and terrible fatigue, and puffiness around my midsection. After a heart catheter revealed no blockage, I was put on 5 mg Toprol and 10 mg Lisinopril. The change was dramatic. I was able to go up and down stairs at work with no problem, my blood pressure dropped to 110/78 and I feel wonderful. I also have lost about 8 lbs. in "water weight" around my middle and can fit in my pants again. For me, Lisinopril was a Godsend.

I am hoping it is just Advair but I have a gyno appointment tomorrow. I have severe bloating in my adomen without any significant pain. It started a month after starting this Advair and never goes away. It is wrose after eating and I noticed belching which I never had a problem with before unless I have soda. I have dark circles under my eyes which even my husband noticed and a lot of swelling in many areas of my body.
I feel more anxious and have sore throats every morning.
I am going to seek an alternative. Pulmicort gave me a horrible rash on my legs and puffiness so hopefully there is something else I can try. If anyone has any suggestions please help. I used to have a very flat stomach.

I started taking levaquin (250mg) for 3 days because of a kidney stone. After the first day I noticed soreness in the back of my neck, puffiness in my face and crazy dreams. I called the pharmacist and she said it's really not a good prescription for the elderly or anyone with kidney trouble. I'm a 42 yr. old female with infrequent UTI's and really think they could have prescribed something else. Glad I found this site so that I know to stay away from this stuff!!

I am 19 years old and I recently was taken off of it 2 years ago when I switched doctors. Prior to the switch I had been on it for 16 years. I prob have some of the worse side effects. Because it causes an increase in appetite I ate but I didn't eat all the time, and I ended up gaining over 100lbs. I have a black-brown ring around my neck and for the longest time I thought it was dirt that wouldn't come off so sometimes I scrubed my neck sometimes to the point that it was raw.I have bad acne on my back and its just horrible.I cry every single night because of the side effects.I just want to know if anyone on here can help me.
