My mother was given avelox for a bronchial infection appoximately one week ago. Within 3 days she developed large pustules on her arms, legs, neck and a few on her trunk. She suffered from dizziness, memory loss, confusion and paranoia. She had panick attacks due to the itching which was severe. A trip to redi care brought no help, the staff said they had never seen anything like it and provided a topical steroid cream. Her family physician who prescribed the drug did not seem concerned at all. She is depressed and has had dizzy spells causing her to fall. My mother is 76 and although not as sharp as she used to be she is very concerned about any long term damage this drug may have caused. I am attempting to get her in to another clinic for treatment as her primary DO acts as though the whole thing is no big deal. The area worst effected is behind her knees and on the inside of her arms. I have read the side effects regarding tendonitis and tendon damage and am very concerned.

I was taking 10 mg of Zocor for years and my doctor increased the dosage to 20 mg. Some time after the increase, my legs hurt so badly that I really was like a cripple. My doctor took me off of it and a few month later put me on Lipitor 10mg....I had been on it for about a year but about 4 months ago I got some sores, sort of like Chicken pox but in a small area, on my face. It itched like mad and took a long time (month or more) to heal, then I started getting itching on my legs and each tiny itchy pimple would turn into a really itchy sore about 1/2 inch in size. The sores would scab over and get white pustules in the middle and after they healed a scar would remain for a quite a while.
Along with this problem, my knees ached at night and my calves were always tired so it was an effort to lift my feet to walk. I went off of the Lipitor two weeks ago and so far have not had another sore and my legs are starting to feel better, I am more sure footed when walking. Along with these symptons, I couldn't go to sleep at night...so I think Lipitor is the culprit.

I've been on Lipitor @ 20 grams for several years. Because of arterio diseases, my doctor upped me to 40 grams. Within a week I began to have a series of near seizure like episodes wherein my right leg collapsed. This lasted only seconds then within a minute a second such seizure. I had four such incidents then it stopped for 10 days, then the same thing again. Additionally, I have had the right hand go rather spastic on two occasions. There was no paralysis involved. Because I had cardioangioplasty and a stent inserted at the beginning of August, I thought it might be an after effect. This was discounted by my cardiologist. In early July, my left carotid artery totally occluded. My vascular surgeon was puzzled as to why this happened because a year ago testing showed only 25% stenosis, but doesn't see any relationship to what may be neuro problems. Today I took an EEG prior to seeing my neuro doctor tomorrow. Only because I overheard a man and his wife talking at the hospital yesterday, did the magic words come out about his having the exact same symptoms as I have encountered. I'd never said a word about my experiences until I heard him. His cardiologist had taken him off Lipitor. Additionally, he noted a reddening of my skin low on my forehead and recently I've had difficulty with pustules breakout on my head. This gentleman had the same trouble. All interesting. I've been at the Internet all day.
My son in law went on Lipitor a few months ago. Like me, he's a big guy. My daughter told me he is encountering difficulty with his middle ear. Anyone know anything about this potential side effect. Lejacle

Hi ladies. I had my Mirena put in just under 6 months ago because of heavy long periods, day 21 Oestrogen test showed I was heading for perimenopausal. Suffered acne on and off over the years but looking back it was manageble. I have 4 kids, youngest is 2 and GP refused a COCP because of my age(40). Persuaded me that the Mirena was the answer to my prayers so went ahead. Despite 4 full term pgs and 2 mc's insertion was very very painful. Anyway, just had the damn thing removed last week, drove to another town's family planning clinic to get it out as couldn't get seen at my GPs for 2 weeks and was desperate and just had to get it out of me.
Side effects: Zilch sex drive, mood swings, hot temper, overly emotional/crying, fuzzy head, tiredness, poor self esteem, bloated, joint pain, aching all over, painful breasts, symptoms of UTI/Cystitis, and the worst for me acne. My skin has never been so horrible. My pores have responded to the androgen's by going mad, producing too much sebum, blocking pores, causing nasty papules, pustules and the off cyst like spot. I have been depressed, not wanted to face anyone, even felt suicidal at times.
Spoke to the doc at the FPC and she agreed it's not for everyone, says she has told the Obstetricians at the local hospital(UK) that they shouldn't be putting so many in! Got the impression she saw loads of women with probs from it. Said she could see it was totally wrong for me. The nurse was lovely, took it out and told me it had been a pleasure to remove it for me!
Came away to give my body a break and think about perhaps Yasmin but after reading about that think I will just go without. Will say my withdrawal bleed from Mirena has been awful, heavy with huge clots and has been going on for 7 days and has again become heavy today. However I would rather have heavy periods than all those horrid side effects. 1 week on and I think my skin is starting to improve as well.
Wish I had found this site 6 months ago. Your doctor will tell you to give iyt longer and let it settle, but if like me you are sensitive to the Androgens then get it out!
