This is a great site for learning more on this subject where we can get the real facts from real experiences.( Vs. the deception from drug companies who are in the business for profit.)

Lipitor is pure poison, and Dr.'s hand it out like candy. All cholesterol reducing drugs that contain statins can trigger dangerous side effects. Not many of us are informed about the real danger of statins when we are handed the perscription. Inappropriate prescribing of medications will continue to be one of the leading causes of death. And we, the patients,do not always receive enough info. from our Dr.'s about the dangers and side effects from prescription drugs.

I'm 48 yrs. young. Female, small build, (was) healthy and active, happy, and an empty nester! My husband and I had moved to another province and hence had to find a new Dr.

I was prescribed lipitor 10 mg. daily after a routine check up by my Dr. because my cholesterol was a little high.

I started taking it in the winter 2005. I stopped taking it in mid June 2007... My side effects were progressive , drug induced, and it escalated to near disabling.

I knew something was terribly wrong. Was it A.L.S., M.S., West Nile, Lupis, Alzhiemers Disease, or a new designer disease? I did not suspect that the drug lipitor was the cause until much later.

At first, my Dr. said it was menopause. I should mention; since I've quit taking the drug 3 months ago, I have no symptoms of menopause !
At least my Dr. has acknowledged and diagnosed the cause of these profound symptoms." Myopathy as a result of statins."

Signs & symptoms I experienced are as follows;

Severe stomach pain.
Muscle pain, aching , weakness, stiffness, tenderness esp.to the lower extremities. Eventually, I could only shuffle to walk.
Pain in the palms of hands.
Stiff neck, shoulders, arms and lower back.
Trouble getting up from a seated position, and climbing stairs.
Extreme fatigue.
Hot and cold sweats
Night sweats
Fevers. High and low grade fevers.
Ringing in the ears.
Difficulty swallowing, and fear of choking.
Pain in the esophagus.
Memory loss, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness.
NO appetite, yet a lot of weight gained around the abdomen area.Bloated.
NO taste buds.
Speech affected, slurring words and mispronouncing. Tongue felt swollen.
Trouble breathing at night, would wake up coughing ( and I was not smoking then).
Trouble sleeping.
Loss of balance and coordination.
Blurred vision esp. in the morning.
Sharp shooting pains in the Rt. thigh.

Most of the symptoms have now subsided. I still have some foot pain and leg cramps and muscle stiffness... and poor concentration. Putting this together has been done with great difficulty, as I seem to pause a great deal and forget what I was trying to say. The recovery process is slow but at least it's progress. My Dr. has not prescribed any more medication. I've done my own research, after the fact, and started taking coQ10. and I've noticed a big difference!

Quality of life? Well, I'd rather have high cholesterol and die from that, than be poisoned again by statins. What quality is there, to live an extremely painful, useless and unfulfilling life? We were all guinea pigs, and we paid a terrible price for this! I hope we all can recover from this with no long term side effects.
If you are considering taking cholesterol lowering drugs do some careful research on statin drugs before you take them, and read the testimonies from those effected by them.

I have been experiencing severe hair loss and thought it was the Fosamax, so stopped that drug, but the hair loss is continuing. I have found only one article relating Singular to hair loss.

I started 10mg Lisinopril about the middle of May. Two weeks later I drove home from Vegas with the most violent cough I ever had. It took a few days to pass, and I lost my voice for over a month. I never put it together til I seen all these posts. Anyway, about two months ago, I started getting that same feeling everyone else gets of my hips, legs and feet giving out after walking a block or less. It continues to get worse til this day. Also, 2 weeks ago my left foot started numbing up off and on and eventually became permanent whenever I am not standing up. Now the past 3 days, my big toe and top of my ankle have a pain in it that is unbearable. The worst pain I have ever felt. I told the doctor about this site, and he looked at my foot, which has now swelled and became red, and decided to set me up to see if I have artery blockage. He doesnt believe what I have said about this site, but also had no problem with me quitting the drug, so I did yesterday. I have also felt sluggish and tired at work all the time over the past 3 months, and just hated trying to do small work, and instead wanted a bed. I will report back after my artery test and let you know what happens to my foot in a couple weeks. This drug is horrible regardless and from what I have experienced, I feel sorry for everyone who is suffering and has yet to find this site.

Hi, I am 25 and had never taken birth control prior to 1 yr. ago when I started Yasmin. I will be honest I was nervous because I am allergic to everything, but my cycle was so long and irregular that I felt I had to do something. I really think this works pretty well with my body chemistry. I gained maybe 4 lbs. over the last year no biggie, but I do occasionally have headaches right after my cycle behind my eyes. The only other thing that is a bit odd is I do get a tingling sporadically in my legs and hands. Before reading your blogs I didn't realize this was a side effect of the pill and would never had put it together. I watch all of those crazy restless leg commercials and I was beginning to think I had that lol. But thanks for your input it helps. I think I will stick with this pill for a while longer my only concern is if it has long term neg. effects when you stop taking it... any thoughts?

For the desperate boyfriend.....

Something similiar happened in my relationship when I was taking ortho tricyclen. I had a great boyfriend, but about a month into the pill I became very discontented with my relationship. So much so, I broke up with my boyfriend. After the breakup I stayed on the pill and I started having anxiety attacks about events that happened years earlier, and I started developing some obsessive behaviours. I stopped the pill, but not because of the side effects. You see, I wasn't aware that there was any. Those feelings I had about my relationship were very real to me at the time, and It's only in hindsight do I realize that those negative feelings were hormone induced. I got into another relationship and I decided that I was going to try a new pill, Ortho cyclen. Well, the same thing started happening! I became very discontented, and anxious - but this time I put it together and realized what was causing it, and stopped. Now I'm on Yasmin, and things are great. I'm back with the original guy that I broke up with - who incidentally is a saint for putting up with me.

These feelings your girlfriend has are very, very real to her. They may be justified, or they may be hormonal - There's no way to know. I just noticed similarities in our situations, and I thought you might like to know a different point of view.

I was initially put on the 250 and thought it was wonderful because I could breathe again ! After about 4 months though I began to have episodes of my knees and ankles collapsing with no notice. I was hurting in all of my joints and went through a whole series of tests for rheumatoid arthritis which came out negative. My doctor reduced the Advair to 100 since I was breathing so well and these problems with my joints got somewhat better. I did not put it together with the reduction in Advair dosage. THen about 6 months later, my asthma became worse and he upped me to the 250 again. Well, I can breathe but I am unable to walk very well. My knees, ankles, elbows and shoulders all ache constantly. I am afraid of falling as my knees and ankles give out several times a day. It is really frightening. I have told my doctor that I think there is a connection, but he dismisses my theory. I think he thinks I am a hypochondriac !!! I am upset because I really think there is a connection and I know this was a new drug and now I am worried that if I get off of it my ashtma will be worse than before.

I have taken Cipro, another quinolones drug, before without any major side affects. I also was given single treatments of Levaquin by my uro after treatments for IC with no major problems. I was put on Avelox another quinolones drug a couple of weeks ago for a sinus infection and my neck and shoulders became very stiff and sore. I continued the meds. I had been on them a few days when I got a large cyst on my face ( I don't believe this was related to that drug but maybe another one I am on for IC.) The doctor put me on K-FLex and gave me shots of another antibiotic. I still had the shoulder pain but still didn't put it together. I went back for a recheck a couple of days later and the doctor added Levaquin to the mix. The first night I took it I woke up a couple of hours later with my whole right side in pain....worse than when my gallbladder died and had to be removed. I had to sit up to sleep and got little rest. I am on Vicodin for my IC and that helped some. I told my doctor when I went in that day for the recheck and he said it was muscle pain. I took it again that night with the same reaction only worse. I took myself off of the Levaquin as my cyst is getting much better and the K-Flex is working. I still took the Avelox then next night with the same pain result. I have taken myself off of that too. Today my pain is down by about half to the point that the Vicodin is keeping it down to a dull roar. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow before returning to work. I will tell my doctor to never give this to me again and will be getting a medic alert to protect myself for receiving it in the future. I was ready to go to ER thinking my Liver or Appendix was in trouble. I will still have my doctor do another liver function test tomorrow, I had one just before going on this medication for other things and it was normal then.

I know that you can take qunolones one or more times without any major problems because I have. But be aware because the next time you take them it may not be the case.
