i discovered that i had hyperthyroidism which was from grave's disease and grave's thyroid eye disease in jan. 2009. at the end of march i had my thyroid removed. never let anyone use the radiation treatment if it is in your eyes. my surgeon said if we had waited another week i would have been dead. they started me on 75 mcg of levoxyl. it made me mean, i prayed to God to let me die in my sleep every night. the dosage was changed to 88 mcg. my hair was falling out by the handfuls. i kept calling my dr. and being told it was normal. i lost 75% of my hair mass almost to non reversible. i have been on appearex and women's rogaine once a day and am using nioxin hair cleanser and conditioner for 2 months. i have new growth thank goodness. my toes almost froze off my feet, the headaches cannot even be described, i gained 40 lbs, this will be the 3rd time in 7 mos. they need to change my dosage to 100 mcg. my body cannot take it. today i am starting synthroid. until i found this site today i had no idea most of my agony was from levoxyl and it's side effects. thanks so much for all the information. good luck to everyone.

I have been on Snythroid for 20 years. I had radiation treatment. I have experienced weight gain and most recently I think my hair is thinning. I take 1 0.15mg everyday except Sunday.I was reading a book that said the medication can cause loss of bone mass. I have been taking 1000 mg of Calcium a day. If you don't get those levels checked you will feel terrible! Take it from me! Thanks for sharing snythroid family

I had my thyroid removed because of cancer. I was 18 years old. At that time, I was put on Armour thyroid because that was the only thing available. I am now 56. Somewhere along the line they figured out how to make chemical thyroid and of course I was put on it - for the next 35 years. Blood checked so many times I can't remember, dosages changed. Always a runny nose, hot and cold always a problem. I drink something hot and I start sweating, I drink something with ice and I get the chills. Back on Armour now - not the absolute best - but certainly much better than synthroid! Still what do you do when you have no thyroid? Also to let you all know, after the thyroid was removed I was treated with Radioactive Iodine, and told that I probably could not have children. Well, I am stubborn - I have three boys - had them at ages 23, 25 and 37! Many, many problems through the years ( oh yeah, the radiation treatment that I had at 1 month old fried my thymus as well as starting the cancer - it took 17 years for the cancer to develop. It was only after all this that they began to find out the you really did need a thymus too. Oh well, I could go on and on. So find me a solution to my thyroid that is gone. Can we regrow it like they are regrowing ears, fingers, etc?? Something to look into for the medical profession...

I am was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism about 2 years ago. I took the radiation treatment and was placed on Synthroid. Every 4 weeks the dosage was adjusted until my Dr doc determined 0.125mcg worked best for me. Well, at the time I was diagnosed I weighted about 150 pounds. Two years later I am at 180. I'm 5'8 so my doctor(s) tell me my weight is in portion to my height. Well, the extra weight is centered around my stomach and hips, I am extremely fatigued and lethargic, I have brain fog and would like to exercise but I'm just too tired. I heard about Armour but from reading some of the other experiences, it doesn't appear to be the 'cure all' solution either.

My sister was prescribed Avelox on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Within 15-20 minutes she began having breathing difficulties. Because she has asthma her initial thought was that she was having an asthma attack. She tried asthma treatment and it didn't help. She soon was unable to breath. Her husband called 911, they responded quickly but had to intubate her in the ambulance. They know that she was without oxygen to her brain for at least 3-5 minutes. This caused seizures that lasted 20 hours before I.C.U. could get them under control. Unfortunately it caused brain damage leaving her with no higher brain function (vegetative state). As she has worked in the medical field for over 14 years she did not wish to be kept alive by artificial means. On Tuesday, March 18, 2008 her ventilation tube and feeding tube were removed. It is now Thursday, March 20, 2008 and she is in a wonderful Hospice House awaiting her death.
She had taken the same class of antibiotic in the past with no reaction. Really not sure what caused this one. She was going through chemo for breast cancer, but had just finished and was scheduled to start her radiation treatment. Her chemo doctor told us that since her reaction, they have had another patient who went into anaphylactic shock after taking Avelox.
My sister is only 43 years old. This medication should be taken off the market.

I have been on Levoxyl for about 13 years now I am 26. Last year I started experiencing joint pain and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Lately I have been having dizzy spells where I get hot and feel like I need to sit down before I pass out. Also experiencing extreme fatigue off and on for about 5 years. Now after reading this I am wondering if all this is related to the Levoxyl. I am wondering if people who have been on the med awhile started noticing side effects years into their treatment as I don't remember these symptoms when I first started the med. Also what are other options prescription wise. After seeing this site I am going to go see an endocrinologist and discuss all this with them.

I had Hoshimotos Thyroiditis which turned cancerous and thyroid had to be removed . My daughter ( age 36) had the same thing with the same outcome.Since my surgery I had radiation treatment and now I was put on lavoxyl 125Micrograms.I have sleepless nights and no regulation of body temperature .One minute I am hot the ,next I am freezing . At least I don't feel like a walking dead person like when I was off of everything for my radiation treatment, but I still need to find something that will control my body temp and I also get bad headaches and have memory loss.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2004. Began taking Lupron Depot in 3 month intervals for 13 months because of the advanced stage of the cancer before radiation treatment. Almost immediately, side effects occurred, to wit: hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, aggitation, severe headaches, ringing in the ears, dizziness, muscle and joint pain--particular in the neck, shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles--anxiety and panic attacks, bewilderment, night and day sweats for no apparent reason, high blood pressure and incidents of weakness accompanied by unexplainable general feeling of being ill. Ceased taking the Lupron in fall of 2004. I am still experiencing most (not all) of the side effects. Blood tests have shown the presence of the drug in amounts higher than expected still in my body however continuing to diminish. Good luck! Being strong willed is a must to endure many of the side effects delineated here. I anticipate I have 2 or 3 more years of hell before the Lupron dissipates from my body. "And this will pass..."

I'm 35 yr female now with Hypothyroid. Had surgery on 12/22/04 to have a total thyroidectomy to remove papillary carcinoma. I have to waite for my radiation treatment until March 2005 (UPSET!!!) The doctor has put me on Cytomel 50MCG once a day, until my radiation can be done.
Not sure of the side effects yet, this will be my 3rd on the medication. A little scare right now, not sure or how long it will take to get into my system. But I have had a slight headache and sweating at night for the last two nights.
