When I started taking Lexapro I had the light headeness, rapid heartbeats, if I took the pill in the morning I was sleepy all day and if I took it at night I was wide awake. I was told to wait about a month for the drug to be in my system. That all went away. I lost weight while I was on Lexapro. That was my silly pill. It made me hyper and I could drink liquor with out a hangover (not to give anyone ideas!!) The only thing I didn't like about the drug was it makes you go dumb. Things that really bothered me didn't bother me and what I wanted to remember I couldn't remember...I was constantly writing notes down. Besides a silly pill it's a DUH pill.

I'm a 43 y/o male, on Toprol-Xl (25mg) and Diovan(80-mg) for high blood pressure. I've been on Diovan since it hit the market (no side effects at all) but recently developed a fast heart rate with no explaination. I saw a cardiologist and he put me on 25mg of Toprol-XL once each day. It's been 7 weeks and I'm fairly well adjusted with few minor side effects (slow pulse, cold extremities, weird chest feelings when the Toprol starts to wear off) and a major side effect (lack of sleep and weird dreams).
I read an article that Toprol-XL is time released and the medication has it's peak affect 8-hours after taking the dose. I was taking the medication with dinner, but would then wake up at 3:00 am, wide awake, couldn't fall back to sleep. I now take the medication with lunch and my sleep patterns have improved considerably. My incredibly, sometimes scary, dreams have tapered off too. My blood pressure is picture perfect (usually 115-125 over 70 to 80) and the bursts of rapid heartbeats have stopped altogether (I had an echo stress test, echocardiogram, blood work, 3 EKG's) and all were normal. My cardiologist said all my side effects are normal and that if i couldn't tolerate them he would switch my beta blocker.

I was started on Toprol-XL after a triple bypass in 2000. I had experienced several episodes of rapid heartbeats. For the next 7 years I took it daily and had no side effects that I was aware of other than feeling a little weak if I missed a dose.
During this time, I was diagnosed as a diabetic and started on Lantus insulin. I had some gastric side effects from the Metformin but other than that I was doing ok. I was and am still overweight but I was also in good enough shape to walk 30 minutes everyday on my treadmill and to hold down a stressful job.
In September of 2007 I hosted a large family reunion at my house and had no physical problems. Right after that I came down with a bad sore throat and was put on Clindamycin. At the same time, my husband went to refill my meds and came back with the generic version of my Toprol-XL. Our insurance now requires us to use generics if available. Within two weeks I was having shortness of breath just walking up the steps into my house. I at first thought it was a hang over from the sore throat and went to my GP. He had me switch back to the original Toprol-XL and I felt an almost immediate relief. However, the symptoms did not go away entirely, in fact after seeming better, they came back again. I went back to my GP. He was concerned enough to want to send me to a cardiologist. Since we had just moved here a year ago I had not visited a cardiologist as yet so this doctor was new to me and my symptoms.
So far we have done a nuclear stress test, echocardiogram, EKG's, heart cath, lung scan, and numerous blood tests. Everything looks good according to the cardiologist. And yet, I cannot walk through my house without stopping to try and catch my breath, I have had to quit work since I can no longer climb the stairs to the second floor offices, I cannot sweep a floor without having to sit down.
Is it possible that a side effect from this generic drug could have damaged something permanently? Has anyone else had any kind of problem like this?

I am 30 years old and I've been on Singulair for about 2 1/2 months now. I noticed about 2 weeks after taking it that I started getting a pain in the left side of my head accompanied with shortness of breath. Within weeks I started having rapid heartbeats, shortness of breath, dizziness and slight hallucinations (like shadows out of the corner of my eyes). I would experience these episodes for only about 5 seconds at a time. I also noticed that I my ears were ringing a lot, and I was having leg and foot cramps more frequently. At first I thought these were panic attacks because I am in the process of moving, and have been under more stress than usual. I now think it could potentially be a side effect from this medication. I woke up 6 times last night with all of the symptoms and was considering going to the emergency room. I am going to the doctor today to find out what is causing these problems and if it is related to singular. Today is the first day that I am not taking it.

My own experience with advair is that I almost died from dangerous arythymias. I developed atrial fibulation with rapid ventricular response. At one point they were considering stopping my heart and restarting it because it was so eratic. It was awful to feel like your life could end at any moment. I have read so many comments on rapid heartbeats this is the seravent? in this product..ask your pharmicist about it.zupura@att.net

I have been taking Toprol for about a year for elevated heart rate. It slowed down my heart allright, and my metabolism slowed down with it! I've gained 20 lbs in a year! I joined Weight Watchers 9 weeks ago expecting to lose about 10 lbs by now. I keep a food journal, eat per the program and exercise 5 times a week. I have lost NOTHING. It is very depressing when you do everything that you're supposed to to lose weight and nothing happens. I am going to discuss other alternatives with my physician.

Out of all the other inhalers, this one is by far the best. the only side effects I experience are rapid heartbeats, which can cause insomnia when taken at bedtime.

Well, sorry, but didn't you read all the stories of the women around here who are all telling the same or similar stories???
You are not sure, if this all is caused by Yasmin but were a happy person ever before taking it??? I don't really understand your problem, sorry. What else could have brought on the anxiety and depression and all the other symptoms in you, if all that started while taking Yasmin??
And I don't understand, that someone doesn't go the easiest way of getting out of anxiety at first: GETTING OFF YASMIN IMMEDIATELY!! Instead you take other medicine on top and mess your whole system up completely!! I was put on Zoloft a year and a half ago, too, and I didn't cope with it at all.
Waking up with rapid heartbeats and breaking out in sweats, thinking I was going to die was only one of the symptoms brought on by the mix of Yasmin and Zoloft! I was never able to take any of this Antidepression medicine longer than about 3 days until I was messed up completely (at last I was walking around with a completely foggy feeling in my head and dizziness all the day!!). And now I know, that it never could have worked as long as I was taking this Yasmin ***!!!
Please think twice about your body and what you're doing to it before just saying "yes" to everything the doctor's tell you in their "I don't think Yasmin can cause all this"-way!!! Under a dozen of doctor's I just found 2! who have the opinion, that Yasmin IS really causing such problems!! And I'm so thankful, that I found these doctor's and this website because without them perhaps I would still put this Yasmin poison in my body and get worse each day without noticing, what it really is, that is making my life so unworth to live on!!!
Please do the only right thing: GET OFF THIS POISON NOW!!
Best wishes to you!!
