I have been on Lo-es for 4 yrs now and just recently started having side effects. I was diagnosed with migraines back in Sept 08. My doctor told me to take the pill continuously. That seemed to work for a while. My periods which started out painful and heavy went to super light and no pain. But now it is the same thing again and I am bleeding throughout the month with no stopping. My latest side effects, I have notice swelling in my feet, toes and calves. It is painful and gets worse as the day goes on. Since Sept 08 I have gain 50 lbs. My doctor is running blood tests every two weeks to find out what is wrong with me. So far everything has come back normal. After reading what you ladies have posted I am thinking of taking my self off of this pill. I take it for regularity. I had my tubes tied 7 yrs ago and since then my periods gradually got worse that is why OB put me on Lo-es

I just started my second pack of Loestrin 24 Fe two days ago. I have not had any nausea, weight gain, unusual acne, loss of libido, or crazy mood swings. I have, however, had non-stop breakthrough bleeding. In the past month, there has only been one day where I was not bleeding. I take it at the same time every morning and have not missed a day. I'm really trying to be patient and give it a couple more months...but it has gotten very annoying. I got on the pill because I recently decided to become sexually active. Having my period 24/7, though, has kept me from actually wanting to start. I was on Ortho (the original) back in high school for regularity, and it made me gain 15 pounds and have intense mood swings. Beyond the btb, I love the lack of weird side effects....has anybody made it past the first 3 months to find more regularity with no side effects?

Unfortunately I just went thru a termination of pregnancy 3 weeks ago and the doctor has put me on Loestrin Fe24. I have only been on it 10 days and since day 2 have been "constipated" and bloated. I have lower back pain and feel awful. I went to the hospital because the pain in my abdomen was so bad I thought I had a blockage. The ER doctor asked if I were on the pill but I gave him the wrong information about when I started taking it by accident. But since I have been on the pill is when my "regularity" stopped. I am 33 years old and very active and never had this problem before. Doctor said there was no blockage blood and urine came back fine..No kidney infection nothing....It just occurred to me this morning that everything starting changing when I started this pill. Has anyone else had "bowel issues" since taking this pill?

I have been taking the generic form of Wellbutrin (social anxiety with a touch of ADHD) for just over six months and as much as I hate to admit it, I believe that the bad is finally, convincingly, outweighing the good.
The good things that came along with 150mg of the SR every morning at 11:00: Weight loss (but only after an initial one month period of eating every form or carbohydrate I could find), it seems to brighten the whites of my otherwise cloudy eyes, helped me maintain conversations with people that I would have normally cut off early, and possibly--but only possibly--helps me focus (although the hyper focus that I used to get via the ADHD is gone. Completely. Non-existent.)
Which brings me to the bad: This goes against most of what I've read other people experience on Wellbutrin but lethargy has set in. And it feels like it's here to stay. It's not really a sedated lethargy but more of a false contentment that everything is just fine the way it is. No progression, no improvement, and looking to the future is almost impossible through the fog. I too, during the first two or three weeks, had the speedy, productive reaction to the medication. But that has subsided. Next, hair loss has become a concern. I'm in my thirties and it could be just how it goes but I truly doubt it. Mild constipation may seem bearable but I miss regularity more than I have time to describe. Ringing in the ears. Impaired memory. Confusion. Forgetfulness to a fault. Mild hives on the back. Irritability. A marked shortness of breath. After one month on Wellbutrin, I could barely run a mile on the treadmill when I've been accustomed to flying through three to five with ease. I feel weak, vulnerable even. Working out has therefore fallen to the wayside. And last, but probably the worst, this medication has seemed to cultivate a serious craving for other drugs. I can't explain it but I can't take it anymore either.
Like most people on a medication, I have read numerous posts and some people share some of my concerns but mostly, it seems that the people who report in are the speedy folks on day two or week two. That is, in my opinion, only a bit helpful, since these effects are usually short-lived. Wellbutrin started out with promise but while parts of me look into the mirror and see an improvement, underneath it all, I know that it is purely a nicely dressed form of prescribed avoidance.
I haven't posted this to discourage anyone. If it works for you--great. Really. But I also haven't read anyone's experience that matched my own so I figured it might help someone who is going through any of the same. Good luck.

Hi Ladies,
I had mine fitted may 06, i had heavy BLEEDING ND CRAMPING and no other contraception was suiting my body, so i got Mirena. Yes it helped to a certain extent. Later that year, i was still having some lil health issues, turned out i had some food allergies, too much estrogen and no real progesterone and thyroid problem. So this helped. My doctor put me on a natural progesterone cream, which was great, my skin started clearing up and my bleeding started getting some regularity, as i was pretty much bleeding every 2 weeks.
My health this year has gotten worse, excess Odema, acne, tiredness, mood swings, no sex drive, nausea which has always been contant, swelling around my belly etc. I feel horrible, now i also have adrenal fatigue however, I have given lots of thought and am going to get the Mirena removed. My weight is just going up, and all i want to do is be healthy, i exercise and eat well about 80%, so i am hoping that with this being removed, my doc said then i can go back onto my progesterone cream and help regulate my cycle. And also the lack of cycle, constant cramping, then a i get heavy or the odd light cycle. I just want to be happy.
Let me know if anyone else is feeling this way. And with having it removed, how i might feel.
By the way, i am 26 years old, and have no children as yet
xx
Sarah

I never put two and two together... but starting thinking that my mirena's hormones may be causing my issues. I had the mirena inserted a yr ago when I had the copper IUD removed. I told my OB/GYN that I was scared of the pill after trying it in college. Hormone-based birth control doesn't seem to work well for my family. She said it was a tiny dose and wouldn't get in the bloodstream so I shouldn't see side effects. HOWEVER, over the last year I have struggled with my weight. I have always been reallllly lucky. I am 5'8 and weigh about 135 without trying too hard. I have a high metabolism. But, I've started to feel pudgy last few months so have really tightened up my diet. I thought it was because I am getting older (29)...
As far as exercise, I used to be very active (mini-triathlons, 5Ks, sports etc.) but haven't felt like working out this year. Just can't get motivated. Today I was working with a personal trainer. We checked my records from January and I have gained 7 lbs!!! This is after I have really firmed up my diet. I have stopped eating carbs at night and trying to not eat after 7ish. In the past, this would really help my body look its best after a week or two. But, these last few months hasn't seemed to help me at all... Maybe it's the MIRENA?!
In addition, my cycle is about 7 days lator than it used to be. However, I still have the PMS symptoms I used to the week before my period but now they last forever! They start on the 20th and last until my period starts on the 7th!!! I get so irritable with my 5 yr old its ridiculous. It's not fair to her or my husband. I just wanted to share, that even with an athletic body type and a ridiculously high metabolism I am struggling. 2 yrs. ago I could eat 2300 calories w/out exercise, 2500 or more if working out that day. I used to eat as much as my 6'2 husband.

I don't know if my dry skin is from the Levoxyl or not. I'm on 25 mcg's and have been for about four years now and am seeking to be off of it as it is the only medication I'm now taking with regularity. As an asthmatic with a slight hypothyroid condition, I've just done "what the doctors ordered." Now at the age of forty-four I'm starting to do some of my own research and be my own advocate. I don't have answers for anyone but I strongly suggest you do some reading at the ****. Just plug Dr. Mercola in a search engine and you should find it. What a wealth of wonderful and informative reading. Watch the "Allopath" video. Food for thought. Physicians treat symptoms and while I'm glad that many meds are there, I'm thinking that the first line of defense AND offense ought to be a look at one's daily nutrition and exercise as well as hydration levels.
Blessings

I have been on Yasmin for exactly a year now; I switched to it from my last BC because I was having periods for 2 to 3 weeks at time. Yasmin has fixed my period regularity but since then I have had ABSOLUTELY NO SEX DRIVE. That is really really weird for me... so naturally I was freaking out and thinking that maybe something was wrong with me or with my relationship with my bf, until one of my friends told me that she started having the same problem when she started taking Yasmin. Now, after reading this site I feel even better about what's going on with me. I am afraid to switch pills again, though because I had so many problems before. I just want my normal sex drive back!!
Also, has anyone else experienced chest pain?? I have sharp pains in the right side of my chest and in my right arm. It has only recently started and I thought, at first, that it might have something to do with my acid reflux but after reading everyone's comments it sounds like it might have something to do with Yasmin. I would appreciate any comments or advice!

I never saw much effect of taking the generic version of Maxide. Perhaps less blurred vision while taking it. This last year I gained weight and my heartbeats have gotten worse in regularity. So I stopped it currently to see what happens, and am monitoring blood pressure, as well as dieting and excercise. just tring to see if calcium and potassium levels are out of balance.

I would recommend getting off of Yasmin right away. As soon as possible. And I'll tell any woman here that message. It does horrible, horrible things to your body and if you had the time to sort through all the msgs. here and on the other website, the regularity of your cycle is the least thing to be worried about. Women have died from stokes, suffered from pulmonary embolisms, fatigue, heart palps...brain lesions appears to be the newest on the actual forum page (see link at top of page) as well as one women who end up in ER for pulmonary thrombosis!

The only side effects I have noticed are moodiness and low iron levels. My mood changes constantly, and a Hallmark commercial is enough to make me cry. I don't feel depressed, and most of the time I am fine. My fiance and I get into arguments all the time over trivial things, and until now, I didn't want to blame it on hormones, but after reading others' posts, I definitely think Yasmin is the cause for it. I never used to be this sensitive over every little thing.
Regarding iron levels: Pre-Yasmin, my iron count was alway high. I regularly give blood, and had never had a problem until recently, and I have been told twice in the last few months that my iron count is too low to donate. I thought that it was because I wasn't getting enough iron-rich foods, and have even taked iron supplements occasionally to help with fatigue (I can't go to late movies anymore b/c I will fall asleep in the theater), but nothing seems to help.
I am getting married in May, and I am afraid if I go off of Yasmin now, it will mess with the regularity of my cycle, and I would rather not be on my period on my wedding day and on my honeymoon. I don't know if it would be better to wait it out (I have been planning on getting off birth control all together once we're married). Any advice?

I have been taking ovcon 35 for about 5 months. The first 2 months were akward of course cause this is my first time ever being on birth control. Things were uncomfterable. Ive gotten my period on time every month and they are shorter. Only 3-5 days at most. The bleeding has slowed down and so has the cramps. But really the cramps havnt gone away. When im not on your period i get severe abdominal pain and my ovaires are constantly pounding. The first 3 months i still got nausa and discomfort. Now that im on my 5th pack ive noticed ive gained 8 pounds. 8 pounds of fat straight to my butt and boobs. My cup size went from a 32 B to a 34 C and my pant size changed from a 1-2 to a 3-4. I dont know if this is suposed to be the symptoms of this pill but i am sure within the next month or so im changing pills. It has made me change eating habbits and my body is very weak. I used to be toned and in shape and now i have lost intrest in everything. I am finding my self to be lazy and basicly a couch potato. I read that the other women have experienced wonderful results. I hope my personal experience hasnt brought any negitive thoughts about getting on the pill. It is great for someone who needs pregnancy protection and regularity of there menstrual cycle besides that i wouldnt reccommend this to anyone.

Help. I think I need assistance.
I didn't think I had any problems with Mirena, but now I am not so sure. I have had my Mirena in since March of 2003. I have had no problems to speak of - next to no periods, light spotting - things have been great.
I had always been overweight. I had weight loss surgery (Duodenal Switch) in December of 2007 and have lost 100 lbs. I've seen my gynecologist during this time and things are fine.
Recently, I'd say in the past five months or so - I bleed for no reason. I have no pain and no side effects to speak of other than this bleeding. It comes and goes with no regularity whatsoever.
I am 46 years old. What should my next step be?
