I had a kidney transplant feb08. I was put on prednisone as a rejection med. So far, i have gained 50 lbs, my hair has fallen out, had mood swings when first put on it. Haven't noticed them lately, have little bumps under my skin, not acne, have started noticing slight breathing problems, when trying to walk to lose the weight. Yesterday I was diagnosed with cataract. Eye doctor said that it is another side effect of the med. I am under the impression that, I am on this for rest of my life. Whats next?

This site has made me realize that I am not crazy. Well, now I am... But not for long, I have had my Mirena since 2/2005 after the birth of my daughter. Yes, there was a lot of cramping at first and the insertion was awful. The Dr. reassured me that I would begin to feel better and gave me time frames as to when cramping and bleeding should stop and may even stop completely. Wow, this is great! I thought... I nursed my first year and at the 6 month mark my production slowed. I've heard this was normal. I was proud that I had gotten down to the pre-baby weight. No credit to Mirena. This was strictly due to nursing and some exercise. At the year mark I became more and more irritable, per my husband. I was Forgetful or should I say had difficulty holding conversations due to forgetting simple words... I was depressed and just plain mean... He was right. I didn't notice until he said it, I was angry all of the time. I was reluctant to go on any pills; I feared I would be labeled as crazy. So, instead of meds we ended up needing to see a marriage counselor. Yep, after 5 months of babbling about my childhood and bringing about a normal conversation with my husband again, I end up taking medication. I had been convinced this was simply a little postpartum and everybody is depressed after a baby so I was put on some generic version of Prozac (temporarily). Had some dizzy spells at work (very embarrassing). In the summer of 2006 I started have pain during sex. I could tell it was coming from the ovary. It was on my left side. Of course, my husband had to deal to with the constant feeling of rejection. I was thinking I'm just constipated and the added pressure is well... you get the idea... Hurting everything else. After a few months of this I made an appointment with my OB doctor. I had a 5 cm cyst! I was told this could burst or possibly twist. Then I am restricted to no sex and light exercise. Within 3 months that cyst burst it sent a burning sensation through my abdomen to my upper thighs. I have a lot of abdominal pain and bloating. I went in several times later but was never diagnosed with having anything wrong. Suggested to see an Oncologist (never went). Now to the current year of the Mirena... I mentioned earlier that I had lost all of my weight back to 114 pounds (I'm petite). Within the last 4 months I have put on 17pound and still climbing. I am having some horrible pains on the right side now which I know is the return of another one of those cysts. It must be a dozy, this one really hurts. And having acne breakouts of a teenager. So let’s review... From this post I have experienced the depression, cyst, weight gain, acne, forgetfulness, dizziness, stomach pains, bloating. I want it out I had scheduled to get it done on 7/17. My husband freaked and now has scheduled to get a vasectomy. He has asked me to wait until his procedure has been done before I go through with it. So, I am waiting but am interested to hear how soon we become normal again when all foreign objects and medications has been removed.

Due to renal transplant (Kidney) I have to be real careful of what types of antibiotics I take. I took my prescription to the pharmacy. The pharmacist at Walgreens stated it had a major drug interaction with my anti-rejection medication. After working with the doctor they prescribed Sulfameth. It worked wonders. I did feel some sadness and was alittle irritable but that outwayed taking the chance that the upper respirtory infection damaged my kidneys and increased my creatnine to where I would be back on dialysis. so a little discomfort for me helped maintain my way of life and that is living my life to fullest and not becoming or behaving like a victim.

I am a kidney transplant recipient and take Prednisone along with anti rejection medication. I have been on and off for about 15 years. I have been on 45mgs on down. I have experienced SEVERE mood swings!!
I feel fine one minute and the next, going so far as to packing up the kids and leaving. We are just now discovering the side effects and are devising a plan to get through these 'mood swings'! I have also experienced stomach, aches and pains as well as peptic ulcers, and the classsic 'moon face'

I cannot imagine that you would be able to sue the company.
With WARNINGS posted on the box and all the literature, it's
almost spelled out in black & white. I guess everyone is free to make up their mind..........which is the lesser of the two evils? Do you breathe, or...........do you use the medication?
That seems to be the choice. My Dr. did take me off the Advair, but I ask for it back because I could not get my breath. So I went back on it knowing what the outcome could be.
I believe it's true with MOST of the medications. I know a person with a heart transplant. The anti-rejection medication gave him cancer. He was told that before it was started, but he had to take the medication or his heart would reject.
Now, his kidneys are ruined from it too and it's a kidney transplant to dialysis. There were a lot of risks with all of it, and I believe that can be the case with all the medications.
It's a choice we all have to make personally.

I have been taking prednisone for six years now. I have not missed a day during that time. I had a transplant and suffered rejection. I have every side effect you can think of. Blurred vision, out of control blood sugar, pain, weakness, mood swings, thrush, acid stomach, just to name a few. I really dont even know what to do,because it seems as though my life depends on it. I think my family is getting tired of having to deal with me as I am always complaining,

i was prescribed meprozine after having a wisdom tooth pulled the day before yesterday ,and hardly can remember any thing afterwards just a hellish blur.it did little to kill the pain but was very succesful at making me too dizzy to walk. i was too disoriented and confused to carry on a conversation with any one and whenever i went into the next room i forgot why i was there. it was all quite embaressing . i took one somwhere between 6 and 7 this morning but didnt take any more .its now 3:15 pm. i'v ben suffering accute feelings of paranioa, insecurity depression rejection and aggravation ,with some hallutionations for the last three days. my coordination is still bad. i had some trouble typing this . i'm angry that they can sell this crap as "pain killer".

I am in the older age bracket of 40 and over and I have had the Mirena for over 3 years and I have had no side effects to speak of. I have had other IUDs in the past and also have had no problems. My bleeding has been minimal to nothing, no weight gain or other side effects that were listed. Each body is different, where some body have higher rejection when have something inserted into it.
