I've been on TOPROL-XL( 50 mg) for about 18 months now. Gained 25 lbs. Lack of interest (consistently) in getting much done. I had an aortic valve replacement 12 years ago and they were recently concerned about an enlargement of the aorta-so they wanted the Toprol to reduce the blood pressure further. Its keeping the pressure steady but not a huge decrease. When I discuss the side effects- they smile beningly. I'm having difficulty with digestive tract issues, also, which seem to be connected with weight gain. Other than fluuid retention- anybody know WHY this cuases weight gain? Anybody had any luck switching to other medications??

I was on Lisinopril for 1 1/2 years (20 mg), and I seemed to have retention of water with other urinary problems, such as darker color, etc. My doctor said that this is not the case, but a friend who is a good doctor in Mexico said that urinary problems were a complication. This was without my saying anything along that line.

I cannot say that all my problems came from Lisinopril, but I was getting sick at every turn: I had coldness in my legs and feet; my heart just gave me fits as it palpitated or whatever out of order; other symptoms!

My doctor did concede and take me off the L because of the congestion/cough problem I had developed. It was not extreme, but I had never had that before.

I now take enelypryl morning and night. I was on that before the L and did not have side effects. I feel so different now after just 10 days or so.

My son was prescribed Singulair for a seasonal bronchial condition. It seemed to be the answer to his problems as the chronic cough stopped. HOWEVER, since then I have had many meetings with his teachers regarding his lack of ability to focus, inability to follow directions, retention and comprehension. In addition, he recently has develped a twitch in his eye where he blinks often and says that his eye burns him. I am so upset. To think that I had such incredible faith in this "wonder" medication that helped my son's cough, but has had such a detrimental effect on his school work. I am stopping the medication today in the hopes that I can save my son's self esteem. I wish somebody had told me what to look out for. After many meetings with teachers and school psychologists I could simply have stopped it all by taking him off the medication. The answer to his difficulty was there in the pink little pill he takes every night. Shame on me. Shame on me. No more singulair for my boy. Never again.

I am using Flomax for 3 weeks....I also suffer from a neurological disease. I was given Flomax after trying other drugs that caused retention....then after an extensive eurodynamics test...it showed the opposite...that my bladder does not contract.
Since taking Flomax, I must tell the doctor when I see him that I must take a sleeping pill, it is causing me insomnia and vivid dreams.
Also, I never woke up to urinate during the night, now I do.
Is my flow better....who knows?
YES....I am a FEMALE!

Thank you voicesi/#12857 for your sound advice.
Unlike you however I have only taken this poisen for 4 months and it's already taking me longer to clean out of it. It seems to me that all of us who didn't get a recurring period are suffering from the bloating so its definitely a hormone issue there. I went on provera recently so I just got my period. the bloating however isn't easing up and I did do all necessary bloodwork and all came back fine except for my T3/T4 which is def. due to yasmin. I'm tempted to take that waterpill for just a short time since I have so much of this retention that it practically ruins my life. The last 3 months was a nightmare. Especially now in the summer, I haven't stepped into a bathing suit yet.
My internist said it takes 6 months for your body to completely clean out of bc. He doesn't believe in natural products and told me that for the next 3 months I should take provera for 7 days starting on day 20 of my cycle so like this i will regulate my menstruation to 30 days thereafter.
It is all so confusing. everyone with different opinions.
Thanks everyone for your support and keep posting your strides in recovery. You all give us strength to hold out!
Love and light,
Sherry

I started my 'adventure' with anti-depressants 9 months ago.
The first was Zoloft. I began to feel totally weird and out of it, I couldnt function or barely talk. I was told this was depression and I was hospitalised and then it was changed to Effexor.
It was increased up to 300 mg a day.
I NEVER felt anything good from this stuff! all i had were the side effects
-Couldnt sleep
-awful sweating but just in the hairline.
-NO feelings
-NO taste of food (guess thats why the weight loss)
-NO energy
-felt like I had morning sickness all day.
-SCARIEST thing... it was like my IQ was chopped in half!
-I still have no retention of things I read or things that happen
-Constant thoughts of suicide. (more than when i was just depressed and not on medication)

Im trying to get off it now... slowly... and its tough. At least the sweating has finally stopped and I can taste food a bit.

I have absolutely NOTHING GOOD to say about Effexor. Its supposed to be industrial strenth for the severely depressed but I dont feel it did a thing.
I would not take it again, knowing how it was.

of course now, im supposed to be trying Wellbutrin. I dont see anything coming from that either.
