It is too soon to tell if YAZ has contributed to my daughter's problems but her doctor just recommend that she stop taking it immediately.

My daughter is 17, in the last two years she has had mono twice. It all started with spasms in her back and neck two years ago, then her neck lymph glands started swelling and she kept getting horrible viral sore throats. Next her blood pressure started dropping radically. 85/50 for no reason, next she started getting terrible stomach pains and then headaches, nausea, watery eyes, irritable bowl syndrome and then the glands in the area of her appendix swelled up so much the emergency room thought she had appendicitis. It was her glands, not her appendix. This was all over a 2 year time frame. None of the symptoms had any rhyme or reason and they all came and went erratically. However, they were making her miserable and me miserable because she was depressed, very moody and unhappy and sick!

The only thing she has ever taken during all this time was YAZ. I asked her doctor if the YAZ could contribute to the swelling of the lymph glands and he did not think so. That was a year ago. Yesterday, I took my daughter to a Rheumatologist and when he heard she was on the YAZ he told her to stop immediately and prescribed a low dosage of muscle relaxer and an anti inflammatory. I have no way to know whether all of these symptoms are going to clear up. I have started my daughter on a wellness plan of eating which includes lots of holistic methods. Hard to get a teen away from comfort foods when they don't feel well but she is resigned to the fact that her immune system is so compromised that if she ever wants to feel well we have to try drastic measures.

She has had almost all the symptoms described as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and I am told that's what she has now. It is possible that the YAZ had made all of this worse. She sleeps endlessly and only time off of the YAZ will tell, but as a mom I wanted her off this pill a year ago and I am upset that I didn't do more to get her off it. It took her missing 60 days of school consecutively for a doctor to say STOP and see if it helps. My feeling is she couldn't be much worse, well actually that's the direction this seemed to be going. I think that the estrogin has fed many of the problems my daughter has had, but I am not a doctor and it's just my mom opinion.

Only time will tell.

I was taking Singulair for about a month. It seemed to work great. It relieved chest tightness and breathing related anxiety. HOWEVER, I got SEVERE muscle aches and pains that floated to different parts of my body, without warning rhyme or reason, from my head to my toes. The pain would last from a few seconds, to a few mins. and can return in the same spot, or appear somewhere totally different in a few seconds. I have been off of Singulair for about 2 weeks now. The pains have subsided from very severe (crying it hurt so bad) and now they are still there but achey rather than debilitating. Does anyone know how long this should last?

I have just turned 30 and like many of you have tried all sorts of different types of contraception, most of which have caused some sort of reaction but i was told that the Mirena would be best as so low in hormones and would help reduce the heavy bleeding that started with the implant.

For 3 years everything was fine, i then started to get spots around my jaw line and back which I've never suffered with before, bloated, tired, pilled on the pounds....not surprisingly though as i was always craving food, really nasty stomach and back aches, i started bleeding all over the place with no rhyme or reason. I went to the doctor as I thought there was something wrong and it took quite a time for me to put it all together but the doctor just thought i was being over dramatic. To put my mind at rest he sent me for a scan which showed up lots of adhesions from where i had my son.

I came home and looked the Mirena up....why i never did this before i have no idea and now am so mad with myself as i could have got this sorted out months ago...hence to say i was back down the Doctors that day to get it removed. Its only been 5 days now and i have the flu but i feel a million times better...i'm bleeding still but thats it to be expected, at least its helping to get rid of any of the hormones which are left in there. The more i read i can see that i have many other "problems" the same as many other ladies, my husband said its like i had PMT but i never believed him.

Thank you to this site as if i hadn't of read all your comments i would still be suffering. The only downside is that it looks like we will be having to use condoms (latex free which are not nice due to an allergy) till we have finished having kids. I do feel sorry for my husband but i think I've gone through enough over the last 10 years with pill, injection, implant and the coil. Roll on the male pill i say!

I have been SO EXHAUSTED ever since I had my Mirena put in (almost 2 months now). I have a toddler at home and am a single mom, so sure there is already a propensity to be tired, but not like this. I find myself unable to stay awake - I lay down any chance I can, and I sleep in a fog that feels similar to when you're sick and just so "out of it" that you can't imagine being fully awake anytime soon.

Besides that, LOTS of lower back pain, gas pain, abdominal pain. Also, my periods, though much lighter, last FOREVER...10 or more days, and they come whenever they choose, there is no rhyme or reason.

Anyone else feeling extremely tired?? It was so painful to have put in, and I was so looking forward to lighter periods (mine were terribly heavy before) that I'm hesitant to take it out and just keep hoping my side effects go away. Ugh.

I have been on yasmin for about 14 months. the first 6-9 months were great. Now i have terrible pains "inside" it feels like a knife stabbing with no rhyme or reasin for when they occur. OB says its adhesions..which I have had before...but not like this. Last month I bled 1 week after my period and bleed for 2 weeks. Went to the OB she said its just a side effect. Well I am tired, sore breasts, stomach pains, no sex drive. My husband is so upset he thinks its him. We argued terribly. Well I went back to OB yesterday becuase I was still bleeding. She did an exam, and an ultrasound. No looks for cancer, no endometriosis. She said that the birth control cause cells that are normally in the uterus to grow outside on my cervix and they were bleeding. She recommended that I come off BC and see if the bleeding stops. If it doesnt then I have to go back in Jan for her to cauterize my cervix ( essentially burning off those cells) which I am not too keen on. Please let me know if you hav these side effect. I can give u my home email address

In January I was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and temporal arteritis (giant cell arteritis). I was put on 60 mg prednisone and an array of other meds to help with pain, inflammation, water retention, and stomach problems from everything. I've lost some vision from the TA. I've experienced the weight gain, the moon face, stomach problems, depression, fatigue, muscle weakness, lack of memory and concentration, and generally feel miserable. The brain fog is awful! I don't trust myself doing much of anything these days!

When I was first put on the prednisone it completely took away all my TA and PMR symptoms. I could walk and get up and down again, didn't have the headaches, and didn't hurt all over.
My doctor tried to taper my dosage about 6 weeks ago and all my symptoms returned and increased as I went down on the prednisone. He upped me back to 60. That time the symptoms didn't go away. They lessened but were still there.

He's trying to taper again, and I'm down to 30 mg now and feel worse and worse. My sed rate has been normal, so the doctor thinks it's from the prednisone. Does it mimic all the TA and PMR symptoms? I also am having a lot of hand and feet cramping.

Does anyone else have these two illnesses? I would be interested in your experience. I want off these meds! Anyone found an alternative approach that's helped?

God bless!
