I am literally in tears after reading all of this, I'm beginning to think that Mirena ruined my life and I didn't even know it.
I stumbled upon this site while searching for Mirena side effects related to periods. I had mine inserted in October 2007, at my 6 week checkup after my daughter was born. I had severe cramping and irregular periods for about 3 months, but after that, my periods have been completely regular and pretty much the same as they had always been before my pregnancy and Mirena. But, just now, I've started my period 2 weeks early and was slightly curious if it may have anything to do with the Mirena. Apparently, it may. And now I see that having an early period is the least of my worries.
I've been experiencing so many of these side effects without even realizing they were side effects! I had put everything off on stress, disliking my job, then losing my job, the fact that "pregnancy changed me," and numerous other things. Now I feel sort of stupid for not even thinking that it could be Mirena.
I had my daughter in August 2007, at 23 years old. Mirena was put in during October of the same year. I was overwhelmed with motherhood and suffered from post-partom depression and severe anxiety attacks. I thought that this was what was causing my complete lack of sex drive.
Seriously, the thought of sex physically made me ill. And on the rare occasion that I did give in and have sex with my husband, it was so painful that I would cry. For a long time I thought that it was just because my body was not finished healing after giving birth. I had been told by several people that it isn't uncommon for sex to hurt for up to a year after giving birth. A year passed, and it still hurt. Now it's been almost 2, and it still hurts. I've probably had sex a total of about 10 times since I started Mirena. It's been 21 months.
On top of this, I've also had serious rage issues. I fly off the handle over the smallest things. For the longest time, this rage was directed mainly at my husband. Everything he did was wrong, hurtful, stupid, or just plain irritating. I'm even getting angry right now, just thinking about him. I left my husband 5 months ago, because I simply could not stand him anymore. But when someone asks me why we're getting a divorce, I really can't come up with a good reason. Sure, he made some mistakes, and did some stupid things (don't all men?), but he never really did anything terrible or life altering. He was always faithful to me, was generally a good husband, and loved me unconditionally. So why can't I stand him? Why don't I love him anymore? I can't logically explain it.
So now that I don't have him around anymore to be angry at all the time, I'm starting to direct my anger at my daughter. She'll be 2 in August, and has started that "terrible 2's" phase. I'm very quick to just completely blow up and yell at her for the littlest things. I've been starting to think that I'm just not cut out to be a parent. I love her with all of my heart but I have no patience with her at all. If this rage issue is, in fact, caused by the Mirena, I have to admit that I'll be somewhat relieved.
Other than anger, I'm pretty much emotionally dead. I've cried ONE time since my husband and I split up (well two now, since reading all of your posts actually made me cry). I'm jobless, husbandless, living with my mother, and pretty much have absolutely nothing going well for me in my life right now... and I have not cried. I don't even feel very sad. There has seriously got to be something wrong there.
I'm constantly tired, and if given the chance, will sleep 14-16 hours at a time. I don't feel like doing anything. I thought this might be signs of depression... but again, I don't feel sad. I can't keep up with my daughter. She's so full of energy and I often have to get help from my Mother. I'm 25 years old and I'm so tired I have to get help from a 48 year old woman!
I get headaches almost daily. Migraines weekly. I've got severe anxiety about just about everything. I freak out about driving, being around groups of people, anything new, anything fairly difficult, or anytime my daughter is with a sitter or relative. Even when my husband has her, and he is a wonderful father, and very responsible with her. If I had insurance, I would probably already be on anxiety medication.
I've started getting acne, which I never ever had. Not even as a teen. Now I get those really deep pimples that never come up to the surface, and they ache very badly.
I haven't had a lot of the physical side effects that have been talked about here. No weight gain or loss (120 lbs pre-pregnancy, 145 lbs at 9 months, 125 lbs now). No hair loss. No bloating. No breast swelling/soreness. Normal periods until just now. No pains or flutters or anything. Really the only physical symptoms I've had are the headaches, acne, and tiredness (all of which I attributed to stress) and the pain during sex.
Do you ladies think that my symptoms are all the cause of Mirena? Does my story seem to fit the bill? It seems to all fit, to me. But maybe I'm just looking too hard for an answer. Please give me your opinions! I need to decide if I should start saving up some money to get this thing taken out of me!

MAY 29th, i had a heart cath done. while on the table i had 5-7 sec MI.
was put in MICU, rest of that day and night. moved to heart ward, was put on 24 hour telemetry for 2 days. was started on LIPITOR. had never taken it prior to then.
as of April 8th, i had made a radical diet change, from a lacto/ovo vegetarian, to a "south beach"/modified Atkins NO CARB DIET.
in the period from apr 8th to may 29th, i had dropped 16 pound. i have a bad back, and with the added pounds i packed on, made walking a choir.
with the weight loss, i was walking a lot better. THEN May 29th, LIPITOR was added ............and within 2 weeks, i was having leg weakness, when standing i would feel like my legs couldn't hold me up, walking was now harder then when i had the extra 16 pounds.
sooooo....as of June 14th, I STOPPED TAKING IT!!!!! within days i felt more energetic, and could work a few hours a day. had an appointment with cardiologist June 19th, told him of problems, and that i had stopped taking lipitor. he agreed with me, said to stay on the diet, exercise more, and give it another 6 weeks and then we will check progress.
he did not prescribe any replacement for the LIPITOR. but i have been herbal and homeopathic savvy for a long time so i will continue the OMEGA-3 fish oil, 4 capsules a day, and 4 GARLIC a day.
i mihgt have to add some MILK THISTLE for the liver, if the LIPITOR did any damage.
my diet change if anyone is interested is, chicken, turkey, fish for meats, no hamburgers, or steaks or pork ribs. i STILL do a ton of
VEGGIES, mostly COMPLEX CARBS, lettuce, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, cukes, zukes, summer squash, and have found a wonderful substitute for PASTA, and its SPAGHETTI SQUASH. split it, microwave 10 min, let stand for 5 min, then take a fork and strip out the meat of the squash, cover with PASTA SAUCE as you would make for PASTA. awesome.

TO ALL
MY SON LOGAN IS SIX NOW AND JUST FINISHED KINDERGARTEN TODAY.
WHEN HE STARTED KINDERGARTEN HE WAS ON SINGULAIR FOR 4 YEARS. HE HAD ALL TH ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS. TUMMY ACHES, CONSTIPATED, DIARRHEA, LEG CRAMPS TO POINT OF NOT WANTING TO WALK, BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS, HATED EVERYONE, NIGHTMARES, SEES GHOSTS, CRIED OFTEN.
ANYTHING SOUND FAMILIAR. HIS MOTHER THOUGHT HE HAD ADHD OR ASPERGERS AND PEDIATRICIAN AGREED WITH HER.
SOMEBODY THAT I THINK IS SPECIAL FOR ONE WAY OR ANOTHER KICKED ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO INVESTIGATE SINGULAIR IN EVERY ASPECT.
FIRST WEEK OF GARTEN I HAD TO HAVE A CONFERENCE WITH COUNSELOR AND THREE TEACHERS AND HIS MOTHER.
I LET THEM TALK AND EXPLAIN THEIR THOUGHTS ABOUT LOGANS PROBLEMS. I THEN DROPPED A BIG PACKET OF PAPERS ON TABLE ABOUT SINGULAIR AND ZYRTEC. THEY WERE VERY VERY SURPRISED THAT I PRODUCED THIS INFO.
THAT DAY HIS MOTHER AGREED TO TAKE HIM OFF SINGULAIR. IT TOOK ABOUT 6 MONTHS FOR LOGANS ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS TO SUBSIDE. HE NOW ONLY TAKES ZYRTEC AND IS GROWING SO FAST.
SO PROUD OF THE LITTLE TURD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IM NO DOC BUT HOW DID KIDS AND ADULTS SURVIVE ALLERGIES IN THE OLD DAYS?
GIVE IT TIME LET THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEMS CATCH UP. KIDS DO GET SICK. DO YOUR KIDS A FAVOR AND INVESTIGATE THE DRUGS DOCTORS PRESCRIBE THEM. SOME HELP BUT SOME HURT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS ALL!!

Wow! I must be the latest in a long line of Lipitor users and apparently pain sufferers. I have been on Lipitor for over a year. I am 56 years old, active and healthy (thank God). Around November 2008, I noticed a "twinge" in my left hip while sleeping. This has gotten progressively worse over the months and I thought it was due to arthritis (which runs in my family). But after reading these blogs, I am not so sure. If anyone has anything definitive regarding this, ie: tests, studies, etc., I would really appreciate a point in the right direction for more information. I was thinking (until today) that I was headed for hip surgery or something equally drastic. Now that I have a clue that it may be the Lipitor, I want to investigate further and then, if necessary, change to another medication that won't break me down like this. My heart goes out to anyone that has suffered through hip pain. It is a miserable, painful condition that saps your energy and your desire to even move sometimes. I appreciate any help you can offer. God bless all of you. - L. B. ******

Just read an FDA article out today, I believe. The FDA is looking to publish quarterly a list of "potential problem drugs". That is fantastic! But where will this information be posted, and how often should a medical prescriber visit and hunt for such information?
I still maintain every medical professional with the appropriate credentials to prescribe any medication should be required to register with an email address with a database within the FDA to immediately communicate this new-found quarterly list, as well as any investigations launched (as with Merck/Singulair). Wow - what a concept.
I suppose I should be somewhat more optimistic with a slight move in the right direction - but I know with all my heart neither my daughter's pediatrician, nor my personal intern will receive, nor be aware, of any of the quarterly "lists".
Will keep trying to get a change within the FDA.

4 months ago I was diagnosed with Statin induced Myopathy. I researched on the topic of statins and the dangerous side effects through the net and corresponded with some caring people with medical backgrounds, whom were very helpful and supportive. They have pointed me in the right direction for the information I was seeking, and gave me encouragement not to give up! EDUCATE YOURSELF ON STATINS FIRST, THEN TALK TO YOUR DR.
For anyone interested, I have a list of places to google that you may find helpful. To mention a few...
-Adverse drug reaction monitoring
-Investigate statins Petition signatures-Go Petition
-WHO The safety of medicines
-Statins warning out
-Drug induced and toxic myopathies ( www.pubmed.gov)
-Statins.com
-FindArticles-Evaluation of the patient with muscle weakness
-Duane Graveline M.D. (or) Spacedoc
-RateMDS.com
I consider myself very fortunate. I'm able to walk again. The muscle pain and weakness has subsided but not completely gone. I believe at the rate that I'm improving I should be back to my old'self by the time summer rolls around. Oh yeah, and I fired my Doctor. I value my life!

Cure for side effects? CoQ 10 helped me it could help you to. I don't think the private mail on this site works. You can contact me: seekers999@hotmaildotcom if you're a real person you know what to do with the"dot"... "." But nobody needs me, do the research yourself! checkout coq-10 and how lipitor and other statin drugs deplete your body of it causing muscle atrophy. (see my previous post for link)
I don't recommend websites or charge (even though I'm on social security disability w/kids and financially challanged ;-) I;m just trying to help people get better by pointing them in the right direction.
I was crippled up on crutches! Worst pain in my life! Couldn't even get to the bathroom 15' away WITH THE CRUTCHES!! If felt like muscle was tearing with each step, within a week the pain was gone!! The mental fog was gone also and I quit taking the Prozac, but this might have been also due to the Acetyl-L Carnititne.(500mg 3X a day)
I just know that stopping the lipitor didn't stop the pain and confusion!
God Bless all as they try and work their way through these terrible side effects! Remember I had to increase the coq 10 to 900mg a day before I saw benefits on the 3rd day.... There is hope! I hope it works for you!

I have been using Yasmin for nearly 3 months now. I switched from Diane to Yasmin because one of my friends advised it. I was actually quite happy with my old pill Diane but nevertheless I thought Yasmin would be better. Oh and she also mentioned that makes your breast grow!!!
The first month of taken Yasmin I had really bad headaches almost everyday but like a subborn cow I kept on taking it. Into the next month I have had a really bad skin rash. Its not really ichy but its red tiny little dots all over my arms, legs and belly/hip area. I am still continpating whether Yasmin is the reason for these side effects but after reading all of these post I now think it is possible that Yasmin is the reason. If anyone out there has had the same problem or can advise me in the right direction please reply to me
Concerned and unhappy Yasmin user

Levaquin cured my pneumonia but I'm now having trouble with my knees and shoulders. I can hardly bear my weight and am having trouble performing simple tasks such as reaching to answer the phone. Has anyone else suffered this way? Otherwise I feel well. I discontinued using Levequin on my doctor’s advice but when I explained my symptoms was told this was not a problem associated with Levaquin. I wonder. I'm 60 years old, very active and hope this problem is only temporary. I've got life to live!!!!

Give it some time, your hormones need to adjust.
When we take synthetic hormones we shut off our body producing hormones which take their place and then when we go off the pill the faucet has to turn back on in our bodies and replace the synthetics, this takes some time usually they say 2-3 months but it seems with yasmin it can take longer depending on the person. The hardest thing is patience. Just hang in there, eat well (organic seems best) get plenty of sleep, and take good care of yourself right now. K. Best wishes BitterRN

Me again, sorry about the rushed answer, I wanted to write more but didnt have time. So yeah, I think your levels have been trying to come up, but may have for some reason dropped- Have you been exercising more since that heavy period, or more stressed out? The body will use more testosterone during these times (to recover your muscles with exercise.) to support the body with stress. This would have caused a decline perhaps in the reserves of testosterone you may have built up then. (This is just a theory based on what I have read and talked with my doctors and experienced myself Silke, I am not trying to diagnose you okay? Im just trying to point you in the right direction for medical care) So anyway, if you had a decline then that may explain the spotting the next two months, especially with the virus, the drop in testosterone may have caused the lowered immune system allowing you to catch the virus and then your body is really going to have trouble fighting it caused it is already in an unbalanced state. Even though it seems your body was starting to recover and you were menstruating though Silke 1 year and a half seems a long time for this recovery (though I think it may have to due with the amount of time you were on the yasmin as well) but when I read that your periods returned I was so happy for you but then in the next post you wrote the next month you had mentioned just spotting and that is what prompted me to see how you were now because I had a feeling that it may not have fully returned as it had the previous month (the one with the heavy bleeding) did it seem normal? If you had continued to have regular bleeding the next two cycles and continued to feel better than I would have thought oh good her hormones are balancing out, but when you said that you had only spotting AND that you were starting to feel bad again, I think that maybe your body is trying to fight an uphill battle and It cannot quite seem to fill it up to the reserves that it needs to be at. In other words you cannot make testosterone as fast as your body is demanding it leaving you on empty or quite near it . Do you understand where I am coming from? This is why I think you should consider getting your hormones tested, but only from a doctor who understands hormones particularly bioidentitical hormones(natural hormones.) That is why I gave you the name of the doctor in Spain, he specializes in this kind of therapy, but more importantly he can test your hormones and read them correctly. I tried to google doctors in germany who specialize in bioidentical hormones and I could not find anything which suprises me because I read an article that they started practicing this therapy first in europe in 1935! So maybe you could find someone. I understand what you mean about going to another doctor for useless information (I went through 3) and spent lots of wasted money! Its aggravating I know.
Please, I hope you do not think that I am being pushy and please remember it is your health and your body and you know what is best for it. I am curious to see what will happen on the first of Nov. as well, maybe your menses will return fully and you will start feeling better again. I hope so Silke, I really do.
Also I had a few more ?'s if you dont mind, how is your memory/concentration as compared to before? How about your sleep?Any trouble? Do you feel aged just overall?
One more thing, I wanted to give the website of that Dr and procedure (which Im not saying you need) it just has interesting info. on it. Its Sottopelletherapy.com
Ok I better go. Volume 10 is complete!!! :)
Take care Silke

Hey Sherry! :)
Nice to hear from you again. Yesterday I was thinking about you and wondering, how you might be doing with your pregnancy. I hope everything is fine!?
Well, the weight didn't get off yet but I'm feeling a slight change since about 2 weeks. The gaining had already stopped about 2 months ago. That's from where I everyday went up and down about 2 kg (I think it's 4 lbs). But at the moment it looks as if the weight finally starts do go down!! I didn't want to post this here, yet, because I'm not sure, if it goes on like this or if it's just a little break for me. But I'm writing down my weight every 10 days in a book since september 2005. And looking at my notices over the last few weeks it has really changed into the right direction (down!! :)). So I'm hoping and praying, that it will go on like this and perhaps in summer this year I might wear some of my "smaller" clothes again!! :)
And not to forget: As I didn't eat tons of food to go up 20 kg I now don't eat less than before or doing more exercising than before (well, I'm still not fit enough to do that and my band is doing another "carneval"-tour without me at the moment....). So I think there might finally be a proof for the fact, that this weight gain was all just hormonal!! I feel really delighted at the moment... Let's hope it will stay that way!!
Well, would be so nice to hear from you again and how you're doing. All the best and a big hug to you!!

I am new to this site and thank God I found it. Now I don't feel like I am alone anymore. I have been taking Yasmin for 2 1/2 years now and dealing with this "new self". I stopped taking Yasmin 2 days ago (before I found this site) and last night I woke up to a pool of blood in my bed. I stopped taking Yasim in the middle of the pack because I was having severe headaches and had practically ruled out everything except my birth control. So, once I saw the blood, I was scared - but I assumed it was my 2nd period since I stopped in the middle of the pack. Did anyone have this happen to them when they stopped Yasmin???
My side effects have pretty much been the same as everyone else's - severe headaches, depression, not feeling like I am worth very much, I haven't been able to keep focused, very low sex drive, bitchy, bitchy, bitchy - and I could go on. It has been a terrible 2 1/2 years and I can't believe it has taken me this long to figure out what was wrong with me. I am dumbfounded... But I am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel - as long as these symptoms go away.
Has there not been any lawsuits or action with Yasmin to make other women aware of what this can do to them? I am willing to make an effort if someone could lead me in the right direction. Yasmin is scary and has terrible side effects. No one should have to go through what we all have been through.
Please reply and I will keep you updated on my progress.

Whoa, am I glad I found this forum! I thought I was goin' nuts!
Let me preface this by saying I have never, NEVER had heartburn in my life. Until I started Advair.
I'm an asthmatic and have used Albuterol for years. It sometimes has gotten to the point where I've had to use it several times a day. That's when my doctor recommended Advair. Right off the bat, I could breathe easier (with Advair 250), and I thought I'd found my wonder drug. A couple weeks later I developed a bad case of heartburn with a sore throat. I was downing Tums like crazy. I thought it might have something to do with the Advair, so I went off it and saw my doctor. She dismissed the notion that Advair was the culprit, and told me to lay off the caffeine, tomato products, onions, etc. And to sleep in an inclined position. She also prescribed Protonix. So I went back on Advair and I was actually feeling better a couple weeks later when I had my follow-up appointment. The heartburn hadn't gone away completely, but it wasn't as bad. Well, after the follow-up, the heartburn came back with a vengeance. It got so bad that death would have been welcome. At that point I really had a strong suspicion that Advair had something to do with it. I stopped Advair a week and a half ago and went to see the doctor today. I finally convinced her that Advair could be the problem. Then she asked if I rinsed my mouth out when I used it. I admitted to her that I had not. She said that swallowing the residue instead of rinsing it could cause the heartburn. In any case, I swayed her in the right direction. I'm seeing a GI specialist next week and I'm gonna specifically tell him about Advair and the many posts on this message board. By the way, since stopping Advair a week and a half ago I still have the heartburn, but it's not as bad. It's not good, but at least I don't want to die. I wish I'd never heard about that stuff. If you've had a similar experience, let me know! =)

I was put on Lipitor because of a one time spike in my Trigliceride. It was only 10mg for three weeks. Within a week my ankles were stiff and my feet heavy. I had cramps/pain in the legs. Within a couple of weeks, I had pain in all my joints and muscles, especially my legs. It has now been a year, and I've have been told that if I don't stop the process, I may not make it. All of my muscles have atrophied to the point that I can hardly walk. My spine is no longer being supported my my muscles so I have three torn disks. No one will address that problem because the muscles are not strong enough to undergo even the most minor procedure. In addition, my hips have seperated as though I had been in an accident. The only accident was taking Lipitor. I am desperate to find some help. Time is running out. I am already on CoQ10 and Fish Oil. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would greatly be appreciated. I have been to California with no help. Please, please, please. I will do whatever necessary to stop this horrific illness. It is beyond my imagination how they can get away with passing these drugs out like candy. Help, Dianne

Hi,
-- By sct871083 | Reply | (2) replies | Private Message meI am just looking for a web site that can help me with Levaquin side effects.
I had some of the listed side effects however within 4 days of starting the medication my taste and smell was totally gone. That was in Feb. 09, its now Sept.09 and i got back some smell and taste back but nothing like I
used to. In fact a lot of things taste different than they used to. Can
anybody help or point me in the right direction?
