Hi,
I was on intravenus yutopa to stop labour at 31/32 weeks, in 1995. I had severe adverse reactions at the time my heart beat was racing,I began to have what appeared to be a fit, my eyes rolled to the back of my head and my whole body shook. The midwife immediately took yhe drip from my arm and told my husband that I could have had a cardiac arrest. I recovered and labour was posponed.
My daughter however was born blind with retardation of the milination of the nerves between eye and brain. At 11/12 weeks she started to see. We were told that it was unlikly to be the Yutopa.
Now 10 my daughter is dyslexic, has some social difficalties and we have been advised to have her refered for other problems of an autistic nature.
In 1997 I had another daughter. During labour I was given Salbutamol (apparently same as Yutopa) at 30/31 weeks to delay labour. Again I had same reaction. This daughter was also born blind. Is also dyslexic but as yet appears to have no further problems.
Any thoughts?

I have been using Seretide (Advair) for around 6 months and like a lot of you thought the drug was wonderful with how it was controlling my Asthma. I am usually a fit and well person but over the last couple of weeks have been feeling so tired and lethargic, even the smallest task wiping me out. I thought nothing of it really, just stresses and strains of modern life. Then I started to get frequent palpitations and every time I fell asleep my heart would miss a beat and I would wake up. This would last a couple of hours and obviously over a matter of weeks I was getting more and more exhausted. I talked to my Doctor and she said that Seretide could cause abnormal heart rythyms, and along with the frequent oral thrush and dry mouth I have decided to give up on Seretide, hope it hasn't done any long term damage and resolve to using my salbutamol more often. It was great to find this site and discover that these side effects are not uncommon amongst others.

Mistake in entry saying 'occaisional use of Salmeterol reliever'- potentially fatal to use Salmeterol this way- meant to say ' salBUTAmol reliever'. Xinafoate and steroid combination far worse than the asthma on its own.

I am really happy to have discovered this site. I got a bit of a fright today with my 4 yo who has been quite aggressive towards his younger siblings, hyperactive, non responsive to time outs etc. He ran out impulsively today in front of a car coming home from school. it was a near miss. He has been on Singulair for afew days only. He had been on Singulair for a time previously and similar out of character behaviour was noted. We had suspected inhaled salbutamol was causing him to be a bit hyper, but Singulair the effects were multiples of it. I was wondering if we were imagining these side effects but I see and identify with a lot that has been said on the board so far. I will not give my son singulair again. Thanks again.
