I love prednisone, at least so far. I have a rash that occurs only on the back of my upper arms and shoulder blades in the deep of winter...then reoccurs EVERY SUMMER as soon as I get in the pool. In summer though, it's all over my arms, my hands, my thighs and my upper back, even my neck a bit. It starts out as a medium tingle (like pins on my skin), lots of itching..which scratching definitely makes things worse. I apply sunscreen 70 and no help. I use anti itch cream which helps to keep me from scratching...but I can't bathe in it! If I don't scratch, the little bumps are still there, but they of course get red when I scratch.
I tried meds for hot tub foliculitis...no help. I start the prednisone and VOILA! It's gone within a day or two..or quickly disappearing. Two days after the last pill, I get in the pool..and the itching starts.
I have never noticed trouble with breathing or any kind of anger / rage issues...I do wonder if those are other folks symptoms of something else. I would really look into that before blaming prednisone and not addressing the real issue.
I have been on prednisone (tapering from 5 tabs a day to one over time) and it's the ONLY thing that helps with this rash and it's cleared the rash one hundred percent of the time. LOVE prednisone, came here to see if I could be on it all summer. I have three kids, no babysitter and my pool is my only true pleasure....I live for it all year as I hate winter and fall...I'm a summer girl!

I believe that my friable cervix is from the hormones so close to my cervix that are constantly being released from my NuvaRing. All tests for STDs and abnormalities came back clear. Other than that, I do not have any noticeable side effects.

My doctor told me he thought I would be a good candidate for mirena because have had very heavy periods and extreme pain after my tubal ligation. He inserted it in feb 09. the last time my husband and i had sex, it left a scratch on the head of his penis. you can actually see where it cut through the skin. i am going to the doctor to have it taken out this afternoon, so we will see what follow up symptoms i have. I have been moody, tired, depressed, no energy, gaining weight for no reason.

I am so glad I found this site!! I think I've found the culprit of my rashes/welts. It started about 2 or 3 days after starting 100 mg of the generic of Wellbutrin SR but I had taken it before without any side effects (I had taken the brand name med) so I didn't think it would be this. It started with massive itching on the back of my head which turned into welts that ran down my neck. I also had swollen lymph nodes on the back and sides of my neck. Then wherever I itched, I would develop hives and the scratch mark would show up about 2 minutes later and be raised. I still have this problem and I have been taking Wellbutrin SR for about 3-4 weeks. I am so disappointed because it was working for me. I was taking 10 mg of Lexapro but the sexual side effects (or lack thereof) prompted me to ask for an alternative. He prescribed this alongside Lexapro. Even though you're supposed to do what your doctor says, I refuse to add another pharmaceutical to my list of meds so I stopped the Lexapro and started the Wellbutrin (after weening off of Lexapro of course). Anyway, the libido is back but it doesn't work too well if you're itching all over!

I've been taking Wellbutrin XL for almost a year the highest dose you can take which is 450 mg. When I first started taking it, the side effects were horrible, first with the memory loss, nausea etc. A few months into the perscription I could notice a change, but as time went on I began to feel not so good anymore. I started getting bad twitches right before I was almost asleep. They became so bad that I would wake myself up because my body would jerk so bad. The ringing of the ears had occurred along with an appetite increase. I felt that it stopped working within the last couple months. There is no point to be on a medication that is not working. Also suffering hair loss and my hair is blond and fine to begin with. I just find it alarming that so many people who are taking this have horrible side effects from it. Side effects are suppose to subside overtime, but not in this case. Besides I was also taking Yasmin which is a whole different story because it could of been causing the anxiety that led to me to have to take this medication. So I'm stopping everything because I feel my body is telling me to let be it free of meds. I strongly believe in medications, but not when one med causes a sympton that leads to another med that causes other problems. Like everyone has been saying listen to your body and don't ignore it. I'm tired of being sick and tired! A medicine that is suppose to make you feel better is only making me feel worse. I'm just going to start from scratch again and see what happens perhaps I never really needed anything at all which upsets me. Since the time I began Yasmin up until The Wellbutrin Xl, I've been living quite the miserable life. I don't want anyone to have to go through this ever. I lost out on alot of time with my daughter and I can't get that back. A lesson to be learned perhaps, study up on meds before taking them or combining them with others, we are fortunate enough to have the technology to do so. So think about how you're feeling and whats going on with your bodies. GOD BLESS!

My mother was given this drug, Lisinopril, because the doctor decided she had high blood pressure after she went in for a bladder infection (she's had these all her life, every now & then). The doctor also prescribed Nitrofur (please avoid THAT one like the plague - she was on the couch for a week in stomach agony). We didn't put 2 and 2 together on what was really going on until yesterday. She was on Lisinpril for 3 months and every 2-3 weeks had an episode of extreme stomach spasms, bloating and fatigue. These episodes have lasted 3-5 days each, keeping her on the couch in agony. I researched the internet and found out that Lisinopril is made from SNAKE VENOM, can you believe? Turns out lots of people have reactions from this, including coughing. There was one woman who had the exact same things as my mom and wouldn't you know it, stopped using Lisinopril and the episodes went away. Turns out this is an allergic reaction, something they say is rare, BUT I think it depends how long you take it and how sensitive you are. So my mom immediately stopped taking it. What's happening inside is something they call gastrointestinal angioedema (in layman's terms, internal hives). If you experience coughing, the hives are in your throat. If you experience the stomach pains, the hives are all in your intestinal tract and very possible more areas internally. So then I looked up and found an excerpt from "One Earth Herbal Sourcebook" on Google and found the author had experienced something similar, using ayervedic (indian) herbs to fix the problem. I couldn't find where to buy ayervedic herbs, calling Whole Foods Market with no success. Well, all over the world there are healing herbs that do similar things. So I did find 2 that would work. Marshmallow (the herb, not the campfire kind) will help relieve swelling internally. There is another herb called Goldenseal (don't use it if you have very high blood pressure as it can cause a spike) that has antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Anyway, now you know what is going on inside - hives you can't see from snake venom. Take that to the doctors and see what they say. Maybe your just better off like we are to research yourself and find a natural answer from nature. I hope this can help others avoid the hell we've been through.

Hi again ....I went to see my G.P regarding my symptoms posted here 18th Jan. He has ordered blood tests for kidney, liver, thyroid function, blood sugar levels and a full blood count....he doesn't feel that the symptoms I have are attributed to the lisinopril therefore I am back on this drug again!! I am not so sure and I will wait to see if the blood tests reveal any problems. If not I intend to carry on like this for another 3 months and then I will approach my Doctor again if I am still experiencing the same problems and suggest that we try an alternative BP drug! In the meantime I found that the itching had abated after not taking the lisinopril I guess I am going to be a scratch bag again!! Thanks Jill xx

I came across this site purely by entering "swollen red foot and kidney pain" into my search engine, imagine my shock when up came a site listing kidney pain and lisinopril!! I have been taking lisinopril for about 7 months now and as I had no adverse side effects in the first week carried on popping my "little lifesaver" no questions asked. Over the last 3 months I have experienced kidney pain to the extent that I was beginning to think I would pass a kidney stone! dry persistent cough, sleeplessness which means I am up at all hours throughout the night and catnapping (when I can) during the day, nausea ,stomach pain and headache!! The swollen foot I don't think I can attribute to the lisinopril....but who knows? I appreciate that in medicine we use various "poisons" as cures and remedies for illness, but when I read of the side effects that so many people are experiencing and am able to see a definite link to the ones I am experiencing then I start to wonder ....the good thing is that this drug and I take 10mg daily has reduced my B.P to a rather good level.....but I have decided to stop taking it for a few days to see whether my symptoms stop and have made an appointment to discuss this treatment with my G.P as a matter of urgency!! Thanks...Jill xx Oh almost forgot to add the incessant itching as well!!

I was on 1000mg per day 500 in the morning and 500 at night. I had one or two episodes of flushing and if it was not for this site I would have gone to the Emergency Room because the burning of my skin was so severe that I was in a panic. I found this site and it calmed me a bit. After the flushing comes the itching. For me it is on the inside of the legs starting on the ankles and then the toes and then it moves slowly up the legs and sometimes hits the thighs. Sometimes it hits the underside of my upper arm. This was mild and tolerable and went away in a couple of days.
Now I have been moved to 2000mg per day and the flushing is under control, but the itching has gone out of control. I cannot deal with the itching. I sit in business meetings and want to scream. I find myself at my desk with my shoes and socks off rubbing my feet and ankles because it is intolerable. I have broken the skin many times and bleed from the scratching. I am intelligent enough to know not to scratch, but sometimes it just gets the better of me.
I have no idea what triggers this because I can count on it lasting three to four days and then it goes away again.

I have taken Lisinopril since 2001 because of high blood pr. caused by Mitral valve prolapse. From the beginning it made me a little sleepy when I drive to work in the morning. I take 20mm when I have breakfast when I get up.
I now notice my hands hurt until I have worked for a while. I work 7 days a week as a mechanic due to low income. Whenever I get a small cut or scratch now I bleed like crazy.
I do ballroom dancing once a week and my arms & chest hurt when I go too hard or run. I have always been short of breath since 10 years old. I'm 70 now.
I would not be afraid to try it as it has helped me. Just pay attention to the affects it may have on you. When I stop taking it I get better but my BP goes up. It really doesn't bother me much. A friend takes it with no side affects.

Since posting my side effects with the Mirena a lil' while ago! I've read all of Oct. 07 entries of side effects and I am realizing that i have more... I am dealing with a strange discharge, heavier hair loss (since I was already having it postpartum), weight gain & bloating, and a downward spiral on my already improved postpartum depression.
I will be having this THING removed tomorrow... I already spoke to my Dr. over the weekend, who told me that I was obviously having a severe reaction to the chemicals in the Mirena... I feel like my skin is going to come off! If i don't scratch it off, first!!!
I feel there's a MAJOR Big Pharm/Medical Industry cover up going on... And not just with the Mirena, but with Most MEDS... EVERYBODY, Beware of PHARMACEUTICALS...!!!

I
I am currently taking a 40mg lipotor. I have devloped chronic hives mosttly on my arms and thighs. The itchng is so bad that I scratch these welts in my sleep. I have been on Plavix 75 mg since my first cardio-chatherization which has made my blood so thin that I actually bleed when I scratch. I'm now in a itch and scratch cycle that keeps me from sleeping. My doctor originally started me on 10 mg. This was before I started having clogged coronary arteries'. I am 74 years old. I have just had my second bypass operation. I started on lipitor 10 mg about eight years ago. I developed a hive like welt in my groin area. This welt or hive itched so bad that I damaged the skin. I went to a dermatoligist and the only answer he had after a biopsy was that it was probably Lichon Planus. I had a triple pass July 18 2007. That is when my doctor increased my lipitor dosage to 40 mg. He had increased it to 20 mg several years. I finally realized that it may be the 40 mg dose that causes me to wake about three hours later with Hives and itching that is so bad that even scratching doesen't relieve the itch.
I have seen two dermotoligsts. They can find nothing that I am allergic to. This condition has gotten progressivly worse over the last three years. I am taking Zanix and Benedryl I have eliminated all of my other medicines as the cause.
The only thing I could see as a possible cause is acute anxiety. After seeing my family doctor he prescribed the Zanix.
My last hope for relief is to get off Lipitor. I stopped taking it two days ago
and I already see a change in this chronic hive condition; I am assuming that it may take a while to see if I have solved my problem.
Incidently I started takng Zocor about three years ago instead of the Lipitor and I had such severe neck and shoulder pain that it was obvious Zocor was the cause.
zocor was the cause

I'm starting to see small itchy patches of skin in random places on my arms, and even above my eye. I have only taken lamictal since Feb. and on a low dose i experienced no problems it is the first medication that has ever worked for me, I'm Bi-Polar II. Once they stepped me up to 200 mg i got really sick and started to develope the rash...Does that mean i have to stop taking it? I'm really confused.

I have been on Toprol 50mg for a few years and thought I had no problems. However 2 years ago I had the lap band surgery and one year later had it removed...I LOST NOTHING. After Dr.s telling me I was cheating and that was the reason, I see all these posting. Further, the medication was just uped to 100mg and ever since I have been itching like you would not believe. The Dr wants me to go to an allergist as he sees no reason for the itching. I now see it to be a rare side affect. I scratch so much I bring up blood! I think I need to have another discussion with my Dr.

I take my Niaspan at bedtime, having taken an 81 mg. asprin tablet about a half hour prior. I stil will awaken sometimes about 4-5 hours later and, well, if you're googling niacin flush, you know the rest. Then, because I HAVE to scratch, even though it's not exactly an itch, my skin then feels raw. After about a half hour I will typically get up and walk to the kitchen on the cold tile floors in bare feet and drink something cold - just a few sips and get some damp paper towels to blot whatever burns the most. This seems to help some. At least, I usually then go to sleep, but maybe after a half hour to 45 minutes, the flush was about to remediate itself anyway. Who knows!

severe itching in calves taking niaspan at the 1500mg per day level for a month. wake at night with severe itch in calves. scratching gives some psychological relief - generally in a poor control situation when awakening at 3am - little control - seem to scratch one time and it produces little relief - frustration elevates the amount of the scratching. Relief eventually comes. Have stopped taking this drug - will see dr. in 4 days to determine next course of action. Flushing never appeared as a problem - severe heart throbbing at times.
