I've posted here before right after I removed my mirena. Well it's been 27 days since I've had it out. At first I felt great. I had a period two days after I removed it. That period lasted a week long. Right after my period I CRASHED MAJORLY!!!! I had severe depression, severe anxiety and really bad leg and joint pain. All of that lasted about a little over a week. I got put on clonazapam and 20 mg. of celexa. So far I'm doing pretty good. I still get a little leg and joint pain, but not as bad and it doesn't last as long. I feel 90 % better and am expecting my second period on the 9th. I really hope I don't crash again. It was awful!! While on the mirena I had high blood pressure, fast heart rate, low grade fever, joint and leg pain, anxiety and depression, bloating like I was 4-5 months pregnant, nausea, heartburn, headaches, body aches (like I was sick), carpul tunnel syndrome (which I only get when i'm pregnant just like the heartburn) and more! Everything went down or completely away within a couple of weeks of having it removed. All except my heart rate. I am on a low dose of beta blockers to keep my heart rate from going over 100. Just like many of you I have been tested for many things like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and so on. i have also been suspected of having hyperthyroidism, but with negative results from blood work. We are experiencing a major hormonal imbalance from this mirena. I just hope and pray our dr.'s will do their research and realize we are all right about our experiences and something can be done about this IUD. There is hope. Your bodies will regulate. It's only been about 4 weeks for me, but I am feeling better so far since my crash. Don't hesitate to tell your dr.'s about any depression and anxiety you may be experiencing as those are very serious side effects and can be treated even if it's just temporary to get you through the crash. I also take a one a day multi vitamin. So maybe that will help to.

I was using the Nuvaring for about six months and It started to make my vagina sore, so I took it out for about two months. After my second period ending without having it in, I put in a new one; it has been two weeks and I am potting and getting terrible cramps. I don't know what is really going on and it concerns me because every symptom list I have looked at claims they are pregnancy symptoms or ovarian cancer. ah!

Hi. I have been taking Yasmin for a couple of years now. I previously took Ortho-Tri-Cycline for about 5 years. I am one of those people who always had heavy periods and severe cramps, though after the birth of my kids those things seemed to subside. My doctor suggested Yasmin because I had a lot of mid-month bleeding with the Ortho, and I had developed some adult acne. The Yasmin did seem to help (a little) with the skin issues, but I still bleed in the middle of the month--every month. I call it the 'second period.' I know that the pill has side affects but they are becoming unbearable. I am fat and bloated all the time, I loose hair and feel ugly and very tired. I also suffer from hormonal migraines which the pill is supposed to improve but I believe it may be making them worse. Lastly I have little desire to have sexual relations, which is NOT NORMAL. I plan to go off the pill and find a non-invasive form of BC, but my one concern is that I might break out like a 14 year old kid. I am 35--I cant handle that at this stage in life! I would be interested to know what happened to people once they stopped taking Yasmin.

Thanks

Has anyone experienced SEVERE HEAT INTOLERANCE (feeling like you're burning up inside) and sweating during periods AFTER MIRENA REMOVAL???

I had mine removed 2 months ago and this is my second period and I feel constantly thirsty (I literally can't get enough water), hot hot hot, and still exhausted.

I am 21 and am in the second week of the second pack of pills. I have to attend a low-income based women care and either these docs don't really care or are out of their minds. i have been having problems with cysts on ONE ovary (left) about a year and a half ago the cyst got 2 inches in diameter. It supposedly went away on its own. I ended up in the ER again a few months ago and found out there is another cyst on my left ovary (which i have reason to believe its the same damn cyst, just flaring up and down)
Anyway I have had horrible side effects on just about EVERY BC i've been on. depo and numerous diff pills. I even had a 2 month period while on the depo. but with Loestrin I have had countless side effects that incl:
hot flashes, anxiety, depression and mood swings, cold sweats, restlessness, sore and swollen breasts, constipation, heart burn, almost constant back pain and ovarian pain and worst pain when on my period. I had 2 periods my first month, missed ONE pill in the beginning of my second month and had a second period within 2 weeks with the most horrible pain. The only good side effects are an increased sex drive and a change in appetite.
I really don't know what to do. try a different bc pill or just stop altogether considering all the problems i've had.
i've thought about ortho-novum, girls my age seem to have less complaints about it....
this is so frustrating!!!

I've had similar experiences to many of the other posters. I've been on some form of birth control since I was in my teens. I've always had acne and was very concerned about weight gain, so I switched between the ortho's quite a bit. I used to take a shot (Lunelle) that was perfect, but its been discontinued. Anyway, about 3-4 years ago my doctor put me on Yasmin. I thought it was great! Skin cleared up, moderate weight fluxuation, which I attributed to inconsistent diet/exercise habits. I was so happy with it I pushed it on my girlfriends when they were looking for a pill.

But then about a year ago, it all started to change. I became WAY emotional out of the blue. I would cry over the smallest things. I had suicidal thoughts, totally lethargic and "hazy." My sex drive reduced to 0 - I love my BF, but we stopped having sex for nearly 6-8 months because I had no drive and would pick fights for NO REASON. Awful.

In March I got busy at work and stopped taking it by accident. I felt so good, so NORMAL, that I just discontinued use. The first month was great. My personality re-adjusted over night, I have more energy, I'm genuinely happy, my sex drive is through the roof. But now I am 1.5 weeks late on my second period since quitting. I am bloated and have noticed water weight gain. I hope that it can be managed with strict diet, exercise and anti-bloat pills. I am breaking out, but I expected that. It's bad, but I am hoping that Pro-Active will keep it at bay until my body regulates. But again, my mood is so much better that it seems like a small price to pay. So far anyway. I have not noticed the hair effects yet - I have always had very think, long hair. For those of you experiencing that side effect, there are vitamins you can take that may help you get through it. Ask your salon.

If anyone has any advice, or can share what happened after the 2 month mark, that would be great. I'm bracing for some tough moments.

I had mine fitted back in July of 2006. My side effects where severe cramping after sex, and sometime for no reason at all. I was disappointed that instead of my period getting lighter, it mostly stayed the same and was longer(7 - 14 days). After of putting up with this for a few years I got it removed April 14 2009. It was unpleasant and the cramping was pretty painful afterwards. The day after I started my second period (I just had it the week before removal). I had heavy bleeding for four days. I thought I was done, but then five days later I got another period that has yet to stop. Is this normal? My doctor said that it would be crazy until my body adjust. But this is too crazy! Has anyone else had this happened after their removal....I feel so drained.

First of all, a big thanks to all of you who have shared your experiences. I am a biochemist, with a background in pharmaceutical research...I chose the Mirena IUD after careful consideration of it's active ingredient, Levonorgestrel. The side effect profile seemed pretty acceptable...until I started to experience nearly ALL of them...I am 33 years old and had the Mirena IUD placed in October of 2008 after the birth of my second child in June of 2008. The initial reaction was to be expected...cramping, a little spotting etc...nothing to be alarmed about. I still have yet to have a period (which I really don't miss so no problem there) I never gave a second thought to this until now...for the past month or so (coinciding with the weening process, since I have been nursing the entire time, I believe the side effects were not as noticeable) I have been experiencing the following (that may or may not be related to Mirena as my OBGYN has so adamantly pointed out, but after reviewing your posts I'm willing to bet they're connected) and are in order of occurrence: Major, but temporary, hair loss after 2 months or so; Major respiratory infection lingering over a month with difficulty breathing, tightness and pain in the chest at around 6 mos; And in the past month, several instances of motion-like sickness/ nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, major impatience/ mood swings, loss of appetite (pregnancy-like symptoms...yep, I was thinking man I'd be pretty pissed if I was that 0.01% pregnant statistic), and as of this past weekend, my first aurora migraine with tunnel vision and serious nausea and vomiting, to the point where I went to Urgent Care...who referred me to the ER...who wants to perform a battery of tests including a head CT. I have an appointment with a trusted GP tomorrow to discuss possible root causes...but it is to coincidental that so many women are experiencing these same symptoms! I am certainly leaning towards having this removed. CAN THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD THIS REMOVED PLEASE RESPOND IF YOUR SYMPTOMS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED OR WERE RESOLVED!!! THANK YOU!
These side effects seem to go well beyond a 5% rate of incidence according to all of you who have reported. I will investigate further and keep everyone posted. As someone who is highly experienced in the pharmaceutical industry, you bet your a$$ I'm going to get to the bottom of this! Good luck ladies!

I started taking Yasmin about a year ago with little to no side effects besides lower libido and clearer skin.

However lately I have had dizziness, headaches and blurred vision which I think could be related to taking this pill. I have been skipping every second period, which could also be a cause but my doctor said that it is okay to have your period once every three months...

About 6mnths in I started having the side effects which seemed like pregnancy (which must have been cause by the pill) that were scary and made me too paranoid to stop taking the pill and I didn't think to try a different one.

I'm going to stop taking Yasmin now because I'd do anything to stop feeling like I'm always ready to faint and can't see properly... could it really be this pill??

I'm now on my second period post mirena (over two months now), and let me tell you something. I have my life back, finally.

I experienced horrific, crushing fatigue every day for the year or so I had that mofo in. In the past two months, I have done more with my life than I have in the past year.

Listen to your bodies.

Well, let's see, I am 37, I just had my third child a year ago. When I had my first child at 19, I entered the world of Rhumatoid Arthritis, I did not take anything for it, it just seemed to go away by itself. After the second child it flared up but not long enough or hard enough to remember. After the third child at 36, wow did it get bad, so bad i couldn't get her out of her crib. That was the day I started 10mg of pred a day,,it made all the symptoms of the RA almost disappear...almost...which was a miracle,,,but it made all the side effects of the med start,,,,weight gain BIG TIME, bad moods, maybe 2 hours of sleep @ night,,,hair loss which scares me the most, blurred vision, buffalo hump looks like I'm looking for something on the floor all the time,,a wonderful neck that looks like i swallowed a couple bananas whole,,hmmmm,,,,let's seeeeee,,what else, easy bruising thankfully I like the color purple, oh, and me and mr. potty have become well friends. At first, the doc thought it was hypothyroidism because I also had 2 periods a month, but a blood test told threw that theory out. I just want to say,,,,I like that my RA is better because of it,,,but I am as of yesterday taking myself off of good ol prednisone, and sticking to a high dose of IB or Tylenol. It's just not worth it.

Wow this page has helped me so much! I really thought I had lost my mind! I started these pills 2 months ago. I'm not sexually active but have very severe periods due to an ovarian disease. My OBGYN thought birth control would be the best choice. At first everything was great the cramps(which lasted 3 weeks out of the month for me) were gone! my mood did change. I've always been a very happy person and all at once I was this mean crazed person! I couldn't think about anything without feeling mad or angry or just wanting to cry. Then last week I got my first period after taking the pill I was in shock because I didn't even know it was coming. 4 days long I was so happy. I was off my period Wednesday and awoke Thanksgiving morning with the worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life. I went to the ER and they thought it was my gallbladder I've been having tests done all week. Well Sunday I got my period again!!! It's so much more intense then I've ever had in my entire life! It's now day 5 of my second period in 2 weeks and I was talking with my grandmother when she suggested maybe the whole problem was my BC. I read the little info pack the pills come with and was in complete shock. I decided to look up side effects and am so glad I did. I'm calling my doctor first thing tomorrow so maybe finally something can be done. Since I started this pill I've lost my appetite and been tired and bitchy nonstop! But with not eating I've gained weight! It's horrible!! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE! Good luck to everyone else whose coming off of the pill or just started it!

Has anyone had extreme heavy bleeding/clots after having the Mirena removed? This is day 3. The last time I had such heavy bleeding I had just had my son. When do you start to worry about the bleeding?

I've been on Loestrin for 6 months; I was taking Yaz to help with lighter periods and my doctor also thought the lower dose of hormones would help with my menstrual migraines. Yaz wasn't working so he switched me to Loestrin. The first couple of months were fine; I noticed a lighter period and less cramping. I was still getting migraines but they were coming at a different time than before. I just thought my body was adjusting.

For the past two months, things have gotten much worse. I'm having two periods a month and migraines leading up to each one. The headaches last 3-4 days. I've been very emotional and have never suffered from depression, but I have noticed that I've been isolating myself from co-workers and friends, and just want to be home alone after work. I am not sleeping well either, and feel bloated all the time. I'm not one to weigh myself regularly, and lead a healthy lifestyle, but I recently went clothes shopping and noticed I have gained at least 10 pounds since on this pill. I have a headache right now and this is the 4th day; I started my second period for March on Friday, and it's mostly the brown discharge some of you had mentioned. I'm on week two of the pack and don't know if I should finish taking them or not. I'm calling the doctor on Monday. Good luck! There has to be an easier way.

I HAVE BEEN BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDING FOR LIKE A WHOLE MONTH ALMOST WHAT IS GOING ON. LIES ALL LIES!!!!

I had to get off of the ring because it was terrible!!! The first month I used it, when i got my period it was like I was 13 years old again.. the cramps were unbearable, I felt like I had the flu, I was sore and so tired. I have also had frequent headaches ( and I never get headaches)... no sex drive!!! and once again had flu like symptoms before my second period.. I took it out the second month because I could not handle it anymore.. terrible!!! Being stuck home on a Saturday night because of the pain is not worth it.. and added vaginal discharge.. gross!!

I have been on Loestrin 24 FE since February. For the first few months I was very irritable, overly sensitive, and just plain moody. I hardly get any mood swings now, although they do occur sometimes and quite randomly. My contacts also bothered me a lot for the first 2 months, then they were fine, but recently they've been irritating me again. The thing that I don't like about this pill the most is that I get two periods. One at the end of the pack when I am supposed to (it lasts 6 days but is significantly lighter than before) and then another one two weeks into the pack (lasts about 6 days too, is very light, has a brownish color..quite frankly, just more annoying than anything). The second period comes with cramps too. The two periods started coming about 3 months ago, I am not sure if it's just from stress or something, because I started college or if other people are experiencing the same thing.
All in all I think this pill is alright, if the two periods continue to occur for another month of two I'm going to have to switch though.

I hate this pill. I have been on it for four months and have had two periods every month. I get my "first" period on my second week of pills and my "second" period at the normal time. My first period is pretty heavy with cramps...the works. The second is more normal and shorter. This pill is horrible. Also my breasts are swollen and I am tired all the time. I want to switch but am scared that I will just be swapping side effects with another pill.

First, I don't really like taking BCPs and have avoided them like the plague in the past. After giving birth to my first child this past December I had some complications. My doctor tried to fix the complication with BCPs, not Yasmin, and apparently they worked. I was recently prescribed Yasmin by my doctor as I am SO not ready to get pregnant again. I only took the pills for 5 days and then stopped, at my husband's request, and for my personal quality of life. I am not sure if the pills are the cause of my symptoms or not as I was only on them for 5 days but here they are. I woke up every morning with a headache, a nagging headache that did not go away. I had terrible nausea and hot flashes. The worst thing happened on the 5th day. I was shopping with my mother at a store that I have frequented when I had a terrible reaction. I had vision problems and felt as if I was going to faint. I have never had this feeling in the past when visiting this store, it was a sensitivity to the lighting, I think?

I quit taking the pills 5 days ago. Yesterday I started my second period for the month which may be my own fault for stopping so abruptly. At least I hope that is the cause and it isn't something more serious.

Hello all,
I have a question regarding menstruation. I have been off of oral contraceptives altogether since August. My first and second period came right on schedule. Now I am waiting around for my period. Even though it is only a few days late, I am terrified of pregnancy even though I use barrier methods and chart my temperature. Is it normal to have periods be a bit irregular, even if the first few after quitting were regular?

Hello Flowerbabies, I posted here a few weeks ago and you were very kind to respond. I am off yasmin 2 months now thank goodness, and I got my second period on saturday and the really bad anxiety I experienced the weeks before I finished Yasmin came back there at the weekend. Is this a side effect of coming off yasmin. I had a terrible time with depression and anxiety when on Yasmin, I have to say it did get better when I stopped taking Yasmin but Im 2 months off it now, I think the anxiety only seems to come back around the time of my period, I dread it now. Does it ever really go away. Advise from anyone would be great. Sweetcheeks (:

Well this explains why i am up at 2:00am typing this comment. I'm a 28 year old male and have experienced sleeplessness and irritability after taking this medication for 3 days... I'm a lucid dreamer naturally, and with this med, let me tell you i feel relieved to wake up, the dreams are nonstop and fast paced.

This is my second period taking singulair, previously i was taking it for about 9 days. I did not connect the dots back then but i do remember being cranky and wanting to quit work. I did not know why as i normally feel i have the best job in the world.
