My 8 year old son began using Advair this year after a bout of wheezing sent us to Urgent care. When he was finally officially diagnosed with Asthma this fall, our GP gave us Advair again. My son did great as far as asthma and breathing - didn't need his rescue inhaler once. Unfortunately he gained 8 pounds in 3 weeks and his face and stomach began to look extremely puffy. He also had 3 nosebleeds in quick succession, one when he slept which was a much larger nosebleed than he'd ever had before. I immediately discontinued his use of Advair when I went online and looked at the side effects. Unfortunately I had to talk to the nurses at my clinic several times to explain to them that I was CERTAIN an 8 lb weight gain was not normal and that I was no longer giving this medication to my son, no matter what our GP said. It seems that the clinical trials didn't show weight gain as a significant symptom, but later reporting by doctors has shown it. Doctors don't seem to have this information!

I took my 1st dose at bedtime 3 days ago. I woke up at 3:30 and was unable to really get back to sleep the rest of the night. The next day I took it at about 7:00pm to see if the "twitchies" were better. I still felt a litttle jacked up, but slept ok. However, I experienced some strange and severe itching on my legs and arms during the day after the 2nd dose. I actually had a bruise on my leg where I had 1 scratching attack(I have NEVER had anything like that before). I took my 3rd dose last night and slept ok, but I also took a single benedryl tab just in case for the itching. I had taken Zyrtec for years prior to this(without ANY problem except some initial fatigue the 1st week or 2). I have been dealing with allergies for years and am pretty tuned in to my system. I get allergy shots also. Years ago I tried 2 different "new" medications, Seldane and Hismanal(sp?), and had some strange side effects with those. I stopped taking both after a short time and several years later both were pulled from the market due to dangerous side effects. I am going to stop the Singular today and go back to Zyrtec until I get back to the allergist. After reading all the postings I am concerned about my 15 yr. old daughter who has been on it for about 6 weeks. I am going to reevalute her treatment.

I have been on Advair 100/50 for over 2-1/2 years and it's the best thing I've ever taken. It increased my lung capacity 33.5% and I do not wake up at night with asthma attacks. I don't have to depend on my Albuterol for rescue all the time either. I took Azmacourt 4 times a day prior and constantly had shortness of breath and asthma issues. I've been very fortunate on Advair! I have not had insomnia, difficulty sleeping, no musle weakness, no heartburn, and no rashes. I have had slight weight gain, and managed to get it off. I have constant allergies and allergic rhinitis so I do get occasional headaches. I can actually take a deep breath and not cough my head off. I can actually run and workout now! I do get dry mouth but that's easy enough to deal overcome. I may be an exception but it's a blessing for me! I take Allegra too and it is the best thing I've taken too. Seldane is better but they took it off the market. So I guess it works for some! Thanks.
