I've been on the ring for 3 months. Before that, I was on the Ortho tri cyclen Lo for like.. 5 years. I have had no noticeable problems with the ring, other than sometimes it gets in the way during sex, but if it becomes a problem I just take it out. I have not noticed any decline in sex drive. Actually, I think I have a stronger sex drive now. I have not felt depressed. The itching some of you describe would occur if you placed the ring without THOROUGHLY washing your hands with soap. So far, this method of birth control has been completely ideal for me, as a person who has serious trouble remembering to take her pill consistently. So far, I would recommend it to my friends. I'm sorry so many of you girls have had bad experiences. For those of you reading this who are considering the Nuvaring, just consider this: People who have bad experiences with a drug are more likely to get online and make their complaints know. People who are getting along fine are less likely to get on here to report everything is dandy. It's like a restaurant review.. "If they have a good experience, they'll tell two people, if they have a bad experience, they'll tell 12." Good luck.

I recently lost about 25 lbs and decided after about 8 years of 10 mg of lipitor, to go off of it, cold turkey. I consulted both my MD and my pharmacist about whether or not I should wean, and both declined.

I now feel that my sweats, hot flashes are out of control. I am so hot and tired. I feel as though I cannot do the daily functions that I am responsible for.

I truly had NO side effects that I know of ON the drug. I just figured I'd see how I do now that I lost some weight. I wonder if going OFF lipitor is dangerous?

If anyone knows, please reply!

Thank you!

I started taking Toprol XL after being diagnosed with SVT back in May of 2003. I was only in my late 20's & was very trusting, at the time. I was recently sent to a cardiologist because I was having horrible chest pain & the Toprol XL 50 MG wasn't working at keeping the heart rate down. The GP put me on a double dose as well as Cardizem to help with the chest pain & rapid heart rate. I was already on Lanoxin 0.5MG, the highest dose allowed. The cardiologist took me off of the Cardizem right away because he said that is was too stressful for the heart to be on that much heart medicine. I went though several tests & was told by the cardiologist that I didn't have SVT & that this was actually Postural Tachycardia (POTS) & Neurocardiogenic Syncope. I was taken off of Lanoxin, but kept on Toprol XL 100 MG. He put me on lots of salt & water to increase my blood volume which would help my blood pressure when standing. That was in June of 2007. All went pretty good, I thought, until January 18, 2008 when I was working. My heart rate went up to 136 just standing or walking across a room. I called the doctor & talked to a nurse who suggested that I take another 1/2 of a Toprol. I did that & felt better for awhile, but it was short lived. I had been having chest pain, rapid heart rate, fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain, headaches, nausea, vomiting, short term memory problems, rapid weight gain, hair loss, cold extremities, & other things I can't think of right now for what seemed like forever. My gynecologist & my cardiologist first thought that I had thyroid problems, but all tests have come back negative. They then thought that maybe it was from the birth control pills that I had been on for the ovarian cysts. I was changed from one medicine to another & at first I thought that was what was wrong. I am now certain that all of the problems that I have been having were & are a result of the Toprol XL. I was even told that all the problems were "psychiatric in nature". I know that that isn't it at all! I have never had anxiety problems & the GP now thinks that's all that is wrong with me & wants me to go on Zoloft. I tried it, but became so ill that after one pill, I quit. I now plan on weaning myself off of the Toprol XL without the GP's knowledge or consent. The cardiologist was planning on weaning me off at some time in the future, but I am starting without him knowing it at the time. I'll just tell him when I see him next month. Thanks everyone for alerting me to the facts about this medicine. If I had known then what I do now, I'd have never consented to starting it in the first place. My only question is, are some of the "side effects" going to be a permanent thing for me or will they eventually go away? Any advice would be welcome! Thanks again!

My diagnosis for needing this med was taccycardia, irregular heart beat, and now very slightly evalated blood pressure (that seems to bother me more than the DR says it should )I have been trying to find a new drug that doesn't interfer with my COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease...in other words trouble breathing) Most of the heart meds add to your symptoms causing thick phlegm to build up, or wheezing. Most of the side effects for Betaxolol did go away eventually. I had horrible anxiety that seemed to ache from the inside out - that has finally dissipated. Itching & irritability also went away. I don't sleep well on this med at all - find my self waking in the middle of the nite and can't get back to sleep. To reduce the breathing problems this med causes for my lung condition I have tried taking the drug every other day and I experience my heart bouncing around in my chest, squeezed throat, serious trouble breathing cause my lungs don't work when my heart rhythm is wacky. Of course nothing shows up on the 30 day Event Heart Monitor they put me on so I might as well talk to the moon. Boy would I love to hear from anyone with asthma, COPD, emphysema, etc that needs BP meds and what works for them!

I have been happy with the pills because they have taken away my migraines! I began on Topamax this May 2007 at 100mg per day until this Aug when I starting to have migraines again and my doc increase my dosage to 150mg a day. However, I think the increase in dosage has caused me to have nose bleeds. I was awakened by nose bleeding on two nights this past week. I see my doctor tomorrow to see if there might be another reason for the nose bleeds. The sleepiness was only a problem in the beginning, until I got use to the pills. The weight loss side effect is one I could use. However I have only lost 1 pound since I have started taking Topamax. Tingling in toes and heels, thirsty, taste change, upset stomach (must take a anti-acid with pill). No hair loss that I have notice. I am a bit depressed and right now don't want to have much to do with hubby. But he has gotten us into some serious trouble with the IRS. Which would cause depression, weight loss, anger, & loss of sex drive all of the things mentioned as Topamax side effects. I'll wait to see if any of these things increase before I stop the Topamax. Good luck to all!

Mirena almost ruined my life. I was terribly depressed and tired and moody. I had no desire for sex and for someone who lost my baby weight right after both of my girls were born, and have never had weight issues, I sure did gain a lot on Mirena. It has been over a year since I had it taken out and I am still trying to get those last few pounds off. I screamed at my husband and kids all the time and it was destroying my marriage. I am glad that my husband is so patient and understanding. He is a physician and he recognized the signs as a side effect from the hormones in the Mirena. He made me make an emergency appt with the GYN and have it taken out immediately. They should really be more honest about this thing and the potential side effects. It could have caused serious trouble for me.

I've been taking 50 mg. daily (and conscientiously) for several years. I've been taking thyroid supplements (synthroid and similar) for 35+ years. For 15 years, I've been struggling with the gradual weight gain commonly associated with menopause and stopping smoking cigarettes (after 30 years of 1+ packs daily). HOWEVER, It was about six years ago that the problem became a 50 lb. overweight and BMI in the waist-over-35" serious problem. I was always strong, quick to build muscle, and enjoyed being active. Swam .5 mi daily or walked 3 miles (or both) frequently until about menopause time. But then: about four years ago, I started having some pretty serious trouble breathing associated with exertion. Body aches and pains that I've described as arthritic, may also be involved here! Hence decreasing exercise and real worry about engaging in exercise. I've also been taking Lipitor and Avandia.
Frankly, I'm feeling that all my meds except Synthroid can cause me to gain weight - the catch 22 being that my elevated blood pressure and early type-2 diabetes are also negatively affected by overweight!! Now what???? Dr. appt, very soon, folks!
