I got the Mirena inserted 4 years ago when I was 24 and after a year of minor problems, it seemed to settle down, the following year I was bleeding quite heavily and after trips to my gyno they finally noticed I had an ovarian cyst which had leaked into my stomach, after the operation I was advised that cysts are a side effect of the Mirena (great to tell me that then) afterwards it all seemed to settle back down again and every now and then I would experience a cyst but it would burst by itself, I enjoyed not having my period or the cramps and had a reasonable run with it, however 2 months ago I had a cyst burst again and bleed for a week, my gyno said it would pass, however over the next 2 months I noticed that when having intercourse it felt like it was digging into me and was quite painful, last week I had another cyst burst and after bleeding for a week decided enough was enough and got my GP to remove it, experienced severe pain and they are now getting the Mirena tested...fingers crossed all side effects from this are gone and the tests are fine. I have not yet had children and will not know if this has effected my fertility till then. Would recommend as great as it can be, sometimes it is just not worth it.

Hi, reading all of this is so freaking me out!!! IV been on YASMIN for about a month now and was meant to get my 1st period on it yesterday, but it never arrived!! Also last week Monday I came to know of BREAK THROUGH BLEEDING!! It was the worst WEEK of my life, I thought I was going to die, I have never bled so much, EVER, It made my whole body lame, every one who saw me thought I was seriously sick. The cramps are back pain didn’t help either, it last for about 4- 5 days and then just suddenly stopped. So I can’t say I am eagerly awaiting my period this week, if it comes… I don’t know what’s up with that.
My face hasn’t really improved much I have had 2 huge mountains that left like it was under my skin, extremely painful! But other than that, I believe everything is ok. My sex drive has sky rocketing, in fact it’s almost embarrassing, ha ha ha ha. My moods have also really changed, but unlike a lot of you, mine has improved and so has my weight, I feel and look so slim!! I think I’m happy. BUT very scared after reading all of this now… keeping my fingers X

Hi Ladies,
i have had a mirena since Jan 2007. I have had continual spotting and have to wear a pad all the time. I was told it would settle down it hasnt. I have like period pain in the front and lower back, which at late, is getting worse. I think it is only natural to expect that when we place a foreign object in our bodies PLUS add the hormone that the possibility of having problems is likely. My advise,... lets make our partners step up to the plate and get the snip snip!! We were pregnant, got sick, gained weight, developed stretch marks, breast feed, gave them kids...NOW ITS THERE TURN

I have been using this drug for about 8 months and have found some of the side effects can be horrible. However i am in the process of separation and im terrified to face this without them. I know i am rather numb and at times just unconnected because of the drug but without them i would be crying constantly and i hated that. I believe i have been depressed for some time and i know for me the benefits of this drug far out way the difficulties of depression! The crying, sleeplessness, inability to get anything accomplished depression sucks. For me i have not gained or lost i am about the same. My therapist tells me to go off them slowly once things settle down i am on 300 mg of them now of which i started on 75mg to start. So i will keep you updated to my progress with getting off them!

OKay, I don't know if this has anything to do with Mirena or not, but I have had my implant since August 2006. Typically I am a very happy, healthy person. I eat extremely heathy (almost all organic, tons of vegetables & fish & almost no processed foods). Anyhow, for the last 6-8 months have have become VERY moody. I am often grumpy, I cry everyday, I have pain in my joints (I believe it to feel like arthritic pain). My finger joints are always sore. I am a fit person & am uncapable of opening a jar anymore. And, I have this nagging pain in my lower back to the left of my spine. Like I said, I'm not sure if this is because of my mirena implant, but I take no other medication, I don't even take OTC pain meds. I'm only 27 and consider myself to be very healthy. I'm not sure what else it could be. I suppose I will have it removed & see if I can become a normal human being again. I appreciate anyone else who can share their experience...I just want to know if I'm crazy or not???

I have been on toprol for almost 30days 25mg. I have been having anxiety, panic attacks especially at night. My body feels like it can't settle down and my heartrate is always faster than normal. My heartrate is normally around60's to 70's now it over 90's and I'm very tired and the first syptom I notice was tiredness. I am short of breath a lot I also thought it was allergies because my nose was stuffy but now I know it is this medication. I was doing just fine on my other B/P meds and I'm going back on them ASAP!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you all for sharing these horrible side effects I hope everyone gets off these meds and on something different.

Just got out of a 3-day stay in hospital because of Zocor.
Started with back pain, abdominal pain and cold feet & fatigued.
Then hands started getting numb.
Then numbness started making its way up my arms and legs, with increased pain all over.
My GP’s an idiot, time to find a new one; I thought I was going to die.
“They” say it will take 2-4 weeks for things to settle down.

Hello Girls, I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one to be suffering from side effects of Yasmin. I started taking Yasmin April 06 and from the beginning was having side effects, light headiness, nausea, hot flushes, blurred vision, but carried on taking it as my Dr at the time side that the side effects would settle down. But they didn't infact they got worse. I started to have numbness in my arms keep thinking I was going to pass out, light sensitivity and the worst migraines ever!! I have been off the pill since Jan and still now I have the bad migraines, nausea and blurred vision - I just hope that like some of you the time will come when my body can return to its normal self and that they obviously need to take a closer look at this pill before subscribing it to others.

I was prescribed Doxycycline for a urinary infection and have a peptic stomach. After one tablet the drug had my stomach so upset I had to eat constantly to keep from being doubled over in pain. After the fourth tablet I called my doctor and stated I could no longer take Doxycycline. The doctor then prescribed another antiobiotic. It still took almost two weeks for my stomach to settle down, but is still very susceptable to being upset between meals. I am also have more trouble with being constipated or having I was prescribed Doxycycline for a urinary infection and have a peptic stomach. hi ladies, sorry if this post comes up twice but my pc crashed so i have no idea if it added my last post or not!.

eryka.
yes it is quite common to feel ok for the 1st 3 months then start to feel a little worse again, this is due (i think) to your body switching from the synthetic supply of hormones to it's own natural supply,so it seems like you get a double whammy of hormones for a while. it will settle down again once all the synthetic hormones have been used up and your own hormones take over running the show again.it will happen so keep up with the supplements and have faith in your body.

hi sophie,thanks for your reply.
i also get a sore throat frequently, nothing seems to soothe it. mine seems to come in the 2 weeks before my period.

j.
yes i do still get chest pain even after 8 months. i did have an ECG a while back but everything was fine.i may have another just to make sure. i have been told over and over that all my symptoms are due to anxiety. i also get a feeling of being smothered sometimes like a can't get a full breath but it passes quite quickly thankfully. if you are worried then please get checked over.if you are told it is anxiety ask them to explain what happens during an anxiety attack to cause the pain.it may put your mind at rest if you know what is happening and why and also what the effects are.

Hi to all and in reply to the guest poster who asked how long it takes the cycle to get back to normal. Well my story is that i have been off it now for 8 months and still not having a regular cycle. my cycle is now 24 days instead of 28. Am in the process of having my hormone levels checked and so far everything looks good. I was on yasmin for 4 years though. So it had plenty of time to mess up my system. for the first few weeks after stopping yasmin i was all over the place as regards my cycle. Never knew when i was due because there was no pattern. Now it seems to be settling down. But don`t worry because it will settle down. It just takes some time for the damage to be put right. Take it easy and try to relax. At least you are off it now before too much damage has been done. I wish you and everyone else here the best of luck.

My cardiologist started me on 50mg of Toprol to "soothe" my irritated heart after a second catheter ablation for AVNRT. I don't have any noticable side effects and I'm supposed to be weaned off of it in a month or two once the nerves in my heart settle down. I'm pleased with the performance of this medication.

I have been on this BP Medication about 3 months. The Lisinopril side effect that has been getting increasingly worse is the tickle cough in the throat that hits its dastardly worse when I lay down for bed each night. The gag reflex starts and after terrible bouts with almost vomiting, I do finally settle down and sleep. Spoke with the Dr. today and he said to stop Lisinopril for 7 days and see what happens. So... I will let you all know next week.

This is a bit of an answer for birth control queen....

About ten years ago i was taking cilest and had severe IBS symptoms - I had lots of tests and did an exclusion diet which lasted about 12 weeks before the doc concluded that he could find no reasonable cause and that perhaps I was intolerant to fibre (the idea of eating white bread still disgusts me!). Anyway he did always say that he could link the problems of IBS with my menstrual cycle, but then he was not a gynie...

I never really questioned it before but my symptons of IBS cleared up about 2 years later, after I'd finished some big exams and finished a stressful relationship, so I just figured it was down to stress.

I've recently been having tests for endometriosis, which my gynie said probably account for the IBS symptoms I'd had... He is a fantastic professor, who specialises in endometriosis and he was happy to give me an IUD... I know that in Europe this is seen as a really bad contraceptive device, but I've never had any problems on it and it does not have any hormones in it at all. Recently he convinced me that I should try taking Yasmin for the pain that I get during the month.... Contrary to what a few of my friends experienced I had no extra pain as a result of the IUD - yasmin, however, made me have a month long period (i'm on my second packet), cry all the time and now I've redeveloped the IBS symptoms - feeling sick all the time with a feeling like a rock in my stomach, unsure of what to eat that will not affect me. I've just woken up with a big rash on my back too, which is usually a classic sign of a food intolerance.

My doc recommended that i give yasmin 3 months to settle down, but that was after the prolonged bleeding - there's no way that i'm going to go through the IBS symptoms again - any doctor can only guess at what causes it and none are really prepared to look at the connection with taking the pill in my experience.

I can highly recommend the IUD i've got (i can't remember what brand/make it is, but it's a small white plastic one without hormones - i'm sure your doc will know which one!)... For mood swings my partner agrees that agnus castus seems to be the best cure - if you're in oz / nz then great as the best makes are there, get it in liquid form - it makes you feel normal again and not like a complete psycho.

I don't have any answers for libido - endometriosis is not the best thing for sex drive... but hopefully some of wittering is useful!

I have just one question - have most of you who have stopped taking yasmin done so midmonth without any more horrid side effects??

To guest 12068
I'm so very sorry u r going thru this. That is way too long to be on pred. Is there any way your fiance' can go thru therapy with u? No one understands this demon drug and we r not ever told of the long term dangers of taking this. It will be 1 yr. or longer to be rid of the side effects from being on it for 4 yrs. I understand the anger problem. Mine lasts about 10 minutes then I get really quiet and then I'm ok. My husband is great about it. He just says calm down and waits it out with me and then I feel stupid and everything is ok again.(until the next time) It comes on so fast and leaves just as fast. I'm trying to talk to myself before I let anyone else see my mood. Sometimes I just walk away and settle down and then I'll be ok. I've got two wonderful friends who know what is going on and they understand and hug me when I get like that. I still have insomnia. I've been off of pred. for 6 weeks. Fatigue happens real sudden like rigor mortis is coming on. Ha It does feel weird. U r in my prayers even if we don't the names on this website. It will get better. Since u have been on this so long hang in there with the therapy and keep us all posted and ask all of us anything u want. Thant's why we r here. U don't know until u go thru prednisone hell. : )

Hi - message to Berryl - YES, the breast tenderness does ease up. I have had the most enormous, painful breasts since starting Yasmin 2 months ago, but finally they decided to stop hurting and go down in size this week - phew! I have never in my life had large boobs (except when I had my kids) and to suddenly have these huge things was awful - and the pain was unreal - I couldn't lie on my tummy in bed, and going on the treadmill at the gym was hell! My husband went away on business, and when he arrived home and greeted him at the door, he was astounded at my boobs! He asked if the "titty fairy" had been visiting!!!!

I also experienced the worst cramps going and nausea but it has all stopped - so my advice to all of you girls out there experiencing nasty side effects - hang on in there because I'm sure that over time, things will settle down.

I felt beyond desperate a few weeks ago and didn't think I could go on taking this pill, but now I feel so much happier, those horrible nasty sick feelings have gone and I feel so much more normal.

I have to say that whilst I was feeling unwell I did crave sweet things and have put on a pound or two - but now that I feel my old self, I will stop eating them and go back to my old habits.

Good luck to all of you

Sarah

I have had an upset stomach - bloating, wind - and varying diarrhea for about nine months or more. I am not sure but feel pretty certain it is linked to Pravachol. I was on 40mg, went down to 20 then back up to 40mg - total time on the drug was about 18 months (most of the time I was on 40mg) I stopped taking it seven days ago and my stomech feels less bloated but I still have soft stools and don't fancy any alcohol at all. My question is, if this is linked to Pravachol, how long should I wait for all these things to settle down after stopping the medication? I'm thinking of trying Policosanol - any comments on that?

Cipro caused me severe side effects, joint pain back pain, muscles twitches and vibrating, which i still have after two years. Cipro made me have severe bledding of the bladder. I was given levquin because cipro messed me up, that was dumb of them since levquin is the same as cipro only stonger

Flagyl made me crazy, hallucinations, can't sleep, anxiety depression, back pain and spasms. Took three months to settle down afte that drug.

Also antibiotics kill the bacteria that make vitamin K, Vitamin K helps with bleeding and inflamation. So that is why some people got bruises and bloody urine and diareah. So take lots of probiotics and eat yougurt and eat green leafy vegs while on antibiotics.

This message is for Donna who was looking for positive effects of Xanax. I only take 1 pill (.5 )or half a pill (.25)when needed and don't take another pill that day. It totally calms me down and makes me relax without any weird side effects. If I'm tired, the xanax will make me more tired so don't take it then. Also, don't drink any alcohol when taking xanax. Really use it when needed. I take mine when I'm flying in an airplane, a social function and when the kids are real fired up at home an can't settle down. Oh, don't forget when you have tons of company for the holidays. Xanax is a nice thing to keep on hand if you tend to get anxious from time to time - but don't abuse it. Never take more than one pill a day - and don't take one every day!
