I went on levaquin-2 rounds of it, due to pneumonia. I felt very out of sorts and discombobulated. Dizzyness, word recall problems, insomnia, diahrrea. My tongue was coated with a thick white film. One night my tongue and my hand felt very disconnected to me, and I had a strange but familiar taste or sensation in my mouth but I couldn't name it. It lasted 3 or 4 minutes. I think I may have had a petit mal seizure. I have been having trouble with my vision, things I read are blurry now, and I have never worn glasses, or had vision problems before. I have been off of this medication for 6 days now, and I am still feeling some of these side effects. I rarely have any side effects from medications. I will never take this again.

January 18,2007 I took my first of a seven day dosage of 500 mg. of Leviquin as a 2nd tier anti biotic. By the second day I couldn't get out of bed to get to the bathroom without help from my wife. When I did finally get there I had severe diahria for the first couple of days. Like a fool I trusted my doctor and stayed the course for the full seven day dosage. I finally called my doctor after I couldn't walk and scheduled another appointment that following week. He probed and prodded me , ordered some blood tests and scheduled an appointment with a rhuemotologist. In the mean time my wife Googled -"adverse reaction Leviquin". Well the fear of the unknown was solved BUT now I realise I'm stuck with something I might never get rid of , much less walk normally again.Well we armed with this information that was ALL over the internet and headed to see the Rheumatoligist. Some of you probably see where this is going. I was diagnosed with rheumotoid athritis. I insisted it was leviquin poisoning which he replied that he never heard of it. TOTAL DENIAL ! I was hoping for a cure, some answers, some hope that I would be normal again ---- but no , I get total denial from a professional. I'm guessing if there was ever a conspiracy in the medical profession , this was definately one. Well I needed a second opinion so I scheduled with a different clinic. I wound up getting more blood tests that only showed severe inflammation. All my joints in my hands, feet, knees, elbows, & shoulder were swollen. I love modern medicine. Anyway the diagnosis was that he was 95% sure it was "severe rheumotoid athritis" but ---- he would not rule out Leviquin because of experience with some of his other patients. At Last! Some ray of hope, not much, but enough to know I wasn't crazy for thinking that Leviquin was involved. Not that it mattered except for peace of mind because I was stilled treated for SRA. Its three months now and my kitchen counter looks like a drug store btween the meds and the vitamins. I've been on 25 mg's of methotrexate once a week, 10 mgs of prednisone 6 days a week with folic acid. For the first two months I was also taking 2400 mgs of Ibuprofin to help with the swelling. The last month I have cut that in less than half. Now I'm walking again although always having been a long strider my pace is quite a bit slower but nonetheless encouraging. But the intriguing part of all of this healing was I had also changed my diet drastically. I took (still taking) any vitamin, mineral, antioxident,(fresh from a juicer) that in any way shape or form was advertised in alleviating SRA. A two week vacation to Roatan was also squeased in where I partook in fresh fruit, fresh noni & fresh seafood . I combined this with daily snorkeling excursions. To make sense of this, I was being pushed around the Miami airport in a wheel chair (thanks American Airlines) on the way down. On the way back I was walking a decent pace while pulling my carry on luggage. So the big question is , was it the lifestyle change, the meds, or just time that has gotten me to this point. Don't really know and only kind of care. I'm just happy to be able to walk again , crumble crackers in my soup, take the cap off of a milk carton & open a beer can (I own a bar & resort). I have a ways to go yet but I'm encouraged by my progress. I had no idea three months ago how I was going to run my business when the season started. I hope everyone has as good of a spouse and friends as I have to help me when I was down for the 9 count. I hope this helps all the victims out there. I've also talked to nurse friend's and my pharmiscist and it's amazing how much of this drug is prescribed without adverse reactions. We're just in the minority, luck of the draw. Good Luck!

This poison almostkilled my husband who received it after back surgery. He went into shock and was hospitalized for four days. Started with swelling of throat and tongue, pain in extremities, burning sensation, joints, muscles, tendons all hurt, unable to walk or stand or sit up or eat or sleep. Turned into pneumonia, congestive heart failure. He is now on oxygen 24 7, morphine, a walker, 2 months later. Before surgery he had a clean bill of health except for ruptured discs. Levaquin is garbage

I had 3 lupron shots for endo. The pain from endo actually got a lot worse. After my third shot my doctor decided to give me a shot of depo provera. This was in a seven day time span. Has anyone done that before? It's almost been 2 years since my last shot, but I have been on depo provera almost a year and differant birth control pills with in this time span. Nothing seemed to help. My problem now is extreme anxiety and panic attacks with the memory problems. Has anyone had this problem after the discontinuation of lupron? I have almost every symptom of a hormone imbalance, but doctors say a hormone test won't show any thing. Can someone please give me your opinion. THANKS!!!

I ALSO HAVE CHEST PAINS AND LEG AND MUSCLE PAIN. I HAVE ALSO HAD TROUBLE SLEEPING AND MY FACE FEEL'S FLUSHED ALL THE TIME. THIS CAN HAPPEN WITH ANY ANTIOBOTIC SO I WILL COMPLETE MY SEVEN DAY DOSAGE AND HOPE THAT THE SIDE EFFECTS WILL GO AWAY.

I just wanted to add to the few positive experiences here.
Recently, I had an intense cough which one night led to some kind of injury to my rib. I decided to go to an Urgent Care doctor who ordered x-rays. A radiologist discovered what appeared to be a small infiltrate in my lower left lung. Suspecting that I may have actually had a mild case of pneumonia, the doctor put me on a seven-day course of 500mg Levaquin to rule out the possibility of something more serious.
I am four days and four doses into the course and have experienced only mild side effects. It feels as thought the Levaquin deminishes my energy levels a bit, slight difficulty in mental focus within the first few hours after dosage and a couple of mild night sweats have been noted. Other than that, there have been no ill effects to speak of. I suspect that this site has become a collecting pool of negative experiences. There are no doubt many, many others like myself who experience little to no side effects.

during a seven day course of Levaquin i experienced extreme gastrointestianl discomfort, chilling nightmares the general feeling of which would not subside upon waking. mentally i felt very strange and can only describe it as feeling "weird". i took my last dose two days ago and continue to have trouble sleeping. i am so glad i took the time to see if there was any information out here about this drug. i can say with certainty that i will absolutely never take it again and will make friends and family aware of my experience. thanks for all the informative posts. and good luck to those with lingering symptoms.

I took a 7 day dosage of Avelox. I went to the doctor for a sinus infection, and he inturn gave me a seven day sample pack out of his cabinet. How could Bayer be issuing these as samples at doctor's offices. At any rate, I took the full seven day dosage with the only side effect of being slightly dizzy. 3 days after my last dose, I woke up feeling like I had sprained my ankle. Within 2 days every joint, muscle and tendon from my lower back down to my feet was in extreme pain and almost totally immobilized. For 2 weeks I have hobbling around like a cripple in extreme pain and feeling like all my tendons are about to snap. I have been back to the doctor twice, and then to a rheumatologist, and I am going to an othropedic next week. I really hope this isn't permanent.Taking Aleve seems to help a bit instead of Advil or Tylenol, but I do not want to take harcore pain killers in the event that i could end up doing more damage to myself. I just hope this ends soon because it is driving me mad. This drug should be kept locked up in a cabinet to only treat people in extreme cases or taken off the market. I am young and physically fit, and now I feel like I am about 80 yrs on my last leg. Be very aware of what this drug may do to you.
