I am 45 y/o , and have been on the NuvaRing for 6 years and I love it!! Some months I get a little PMSish but I take Pamprin and it really does help. I have been spotting for a week before my period for several months now. ObGyn said it looks like peri-menopause, so I am going to stay on to help me through, plus the added bonus of helping to prevent certain cancers. I am sorry to hear that others have trouble with this type of BC. I tried pills, several different types and ALL made me sick. Tried IUD and I swear I could feel it in me. I just fold the nuvaring up into a little circle, insert and I don't have to think about it for 3 weeks! ..take it out...and a week later put a new one in. I will never use anything else!!

Ladies! I think it is wonderful that we are sharing our experiences here and helping one another. I felt it is necessary I share my experience as well. Thank You to all you ladies who have posted. You have helped me.
Got Aviene from my pharmacist saying 'it's same as Alesse, it's cheaper and the drug company covers this versus Alesse.' How dumb of me not to research this despite the fact this came without a box and instructions.Where is this made? Read up on it etc... things one would do BEFORE trying something. I did not do this and this has cost me.
I noticed changes as you all say you did as well. I have been taking the pill for 3 months. I work out as much as I can so about at least 3 times a week, I had a energy loss, I felt in an unexplainable way, just tired and irritated by the day. No, this is not normal for me. I got a great deal on a scale and stood on it and couldn't believe a 20 pound weight gain. This was not exactly a surprise since my clothes don't fit well and I am very uncomfortable. However, this still didn't make sense b/c I have breakfast and it's not junk, toast coffee or eggs with it or serial. For the last 3 months I made healthy lunches, I cooked ahead so took fish, chicken, rice, whole wheat sandwiches, orange juice, water, milk to work. No junk, no pop, no over eating. Had fruits and veggies. I was glad I was keeping up with this but to gain weight from it? I have a full time and a part time job keeping me busy and this life style, what I did for the last 3 months always included weight LOSS not GAIN. I am pretty pissed about this. (Of course, I am on Aviane, we are all pissed off, haha but not really haha right?) I have major issues with my face, considering I am using the same wash... no change...Anyway.. you're all seeing something doesn't' make sense. I have actually had bloating. Major bloating. 3 weeks. Never had this before. I took over the counter aid, that did help. I am 30 I never took over the counter aid.. let's not mention what I took but it helped.
Listen everyone, get off this pill. I will never take this pill again. I have 4 left this month and forget it I'd rather get my period tonight and anticipate change to occur.
On my way home, as usual of late, I tried to figure out WHAT is wrong with me. In conversation with a cooworker I mentioned the 20 pound weight gain and all and she said 'so much in such little time?' I was thinking about it on my drive home... I am at 2 new jobs and have stress but... to gain this much... and it dawned on me. I CHANGED MY B.C. It HAS TO HAVE something to do with it. I came home and goodled. You can't find anything on Aviane but negative comments. You go on Alesse... oh! a company website at least shows up.
Thank you Ladies... I believe I am having the same reaction as all of you did and I do sincerely Thank everyone for taking time out to post. You have helped me and I do think this B.C. is the reason for my current state.
I'll post in a week or two and then after a month to provide an update.
Take care Ladies!

I am 31 yrs. old and this is month 4 on the NuvaRing. I have been on several different types of BC over the years the side effects had been so severe I decided to give up on BC all together. When my doctor recommended NuvaRing I was leary, but I tried it anyway and was quite pleased until recently. I am not experiencing head aches, nausea, or irregular periods, but I am experiencing problems with my moods. Most of the time I am sad or I get agitated very quickly for no reason. I was shocked to read about some of you experiencing loss of energy. I thought I was going crazy. I don't seem to have any energy...I am tired all the time. I have been taking vitamins, but they don't seem to be boosting my energy any. I have gained weight in my stomach and seem to be gasy and bloated. My jeans are so tight...It is depressing! In a matter of 2 weeks my breasts have grown in size...I am sure I have gone from a 36 C to a D! What I am most concerned about is the blisters that appeared about 2 1/2 weeks ago on the exterior of my vagina. They are very painful and over the counter creams are not working. I am not sure if this is due to the NuvaRing. I have my anual checkup with my OBGYNE tomorrow. I plan on getting all of my questions and concerns addressed. My delima is do I stay on NuvaRing...I like that I don't have to worry about popping any pills and I don't get any major side effects. What should I do?

Help!! I need some advice. I'm 47 and have been diagnosed with HBP. I'm 6'2", 250 lbs. My Dr. has prescribed Lisinopril, which I'm suppose to pick up today. I've never been on any prescription medicine before. Don't have any known allergies. My BP averages 138/90 in the am and 170/117 in the evening. My fear is once I start taking this medication, am I on it forever? The side-effect described on this board are frightening. Any advice??

I had all the side effects of Stephanie39 and more.
I was admitted into ER on the 16th of August because i was struggling to breathe. I was treated for asthma, which i have never really had a problem with, and bronchitis. I was immediately put on various steriod treatments (intravenously and orally) and Levaquin 500mg PO q.d. I was then admitted to hospital. I left hospital 10 days later. After being there for 3 days my breathing was much better BUT i was feeling sicker and started with thrush in my mouth and swollen glands. I told the attending medical staff, including doctors about these symptoms. I was given an IV treatment of another antibiotic. (Rocephin) Day 3 i informed the doctor that i was starting to experience feelings of depression. He smiled and walked out. I can't tell how many various medications i was given during my stay but i do know that i had several different types of steriods, orally and intravenously and a few antibiotics but Levaquin was every day. When I left the hospital I was battling with depression, my body felt like it was poisened. I couldn't walk without my heart rate going wild. My muscles felt lame, my whole body felt edgy and like i had an electrical current running through me. My nerves in my legs and arms felt very agitated. I had a strange sensation of a mask on my face. I felt as if cotton wool was in my ears. I was incredibly dizzy and my balance was totally off - i felt like i would fall over all the time. It would take me an hour to get to the bathroom and back. (30 steps) The worst was that i didn't have the physical or mental stamina to do anything.I was very weak. The thrush/candida had now progressed into my colon and vagina.
The second day i was home i woke up and was in the most incredible pain. I was convinced that i would find bruising all over the top half of my body...i felt like someone had taken a bat and hit me all over with it. I could hardly move for the pain and no-one could touch me.
My husband took me back to hospital and after 4 hours they "could find nothing wrong" and sent me home saying i should take tylenol! I couldn't walk and was having dilerious type visions when i closed my eyes. When I got home i felt completely defeated and desperate. My husband found the site for Levaquin side effects and we both felt much better...there was hope.
I found a deep tissue massage therapist and got a treatment. I had hot ginger baths and used heating pads for sore muscles. I contacted a homeopath/accupuncturist and he told me to start taking Vit A,C,E and Selenium, (Anti-oxidants) Primadophilus Reuteri (which is good bacteria to counter-act the thrush) liquid concentrate Grapefruit Seed Extract (to kill the bad bacteria also for the thrush) and Milk Thistle to help my liver. I have also had 4 accupuncture treatments. (I had never had this before but was desperate- it definately worked for me. I could see an improvement about 4 hours later.) He also told me to drink at least a gallon of water a day and to only eat veggies for the first 4 days. (That was hell and i cheated.)
It's been just over two weeks of this treatment and i am finally able to do most things. I still haven't tried driving and won't be doing anything too active for a while. I did start with some very easy stretching Yoga exercises.
I have to continue the above treatment for 3 months at least before my homeopath thinks that my body will have rid itself of all the toxins!
I am very angry about this. I would hate for a child to have to go through what I did. Anyone can mail me for support.
My only fear is long term damage...especially to my Liver.

I have been reading all the side-effects women have been experiencing with the Mirena, and I just needed to add my two cents. I am a 28 year old woman, no children, very physically active, and I have had no problems with my mirena. I have had my Mirena in place for a year and a half. I have had no weight gain, no tenderness, no facial hair, no mood swings, nothing. The only side effects I have experienced are very light to non-existent periods. I have had my Mirena checked by my doctor regularly, just to be on the safe side. So, some women may experience negative side-effects, but others do not. I have been on several different types of birth control; the pill, the patch, the ring, natural planning, and now the Mirena and this is BY FAR the best method I have used. I feel for the women who have experienced negative side effects, but for me it's the one that works. Oh, and it did hurt having it put in since I have not had children. My cervix did not want to dilate, and it took two tries to get it in, but once in, I was good to go. Now my husband can be active any where at any time with no worries.
