Severe back pain symptoms and conditions

cannot believe how many stories I have read about mirena and hair loss etc..etc.. etc.. I have experienced many of the side effects that everyone is mentioning.. I actually feel I could live with most of them if it weren't for the hair loss. I have had ( copying from other post.. ridiculous right?)Tired all the time
~ Depression
~ Hungry all the time
~ leg cramps
~ HAIR LOSS TO THE POINT OF BALDING IN SEVERAL AREAS
~ oily skin and bad breakouts
~ Mood swings (huge...yelling fits at my husband and the kids)
~ fluttering in uterus
~Sore breasts..

I have medium thick hair that is about 10 inches. I noticed a bald spot in June and now have discovered 4-5 others starting. I just had the iud removed today and my OB pretty much tried to convince me that there is no way that the IUD is causing my issues. I have never had any of these issues before. I got the Mirena on 4/30 of 08 and noticed slowly but surely all of the side effects mentioned. My OB told me that the progesterone could not be causing my issues because it is such a small dosage that it would be comparable to spitting in the ocean as far as the amount that is in my blood stream. She said because I am black and 35 that I may have an autoimmune disorder and that I should stop reading blogs. I told her that all of my research wasn't from a blog and that ALOPECIA is a side effect just not mentioned in my pamphlet that I can find. I understand what she is saying and that she is the one that is the doctor, but nobody knows my body better than I do.. I am in it!! I have never had any problems and have been healthy my entire life. There is no history of autoimmune disease in my family. I am going to my primary care doctor.. to have some blood tests done. I think that the mirena has caused an autoimmune response in my body.. it may not necessarily be the progesterone..although I don't rule it out no matter what she says . the progesterone is synthetic and has an androgynous like activity that is similar to testosterone the main thing that causes male pattern baldness. also Mirena is made out of Silicone.. perhaps those of us that are having hair loss are having it due to our body trying to fight off the foreign invader of the IUD itself. I was going to go and have the Paragard inserted.. because i was thinking it may just be the progesterone.. nope... I read that many women are complaining of ACNE and HAIRLOSS even with that because its made out of copper. So with that being said.. not sure what to do.. may have to go back on Yasmin.. didn't seem to have any problems with that.. I really just don't want to risk putting another hormone in my body.. We all need to get together and look into a class action suit because I am tired of being made to feel crazy by doctors.. sometimes what seems to not be possible is .. especially when there are so many women having the same problem. Feel free to e-mail me re: a class action suit.. if they took depo off Mirena needs to come of too. It seems like it has really screwed a lot of peoples system up.. Well I have been taking this pill for about a year and for the last months the side effects have gotten worse. At first I ignored them because I didn't realize they were indeed side effects. I am experiencing shortness of breath, numbness in my arms, mood swings, depression, hair loss, and this awful dark brown "stuff" instead of blood when my period is supposed to be on. I also now suffer from cramps and severe back pain that I never had before. I started taking the pills to prevent pregnancy and for lighter periods. But I would now have to agree it is hardly worth it!

I am 39 and started taking Loestrin because of a heavy period which I thought was a miscarriage. I have been taking it for 1 month now and woke up yesterday morning with severe back pain and cramps going down my thighs. I was unable to move all day and took more Ibuprofen than I should have. I have had cramps and bloating the whole month and have been taking the brown pills for 4 days now and just started bleeding today. I am unable to function normally with the back pain and my boyfriend wants to take me to the emergency room. Has anyone else had severe back pain? I have had 2 kids and it actually felt like I was having back labor pains. It was that bad. Please let me know.

Had the Mirena inserted in May of 2006. Have not had a period in at least 2 years. I am now having severe back pain that has been going on the last few months. I have trouble getting out of bed every day for months. I'm thinking that this may be caused by the Mirena but I don't know. I also stay constipated anymore and it's terrible. Anyone have any advice?

I have had mirena since July of 2006.. I never thought about the things I was feeling could be related until I just read your blogs! I constantly feel pregnant and I am talking all the symptoms!!! Bloating and stomach pains included! Depression, anxiety, sleepiness here lately, severe back pain, numbness.. I am almost 25 and thought some of these problems were growing pains(I know that probably sounds nuts). Please if anyone has a suggestion as far as what I should do here is my e-mail address ******! I had Mirena put in on July 2nd. I had it removed today (August 4th). I gained 10lbs in 3 weeks, my hair is falling out like crazy, my face is breaking out, I was having kidney pain and the most recent was on Sunday when I couldn't get out of bed due to severe back pain and I couldn't lift my right leg. My husband had to pull me out of bed so I could use the bathroom. Any time I sat down, he had to pull me up. As the day went on, I could slowly start moving more. Yesterday and today my back was still very tender. I had it removed @ 3:30 this afternoon and my back pain and tenderness is completely gone (it's now 8:15 p.m.) My doctor told me that Progesterone is what causes all of those symptoms so he recommended I wait 2-3 months before trying any kind of birth control to get all of the hormones out of my body and make sure it's not a thyroid issue. Two people I know have Mirena and they have no symptoms and they love it. I on the other hand, can't say the same. I think people sensitive to progesterone need to find a different route.

I was wondering if anyone has any updates since having it out for more than a week or so. I pretty much just have moderate to severe back pain and possibly weight loss, sometimes bloated belly, but also haven't really exercised since having my baby 7 mo. ago. ...

I am 45 and had the device inserted in June. Since then I have had an annoying constant red-brown discharge and my period three times. My menstrual cramps are definitely greatly lessened but what is freaking me out (apart from the discharge) is the anxiety I am experiencing for no reason. I am also feeling depressed. I am greatly concerned as being on the pill many years ago I had a mild stroke and my doctor assured me that the hormones ion the Mirena stay in the uterus. Why then the sudden anxiety attacks? I have always been a really laid-back person - I can only relate this sudden appearance of anxiety to the Mirena - it started about two weeks after I had it inserted.

I am now debating whether to ride it out - has anyone had the anxiety subside?

I had my 2nd child and did not want any more, I was scared to get my tubes tied because I had a newborn & a 4 year old to take care of.
Since I had Mirena, I have had severe back pain, weight that won't budge no matter what, severe constipation, swollen legs & feet, panic and anxiety attacks, moodiness, hot flashes, miscarriages, severe stomach cramps, depression, bloated stomach, almost constant nausea, headaches, you name it I have it.
My husband got a vasectomy 4 weeks ago and I can't wait until I can get this horrible evil thing out of me.
I didn't think it was the IUD until recently. My doctor played it up like it was a miracle contraceptive-even told me it was better than tubal ligation and vasectomy. ha!

I am a 23 year old female. I was prescribed Avelox for a sinus infection for 14 days. by the 5th day, i started feeling severe back pain and tingling throughout my entire body. I have stopped taking it on the 7th day. Now..i am restless...twitching...anxious all the time...and feel like i am literally having an out of body experience. My nerves are all over the place. It is hard for me to pay attention at work. This is the worst drug i have ever taken and this should be taken off the market immediately. my lips are numb, my back is in so much pain. WHY IS THIS ON THE MARKET! If this doesn't go away, i will sue...

My experience with Lisinopril is brutal! I'm 37 years old and was prescribed this drug for high blood pressure. After 2 yrs. on a 10 mg. dose per day I started having numbness in both of my arms I also had sharp pain shooting down both arms at night to the point where I couldn't sleep.And when I did fall asleep I would just wake up an hour later in tremendous pain. Ive been to three doctors. They tested me for carpal tunnal and told me I had it. But didn't schedule any plan of action, so I thought with some rest it would go away but it didn't It got worse. Then I started to have severe back pain that went clear through to my So the doctor wanted me to get an ultrasound of my testicles to check for testicular cancer. The test was negative. Since the pain was on the right side in my lower ribcage area they then thought it may be my kidneys. They then sent me to a urologist who wanted to go up my penis to scope my bladder with a camera and check for bladder cancer. Which turned out to be a very very painful experience. There was nothing wrong he said. During this time the pain was as bad as ever. Then they wanted to do exploritory kidney surgery on my right kidney. I was thinking my god am I gonna die.....I went through the surgery and the doctor said there was nothing wrong.I could not believe I was in this much pain and they couldn't find anything wrong. I thought I was dying for real. Then I decided to go on web md and try to find out anything that it could possibly be. I couldn't find anything with all the symptoms that made any seance. A few months went by with no relief... I decided one day to google my medication (Lisinopril) and joint pain, w/ arm numbness well. This site popped up and I started reading and Im glad I did. I believe that for the past year that I thought I was dying and no one could tell me why is because of this toxic poisons pill Ive been taking for two years is the reason for all of it. Ive spent thousands of dollars, had two surgery's ,went through all this pain all because of a little poison pill for blood pressure. I have flushed my pills and I,m never taking the drug again. I warn anyone who has high blood pressure if your doctor mentions the word Lisinopril tell them no!!!!!!!!! It is poison for the body.I believe it would killed me if I hadn't stopped taking it and not one doctor mentioned it may be the pill I was taking everyday for my blood pressure.

I am 23 years old and I had Mirena inserted November 18, 2007, about 5 months after the birth of my second daughter. I have had it in a little over a year now, and I hate it. It's actually funny cause as I sit and type this message, I am having overwhelming cramps, that like someone else stated in this article, are comparable to labor pains. Right around November of 2008 I started having severe back pain from out of nowhere. After numerous visits to the E.R. I finally got my doctor to send me to a specialist, and I am now taking a muscle relaxer, along with an anti-inflammatory. I also have diarrhea, along with vaginal discharge that has been non-stop since I got this thing. Along with the numerous bacterial infections that I have had, I went to see my doctor about 2 months ago, and I had a pap-smear done. The doctor informed me that my pap was abnormal, and then proceeded to send me to yet another specialist. I go to that appointment next week and I fully plan on having Mirena removed. Last but not least of my problems, I also have no sex drive. Best wishes to any one who has it, and experiences no side effects, but for me I have never had so many health issues until I had this thing put in. I would not recommend Mirena to anyone!!!

I just use Ultram er 200m one time in my life, last night for my back pain ,I am very happy because the severe back pain I had getaway, but now since this morning went I wake up I fell to bad with nausea, dizziness , itching, vomiting I can't drink even water because i need to go and throwout. I do not think I will continue with this medication. Just one pill was an off for me to discontinue the medication.

My 19 year old daughter received the first shot in March 2008. She immediately had a severe back pain. She had her first seizure in April. She got the second shot in May and had more seizures, fatigue, headaches, severe stabbing stomach pains, body aches and pains, tremor, hair loss, vision problems, 2 UTI's, mono like symptoms - swollen glands, bruising and bleeding gums are the most recent symptom. She had daily seizures throughout the summer and they are now about every 5-6 weeks. She is fighting to recover from this horrible nightmare called Gardasil. Thank goodness we figured this out and she did not get the third shot. 49 year old male started 4 years ago at 20mg and 10mg HCTZ. some results in lowering BP. 2 years ago MD upped it to 40mg because BP inching up. quit smoking 3 years ago, not one puff since. After MD upped mg the side affects have really kicked in. I experience all the side effects listed on this site with the exception of the cough which I started with but went away after a couple months. I have had stress tests, Holter monitor for heart arrhythmias, mri, blood work, stool samples, colonoscopy, and all sorts of other tests all coming saying I'm ok, yet I don't feel ok, I get progressively worse. After 4 weeks of 5 day a week exercising with weights and aerobics to get in shape to return to racquetball I have had it. I couldn't last 45 minutes my second day out. I felt like I was hit by a truck and it took a couple days to recover.
My MD attributes the issues to aging. I going for a second opinion and third if necessary. I am told by my MD that there are no studies showing these side affects for this medications. However I look at this web site and find it hard to believe that these doctors just haven't seen any evidence of what we are all suffering from. Why don't doctors really listen to patients. We are asked to listen to our own bodies and told we know our bodies better than anyone, yet when we bring up these issues we are treated like children.
No real answers, just questions

I had my Mirena put in on 12/23/08. That was just a little over one month ago. Thus far, I have had almost constant bleeding, or spotting, almost every day since I got it put in. That is expected, so I've been told, so I'm not too concerned. However, last week, my first real "period" started. Since then, I've had headaches, have been crabby and completely fatigued. I could sleep forever. I'm not sure if these problems are going to subside. Most of the postings on here have had the Mirena for over a year. Can anyone recommend how long I should give this thing a chance before getting it removed? There is no way I can live life this crabby and tired.

Hi, I'm a 24 year old mom of one. I got the Mirena in December of 08. Which was about two weeks ago. I haven't felt the same since. No Joke I have gained 7-8lbs since then. I also haven't stopped bleeding. And a foul oder has been added to it. I'm also having some serious chest pain, Feels like heartburn. But I know its not. I recently moved from the state that I had it put in. And now have to wait till my medical kicks in. I was told that this was the best birth control out there.. But found out thats its just an abortion over and over again. I'm a Christian women and have my beliefs on that subject. I feel sick all the time. Not like being pregnant.. Just flu like. And my poor child. I don't think I have ever lashed out on her the way I have been. Can anyone explain to me why my body is changing so much so fast. I was also told that there was NO hormone in this. Its just an unsafe place for sperm to be.

My son who is just 17 has been on the drug for just a week and the very first day he was on it he experienced severe back pain. He was not able to stand up. It got worse, he felt as though he had to eat continuously or he would vomit, the more he ate the more nauseous he became. This is not somatic, because he had no idea that I had added a new medication to his regimen. He has ADD and a mild mood disorder. I have stopped the medication and will notify the doctor tomorrow. He was only on the medication for 4 days. I am a nurse practitioner and this medication is not worth the multitude of severe side effects for the diagnosis of mood stabilization.

Oh my God donno where to start,
I am breastfeeding my baby and I am on Mirena for a year now, I have gained 15-20 pt( although we're poor and sometimes have no food to eat), I do work out every 3-5 times per week, doing yoga and jogging, and strolling away. I started to get severe back pain, that hurt so badly that I couldn't bend.I get cramps on and off and became highly irritable and depressed. I look like a puffy balloon, my head is thinning and I am only 26...

Ahhh, Loestrin 24 E....where do I begin?? Well, first off I have to say that I started taking this
with a completely open mind. I didn't read the box for side effects and I didn't search the web
to read all the blogs. I just started taking the pills on the first day of my period as instructed.
I knew from taking birth control previously in my life that I am putting hormones in my body and that
my body might react to them but, I didn't think that much about it. I started feeling 'funny' about
the 2nd day into the pill but, I just thought that it was the extra hormones that were in my body that
had not been put there for YEARS!!! About the 4th day on the pill my husband really started to
notice a change in me. I was moody. I would go from happy to sad in a second flat. He told me that
I was doing it and I just got mad at him for saying it. Then I would be mad for being mad. I could
not get happy-these feelings didn't end. I had a HARD time getting over ANYTHING!!! I also had a
major sex drive before I started the pill, then it dropped. It was so weird. I went from wanting and
having sex up to 3 times a day to not wanting my husband to put his hands on me at all. It was not
good for us. About day 8 or so I still was not admitting that the pills were making me not me. By
this time I was in a MAJOR depression. Nothing made me happy, my husband would try and try to get
me anything and everything to make me happy and nothing would work. I hate to admit this but, I
didn't even want to see my son. And he and my husband our both my life!!! I live for them and love
them more than anything and want nothing more to spend all the time in the world with them so when
I started feeling like I didn't want either one of them around and that if I died or killed myself
that no one would notice I knew that there was a problem. I hurt my body was in constant pain.
It didn't matter what way I would sit or how much I would stretch I still hurt. I would fall asleep
(well really pass out) at 8:30-I just was sooo tired. It was worse than being prego. I was bi-polar
like crazy!! I could not concentrate on anything. I had major anxiety!! My breasts were super tender
and blew up the week before my period. They hurt so bad. My back hurt like crazy. I have NEVER had
zits before but, since I have been on this my face has broken out a number of times and I have back acne!!
I HAVE NEVER HAD THAT!! I was so sad for no reason at all. I am not a person who cries and I would cry over
ANYTHING!! I got nausea BAD!! I have had headaches. I gained weight quick!!! The list could go on and on!!!
It was pretty hard to get it off. I didn't admit it to myself or my husband
until about day 11. I finally called the doctor and told her to get me off the pill. She has put
me on ocella and I started it 3 days ago. I was still bleeding until yesterday. I had a light period
but, it isn't work the crazy bit** that I was in the mean time. I am so happy to be off Loestrin 24 E
and would not give this pill to ANYONE. My sister-in-law had the same problems that I did. I am finally starting
to feel like myself again and I am loving it. Looking back on the way I acted it was like an out of
body experience. I hope this helps others!!!

I think that if you are having any question on if you should stop taking this drug then STOP taking it!! I am so glad that I did!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there. Im a 25 yr old fem im type 1 diabetic I have been on this medication for 4 days and i could tell its causing problems

My side effects include a lot of mental issues
anxiety and depression
the second day i took this i went to work and thought everyone was mad at me because they were on the phone when i said hi or because they were looking at a paper when i was talking to them

the next day when i went to pick up my kids i felt like my mom and my sister were ploting against me

while my husbands at work im feeling more needy and i call him wanting him to stay on the phone with me when i know he cant

im also experiencing memory loss i cant remember getting off of work i remember going down stairs but like it was something i dreamed and it was foggy and details went clear

also conversations with my husband are like dreams and foggy

im usually a detail freak and can tell u exactly what u said if u mis quote your self

im calling my doctor i thought it was jst me but im sure it has something to do with Lisinopril

i have had mirena for about three months now, it has been an absolute disaster. every scince i have had mirena i have suffered from severe back pain, terrible headaches, severe abdominal pains, mood swings, depression, and anxiety about absolutely every thing. every night i stay up because i have a fear that there is something really wrong with me and i am scared that i am going to die in my sleep. i do not know what to do i have been to several doctors, i have had blood test, x rays, ekgs and every thing else and no one can seem to find anything wrong with me, so i assume that these symptoms are being caused by the mirena. i have a doctors appointment soon, so we will see what my doctor says!!!

I have been taking Ultram 50mg 3 times daily for almost 8 years. I had severe back pain that extended down my left leg. I went to a Neurologist and he performed back surgery. I did quite well for about 3 months and then was experiencing the same problems. He then prescribed Ultram ER and it has worked great. The only side affects I have recognized have been sleeplessness, hot flashes, nausea that goes away in about 1 hour after taking it, and super energy. The benefits far outway the side affects. My 34 year old brother was prescribed the 50 mg. tablets and he had to be transported to the emergency room because of a seizure. Needless to say he was advised not to ever take another pill.

38 Y/O male with severe back pain on the upper left side just between the shoulder blade and spine. I was taking lipitor over 2 years ago and experienced the same problem. I never figured it was the lipitor and took several trips to the dr and chiropractor. When my cholesterol dropped below 150 I stopped taking the 40mg of lipitor but never told my doctor. All pain in my back stopped. Back in June of this year he insisted I go back on the lipitor and less than 1 month later the pain returned. My entire summer was a waste. I couldn't sit for long periods of time and driving in the car was a nightmare with the throbbing back. Just this past Friday I was out shopping with a friend and ended up taking several aleve for my back, right then I had an epiphany and said that I was gonna stop taking the lipitor for 1 week and see if my back improved. That was Friday, its now Monday and the pain is only 1/2 what it was....I suspect by the coming Friday I will be pain free.
