I was prescribed generic Macrobida for UTI and developed pain in my legs and hips within a couple of days of starting it, then headache and feeling lousy, next severe constipation, then anxiety and sleeplessness (I was unable to sleep all night one night). The constipation, anxiety and sleeplessness were so severe and so unusual for me that I decided to look online to see if they might be related to the antibiotic since I hadn't changed anything else lately and found that other people have had the same problems and realized that the body aches, general malaise, and headache was probably related as well. My choices of antibiotic therapy are limited due to allergies and bacterial resistance issues so I will try to tough it out but wanted other people to be aware of some of the problems this medication has caused me.

I've been on and off Tegretol for about 15 years. In just the past 6months I've been suffering from severe constipation. I have to stop taking it for a couple days so i can just go to the bathroom. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so what was the solution? I've tried all laxatives but I want a permanent solution.

Back in May 2007 I screened to take part in a clinical trial involving advair diskus. apart of the screening involved giving me a dosage of the drug. I was given a heart monitor to wear for 24 hours I was snet home and told to return tomorrow. The same day I left with the heart monition, I felt tired through out the day, very sick and nauseated. I didn't make it into the trial for whatever reason, but as the days went on my symptoms got worse, they included: severe constipation, heart burn, burping (GERD like symptoms), BLOATING, I experienced energy dips and dives throughout the day, headaches and dizziness. This went on for months, then I began to have pains in the middle of my upper back...then the chest pains started, after realizing it had to be more than muscle pain, I decided to go to the ER. I told them my symptoms, they did an X-Ray and CAT SCAN. the conclusion of the two test was an enlarged heart(Cardiomyopathy), and it remains so today.
I have recently learned that chemicals in some drugs can damage/weaken the cardiac tissue..which has to happen before the heart can enlarge.

I had the Mirena put in in March of 2007, shortly after my 6 week post partum check up. I have always had terrible side effects from bc pills and I am allergic to latex (....condoms,etc), besides I'm married and it's so weird and inconvenient for a married couple, with 3 children and LITTLE time for sex to use condoms!! With all this in mind, my obgyn convinced me to consider this product. I did my homework as instructed and all research came back with the same answers: NO DOCUMENTED side effects. My biggest concerns were weight gain/mood, aggression. I was assured this would not happen to me again. The insertion was super easy; didn't feel a thing, then a few days later it felt as though I was in labor all over again and this lasted for about a week. I continued to bleed for approx 5 months, and since i have had to wear a panty liner everyday for discharge/spotting. After reading this website, I've come to realize that all the "strange" things happening to me are apparently not so strange/rare: the terrible headaches, leg cramps, SEVERE acne that scars (everyday of the month, currently using proactiv for that, but not helping one bit! and i've never had a zit before in my life), I'm 27 and feel as though i have the joints of an 85 year-old...my knees and hips ache 24-7. Yes, the mood swings are there too. My poor husband and children....i'm happy one sec, then biting off heads the next. I have also had severe constipation, having to do regular enemas to have bm's. Worst of all, after busting my butt to lose 25lbs of baby wgt 3 wks after giving birth, I started gaining it back 3 weeks later after having Mirena inserted. I have gained approx 38 lbs since the end of March. I have completely changed my diet to..sugar busters, 1200 calories a day, exercise 5 days a week, excessive amount of fiber and water, and i'm even taking ephedra/hoodia pills 3x a day. I can honesly say I have not lost 1 pound, not 1. We are not sure if we want anymore children, but if so not for a few years, but I cannot endure the suffering anymore, and neither can my family. please reconsider having the Mirena put in your body! So many women post complaints, why is there NO documented side effects with this device with the manufacturer and physicians who recommend it?????

I have been on methadone for about 4 years. I have gained about 60 pounds within 2 yrs of being on the program. I never had a weight problem in my whole life until now. Dieting and exersize did nothing. Also have severe constipation.Ive tried about 15 diffirent drugs to help the constipation. Most of them helped the issue but still leaving me with 1 or 2 bowl movements within 8 days.If I dident take anything for it Id wind up in the er with no bowl moement at all in severe pain. Also my stomache is huge, at times I look about 5 months pregnant. If anyone has any advice for the problems I am having please let me know.

My 9 year old daughter has been on singular for several years now for allergy and asthmatic type of symptoms. This year she was in third grade and she has struggled all year and her teachers say that she day dreams alot and seems like she can't controll maintaining focus. That she just don't have the attention she needs. She has trouble memorizing things like multiplecation facts. So i finally decided to take her to a phsycologist and she felt like she may be depressed and also they tested her for add. Before all of this i actually had her tested for diabetes because she is tired all of the time and urinates often. Well those tests came back fine. Her phsycologist said the results from her add test came back that she was add. My daughter's father was dead set on medicating her so he started searching and came across this web site. Now that i have read these i am not sure that she has add at all. Because she also has had nightmares and leg cramps, and severe constipation. It just never occurred to me that it could have been her allergy med. I have taken her off of the singular and plan to test her again in a few months for add and see if there is a difference in the results. Before we go down the road to med. for add.

My daughter, now 6, has taken Singulair on and off for the last 2-3 years for asthma. It works but the side effects are not worth it. My daughter has had encoupresis (severe constipation causing accidents) since starting the drug, as well as mood swings. Because she has also had to take Flovent (also Advair, Pulmicort) and Albuterol we have never been sure which drug was the culprit. We took her off Singulair at the end of the summer in 2006 and kept her on the Flovent and Albuterol (as needed). We got the encoupresis under control and her mood dramatically improved. This January 2007 she started having allergic reactions everyday at school and was going to the school nurse to get Benydryl. We decided to put her back on the Singulair a couple of weeks ago. The encoupresis symptoms have returned and the moodiness is horrible. We are stopping the medicine from now on, does anyone know of an alternative that helps with food, grass and animal allergies??? Thanks for your help.

500 mg for 5 days UTI Burning pain in upper and lower extremities, tin tast in mouth, burning eyes, hair falling out, severe constipation, dry skin, muscle twitches, tremors, extreme anxiety...FDA does not respond to reports..I think the adverse drug effects are ignored because of profits.. they are not interested in the true # of individuals who are seriously hurt by this drug..pharmaceudical companies are too powerful...and Dr are thus not well informed so they prescribe dangerous drugs without even knowing how they can harm their patients...

I was prescribed Questran for high cholesterol. However, a few months after starting it, I began to develop severe constipation. I reported it but was told that this was probably not a side effect of Questran. After taking it for six months, I stopped on my own as the constipatin became very severe. Also, my blood tests showed a huge rise in triglycerides and my triglycerides had always been low. Even though I had stopped this drug, I still developed obstipation and had to be admitted but the doctors diagnosed me as having an eating disorder (I had become emaciated) and discharged me). However, a few months later I had humongous pain and an x-ray showed blockage in the colon. I had to be re-admitted on an urgent basis and 2/3 of my colon had to be removed. I was told that I might have to have an ostomy bag but this thankfully ended up not to be the case. I am completely recovered now and take statins for high cholesterol. So, my advice is NEVER TAKE QUESTRAN FOR HIGH CHOLESTEROL no matter what your doctor says!!

I was given Lisinopril for high blood pressure and was told by my doctor that I could experience a cough. I have not had the cough, but what did encounter was severe constipation. I since stopped taking it and the constipation is gone. I rather die of high blood pressure than live with constipation. I'll be asking my doctor to try something different.

I've been taking Desogen for 8 months. I don't like it. The major side-effect I've had with this medicine is severe constipation and abdominal cramps. Usually the week before my period is the WORST! I've been stuck in the bathroom for 2 hours at a time. Not good! Also I have no sex drive. And during my period I've noticed the menstrual cramps are very painful and the bleeding is heavier than with other birth control I've taken. I think LoOvaral is the best birth control I've used so far. Ortho-tricyclen is okay too, but way too expensive.

I was put on Yasmin for only 3 months to treat an ovarian cyst (age 48). After just 3 WEEKS, I experienced leg cramps at night and severe constipation and bloating, despite taking Metamucil 3x a day, eating a high fiber diet with whole grains and lots of fruits and vegetables, increasing fluids, and taking an herbal laxative tea. I went off it immediately before I developed any other negative side effects.

I tried Yasmin for about 4 months last year, after being on Ortho for years. My doctor prescribed it after I mentioned weight gain (about 5 lbs) on Ortho. While on Yasmine I started having serious stomach issues including severe constipation and stomach aches, to the extent that even over-the-counter laxitives did not help and I was very uncomfortable. Once I woke up in the middle of the night with servere stomach cramps and sweats to the point that I was doubled up on the floor for an hour. At the time, I did not realize that it could be connected with Yasmin. I also was not feeling myself emotionally; I was quick to get upset and felt pretty down. Finally, my skin was worse than it had been on Ortho, and I did not lose the weight. The positive was that I had very short and light periods (probably only a day or two).

I had total loss of appetite and a constant headache when I first start Mobic but those side effects have subsided. I have pretty severe constipation and feel dehydrated frequently. My face has broken out (I'm 44) and I have frequent vaginal bleeding. Not heavy bleeding, but often. Joint-wise - I feel TONS better so I'm hoping that these side effect subside like the loss of appetite and headache did.

I am into my 6th day of taking 500mgs a day. The first day my calves tightened up-felt like I'd been exercising too hard. My mouth has been dry, and now the bones in my hands ache and I have a fever. Today was spent over the sink barfing, or rather, trying to. I have heartburn/acid reflux that keeps gagging me. Feels like someone punched me in the chest and then set it on fire. I haven't been able to eat anything since yesterday because it just sits in my throat and then comes right back up. I also wasn't expecting severe constipation, as the other antibiotics had given me diarrhea. I'm glad I found this site because none of the literature mentions any of these side effects, and my doctor said there were no side effects. I was prescribed for pneumonia/bronchitis/sinus infection, and after the first day I was impressed because the lung pain and coughing had lessened considerably, my head stopped hurting and I could breathe. I didn't think much of these symptoms, even though they were new, because I was told there were none. I attributed them to the fact that I have Epstein-Barr. Now my guess would be they are directly related to the medication. I'm glad I found that other people have had these reactions, too.

I have been on Advair for about a year, within the year i have had gallbladder renoval, gum infections, severe constipation, severe menstrual cramps and recently hyperthyroidism. Coincidence? I will be weaning my self of this poison soon. My asthma is better but my body seems to be falling apart.

I've been on the pill for the past 6 months and this past month, my breasts have suddenly become unusually large and sensitive. Also, I came on twice in my last cycle - which has never happened before. I'm not sure if this is a side-effect (breast tenderness & size) or if I'm pregnant. I've also experienced a number of the other signs of pregnancy, but I'm not sure if this is my mind playing tricks on me. I've been in a serious relationship for about two years and I'm currently studying... so I'm really hoping I dont have anything to worry about - no babies on the way. This site is really a great help and my thanks goes out to everyone that has posted comments -- they have really reassured me about all the other side-effects I've experienced these past few months. As for the other side effects over the past few months on Yasmin - sore breasts, weight fluctuation, very painful periods at times, lack of libido, vaginal dryness, severe constipation (only once), head-aches, dizziness, nausea, extreme mood swings, excessive hunger at times, and many others.

I suppose most of my side effects are the same as those listed below. I've been on Ovcon for 2 months after my doctor switched me from Yasmin for no reason at all! I had no problem with Yasmin! With Ovcon, I've had 6 full periods. By full, I mean, 11 day long periods followed by 10 days of relief, then another full 7 day period. It's awful. I've had horrible mood swings, bloating, cramping, and the last week of medicated pills, severe constipation.
This is an evil drug and I'm switching as soon as possible, hopefully back to Yasmin!

I have been taking 30 mg. of oxy., 3X daily for over 2.5 yrs. I hate this stuff but I don't believe I could live through the back pain without it. I have severe constipation problems, weak/tired all the time, and my stomach is a mess. I can't eat anything like I use to, nor does the food taste as good. I would like to get off this stuff but the withdrawals are so bad that I sweet, my nerves are shot, and I really get angry at the slightes things. What can a person do? Your comments are appreciated.

I am about 8 weeks pregnant and was prescribed Zofran by my ob/gyn for severe nausea. I bragged on the drug after the 1st dose because I felt wonderful. I was prescribed every 8 hours as needed. The first pill I took on a Tuesday night, the second on Thursday night when I developed severe motion sickness, the third on Friday (by then I could not stand to move around). By Monday of the next week I felt as if I was going to explode. I was extremely miserable. I realized that I felt worse after the Zofran because of severe constipation. I felt as if everything I had eaten for the last week was just sitting in my stomach. I had nausea, dizziness, headaches, indigestion w/reflux, excessive gas and bloating, and a horrible taste in my mouth. I stopped taking the Zofran and used an enema and prune juice to clear my system. Some how, compare to how the Zofran made me feel the nausea doesn't seem so bad!
