I've been using birth control for nearly 8 years now. I've never noticed a major weight gain other then what is normal for a growing girl (14 -22) I gained some weight on my transition from High school to college and I expected to gain a little weight going from unmarried to married (which I did) but I changed to Tri-Sprintec a while ago (sometime after I got married I'm guessing about 8-12 months ago) and over the past year I've put on nearly 80lbs I can admit some of this is probably from working midnights and not eating properly but over the past 4 months I have changed how much I eat (only about 1/2 of what I ate before and I eat more small meals then I did back then) and I stopped drinking coffee and all Sodas but I haven't lost a single pound actually I think I've went up about 10lbs in the last 5 months. I've started exercising (walking, bike riding, and jogging) but still nothing. I'm debating on getting off Tri-Sprintec because of everything I've heard and the fact that all my life i've struggled with my weight but NOTHING like the past year. I've put on 80lbs since I got married and I figured I would put on some but 80lbs in one year... its never been this bad before.

My husband is ticked because my sex drive is down to nothing and this started about the time that I changed pills but at the time I attributed that to stress and job/schedule changes but the more I read everyone else review the more things are starting to click into place.

This pill DOES NOT shorten your period all my other birth controls have shortened it at LEAST 2 days but with this I'm on anywhere from 7-9 days which really kills me. Watch out for this side effect!!!

i have had the mirena for 12 months and my partner says he is able to feel it during sex he says it feels like a sharp stabbing pain so went to the doc and he says its not possible for him to feel it but he says he can and it is really killing our sex life because every time we have sex we have to stop because it is painful for him and for me doc didn't tell me that this would happen, scared about getting it taken out cause it killed getting it put in i thought it would be a hassle free contraception but it has turned out to be a nightmare!!!! has anyone else experienced this?

i had mine put in in feb of 09. my doctor told me it will take 5mins. it took an hour and a half to get it in my cervix. I have been bleeding and in pain ever since. i have come to the conclusion women don't get pregnant with this because they bleed and hurt to bad all the time. I have also been passing extremely large clots. my entire body hurts and i want it out now!!

I"m 28 years old and decided to get the Mirena after having my third baby. I've had it since Feb 08. Since then I've had break-outs all over my body including my neck (who breaks out on their neck! ) on my chest, back, and face, and apart from all that I have been having heavy periods. I thought the Mirena was supposed to give you lighter or no periods at all. My sex drive is fine but I did notice my hair doesn't grow as fast as it used to. I am seriously thinking about getting this removed I can't wear desend clothes because of my break-outs.

I have been on Yasmin off and on for almost 5 years. I was breifly on Yaz for about a year and then switched back to Yasmin. Shortly after I started taking Yasmin I noticed my hair was thinning. Everyone seemed to think that I was crazy so I just ignored it. Over time it has gotten worse and worse and now I am an absolute wreck over this. I have never really had thick hair so now it is thinning out to where you can see my scalp! I went to the Dermatologist about it and they are going to run some blood work but after reading this I think it is the pill. I'm only 22 and I'm going bald! My Dr did say that it could be the pill but she said we have to rule out and other possible causes. I also am fatigued and require a lot of sleep. I am depressed and I don't even feel like I'm worthy to leave the house anymore. I haven't gained any enormous amounts of weight but I am bloated and insecure about it. Also, every time I take this pill I become extremely nauseated an hour or so after taking it. It's so bad that I've started to take the pill just before bed so I will be asleep before the nausea kicks in. I have had no sex drive at all since taking this pill. After reading this I am afraid that if I stop taking the pill I will lose even more of what little hair I have left. I don't know what to do!

I just recently had the mirena iud inserted. Oct 30 2008. 3 months after having my first child under a normal vaginal delivery. When I have asked my doctor regarding any side affects he stated that women may have heavy bleeding the first 6 months/ and that after those 6 months that your periods will actually disappear.

The first week that I had the mirena in, I began bleeding almost instantly. Blood clots the size of my closed fist came out of my body from the uterine wall I suppose. I went through a super tampon/ and a pad in an hour and a half. ( I am one of those women who normally use a super tampon maybe once in a while/ normally a reg. size does the job) This bleeding has not stopped since the mirena was inserted.

Looking at a computer screen is part of my daily routine at work. It seems as though my eyes feel blurry through out the day as I am working. Towards the end of the day I can barely stand to look at it. This has never happened to me before. It is almost like I want to turn all lights off and sit in the dark, with no noise(headaches).

Of course sex drive is at the all time low. Who is in the mood to go for it when you are bleeding with a terrible headache?

The first few nights I had a horrible time falling asleep and staying asleep.

Well... at this point I have had headaches... all day for a week now. My head hurts like someone is pounding it against a wall. I have not had a headache in years. My stomach has been upset/ feeling as though I may have to throw up.

I am afraid that I may start seeing the other symptoms that ladies have talked about.
When you had the symptoms did they all happen at once or one at a time over different time periods?

I have been on the NR for 5 months now. I have been so moody it is driving me and my boyfriend crazy. I talked to a friend that said she felt that way when she got on the pill but that after 4 or 5 months her moods evened out. I am wondering if I should try to stay on the NR for a little longer to see if my moods even out or if I should get off it? Is there any chance that the pill would work better for me? I would love any replies. Thanks

I was put on Zoloft 4 months ago to help me deal with the stress and trauma I went through caring for my dieing mother while I was pregnant with my 5th child.

However it has just about killed my marriage. I think it's great, I feel better able to cope with things, I don't feel that overwhelming feeling of losing control and wanting to run away from my children and husband. I thought it killed my sex drive too but since i've been on zoloft I have started having sleep sex which is not good. If it was my husband I was having it with it would probably be ok, but it is with myself and it is causing major problems. I have no recollection of any of the instances, and it has increased when I upped my dose from 50mg to 100mg. I had told my husband for ages that I had no desire for sex whatsoever but lay next to him every night having sex with myself. Now I am extremely embarrassed and ashamed and feel alienated as I have no one I feel comfortable in sharing this with. I can only hope that my husband loves me enough to stick with me and support me through this while I come off the drug. If I had of known before hand I would never have gone on it.

Wow... I'm not going crazy!!! My doc put me on Yazmin about a year ago to help regulate my moods. At first it wasn't bad. I lost weight, which was GREAT! But the past several months I've been miserable and didn't know why until now. I haven't slept throught the night in so long, I get really bad headaches, severe lower back pain, NO SEXDRIVE whatsoever ( used to have a really high sex drive), and extreme irratability and fatigue. I've experienced PMS symptoms that I never knew existed, sometimes for 3 weeks out of the month. i'm so glad I decided to google and found this page. I will definitely go off this pill at the end of my pack and see my doctor about going back on Marvelon, which i don't think I had any major problems with before. I will keep you posted!!!

I've been on nuvaring for over a year. At first, after having kids, me and my husband decide to wait until we have more. My GYNO recommended NUVARING, I've never used any other birth controlls before, because of the side effects.
The thought of controlling ur own period and its 99.9% safe. We get started.
The first week of having it in, I felt like I was in another person's body. It felt so strange and unusual.
I called her to request something else, she said these side effects will go away after 3 months.
DID I MENTION ITS BEEN OVER A YEAR???? Still waiting for the side effects to go away.
BUT now that I'm reading these effects, I know I;m not crazy after all.
I'm always feeling DEPRESSED, suicidal thoughts.
Trouble sleeping, and when I gets up in the morning, I feel like I'm pregnant with MORNING SICKNESS.
UPPER RESP. INFECTION. (thick mucus off my chest in the mornings, alot of runny nose, flu like symptoms). My doctor prescribe antibiotics.
CRYING for no apparant reason.
SEVERE HEADACHES.
BREAST TENDERNESS.
SENSITIVE TO LIGHTS. My husband do all the driving at nights, just to be on the safe side.
MOOD SWINGS that I just cant control, and blaming my husband for everything. Which cause arguments and searartions.
Discomfort during and burning sensation after sex.
Me and my husband were very sexual, atleast 12 times a week, NOW he'll be very lucky if he gets it twice. This NR definately decrease your sexdrive by 100%.
I have severe cramping and burning sensation/indesgestion in my stomach. My doctor says I have ACID REFLUX, AND prescribe PREVACID.
And the main thing, is the yeast infestion. I'm 25yr and I've never had a burning itch or skin irritations in my groins until I went on NR.
I'm still having vaginal discharge and after removing the ring after having it in for 3weeks, on my fourth week, I have a brownish discharge before my period.

I love the ring, but the side effects are CRAZY and they don't just go away after 3 months, as what people would say. I have an appointment with my GYN to get off NR. I'm just gonna stick to non harmonal contraceptives. Hope it works for you.
The good thing is, it increases my bust size..:-).
Good Luck

I am so glad I found this site. I just go finished crying about my lack of sex drive with my BF. He is very dissapointed and I tyring to ensure him that it is this darn Apri. I have been on the pill for a little less than a year. I have NO sexdrive what so ever and come to think of it, I really can sympathize with the mood swings. I just don't feel like myself. I need to get me a OB/GYN appt. pronto. I tried to stop taking the pill but my period was so heavy I had to get back on.

i had been taking prednisone for a couple months for migraines before i told my doctor i didnt want to take it anymore. i had terrible mood swings, from depression to extreme joy. i would take it out on even my closest loved ones. my sexdrive also started to swing violently. i also had a swolen face and i bruised a lot easier. my blood was also a lot thinner. even when i cut myself shaving it would bleed for a half hour. i also became very tired and i couldnt concentrate. it helped my headaches though

Hello Ladies,

This is an update to my post from April 21 #5317. After calling my Gyn, she immediatly took me off Yasmin and put me on Othro Tri Cyclen Lo without me even having to go in. Within the first few DAYS of being off Yasmin, I was nearly 100% better. My sexdrive came back, I started SMILING again! I don't fall asleep in the middle of the day and I'm actually getting up before 2pm on my days off. I'm no longer depressed at all, I have the energy to work out and I am back to feeling like myself again. I haven't broken out at all or had headaches or been nautious. Now that's what I call a miracle.

It's been almost 2 months now and I am so much happier. Granted, I had some side-effects when starting the new pill, but I'll take a little heartburn over near-suicidal bouts of depression any day of the week! I just wanted to update to let you all know not to let this evil product scare you off of all forms of the pill. Yasmin is the problem, not you, and there's plenty out there to try that will not suck the life blood out of you.

Be well, Ladies!
