I am 16 years old, and I am on my second week of YAZ. I do not recommend this product to ANYONE. I am aware of the fact peoples bodies react differently to different doses of hormone, I am also aware you should give it some time for your body to acclimate to new drugs, but what i have been experiencing is close to unbearable. I went on the pill to end my terrible periods. They would be extremely irregular, i would have cramps so bad i would have to miss school, and i would have severe clotting (most likely due to laying down during my menstrual cycle.), and to clear up my acne. As promised, my skin is clearing up nicely. Although on the worse end,I have never had a migraine in my life and i have had one for almost 3 days now! Since i have started YAZ i have been on my period for the past two weeks, and it shows no signs of stopping soon. Also, I have had zero sexual drive since i have began YAZ, and as a sixteen year old girl I know for a fact that it is NOT normal by any means. I have always been a naturally thin girl, now i cant eat enough, and i am gaining weight on my stomach and thighs, which is making me extremely self conscious. Anyone who has taken the time to read this, thank you.I am just trying to warn girls my age about what might be in store for them if they begin this pill, and seriously consider if it is worth these side effects.

Yes, I have been taking Vytorin 10/40 for about 10 months, and it did reduce my cholesterol and triglycerides to 'normal', however, I slowly developed (initially) some 3 months back, problems in my left solder, diagnosed eventually as 'rotator cuff' ligament damage, however, it came on slowly and progressively worsened. I had not done anything strenuous to develop such a condition. It became so bad that I was basically redd to using my right arm. On top of this, the muscles in my lower arms became sore and felt strained even lifting a glass of water was painful. My Doctor was informed of increasing on-going muscle problems, did an emzine muscle test, which turned out to be 'clear'. And I also lost my sexual drive gradually.
I went off taking Vytorin a week ago on my own gut feeling, and my arm muscles and left shoulder have improved. I am also hoping no permanent damage. I am moving to a much higher exercise regime to 'burn' cholesterol and reduce triglycerides, and in the mean time look for 'natural' solutions as well.
I am not impressed with the medical responses I got, along with miss-diagnosed muscle / tendon supposed 'rotator cuff' serious problem that developed in my left shoulder, which I suspect may never be the same functionally. I recommend looking at other alternatives and natural remedies, this is my course of action. MM

Well I thought I was going crazy and needed to see a Psychiatrist but after reading all these other side effects that NuvaRing does not list on their label I know I am not going crazy. My side effects are as follow: extreme headaches at times, one was so severe I seeked medical attention because it felt like a stroke; stomach pains, depression, INSOMNIA (Tylenol PM helps; but who wants to become addicted to sleep meds), decrease sexual drive, and crying for no reason. So after all of this I have one more week until my cycle and I am retiring the NR. After all, I can find something more economical like the pill to cope with rather than that $35.00 I was spending on my Rx.

I have experienced a gradual decrease in my sex drive and occasional swelling of the lower legs and ankle over the last two years. It was subtle, so I made no connection to Nifedipine or Diovan. I am an African American male and this was recommended by my doctor to be good for my sexual drive and my ethnicity. She is either grossly misinformed or not particularly concerned so long as my B/P remains down.

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives that don't make you have the libido of a six year old?

I am 30 years old and have been put on Depo Lupron after a laproscopy to help with endometriosis. I am 2 months into a 6 month course (one shot every 3 months) of Depo Lupron and my life has drastically changed. I started feeling life altering hot flashes and night sweats two days after the first shot and nearly drown myself in sweat 24 hours a day. I experienced a little postpardum depression after giving birth 6 years ago but have found myself sunk into a sinking hole of depression and anger like I've never felt before. I bawl at McDonald's commercials and become enraged if the dishwasher isn't loaded properly! I am ecstatic one minute and severely depressed the next. I have even had thought of suicide since being on this shot. I am normally a very outgoing, athletic, cheerful, happy person - but since taking this shot, I have become a stanger in my own head. I tell my family all the time that I need to "go stick my head in the freezer" to cool off because of the horrific hot flashes. I have to carry a handheld fan with me 24 hours a day and sleep with ice packs to keep cool. Since the shot started 2 months ago, I have lost all sexual drive, am thoroughly exhausted by 9am and find myself crying at my desk at work by late afternoon because I am so tired. My family thinks I am going crazy and I've never fought more with my husband. My daughter has gone to grandma's for awhile because I'm just so tired and irritable that I feel like an awful mother. Migraines have also come full circle since the onset of the shot as well as blurred vision and shaky hands. I'm a little achy throughout the as well. I know that everyone responds to medication differently, but I'm finding a lot of people with the same side effects as myself and have to wonder why the doctors don't warn patients about these types of problems before prescribing medications such as Depo Lupron. I don't think I'll be going back for the second shot. Could it get any worse?

LADIES, I'M HAPPY I'VE FOUND THIS SITE JUST RIGHT BEFORE I TAKE YASMIN. WOW WHAT A RELIEF. OKAY, HERE'S THE BEST ADVICE I COULD GIVE. I'VE TAKEN THIS CONTRACEPTIVE PILL FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND THE ONLY SIDE EFFECTS ARE: HAD MORE FACIAL HAIR BUT IT'LL GO AWAY EVENTUALLY. A LITTLE NAUSEA--JUST A LITTLE. A LITTLE INCREASE IN APPETITE BUT NO WEIGHT GAIN IN THE FIRST YEAR(I GAINED WEIGHT AFTER MY SECOND YEAR). A LITTLE DECREASE IN SEXUAL DRIVE, BUT NO PALPITATIONS, NO MAJOR SIDE EFFECTS. HERE'S THE BEST PART. THE BENEFITS: VERY CLEAR SKIN. TAKE NOT, VERY VERY CLEAR. THE COMPLEXION IMPROVES AS WELL. MY DRY SKIN ON ELBOWS GOT BETTER(I THINK). BREASTS BECOMES FULLER. THE NAME OF THE PILL IS DIANE35. IT'S WORTH A TRY. AGAIN, I THOUGHT WITH YASMIN I COULD LOSE SOME WEIGHT BUT WOW THESE SIDE EFFECTS THAT YOU LADIES HAVE SAID ARE NOT WORTH IT! TNX

Where to start! I started Yasmin in Sept. of 2005. So I've been on it 2 and a half years. Things were fine for a while. It did what it was supposed to do, including no weight gain. That's how its been marketed here, so that's why i got it. Nothing has happened all of a sudden. Its all creeped up on me very slowly. Headaches, pressure in my sinuses, tiredness...all pretty simple. But here's the thing. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and put on Prozac. The Prozac didnt help. I came off it. Now here's the more troubling symptoms I've experienced. Heart Palpitations, squeezing in my chest making it hard to breathe, increased fear and anxiety (which cause heart attack-like symptoms which can more commonly be described as a panic attack). I've had my finger on the 911 buttons several times in the last 8 months. Now I'm discovering the joy of incontinence. Do you have any idea what its like to be in the store buying groceries and then all of a sudden there's a puddle of number 2 around your shoe? I do. I'm 23. Abdominal pain, stomach distension, constipation followed by diarrhea. Hair loss. Cold feet. LOSS OF SEXUAL DRIVE! My God!

I've said all this to my doctor. He ran blood for everything, there's nothing wrong with me medically. X-rays, mri's, cat scans, ekg's. Nothing nothing nothing. I changed doctors and told the new doctor my story. He figures that because i was put on Prozac for depression, that I must have developed Hypochondria (aka extreme paranoia and a belief that I'm terminally ill). Not true, I know its not terminal, i just need to be put on a new pill. My husband and I have regular sex, he's allergic to latex, and even those non-latex condoms. We're not ready for babies yet, so I dont know what to do. But if this helps someone else, then taking the time to write this was worth it. And as a side note, if you're on the pill and have the choice, and your doc wants to put you on prozac...Don't do it. Try switching your pill first.

hi board:
I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in....
I went on NuvaRing about 3 weeks ago. Immediately (!?!?!) I began sleeping about 13 hours a day (10 hours per night, with a 3 hour nap every afternoon). I have NEVER been a napper, and I never have needed more than 7.5 hours a night. Additionally, everything seemed a bit off-- on three occasions I got into weird funky mood swings and rearranged all of the furniture in my house. (again, this isn't really me). Appetite increase, for sure, and the gas was just nearly. Decreased sexual drive.... I usually am a sex fiend, and I actually passed up sex once.
On the flip side, it sure was easy! And, no dryness or itchiness or anything.
Anyways, not for me. I think I am going to try Yaz.
I hope you all have better luck than I do!
(ps-- to those who worry about online fora: I am not crazy. Just a happy law student trying to avoid an untimely pregnancy....)

I've been on Loestrin for over a year now, its been okay, I did the patch before and that was a NIGHTMARE! So I switched to Loestrin and since then i have developed horrible migraines, my doctor has given me an MRI for it. I actually never thought that my birth control might be causing this until I've read some of the postings up. I am also going on my third month with no cycle, I get very worried because, to me, thats not natural. A woman should get her period and I do not want to take something thats going to mess with that. I originally started taking it for the lighter periods because heavy periods run in my family.

I also have been experiencing mood swings and being depressed, but like before i never thought it had anything to do with my birth control. Its effecting my relationship with my boyfriend big time. Also lost of sexual drive, and thats annoying. Does anyone know of a birth control PILL that doesn't have so many horrible side effects. This is a freaking nightmare

It has been mostly good. I was diagnosed with RLS and CFS, Chronic Fatigue. It has removed most of my aches and tiredness. I have to devote 10+ hrs to sleep a night though. It has limited my sexual drive, where it is almost non existent. A small price to pay for my overall well being and more energy.

WOW!!! Thank you ladies for posting your discomforts, I know now I am not going crazy. I wish I would have done my homework on Mirena i.e. reading comments that have been posted instead of solely relying on the packet I received from my gyn. I had the Mirena inserted about 2 weeks ago, and I have an appointment for January to take this thing out! It was very irritated from the start(right after the procedure was done) but was told that was to be expected; it hasn't gotten better =( Whenever I jog it irritates and bothers to the point that I have to stop; when I move my bowels (which my gyn said it was in my head >: -( ) also irritates...I get really bad headaches...I am a mother of 4 I can't afford to have discomforts! Also no sexual drive whatsoever! I am very sad because I have tried every form of birth control there is (short of the shot) and nothing seems to work with my body =( .

I went on NuvaRing because it was suggested by my dr and mom who was an rn. I though nothing of it. I noticed a week before my wedding i was more tired then usal and moddy. The night before my wedding i thought i couldnt sleep because of excitement but no i was so tired that i fell right a sleep. The day of the wedding i was really moody i thought everything was going wrong and every little thing made me cry. The night of the wedding was terrible because i was really tired and i didnt want to do anything. no sexual drive. But after a fight with my new husband i gave in and did what anyone did on the wedding night. On the honey moon i was really moody, pernoid, tired, felt mersible, and i didnt want to have sex at all with my husband whom i love. my husband knew something was up. but we couldnt figure it out. when i was off it for my period i felt calmer and happier but as soon as i got back on it my husband and i would fight over the stupidest things, things that usaly didnt bother me. we hardly had sex and it hurt him. my roomates even noticed that i was acting different. then a couple days ago i noticed tenderness in my breast, dizzness falling over once in a while, and not wanting to talk , i wanted to be alone, and i was talking about an anulment for our marriege. I thought i was just getting a cold because i felt really sick.. but then when i woke up this morning and i could not feel my husband kiss my neck, pinch my neck or arm, i felt numb all over and my husband was getting worried we looked up the side affects and we both noticed right away this is what was happening. we took it out right away and im feeling much better. other then feeling irritated at my dr for not telling me the side effects.
I would not recomend this to anyone.

Hello,

I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

I have been taking winney on and off for 2 years and always see great results. The first week of my cycle is the best! An increase in sexual drive in the bedroom generates a major pounding to my girlfriend. She is not privy to my use but feels the side effects of winney. I never promote but I have huge C!@# and have never had a problem getting it up.

Hello, I am in the middle of my 2nd month on Yasmin. I switched to Yasmin from Orthrotricyclen-lo, since that pill made me feel unpredictably angry, edgy and depressed, along with other negative side effects. Overall, i feel much better now. My moods and body have stabilized. I had some side effects the 1st month which were, stomach cramping, bloating and a headache or two, but now those have gone away. My only concern is that now, my libido has decreased quite a bit and i know this is not me, but the yasmin. If i still feel like this by the end of the 3rd month i will most likely go off the pill all together because this isnt worth being on if i dont have normal a sexual drive, like i used to.

I have been taking Toprol XL 25mg for about 10 months. I had triple bypass surgery. The only things I have notice is less sexual drive, trouble sleeping between 3 am and 5:30 am, and trouble staying awake between 11 am and 3 pm. My blood pressure stays around 100/55 avg and pulse around 70.

Memory loss, Low Folic Acid level, persist cough, mussle loss, weight gain, twinges in my chest, light headedness, lower sexual drive. I never knew the side effects nor related these side effects to toprol before. I just thought I was experiencing the effects of getting older, but I'm only 47.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that has been having side effects with the Nuvaring. My doctor put me on it to help with my Periods. I was going 4-5 months without a period and then getting a major one. I have been on the Nuvaring now for like 2 1/2 months. I have no sexual drive (poor hubby); depression; dizziness (no fainting though); major stomach pains/cramps; minor headaches and just feeling majorly crappy. As of right now on Wednesday I will have my Period for two weeks straight. I can't deal with this. I am calling the doctor either tomorrow or Wednesday and saying I would rather go back to the way I was then feel the way I do now. I am just oh so glad that I am not alone. Thanks for sharing your stories.

Re: Lisinopril Side Effect
I've been on lisinopril for about 4 years. Started at 20mg for about 2 years then moved up to 40mg for about the last year. I've had some of the side effects described here however I've manage to counteract them by taking men's health vitamins and health food concoctions made with zinc, pumpkin seed oil, damiana, fish oil and others. My surprise is that I didn't know that I was taking a large dosage of lisinopril. That explains my loss of sexual drive, loss of hair. I can see now that I was masking the problem by taking the vitamin concoctions. My next step is to research the various BP meds and make up a list of those with the least side affects. I can hardly wait to see my doc again. My best advise to this forum is to not put up with the know it all attitude of your doc. You make up your own list and demand that your doc LISTEN TO YOU! And if you have to, replace him/ her with one that will listen. Years ago my doc convinced me that there was no difference between generic and brand name. Bad move on my part. I've learned to be hard nosed when it comes to docs and I've found that they respond well when they have to deal with an angry patient. Time to kick butt and take names!

to Murph70,

Are you serious that you were almost blind? Strange how the more I think about all of this and the things that occurred during those 2.5 years, the more realize how much was linked to taking Yasmin. This is crazy. I read through so many of these emails and I too was advised by both the prescribing doctor as well as an RN that Yasmin could not be responsible for the symptoms I was experiencing. Makes me absolutely nuts that this is happening to so many women, being advertised so heavily and that people in the medical field prescribing it are unaware and discounting.

Can anyone advise what treatment has been the most effective for coming off of Yasmin? Ive been off now for two month. I still have alot of pressure in both ears and interestingly noticed several people who advised they had colds coming off of it. I got really sick immediately following coming off it with someone that took me two months to get rid of. Then, after two weeks, I just got another cold. I've never been sick like this!

It occurred to me that it could well likely be due to how the increased potassium levels or changes to the electrolytes have effected the immune system? Anyone else had this experience?

While I can't say I noticed a change in sexual drive (except I will likely notice that more as I am off of it for longer), did notice I was exhausted all the time. ALL THE TIME. I would shower in the morning and then want to go right to bed. It depleted me and all my energy. And like some other people, lost interest in everything I enjoyed.

I've never been able to find vitamins that I could take that didn't make me feel kinda sick. How much magnesium is recommended? Any particular type of vitamin recommended?

I had been on Yasmin for the past year and a half. At first when I went on it, I got severe GI upsets, running to the bathroom every 5-10 minutes. Then, my appetite and cravings picked up and now a year and a half later I have gained 15 lbs! My face was swollen, had no energy, very unmotivated to do anything, and a little bit of exercise wore me out! I also had loss of sexual drive! Guess I did not realize all this was happening while I was on it. I went of because of the bloating/weight gain and irregular periods ( I was not having any- just some spotting). I went off this past month and I immediately lost a lot of water weight! I also feel more energetic, and a lot less cravings for junk food! Wow, and my legs are not tingly anymore! What a change so far and it has only been 2 weeks!

i suspect the lack of sexual drive and full hard erection is due to atenolol--same class/family of drugs as toprol w/c is a beta blocker. i was also on toprol for a brief period but when it started to cause anxiety, nightmares, depression, and lack of libido...i told my doc and was switched to something better. if one doc doesn't care or listen to your symptoms, it's time to find another one that does...so that's good you're going to a different doctor. a good physician will work with you and try other hbp medications that will control the bp and have the least bothersome or damaging effect.
