I posted a couple of days ago about the hair loss I've experienced with Welbutrin and I have since went out and bought the GMC Ultra Nourish Hair since it's been recommended from those on this site. I also stopped the Wellbutrin last week (by slowly winging myself off) and I've actually lost MORE hair. It's all over the place when I shower and style and I have bald spots on my scalp (it's thinning evenly)...which is sad for a 29 year old woman (or for any of us experiencing this). I was hoping to hear back from anyone who has had this experience and stopped Wellbutrin. How long did it take for the hair loss to stop and for the hair to grow back? Will it grow back? It's so upsetting to shower and style my hair anymore because I lose so much.

Also, I wondered if anyone used any shampoo that helped? I did go to a Dermatologist and she said that I had Dermatitis and prescribed a shampoo which isn't working at all. I honestly think it's the Wellbutrin.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks so much.

So like i just told the lady that thinks this site is a joke, I am happy for her that she hasn't had any negative side effects. For the rest of us though, this site is a blessing. I am a 27 year old with one daughter who is 2 1/2. I got my mirena put in at about my six week check up as well. For me, it took at least a year for me to really notice any symptoms, I guess before I just thought it was new mama syndrome. Now I am losing tons of hair (now when I say tons, no one can tell but me, like when i pull out handfuls when i shampoo or blow dry), I have horrible fatigue, depression that i am taking medicine for with little relief, discharge, and about once a month i have horrible pain on my right side about where my ovary is. Oh and not to mention no sex drive, which is not normal, and moody, moody, moody.

So my point pretty much is that I am a REAL WOMAN, not someone paid by a drug company, and I was looking for answers. Maybe the lady that is posting nastiest about this site is paid by Mirena? Hmmmm.....

Hi, I am new at this, I have been so frustrated. I too was told this was the best thing out there, and the benefits looked great so I got the IUD Mirena inserted. Cramping when I first got it for a few days then nothing for a while. Seemed ok, then one day I noticed my hair was thinning then more and more. So I made a appt with my gyno and she said basically it was in my head. I also mentioned a memory issue, kinda foggy feeling. She dismissed me and ushered me out by wave of her hand. I then go to a dermatologist to see if there was something there, maybe a sign something was definitely wrong. He noticed it was profuse and in the back of my head. He had my blood checked for vitamin deficiency and my thyroid, came back normal. Told me it looked like a pelican and had me use Rogaine and special shampoo and biotin. He also told me of an option to do a biopsy, which scared me. I waited a few weeks and decided to do it. It came back normal, no hereditary or any other abnormalities. He suggested removing IUD. I talked to him once more to see if anything else can be tested, he sent me to an endocrinologist. Did another blood test and all normal. He also did thyroid all over again. By this time, I was devastated. I felt hopeless. I was still thinking it wasn't possible. That’s when I hoped online and saw so much more others had the same problem!! I couldn’t believe my eyes! I am 32 and had this damn thing in me for a year and a half. I only wished I would of taken it out by that same doctor who told me was all in my head. It would of saved me so much aggravation. Mind you I was feeling a bit depressed and I noticed I was uptight and yelled at the kids a lot. The good news in all of this, I had it removed today and again they tried to talk me out of it. I told her, if I didn't have all these tests done, I would probably kept it in. I did my share of making sure nothing else was wrong with me. I even talked to my regular doctor and had a heart to heart; he explained everything that the others would not, including lab results. I am hoping that my hair will come back. I love my Dad, I just don't want to look like him....

Does anyone now how long the hormones stay in your body and how long till hair will stop falling out?

I had open heart surgery August 23rd 2006 for a conginital heart defeat (Aortic Valve replaced with mechanical St Jude valve). I wanted a bio valve but Drs insisted I should have the mechanical valve because of my age (45 at the time).

Prior to my heart surgery I was a performer, singer/songwriter/actress/comedianne and I loved what I did. It was my life. Now, after 2+ years post-op and on Warfarin (7.5 mg daily for life) I feel like life has ended and I'm just a walking dead person. The effects I feel daily are as follows...

Dizziness
Severe Headaches
Blurred vision
Memory Loss
Fatigue
Weight Gain
Trouble concentating
Fluttering effect in my head/ears- Hard to explain
Hair loss
Unexplained pains in chest & left side of my body
Unable to sleep well
Tiredness- even when I've done nothing to be tired for
Nausea
Gas & Diarrhea off and on
teeth pain- Like I've drank something very cold
feeling in my head similar to a brain freeze- like you ate ice cream too fast
Night bleeds in my month- wake up with a mouth full of blood daily
What do think, is that enough??

I'm going in tomorrow for a cat scan because the headaches have been so bad they feel I need to be checked for brain tumor and/or internal bleeding. When I tell the Drs I think this is due to Wafarin they pratically laugh in my face as if to say, "Silly silly woman, don't be foolish! We know whats best for you. Remember, we saved your life!" Really? Did you?!

I want nothing more than to get off this rat poison and regain my life, but to do so could mean a stroke or heart attack. I would go under the knife again to have the mechanical valve removed and replaced with a biological valve, but do you think my insurance company (Kieser) would pay for a "silly" thing like that? Right!

Welcome to the greatest country in the world!

I'm going to start a website to help people like us. I want your stories, please send me your info, together we might make a change, what can it hurt to try? Email me ******

Hi Everyone,
My experience with Mirena is still causing me distress, and I had it taken out on 9/1/08. I've been Mirena free for 5 months now, and still waiting for my hair to grow back. I do see some small, short hairs around my hairline, and I'm hoping that it's growing back, but maybe it's breakage? Any thoughts?
Here's my story: I have always had very heavy periods, so after one botched ablation two years ago, my doctor suggested Mirena. I had it placed in June, 2008. Almost exactly 3 months later, I figured out why my hair was falling out. Every time I brushed my teeth, I noticed how thin my hair had suddenly become. You could see each individual hair from the front of my hairline backward about 2 inches - each individual hair surrounded by lots of space! There was hair loss at the temples as well. I had my thyroid checked first, because my mother has a thyroid problem. My bloodwork was fine. I thought maybe my last highlight/foil might have caused it...but it was not breakage, it was an all-over thinning out. I finally realized that the only thing different was the Mirena, so I insisted it come out immediately. My doctor told me that at 45, I should expect thinning hair, which was probably the cause, not the Mirena. I told him to JUST GET IT OUT!
I really wish I had researched the matter beforehand, but am thankful that I put two-and-two together in a matter of months.
If anyone else has experienced hair loss, please post. We have to get the word out!

I have been asked about my Wellbutrin experience by another member and want to post my answer to the group in case it is helpful to others. I originally posted some of this information earlier in the year. Here is my answer.......

It is the most difficult drug reaction I have ever faced but slowly the hair started growing back. It may not be quite as it was before (I have always had fine thin hair but I did have hair!!!) but it is so much better than when I finally realized what was happening to me while I was on the meds. The top of my head and temples had thinned alarmingly. I have been off of Wellbutrin since March 2008 and the regrowth started within a few months time. It is a slow process but at least you can feel hopeful when it begins.

Be sure to take the Biotin available from health food stores and shampoo and condition with Nioxin products and use the foam treatment every day no matter how tiresome it seems. I went with the starter kit. See description for products at http://www.folica.com/brands/nioxin_183.html

And to help you right now, I can offer this advice. While I was waiting for the regrowth, I used a hairpiece which helped to heal my spirit a little faster. There is also a scalp make-up product called ShaBo that helps to disguise bald spots amazingly well and Bonnie, the inventor, will personally work with you to get just the right color. Check the website for more information.

Best of luck and yes it will get better!

For me having the Mirena removed just last Thursday was the right decision. I was not using it for birth control but as hormone therapy for heavy, crampy periods. I had it inserted in July 2008 and bled every single day for the entire time, I had it removed last week and now I am bleeding very heavily but hopefully that will stop once all those hormones are out of my body.
While on Mirena I lost all sex drive, I became severely anemic and with that fatigued terribly, and moody, crying at nothing and screaming at my kids or husband for stupid reasons, I felt bloated and gassy and didn't have those problems before.
I am 42 years old and I hate my heavy bleeding in fact I want a hysterectomy, but not sure now what I will do.

For those of you who had the Mirena removed, how long did it take to stop bleeding afterwards? This is draining every last ounce of energy for me and I am taking iron supplements.

What sucks is the cost of this, Even with insurance I ended up paying a lot out of pocket to get this thing and then all the Dr. visits due to bleeding and side affects in the 4 months it was in and now the removal of it. I am wondering if there is any way that we can get a Class action lawsuit against Bayer for this horrible thing they are trying to sell to women.
I know there are some out there who have not suffered all these horrible side effects at least not yet or that they are aware of, but I truly believe that there is nothing good about this IUD and those of us and there are a lot of us who have suffered with this should be reimbursed or compensated for the pain and loss of parts of our lives and expenses with this. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I am a type 1 diabetic and was put on the Lisinopril over a year and a half ago, maybe 2 years. I have my hair coming out when I shampoo and the red patchy skin on my lower legs which is dry making it embarrassing to wear shorts or capris. It makes me feel ashamed. I have laid off both the Lisinopril and HCTZ for a few days now. I got blurry vision, and I think it has made me gain weight. I get the swelling of the angles by this or both meds. Before taking these, I didn't have the swelling. I liked reading through the replys here on this medicine or both. I tried to identify some replies with myself and what I am experiencing. I want to get off this crap and take something else if at all "Alternative" at best. I did take atenylol (sp)? before. If anyone wants to contact me, they can e-mail me at ****** because, I would like to see what others are doing differently now to take care of the situation I am going through.

I received my first shot of Gardasil in January 2007. It could have started sooner, but about a month later my hairdresser noticed a bald spot in the back of my head. I rushed back to my ObGyn and asked her if the Gardasil could be the cause as nothing else had recently changed. She said that she had not heard of this, but she referred me to a dermatologist. I asked him if my hair loss had anything to do with the Gardasil. He replied that I had Alopecia areata and one thing had nothing to do with the other. He advised that I continue with the Gardasil and that he would start treating me for the alopecia. I wish that I would not have listened. I don't know what would have happened if I had stopped then, but I didn't I proceeded with the treatment to the end now over half of my head is bald!!!
I don't know what to do. I keep going back to the dermatologist for treatments for the alopecia, but it just keeps getting worse.
If anyone has had a similar experience and would like to share or has found some other treatments that work, please post a reply.

I've been taking Wellbutrin on and off for several years now. It works for me and my depression and doesn't cause weight gain. Unfortunately, a lot of my hair was gone before I researched it and found that this seems common with many users. I stopped taking it for several months and my hair loss pretty much stopped. Some grew back in around my hairline and my head felt better, but not a significant regrowth on my crown. It definitely stopped coming out like it was. The improvement took about 3 months. I started taking it again and within 2 months I noticed that I was again loosing hair. I use Nioxin shampoo which slows it some, but will stop taking it again. In my research I found that some vitamins, scalp massage or yoga where your head is down and you increase blood flow helps. Hair color also helps for several reasons. I found, however, that while on Wellbutrin my scalp was very sensitive and sometimes had a burning sensation. My dose if very low at 75-150 mg per day. What a shame this side effect it is because this is a very effective medication! However, I have no doubt whatsoever that it's causing my hair loss.

After 5 weeks of taking Yaz, I have developed hives, "lobster red" skin and itchiness from my ankles to my knees. The itching is was so bad, I was using a metal hair brush to scratch (I know, not good). It turns out, I'm allergic to Yasmine. Hives is one of the first side effects.

I stopped taking Yaz about 3-4 days ago and the hives went away completely last night (my doctor told me yaz stays in your system 7-10 days).

The doctor also told me, if you do develop hives on this medication, you need emergency help. Hives can spread very very quickly and they can obstruct your airway.

I personally did not go to the emergency room (I didn't know any better), I was able to control them with Benadryl.

I am sad I can no longer take this pill. It was awesome. It took away my appetite, no moodiness, no pms, no weight gain.

:-(

I was on Effexor XR for more than three years. Just calling these symptoms "side effects" doesn't seem powerful enough. The saddest thing is, these are normal, will most likely happen to you, and are for the most part, unpleasant. Consider the following before starting this medication, and if you're on it, listen to what your body is telling you.

Side effects-

Favorite foods.- Forget about 'em. Chances are anything and everything will make you want to vomit. After awhile you won't want to even eat just because it's easier.

Sleep- Everybody likes sleep right? Of course, when you can get it. Should you manage to avoid and/or get past the insomnia, sickness, and dizzy feeling, you'll be visited by nightmares. Vivid, horrible, put the movies to shame kind of nightmares.

Hair- That's right folks, a rare, but noted side effect is hair loss. Head, eyebrows, everywhere. Don't worry it grows back in patches with the help of special shampoo.

Withdraws- Heaven forbid you miss a dose. You'll get to experience your disorder in a whole new way. Too tired to be awake and too shaky to be asleep. Intense migraines accompanied by sickness. (Not just the normal "Hey I feel kinda woozy." sick. The " I can't stand or sit down, I feel like I need to throw up constantly." kinda sick. Shakes get more intense, mood swings are pushing insanity, and paranoia is through the roof.

Paranoia- This is a side effect you get to experience during both regular dosing and withdraws. The walls are closing in, everyone is out to get you, suddenly something you did wrong when you were four comes back to haunt you, and the worst part being.....might as well be real.

Shakes and Brain Tremors- You know that tingling feeling when your foots falls asleep? Imagine that in the middle of your brain. Now, try to focus, read (anything), watch TV, ha ha you can't without it leading to a headache. Holding a pencil used to be such a mundane task, now it's like holding on to a tattoo gun. Squiggle pen drawing anyone?

Memory Loss- We all forget things. Did I lock the door? Where did I put my keys? Try forgetting where you just were, where you work, the phone number of anyone that can help. Effexor XR can cause confusion and effect your short term memory.

I experienced these symptoms for years. It was no picnic.Effexor XR was prescribed to me for depression and mood stabilization. Wondering why I stayed on it so long? It worked. Helped my depression, no more mood swings. I was told the side effects would go away or become less as the drug build up in my system. Yeah, I'm still trying to choke that one down. They didn't stop. Granted, not all of them got worse, but guess what.....When you feel sick physically for so long, you start to, GET DEPRESSED.

There is no reason why anyone should feel both physically and mentally ill. It's life draining, literally. This is not a bashing session. There are the people out there that take Effexor XR no problem. If you're one of them, stick with it. This is your medicinal savor, but if not, GET OFF Effexor XR and keep looking. There are other medications, with less or no side effects. You might have to go through a few, it might be worth it.

Parents, if you adolescent is complaining of any of the drugs more intense side effects, please listen. Effexor XR still isn't "recommended" for anyone under 18. The drug can have serious long term effects in adulthood, even after discontinuation.

Well that was easy, to find out which drug was doing what. I have three new ones. Lisinopril is for HP. My head has been itching and I am using Rogaine, (sorry bald isn't where I want to go right now). Anyhow when I used it my scalp which has already been itching woke me up burning really bad. I rinsed it off but it is still itching as it has been. I'm losing my hair but would like to slow things down until I'm dead:) I'm 55. Don't sleep good but have meds for that. Zolpidem. seems to work ok. took it twice. Have low dose of Lyrika? for pain. Anyhow, real tired, need naps. Muscle aches but I had those before. Well thanks to all who posted. I'm calling the Doc, monday.

I am so glad to see all these postings about Lisinopril! At least I now know that I'm not alone...and maybe I'm not crazy! My hair is falling out by handfuls every time I shampoo it. I thought it was my scalp psoriasis causing it, but now I know what it is! I even wonder now if the Lisinopril has brought on the scalp psoriasis! The weakness in my neck is driving me crazy along with just a general feeling of all-over muscle weakness. Feels like I can't hold my head up all the time! I can't get enough sleep, and feel tired all of the time. My vision is blurry, and I do have some tingling in my arms and fingers. My concentration is shot, so is my memory! I'm quitting this stuff and going to try the diet/exercise routine and see if that does the trick. Never had high blood pressure until I gained this extra 30 lbs. so maybe losing it will put me back where I need to be. Oh! did I mention that just the thought of sex is more than I can take, let alone trying it!

I have been on Warfarin since December 2003 for peripheral vascular disease. I was on the same dosage, 7.5 mg, up until I started seeing a different DR. last year and he upped me to 9.5 mg a day. I noticed I started losing a tremendous amount of hair. Dr put me on prenatal vitamins with no improvement. Hair is very dry and brittle. Have had alot of lightheadedness to the point where I feel I want to pass out but don't, now it affects my driving and work. My head feels like it wants to explode sometimes and have lots of migraines. Anyone else????

post- Yasmin effects: i also had panic attacks when i went off yasmin but they subsided after a week. my apetite is insatiable, but i also run almost every day. has anyone else experienced this?

suggestions- i took these drops of Agnus castus, it's a fruit derivative I think and you can get it at any health food store. it's supposed to regulate your cycle. I dont know if it made a difference but it made me feel better mentally.

Also, for the hair loss- nothing can change that, but I bought this shampoo from Lush called cynthia stout that made my roots "fluffier" adn look less...thin...

sickofbeingsick- i'm off the pill. i'll never go on it again. i practice safe sex and have a prescription for the morning after pill. people liveed without the pill for thousands of years! i completely know how you feel. my only advice is to get off yasmin and rid your body of the craziness asap!! keep us updated pls!

I am a 28 year old female and have been on Singulair for around a year. I was placed on Singulair for allergies and allergy-induced asthma. The major side effect that I have experienced is dramatic hair loss! I'm not talking about a few strands, but hand fulls of hair. It comes out when I shampoo, brush, run my fingers through my hair. I noticed hair all over my clothing, pillow and I could even see it flying around in the air at times. I consulted several doctors and had my hormones and thyroid checked. They were all normal. I started researching hair loss on the internet and came across a hair loss forum. Several people have experienced major hair loss from Singulair! I couldn't believe it! It was not the answer that I was expecting, but I quit the drug immediately. My allergies and asthma flared up for 2 weeks after quitting. My hair is continuing to fall out, but not nearly as dramatic. I hope that it will eventually stop all together.

After reading this website's discussions, I experienced many of the other side effects, but was totally unaware that it could be caused from Singulair. I had anxiety, depression, feelings of rage and out of control emotions. Furthermore, I had the feeling that there was pressure on my chest at times and that it was hard to catch my breath. I too had trouble sleeping.

This just goes to show that you have to educate yourself before taking any Doctor's advice and their "miracle" prescriptions that they are so quick to prescribe!!!

Does levbid cause hives? Four days after starting Levbid I developed hives on scalp, palms of hands, forearms and wrists, in ears and eyes, shoulders and armpits. The first day I had them briefly on my stomach and back. This might be a reaction with shampoo or conditioner but I think the reaction might be a combination with Levbid.

I have been taking lisinopril for almost three years. I have noticed that my hair which is very thick is starting to fall out after a shampoo and other wise. I thought it was because of coloring which does not happen every once in a blue moon. I also noticed that I have dry mouth, feel depressed, and confused at work while doing my job before I took a volunteer lay off. Confused and missing details...focusing was a real problem. Dizziness at times almost afraid to drive or go out due to this problem thinking that I was experiencing sutle anxiety feelings. Sex Drive also none...and do not feel like talking to people much anymore about many things.

This is very strange as I have always been very socialable.

I am 52 years of age and all these symptoms really are mind boggling to say the least.

I am glad to have come to this site. There should be an investigation into this medicine Lisinopril.

I am an active individual and so with all that going on I started to take a supplement of adaptagens.

My mother is taking the med too and has a terrible cough. I think I am going to insist that our doctors take us off the drugs.

I spoke to an acupunturist at the New England School of Acupuncture and they can treat HPD and other dis eases.
