I had Mirena since Sept 2008. All I felt was a slight cramp when it was put in and a minor ache for a few hours afterward. I had some spotting for about 4 days after it and then nothing. Periods got lighter each month but the spotting got longer and longer.

I stumbled across this sight a few days ago when I was wondering if the Mirena could cause weight gain. After reading everyone's experience with it, everything started to come together. I got it 3 months after my daughter was born. I had gained 80 pounds while pregnant and lost 40 within 3 months. I then had that damn IUD put in. I gained it all back. I haven't been able to lose anything after gaining it all back. I have trouble just trying to maintain my weight. This is what I've experienced so far: weight gain, facial hair, cramping, sharp abdominal pains, joint pain, constant exhaustion, mood swings, bloating, tingling sensations, headaches/migraines, 15 days of spotting each month, constant hunger, no sex drive... I've had blood work, tests on my stomach and abdomen, iron infusions... All my doctor was telling me to do is change my diet and exercise when I went about the exhaustion. I've done that and gained 3 more pounds!

It's scheduled to come out December 4th. That day can't come fast enough for me!

Hi everyone, I had Mirena pleased about 2 years ago following my 2nd child. I have been experiencing mood swings, dizziness, nausea, and breast enlargement. I feel as though I am pregnant (which I know is rare). I've been suffering from sharp chest pain at times and sharp abdominal pains. Cardiology testing came back normal. I have no sex drive and feel as though I cant lose the weight gain from pregnancy #2. After pregnancy #1 I was able to lose all the weight in a matter of 10 months without trying. I know that this IUD has more side effects then what the doctors are informing us. It is crucial that any woman that has this IUD report all side effects to their MDs. This way it is documented for future research.

Hello ladies. I have had the Mirena removed now for about 2 months and i feel a lot better. I am not sure if i posted here or another forum but i have experienced terrible side effects from this thing being in my body. my side effects included

painful joints( i felt like a 80 something year old)
lower back pain
Chest pain ( which i still experience on and off now)
numbness on my fingers and toes ( which i still have to some degree)
sharp abdominal pains
extreme anxiety
tired all the time
spasms in my hands and legs especially my left side
headaches and the list can go on and on.

My doctor did not believe the mirena was causing all of this even though i had been a very healthy person with no medical complaints at all before the mirena was inserted.

Did i read somewhere about a class action lawsuit? Because i will definitely look into it for all the suffering this thing has put me through.
Thanks everyone for posting. Information is power!

MY doctor laughed in my face when I expressed my concern with the side effects that I was experiencing. "There are NO side effects" he urged. But still I would get sharp abdominal pains, the cramps were sometimes unbearable, my back broke out in horrible acne and since I've barely had 5 zits in my life this symptom is hard to ignore, the constant feeling of being bloated, the weight gain even with a change of diet. And the worse symptom of all, the mood changes. I constantly felt in whirl of emotions from crying reading a magazine to being so unexplainably angry with everyone. I could be fine one minute and the next watch out! My poor husband had to endure this type behavior for 6 months. My doctor still insists that there are NO side effects but i feel the proof is in the pudding.
