I have taken my 15th tablet this morning.
I already knew i was sensitive to new products, and if a small percentage of people have side effects, I'm likely to be one of them.
I browsed through the potential side effects on a my fact sheet and then put the paper away and focused on the positive effects i was looking forward to. I was keen for improvements of any sort!
Well here i am on day 15 and had to start googling to see if it is my imagination or something else.
I commend those women who stick it out for 3 months, but i just can't risk waiting around for an improvement or for it to settle.
I can handle the mid nausea that comes and goes, even the breast swelling, which has been quite extreme. I got a rash -acne like - on my face, initially my face became abnormally greasy too- like i had olive oil on my face! But the following is just not on. i can cope with physical issues, but not mental ones.
1. Moods- Depression and irritability - what a change- I am angry, nasty -want to leave my husband, say mean things to my young children. Don't care about my kids. No warmth. Feel overwhelmed by usual tasks like housework. Feel really negative about everything in my life. Feel sorry for myself for anything that is not positive or terrific. Don't feel motivated, don't care. Resent things that normally i would just go ahead and do.
Foggy brain- can't think clearly
My husband has clinical depression so this is not helpful- two of us being self centred can't work.
Anxiety- unbelievable. I'm like another person- I allow irrational negative thoughts take over. Each day is different, some worse than others.
I've been tempted even a week ago to ask for anti-depressants for anxiety and depression when i saw my doctor for something else. i thought I was going mad.
Fatigue,- some days i just don't want to do anything.
Sleep- a couple of unexplained nights of insomnia and really negative stressful dreams.
Probably other symptoms.
Everything described is an extreme and unbearable change in me, and this effect took place probably with 24 or 48 hours (I didn't keep a diary unfortunately, but the symptoms began almost immediately.
I wish it was a good experience but i am not willing to wait and see what my mental health will be like in a month or two. Not with young kids who need a mum. I just took a herbal laxative to hopefully flush out the Yaz I took this morning. No more for me.

Hello, I've never been on birth control before, but i recently had an abortion and decided I really need to get on some kind of birth control. I am 27, married, and I am a NON-SMOKER. Nuvaring seemed to be the best option for me, easiest, effective and practical. I'm only on my first ring, it comes out for the week break in few days. So far I have NOT had any irritability or headaches, or anything like that. I have gotten a little "spotting" which to me can still be linked to the abortion or even sex. What I DID notice, however, is that I had a few sharp chest pains here and there, quick and not consistent, my husband thinks that could be from stress. I also noticed what I thought to be a pulled muscle in my lower calf could be a sign of a blood clot, which totally scares me. A persistent issue I HAVE had so far, is that I have that numb "pins and needles" feeling in my limbs a bit more often than usual. I do sit odd and my limbs tend to fall asleep more than the average person, but I actually notice it happening more frequently, like my blood circulation isn't as good as it was. I have NOT had high blood pressure. I ALSO noticed I wake sometimes with severe leg pain (cramping) that reminds me of those "growing pains" one would get as a child. I haven't had those since I was a child, wondering if it could be due to the NuvaRing. If anyone has felt similar pains let me know. I am visiting the clinic tomorrow to discuss these things and to see what could be a safer method of BC 4 me!

Been on Toprol XL for 4 years. I am 64 with SVT and mitral valve prolapse. I was started at 50mg daily and got relief but when breakthrough SVT started the dose went up to 50mg in the AM and 25mg in the evening. I still have breakthroughs but can wait them out. I did notice that my SVT or palpitations seemed to be triggered with an imminent BM. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but coincidentally....it started with severe muscle pain when I started taking Toprol XL. I wasn't told that this could be a side effect.HMMMM When my insurance was discontinued (retirement) I started taking the generic due to cost. I haven't noticed any difference between the two. I also noticed that after a SVT episode I have a increase in urination....Toprol or SVT? I also noticed that I am very aware of an increase in a feeling doom. I have had ekgs etc and my heart is in good shape otherwise.

Was put on Toprol XL while in the hospital. Taking 50 mg along with 50 mg of Vasotec. Discontinued the Vasotec because of cough. Put on Cozaar. Dr also prescribed hydrochlorothiazide which I decided not to take. For a month I was lethargic, no appetite or thirst, worsened sleep problems, and MAJOR depression. Started to research and decided it was the Toprol. On Wednesday I cut the dosage in half, by Saturday I started feeling more like my old self. By the following Wednesday I was back to normal as far as I could tell. Cut the dosage in half again and a week later, stopped Toprol all together. Best decision I ever made!!!!!

I have been off of toprol for over a month now. I had some withdrawal effects, pains in my chest, ringing in my ears, headaches, few other minor ones but I am glad to be off the medicine. I am not having the pains in my chest now, they were like angina and I had never had them before I started the meds. I no longer have that foggy head feeling and my memory seems much better. I also am not as fatigued now. I also had gotten very depressed but not sure if it was from toprol or from another med. But now I seem to be out of that funk. Good luck everyone!!!

About two months ago without my doctors premission I started cutting the pills in half. Three days ago I stopped taking the pills altogether, I have had some of the worst headaches in my life!! ***AstraZenaca Phone Number 1-800-236-9933***
CALL & REPORT YOUR PROBLEMS DIRECTLY TO THEM if you hope to maybe help make a difference, please. I have been having so much grief while on this medication I finally broke down and called this number to ask for more information. During the conversation I told the lady I was talking to that every time I try to cut back on this medication I have increasing sharp chest pains. She replied that since I mentioned a problem she needed to report it to their 'safety control division' and asked me to answer a few questions. I don't know if doing this makes any real difference or not, but I believe in strength in numbers, and I would hope that more who read here might also call and express their concerns.
Good luck to anyone who might read this...and take care, JC

Ive been on toprol 25mg for almost a year. My hair started coming out. I get sharp chest pains. I thought I was being lazy with school work and all, but I realize that it was toprol doing this to me. It was fatigue. My cardiologist took me off of it and did not replace it with anything else. This sounds odd to say the least. I thought you had to be weened off of it.

September 15, I first started taking Toprol XL 50 mg for an irregular heart
2007 beat. That was about 2.5 years ago. It didn't help me at
1:27 PM first so my Dr. upped it to 100mg. It helped for about a
year and a half before I began having diarrhea and loose bowels for over a year now. My doctor didn't seem too concerned about
that. At the same time I was taking 1500mg of Niacin a day. I thought
the loose bowels came from too much Niacin, so I asked the Dr. to take
me off that. That did not help me at all. I am seeiing my Dr. next week
I do hope I can get off of Toprol. I have other side effects as well, enlarged thyroid, dizziness, short term memory, depressed, sleepy. But I do mow the lawn without any fatigue. I am tired of the diarrhea every day 2 to 3 times a day. Thanks to everyone who has posted their side effects/ It helps to know others are having the same side effects I am with Toprol.

Started taking Norvasc 5mg about 6 weeks ago. Had mild headaches and darkened urine. After my 1 month follow-up w/my physician, dosage has been increased to 10mg in hopes of a better BP reading. After about 5 days of taking the higher dosage, I get occasional sharp chest pains. Should I be worried?

I have had episodes of arrythmia for the past 20 years. I had my second cardio conversion about 10 weeks ago. My doctor prescribed Toprol to control the arrythmia before (25mg) and after my cardio conversion (12.5mg). For the past six weeks I've been experiencing extreme discomfort in my chest from what I though was heartburn or some form of GERD. After reading these posts, I'm convinced it was caused by the Toprol. I've been taking it in the morning and strangely this was when the heartburn was the worst. Reading these posts allowed to put two and two together. Today I skipped the Toprol--and no more heartburn today. I've had no problems with the arrythmia since my cardio conversion. (I also take a low dose (50mg) of flecainide daily.)

I took Estrostep for 1 year and had many strange abdominal pains, dizziness, and major dental problems... I switched to Yasmin and it nearly killed me in 2 months. I had ALL the symptoms mentioned in previous messages on this page, along with many vision problems. I still have spotted vision (looks like floaters), one eye that keeps dilating in a stretched square shape, and my glasses prescription has changed DRASTICALLY every 3 months....just forget about wearing contacts. Contact lenses, which I used to wear all the time, now make me sick (dizzy, disoriented, dry eyes). I have been off of ALL birth control pills for 5 months. Yes, it is still very bad (panic attacks, sharp chest pains), but it is getting better. This website probably saved my life. My doctor still denies everything, although my optometrist has had one patient go through surgery for clots due to the pill, and another die from a stroke. I find it funny my optometrist could tell me more about the side effects than my gyn. I finally found a general practicioner that did report my symptoms to the FDA, and I gave him this website.
For all the men out there...my husband says to BE PATIENT. :)

Have been on Toprol 25 mg for almost a year, and prior to that was at 50mg for about two years, prescribed for fast heart rate/benign palpitations and also for boderline high BP. Worked fine for BP and palpitations, but six months ago, BP went high again, so now on Diovan low dose and still Toprol 25 mg. Anyway, Diovan has fixed the BP. The most major side effect with TOPROL I believe is the cause for my shortness of breath. I have now began weaning myself off of the Toprol (with ok from Cardiologist) and hope to see an improvement with the SOB....it's been terrible. I get short of breath just talking on the phone, and I do not smoke. I'm hopeful that the symptoms will improve one my body is clear of the Toprol. Anybody else experience SOB from Toprol?

Prescribed 10 day course ($113!!!!) for severe pneumoia, despite requesting to first try some I knew I tolerated well from past experience. (I smell kick backs here.) Within an hour of taking the first dose, I had horrible muscle pains and cramping. My intercostals (ribs) cramped so badly, all I could do was gasp for breath in tiny little pants, each of which felt like getting kicked in the ribs. Tachacardia, mild cynaosis. I began coughing up froth (sign of pulmonary edema.) After 4 hrs (and some codine) the pain gradually subsided.
Now, I'm no quitter, so I went on line and did some reading and realized the problem most likely was a potassium (K) deficiency. I loaded up on K and tried again. Very painful, but no cramping. Began to have chest pains. Insomnia.
Third day: Same as second except towards the end of the day, my heart began beating wildly and arrhythmically. I could feel it banging against my chest wall. Wildly erratic. Still coughing up white foam. Sharp chest pains. Insomnia. Normal rhythm gradually restored over 12 hr period but rate very high.
Needless to say, I have discontinued the course.
Adding a tad of insult to injury, the usage info given by pharmacist was pretty much dead wrong. His complete instuctions:
One a day on empty stomach.
No vitamins
Avoid sun.
Not a word about additional water, that the no vitamins was only for two hours before or two hours after dosing, that I should quit immediately if I experienced severe muscle or chest pain, swelling, skin rash or allergic reactions. And it makes no diff if your stomach is empty or not.
My advice is to tell your MD to make his marketing perks at someone else's expense and give you something safe and affordable. If you must take it, make sure you are K loaded before hand and stay that way. Drink lots of water.
TM - 53 - male - generally excellent health. Never had the slightest adverse rx to any med before this. Never bashed any med before and am not bashing this one. Just relating my experience. Be well.

Taking doxycycline for std (chlamydia) and noticed that the itching and discharge from the urethra stopped after about 2 - 3 days. I also noticed that while taking it I had some sharp chest pains after/during eating... I vomited once after drinking a reasonable amount of alcohol. I also felt drowsy during and even now (2nd day after taking 7 day treatment).

Well it is 5:02 am and thanks to Advair I am still wide awake.
So here goes my experience of taking only two (2) doses of advair.
In my part of the world there is this cold virus that everyone wants to pass on. Seems this monster will stay with you for 3-6 weeks and no meds seem to help. I now am going into my third week dealing with this leach. So today I went to see my doc. He took a listen to my lungs and said wow you really are sick.....dah I was thinking. So he gave me advair and suggested I take a dose right then. I did thinking boy I hope this helps. He then told me to take my second dose in the evening. After I returned home I go the shakes. I just chalked it up to not eating breakfast and went on about my day. I did eat, but I still wasn't feeling right and of course thinking it was the cold virus taking it tole on me. I was nearing 6:00 and I knew I had to be out the door by 6 to go coach my girls basketball team. So before I headed out the door I took my second dose of advair. When I arrived at the gym I was really shaking and my vision was a bit off. I had my son get me a candy bar thinking I just might need some sugar. Now I haven't had a candy bar in years, it is just not my thing, but I was desperate at this time. I told my son as he helps me coach that I wasn't feeling right and if you see me start to go down, you better catch me before I hit the floor..Finally I made it through the ballgame and got home. It wasn't long until I started getting these super sharp chest pains, a pounding headache, and then my arms started feeling numb....I am thinking oh no....I told my hubbie you better call 911, but before he made the call we started discussing the meds the doc gave me today. I had no information on advair, because it was a sample and the doc threw the information in the trash. I never though one thing about it he has been my doc for years. I go to my computer and look for information and side effects for this drug and bingo it described all my symptoms right on the nose. In my reading also I found the FDA voted down the recall on this drug 12-0.
Anyway I voted to stay home, stay awake, sit by the phone, and let the family sleep. After reading the side effects I knew what was going on and in reading also the doctors do not have a magic pill to help, but they can give you a handful of pills to help each of your symptoms and oh boy just what I need more drugs with more side effects.
As I await for all the alarms to go off I still have a slight headache, still a little shaking, the muscles in my arms and legs are still a bit numb, and I still have some chest pain. I will go see another doctor today just for piece of mind or the kids will drag me there anyway.
Now, you have my story of what advair did to me in just one day. I wonder how many others it has effected and how many had to spend hundreds of dollars to find the answer...
I must go now and thanks for reading my story and also I hope everyone is doing well after your experience with advair.....
