I'm taking 25 mg Toprol XL once daily following a mild heart attack in June 2008. What I have experienced is just an overall feeling of aging--tired, muscle aches, fuzzy thinking, forgetfulness, short fuse. I have very little motivation to do things around the house and tire easily. I accepted an invitation to golf this week, but I already told the group that I may only be able to do 9 holes. I don't feel like I could do 18. That's just not me! I have cut back to 12.5 mg. but still feel like a really old man. I complained to my cardiologist, but he said that my dose is too low to cause these problems. I am going to slowly reduce my dosage to 6.25 mg. to see if that helps. I feel my quality of life has suffered for taking this drug.

I've never done this so hopefully it goes where it is supposed to.... I am a 24 year old mommy of 2. I have been on wellbutrin (generic) since late march. So about 3 months. My problem wasn't really depression, but anger. I have always had a short fuse, but I was getting ridiculous with my 4 year old daughter and even I knew it. Well, I was on the 150 xl for a month and a half, then asked the dr. to switch me to something that I could take 2 times a day because the xl wore off right around 5pm and gave me headaches.... So now I am on 150 sr 2 times a day. I have to say that it really is helping me. I kinda feel emotionless sometimes, but I'll take that over feeling like I might rip someones head off. On top of working on the anger, so far I have lost about 25 lbs! I got on the mirena (huge, horrible, god awful mistake) after having my 2nd child and gained about 20 lbs in 1 year. (it also made me the reincarnation of satan)
So, good side effects: No longer angry all the time, no longer fat
And, bad side effects: No sex drive (may be due to 2 kids, not the pills), blurry vision, oily hair, dry mouth (which causes really bad breath in the morning) and I swear, I had Restless Leg syndrome when I was preggers the first time and it was HORRIBLE! It seems that now I have Restless feet syndrome :D My feet always feel like I'm spreading my toes apart (even though I'm not) Don't know what the heck that's all about, but figured I'd throw it in :D I'm also on YAZ which from what I read isn't the best BCP, so maybe I should get off of it.

I had my Mirena placed 8wks after my daughter was born. I have a history of bad reactions to all bc pills on the market, the patch, the ring and a latex allergy (condoms). I didn't want my man to get snipped yet because I was on the fence about having another in a few years. So I opted for the Mirena because it seemed like the answer to all my problems.
I "tightened up" quickly after delivery and had to be re-dilated for placement, HUGE ouchie! I bled like a stuck pig and soaked thru pads for almost a week after insertion, I called and was assured it was normal.
I had already been diagnosed with PPD at the time of placement so I assumed all the emotional side effects were because of that. Until I joined a group for Mirena users and found that emotional problems were top of the list! My family (especially my relationship with my honey) have all suffered from my short fuse, mood swings, crying jags that can last all day for no reason, anxiety (I have had 3 anxiety attacks in the last 6mnths and never had one before in my life!). I have had constant crippling fatigue and can barely get out of bed! I have a toddler and a 6yo son to keep up with and fall asleep on the couch during commercials!
I've had bloating in my midsection, frequent nausea/vomiting, headaches from hell!, constant aches/pains, shooting pain in my reproductive area, infrequent periods/spotting, acne (face AND body), thinning/dull hair. I had an incident of extremely foul-smelling, thick dark discharge that was caused by the Mirena's stopping of my cycle but not allowing the build up that was present to be flushed until a routine pap. I have also had lots of pain during intercourse followed by bleeding afterwards and that is when I can bring myself to have sex! I'm 25 and have a very low/non-existent sex drive!
My honey is finding out thru his insurance how much a vasectomy will be and if we choose to have another child, we'll just have to have it reversed. I can't live like this, I have kids, I have family and friends that I miss, I want my life back. The only way to get it back is to get the Mirena OUT of my body.

I started taking Yaz about a year ago. I started taking it around the time my brother died in a car accident. I thought that my loss of libido, tiredness, lack of interest in everything, emotional outbursts, arguing with my husband for any reason, crying over nothing, unable to concentrate while studying and unable to remember a thing were all because of my brothers death. I am now thinking that this may be due to Yaz. Does this sound like Yaz side effects? or am I suffering from depression because of my brothers death. I just haven't felt right lately and I cant figure it out.

I'm so glad that I came across this website. I thought it was just me, because two of my friends just love their Mirena. I had mine put in Aug. 5, six weeks after the birth of my 2nd daughter. I bled for the rest of the month and into the first week of Sept. Finally stopped just to start again Sept. 25 and it lasted for 2 weeks. Now I haven't started this month which would be my normal time for my period and I got scared so I took a pregnancy test which came back neg. For the past week I feel sick all the time. My body hurts and I have a very short fuse with my husband sometimes I could just slap the crap out of him for no reason at all. Everything around me irritates me and I just start crying for no real reason. I have also started gaining weight and feel bloated and fat all the time. I only gained 11 pounds during my whole pregnancy and have gained so much in 2 months that I'm heavier now than when I was pregnant with a 7lb baby. Its horrible and embarrassing to feel this way all the time. It sucks!!!!! I'm calling my doctor and having this thing removed immediately. I guess that I should of just had my tubes tied after my daughters birth and I wouldn't be going through this right now.

My husband has been taking Lamictal now for 2 years. He had two seizures within 6 mo in his late 30's, one of which resulted in a car crash. Of course he is grateful for such medicine but as a partner and wife, I noticed lots of changes in him after he began the medication. He was irritable, had very low tolerance and a short fuse, was extremely distant and often mean - which in the end caused us to separate for some months. Although we are back together now and our relationship is doing very well, I notice other side effects, for example, he sleeps every time he sits still, etc.
HOWEVER, the real reason I am consulting this forum is to ask anyone (especially men) if they experience side effects related to sex. I know this is a tabu topic but things just aren't working as they used to and I am looking for solutions as he doesn't seem to question the side effects of this drug. This is starting to become an issue psychological issue now as well. Has anyone else experienced lower sex drives and complications during sex?

I have been taking Lisinopril now for only six weeks .I am a 52 year old male with high blood pressure and like most Americans my body mass is slightly high by 25 pounds or so. First I was on 10 mg and then moved up to 20 mg and it has helped my blood pressure a lot from 188/104 to 124/78. I wasn't sure until I read this site that I might have been having any adverse side effects . Like all others I developed the cough right away though not too bad, but I am having a lot of confusion and an extremely short fuse with anxiety. If I get excited my bph will spike right back up to 188/104, is this normal and will it get better ? Other than what I have described I have felt like I have been making progress. I now have lower bph and I have shed some extra weight, that could also be the changes in my diet ie: reduced salt , sugar, portion size. The big thing for me is the short fuse which is very unusual for me, anyone else?

I have had Mirena for about three months and I want it out now. I have had stomach cramps everyday, headache everyday, bleeding for no reason (all the time). My hair is coming out in clumps after my showers, and I have started to have blurry vision. Sometimes I feel like I cant even focus on something. My back hurts all the time and I feel sick every day. I have an appointment to "talk" to the doctor about it, and when I go there I will tell him to remove it then and there. If he doesn't, I will make it known that I am not leaving until he does, or I will take it out myself right then and there!! That's how sure I am that all this is from this poisonous thing. I also have had a short fuse and feel so fancy all the time. I would not recommend this to anyone. Plus, isnt it illegal for them NOT to list all of the side effects in the brochure about Mirena, because Canada does; the US does not!! Good luck to all of you.

My eight year old son, who has asthma and has been taking Singulair since he was three, has been off Singulair for four days and is becoming a completely different little boy! He has always been a "difficult child" with intense emotional reactions to things, anxiety, oppositional behavior, a short fuse and bad temper. He has also displayed obsessive/compulsive behavior. His father and I never thought that his behaviors and symptoms were caused by Singulair. His pediatrician never suggested it. With a family history of anxiety, we just assumed it was the way he was. At four, his preschool requested he be tested for ADHD. The testing revealed a short attention span but not a diagnosis of ADHD. As he got older his symptoms grew more intense. Last year we considered taking him to a psychiatrist but decided to "wait it out" one more year to see if maturity would bring an end to some of the behaviors. It didn't and in fact they grew worse. He became aggressive, explosive and depressed.
I recently began taking Singulair for another medical condition and had noticed that it made me a little moody. Last week, on the verge of making an appointment for my son with a psychiatrist, I started to wonder if maybe he was reacting in a similar, yet more intense way to the Singulair. I reviewed the patient information on line (I had read the patient info for Singulair when my son started taking it, but had not done so in years. I learned a tough lesson: check the information that accompanies prescriptions each and every time I get a refill.) When I read what the "less common side effects" were I was convinced that my son was reacting to his medicine. Then I found this website. We stopped his Singulair immediately and within two days began seeing a dramatic change in our son. He was less high strung, defiant, and explosive. Yesterday we had a cookout with some friends and he played with other kids all day without fighting for the first time in his life! He even cooperated when we asked him to help us get ready for company.
I strongly believe that this medicine should not be given to children and teens. I am so upset that when I asked my son's pediatricians about his behavior TWICE last year, they never mentioned that Singulair could be the problem. I called today to tell them he wasn't taking it anymore and the nurse said that she would note that he is "allergic" to it in his chart!
We are exploring alternate and natural ways to treat our son's asthma. I will NEVER give him Singulair again!
FYI: the labeling for his albuterol inhaler states that "safety and efficacy have not been established in patients under 12 years old". His pediatrician has been prescribing albuterol inhalers since he was three!
Does anyone have information about herbal inhalers and naturopathic treatment of asthma? If so I would like to hear.

My 8 year old son was started on Concerta a few months ago, has severe ADHD & Bipolar Disorder Type 2. He has become more agitated, very short fuse with 7 year old brother, hallucinations - visual of a movie thats coming out - kinda like a harry potter but more creepy, but I'm not sure if it is the concerta or the combo w/ his celexa and risperdal. I increased his risperdal from .75 mg to 1 mg, and it seems to help. He has alot of personal things going on also that could be contributing, any ideas if this could be the concerta or the combo? His Dr is having us get an MRI and a Neurophysical exam to rule out anything physical causing the effects, wants to cover all bases before changing meds. Any feedback welcome (he has been on the celexa and risperdal for a few years now and I know they are not the cause, I have extensive experience with these two meds, just not the concerta) We have also tried Strattera, but it made him too sleepy as it is a non stimulant. Thank you

I had Mirena put in August of 2007 (my daughter was 3 1/2 years old and my son was nearing 1). At first I had a lot of discomfort and then the side effects began to set in: headaches, breakouts, itchy face, depression, no sex drive, extreme fatigue, and I think weight gain. My periods were pretty light but they lasted for weeks. I started being extremely moody and just felt rage boiling in me more and more each day. Now, I did end up switching my epilepsy medication about two weeks after I had the Mirena put in, so I can't be sure that these are all results of Mirena. Luckily, things started to change a little after the 3-month mark, my complexion was almost perfect, I had fewer headaches, I was more up-beat, my anger let up considerably. My sex drive never really came back, my periods got shorter but they were still like 2 weeks long and I got bad pms whereas I never really got it before. Even though I wasn't a raving bitch anymore, I still seemed to be more at risk for mood swings.
I'm now nearing the 6-month mark of having Mirena put in. The last few weeks I've been plagued with cold sores (I've had them ever since I was a kid, but I haven't really had any bad ones in the past 5 years) and my complexion has gone to crap overnight. I'm starting to get the angry feelings back and have started picking fights with my husband again. My pms symptoms seem to be getting worse every month and I seem to have more frequent fatigue and headaches.
My question is, has anyone had a recurrence like this? It seems like it's all happening again, but I can't be sure if it's the Mirena or not. I don't know if my short fuse has to do with the Mirena, my other medicine, or perhaps just long winter days with the kids giving me cabin fever. It seems like the same thing is happening again and I want to know if any others had their irritability continue for more than six months or had it reappear after it had waned for awhile. The past five years have been filled with pregnancy, post partum changes and different birth controls, so I'm not even sure what is normal anymore!

Over the past few years I've had 3 different doctors convince me to try Yasmin instead of my very old fashioned but tried and true Demulen. I'm a military wife and we move a lot... I told each doctor that I really feel awful on Yasmin but none of them believed me. Last month I let the third doctor convince me that I should be on Yasmin. The same old side effects started within days...bitchy, depressed, irritable, frustrated, scared, short fuse, etc... I stopped after 1 month and have an appointment tomorrow. I don't care if any doctors believe me....it IS the Yasmin. I've tried it 3 times. Stay away from this POS drug. Oh yeah, I had yeast infections the whole month.

my name is danielle. i am 29 and have had asthma all of my life, properly diagnosed by age two. i have been on many medications, and advair seems to be the only one that works for me. i use 100/50 once a day, because it does keep me up at night, and i already have troble getting to sleep. however, i do have side effects that until now i have disregarded, but upon reading this website, i feel that i am no longer alone, and that some of these side effects are not a part of life, but a part of the advair.
metal side effects:
irritabilty
aggresion
mood swings
depression
hard to concentrate
short fuse
stress
and the above mentioned insomnia
over the years i have been on many different steroids for my asthma, and the docs always said that that amount wouldn't
have side effects, and sent me to shrinks to be medicated. currently i have no insurance and am not taking anything besides advair and albuterol as needed.
physical side effects:
sore/scratchy throat
always have to clear throat before talking
hoarseness
sores on tounge
dry throat, mouth and nose
deeper voice
dental problems
a lot of these may be my fault because i never rinse my mouth after wards.
more side effects:
abdominal weight gain-no matter what i do
gas a lot!
constipation
blurry vision-i now need glasses
floaters
acne on face only ( i'm 29) and not only at that time of the month
dizzy spells on ocaasion (just last night in fact)
muscle cramps in upper back, shoulders and neck
chest pain/lung cramps-sometimes i think i am gonna have a heart attack, but then the pain goes away
i do notice an increased heart rate after taking advair. i had to give up caffeine so as not to make it worse.
i don't know if these side effects are due to the steriod or the serevent, which i read here is now being investigated. i am not sure what to do at this point. without medcation, i am sure to end up in the hospital emergency room. i have been on advair for going on three years. i am ready for a change. i tried not taking it today and my chest became tight. i had to give in. i know i should not wean myself off it anyway. i will make an appt. with a doc once i gather some research. what have other people done?? i am willing to try anything at this point. my email is ****** thanks for listening. i feel better already.

I have been on Advair for about a year now. I am a very happy, polite, well mannered person at heart. Yet now, after taking Advair, I have been very moody. I feel like I am Bi-Polar!! My mood swings are very dramatic. Sometimes I have a very short fuse and I tend to lash out in angry fits. I have become very impatient and my heart feels like it is going a mile a minute. I told my doctor this, and he lowered my dosage to 100mg and I only take it once a day. I am still suffering the same symptoms. I am scared to go off of Advair for fear of being worse off then I was in the first place! I am having trouble sleeping every night and I have become extremely depressed. I feel like Advair is ruining my life. I have decided to get off of this stuff starting today. I just hope its not to late..

I took my daughter (14yrs old) off of Singulair 2 nights ago after being in the ER. She's been taking this drug for 3 years off and on. We were told she had asthma 3yrs ago and now yesterday after taking the Methacholine challenge test, she doesn't have asthma. Talk about being confused and angry. Over the last three years my daughter changed into a very anxious person, couldn't sleep at nights, very vivid dreams that made her surround herself with pillows thinking her dreams were real, sadness, chest pains, tingling in hands, arms & legs, knee pain (could be sport related?) and a very short fuse. I came across another website and then this one about the side effects of this drug and immediately took her off. She has slept better the last two nights but still has a little chest pain (indigestion), which I hope subsides soon. This has been a terrible stress for her and the whole family and I'm praying being off this drug will help my daughter restore her self confidence and happiness in her life.
