I've been on it for about 2 months, the first month nothing really happened...but the last month its just been getting worse and worse. Light headed, sweaty hands, cold feet, tinglinging in the fingers, heart palpitations, etc...the worst are the heart palps, and light headedness (I feel like I might pass out right now!). I stopped taking it today, my last pill was yesterday morning, so hopefully the side effects will subside today or tomorrow.
for those who went off the drug, how long did it take for the side affects to disappear?

Hello I'm a 41 year old female, and I took Lipitor 20 mgs for 6 months about two years ago. When I called my doctor's office to complain about side effects they told me it couldn't be the Lipitor because I had been taking it for a month already, and would have had problems before that. I eventually took myself off of the drug 5 months later. Here are some of the side effects I experienced:
Itchy fingertips, increased blood pressure, 30lb weight gain, shaky hand writing, acne, poor driving skills, poor memory, hair loss, "frozen joints", IBS, incontinence, low grade fever, itchy feet, numb toes, numb hands, foggy brain, joint pain, muscle pain, foot pain, plantar pain, dizzy, jaw pain, back and neck pain, week ankles and wrists, nasal allergies, skin rashes, migraines, heartburn, Increase in Astham, heart palpitations, knee pain, difficulty standing up from sitting position, difficulty climbing stairs, water retention alternating in feet, hands, arms and legs, almost constant taste of bile in my mouth.
These are only the ones I can remember. Two years down the road everything but the muscle and joint pain and weakness is gone. even those have improved a lot. I stopped taking the Lipitor and lost all 30lbs I had gained on it, without dieting, in a months time. I still have two toes on each foot that are partially numb. I have trouble climbing stairs, and getting up from a sitting position. I can do both, but I move slowly while doing them. The pain in my muscles and joints drives me crazy, but I'm grateful that the rest of the symptoms have cleared up. My doctor never believed me about my symptoms, and neither does my new doctor really. Went to the emergency room for asthma that was not responding to my inhaler, and they were about to let me go home when I mentioned to the doctor that I had been on Lipitor. Suddenly a huge battery of tests were ordered including a CT scan and a stress test. When I asked the doctor why he said that they just wanted to be sure that it wasn't something other than asthma. Why did they do that after hearing about the Lipitor? Do they know something? Are there doctors who believe that statins are killing and seriously injuring people? I'm so angry. Even as I sit here typing I know when I stand up I will have massive amounts of pain that I will have to "walk off". My quadriceps have not recovered, and remain ridiculously weak.
If I can stop one other person from going through this I will be happy. Thanks everyone for taking the time to list your symptoms. It makes me feel better to know that someone believes me, and knows what I am going through.

Mirena....pills..depo...ALL VERY SCARY!!Like someone else said in this website....makes sense- "can't have our cake and eat it too" I had the Mirena inserted in me about a year ago and I have back, shoulder and neck pain ALL THE TIME!
Also very sharp shooting pains.......not all the time but very painful, like needles. I feel depressed all the time when I KNOW I have no reason to be and horrible mood swings. I did also notice those weird acne looking bumps on my forehead and very dry skin which I've never had in my life! I am getting this thing removed ASAP! Thank you ladies!!

I was prescribed Levaquin 750 mg 3 days ago for a sinus infection. The first day I was just in bed. I could not sleep because my neck hurt so bad. I figured I had slept funny on my pillow. The next morning I woke up and took my second pill. I got so very dizzy and when the lawn guy wanted a check, I discovered I could not write. My hands were so shaky and weird that I could not even write my name. I had to call someone to pick my son up from school because I was scared to drive. I could not sleep that night but did take my third pill. Today I got up and could not lift my right arm. My shoulder hurts so bad and I can't lift my arm without extreme pain. I am not going to take another dose. The Dr. did not tell me any of this could happen. I won't take this medication again. I hope I will be able to lift my arm soon and this horrible shoulder and neck pain will go away.

Just wanted to update my situation. Well the shaking muscles have subsided a bit (it's been 8 days since I've stopped levaquin) been to the dr's 2 more times and had new blood work done yesterday. One doc says 90% sure it's from the levaquin but wants me to take the doxycyline anyway and then see a rhumatologist. My primary disagrees, did more blood work believes it definitely from the levaquin and is sending me to rhumatologist. They also they are updating their warnings in their office to make sure that it states this is a SERIOUS side effect (she also printed me off all my symptoms that are side effects of levaquin from their computer but say "rare") My knees started to subside until I bent down and BAMN just like it was all brand new, they are burning like no tomorrow! My ankles (achilles) and my shoulder tips (where the tendons are) are still killing and I am getting muscle contractions in my thighs and left arm but not as much, this may be due to the muscle relaxers and motrin. I have also been taking diazapam for the spasms so who knows how I would feel otherwise. I am disguising the pain with medication it seems and my fear is I am going to hurt myself worse. One dr told me that if the tendons were going to rupture then there is NOTHING I can do about it, they're going to rupture, the other dr. disagrees. My primary feels I need to be seen and diagnosed asap with tendon and joint pain and feels as though it's serious, but also believes it will not last as long as the other dr said (about 4 months). I am going to go swimming tomorrow because it's suppose to be good excercise for the tendons and joints. I have been putting hot pack and nuprin cream on the knees and ankles (cold seems to aggravate it and make them feel like they're ripping). If I type (like now) I can feel the burning in my shoulders and my left elbow now. This is a serious disease this medication has given me and the second I see the rhumatologist and I am diagonosed with something I do NOT want to hear (like permanant, or long term) I am calling a lawyer. I am not a sue happy person but who the hell does this company think they are making MILLIONS off of this medication and leaving people disabled or dibilitated for long periods of time. I am too young (early 40's) to be feeling like a 80 year old as a matter of fact my mom is 70 and goes to the gym every day and walks and swims, I was the same way until this medication poisoned me. I have herniated discs in my spine and they are aggravated because I have not been able to excersise that is part of my life and routine and I am furious.
If anyone has contacted this company, can you post it here and let me know what they have said? Thank you all and I hope you are all feeling better!

I am normally a very physically fit specimen, working outside every day. One 500 mg. tab of this poisencompletely debilitated me. Within six hours of taking levaquin I experienced excruciation soreness in my arms and shoulders. My throat swelled up and I could barely breath. I was perscribed steroids to stop the swelling - I took only ONE 500 mg time release tab 7 days ago and today I am still experiencing incredible pain.I am so sore I can't sleep. If anyone wants to start a call action suit I am in - I have NEVER sued anyone - but I am furious.Any advise out there as to how I can flush this poisen out of my system?

I am a 72 year old male. I have been taking 10 mg Lipitor for 15 years. Within the last three years I have been ordering it from Canada and splitting 20 mg tablets in half to save money. In the last 1-2 years I have noticed intermittent pain in my right calf, shoulder and neck pain, and some imbalance. I will be seeing my internist shortly to discuss this.

For past 3 weeks been having shoulder and neck pain, can't sleep at night and more hurtful. Taking Aleve for pain.
On Lipitor 10 mg a day. Started taking it 5 months ago.
Also can't lose weight, now I think it the lipitor that keeping me from losing on my diet program. I lose 2 lbs and gain it back next day, which seem like fluid retainment. I taking and blood pressure fluid reducer pill. I am going off lipitor as of today and see what happen. Cannot live this way, with the constant daily pain and if it is the lipitor I will soon know giving it time to be off it. On last check up, my ldl was under 100 so why in world am I on it. I might be changing doctors.
What I like to know is where do you find a doctor that not a pill pusher for the rx companies now a day. Grandma live to be 89 and on insuline twice a day, no meter testing. I am on insulin, meter testing, and now lipitor. Tired of being a testing human animal for rx companies, that take the drug off the market after a few years of damage. Age 66 years old, female.

53 year old, runner, given shot for fibroids,Day after 1st shot (30 day) side effects started: High blood pressure, racing heart, shaky hands, flushing. Had these problems for a couple of days, then started with chest pain, chest heaviness, shoulder and neck pain feeling like I couldn't breath, pounding heart, barely able to make it up the stairs in my house. Ended up in the ER from the severe chest pain - all tests were normal.
additional side effects two days later - blurry vision at times, tingling in hands and feet, occasionally spreading up to my head, insomnia, pounding feeling in my chest, another trip to the ER - again all tests normal. Now on top of all the above, I am having severe indigestion and feel like I have a large lump in my throat and have a hard time swallowing. I still have 2 weeks left. Hope it all goes away soon - also have been bleeding for about 10 days - What a nightmare!!!

have been taking Atorvastatin for 5 months, prescribed by the hospital after I was hospitalised for 3 days following a minor stroke. I was prescribed 20mg which I took for about three and a half months. I felt dizzy a bit and believed this was side affects from my stroke. My cholesterol was 6.2 which is considered quite high. I decided to cut down the dose to 10 mg as I hate taking drugs of any kind and a friend of mine who has low thyroid like me ( we are both on thyroxine) told me that she had been told that one should not take statins with an under active thyroid. This is why I reduced the dose. Having found this website I am beggining to realise that the shoulder and neck pain that has developed over the last months and also an increase in the dryness to my eyes and a swollen finger joint - could all possibly be due to Atorvastatin. I have now stopped taking the drug -- my shoulders are just beginning to feel easier now , I await relief from my swollen painful finger-- will let you know results.

Absolutely cannot recommend this "medication." Took 500mg dose for 7 days and suffered: inflamation of the Achilles; muscle spasms in legs; cramps in in the thighs and the glutes; stiffness in leg joints; shoulder and neck pain; and then acne-like breakouts on the forehead and body-wide itching. Of course these were all noted side effects. I stopped taking the meds, looked into homeopathy remedies and cleared up the problem myself. Continued to have stiffness in the legs for several weeks but found glucosamine and chondroitin helped quite a bit. I'm sure this works for some people...but not me.
