Hi

I just started taking 20mg of Prednisone for a shoulder injury. So far I have all but loss my appetite, which sounds strange to me since my doctor told me to expect to gain weight very quickly. I have also loss my need to sleep. I was up from Saturday 11:15 am morning the first day I began Prednisone and wasn't able to get to sleep until Sunday night around 10:00pm. I'm sweating like I'm constantly being rained on, it is so darn annoying. I also started to lose my voice last night and then again today, is that normal with is drug? I'm so full of energy all I do is clean our house, work out in my flower beds, etc. I'm kinda of scare of this drug and I'm glad I will be off of it next Tuesday unless my shoulder isn't better when I start physical therapy tomorrow. I wish you all the best while you are taking this drug.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Marlene

I must add my recent experience with Prednisone to this forum:

I have been suffering from constant lower back pain and a torn shoulder injury (rotator cuff) for the last several years. A week ago I got a slight case of Poison Ivy. My doctor gave me Prednisone - starting at 60 mgs. a day, tapering down to 10 over 12 days. I was unsure as to whether I wanted to be on a steroid , especially after reading some of the testimonies here at this forum. But I went ahead and took it. I must say this has been one of the most amazing experiences for me.
Not only did my Poison Ivy immediately begin to go away, but lo and behold, practically ALL my back pain and shoulder pain went away. I also found myself with this amazing positive mental attitude. I began to get up and enjoy my job everyday (normally I am somewhat depressed and stressed out). It was such a major change for the better - I feel like I have been living the resurrection!! Yet I know it is only due to absence of pain and increased energy brought on by the Prednisone. I feel like a happier, younger version of myself. Prednisone has even helped me sleep better! So, evidently, for some people, prednisone is a wonder-drug.
I did note a very slight manic edge at times, but never unmanageable and always very positive. As soon as I decrease the dose, the pain and inflammation in my back and shoulder starts to return. What a shame that this drug causes osteoporosis and other long-term affects. I wish I could stay on it forever!!

I have been taking Neurontin for 2 months. I didn't think it was really helping because I still couldn't function normally. I have had 3 disk surgeries on L4/5, and still have severe pain in my right hip and down my right leg all the way to my foot. I am told there is scar tissue build-up in the area causing the nerve pain. I started taking Neurontin in small doses and have built up to 1200mg 3 times a day. I still couldn't walk more than 20 feet without leaning on something, but the pain was noticably less severe. My doctor put me on Trileptal instead, and the first day off the Neurontin was a nightmare...the pain was worse than ever. I went back to the Neurontin immediately. I have experienced some weight gain, but have attibuted that to no exercise. It does seem to make me forgetful, tired and somewhat depressed, but without it, the pain is completely debilitating. I want my life back, but I don't know what to do from here. Neurontin has helped the pain to a more tolerable level, but if I still can't even walk, I'm not even close to functioning normally. If anyone has a suggestion, I would love to hear it...thanks.

I am a very athletic and active 37 yo male. I suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery and I needed to get cardial clearance before my procedure could go ahead. I have really no medical history other than Mitrovalve Prolapse. The doctor diagnosed me with hbp and put me on 10mg of Lisinopril the first week of January 07. all was ok until after my surgery. I started experiencing the side effects in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Here is a list of symptoms Ive experienced in mostly random, erratic times.

-Mild Cough(thankfully)
-Loss of motivation
-Heart beating out of chest with elevated blood pressure(huh?)
-Pangs of anxiety and mild panic
-Hot flashes (like hearing shocking news)
-Weak in the knees (after flash)
-Mild headache (like caffeine headache)
-Shaky hands
-Irritability
-Cold and hot sensations in hands and feet
-Slightly cloudy vision and sore eyes
-Cramps in calves and forearms
-Random muscle ticks
-Sore neck (could be from my arm sling)

I went to the ER 3 days ago after an episode and got an ekg and it looked fine. The doc thought maybe I was withdrawing from alcohol from the way I was fidgeting. I was a mess. I felt like crap the rest of the day. I called my cardiologist and he (his nurse) suggested Atenolol in addition to my Lisinopryl. I cannot wrap my mind around that. Are they really trying to poison us? Since then I have been eating better and drinking plenty of liquids but I still get the pangs, just not as bad so far. It is affecting my daily life and I dont want it to affect my healing. After reading thru endless posts on this site I feel angry and truly feel I should find an alternative. Thank you all for posting!
