I'm 54, started taking lisinopril in jan 09. I took for about 3 months and noticed a decrease in libido. My pressure was pretty much in control, so I stopped taking it. I started again around 1st of Aug 09. Approx 3-4 weeks later, I began to experience severe pain in my left shoulder and arm. It began to move into my neck and back. I went in for an EKG to ensure I wasn't having a stroke. It was normal. I experience dizziness and headaches. I wake in the night and my 2 left fingers on the left hand are completely numb. The pain in my neck is now moving to the right side and some shoulder pain seems to be apparent. I noticed pain in other joints as well. I'm unable to work out at the gym as I usually do due to the pain my my left arm. I highly suspect these symptoms to be caused by lisinopril. I've been taking 20mg and was just switched to 20 mgm Hct. a week ago. X-Rays were taken of my neck and shoulder last week. Haven't' heard from the doctor as of yet. I was on Diovan before I lost my job and health benefits. As a vet, the VA put me on the Lisinopril. The Diovan worked fine for me, too expensive for us vets I guess. I am discontinuing the Lisinopril as of today 10/24/09. I feel like I imagine a ninety year old would feel with these aches and all. I havent' admitted it, but I believe I'm feeling mildly depressed as well. Let's see what a week of purging this from my system does. f. D.

I have some memory problems, forgetfulness, and "foggie" feeling. My co-workers have noticed the change in me - these symptoms were gradual; also trouble with insomnia (always had some trouble sleeping, but it seemed to increase with the lovastatin; some shoulder pain, and more headaches too.

80 mg prescribed over 18mth period - shoulder pain began after one year - acute pain at night', diminishing rotational capability during the day. Second shoulder pain followed soon after with same symptoms. Feels as if the joint is becoming unstable and the moving skeletal components rubbing together and jarring.(clicks, clonks felt & heard) GP immediately took me off them and arranged physio. After two weeks without simvastatin there is no change/ relief in symptoms

This is in response to someone who suggested that if you just take the pill as ordered, you will be ok. T0 put it simply , you are wrong. There are more than a few people affected by this drug. The problem is most people assume that because they have high blood pressure their health is already compromised and they put the weird symptoms and problems they have on their overall health.
I started taking Lisinopril 5 years ago and not once did my doctor connect my sudden problems to Lisinopril.
I was told I needed my right shoulder cuff repaired cause I was overweight and I believed it. I was told I had GERD cause the abdominal fat was pushing the acid into my throat. I believed it. I started having menstrual problems I was told I was getting old ( I am on ly 42 years old). I believed it.
I started having memory and concentration issues I was told I was too stressed at work. I believed it. Started having heart attack and stroke symptoms. I was told I had high blood pressure and I needed to lose weight. I believed it. My knees and joints started giving out.. again I was told I was overweight. Lose weight and I will get better. I believed it. Started having rib cage pain like shingles and I was told it might be my gall bladder. I had a HIDA scan and nothing was found.
One day last summer I felt like I was dying a slow death and I went to the hospital and was found out I was in heart failure, heart rate was irregular and kidney function was impaired.
I was admitted to the ICU for 3 days. While in the ICU I had my blackberry and I started googling all of my meds and I came across this site and I suddenly felt like a thousand pounds was lifted off my shoulders. That was the last Lisinopril pill i took and guess what? EVERY single one of the above problems have magically disappeared.
I work in a healthcare setting where people are admitted that are critically ill. Whenever I see a particular diagnosis I immediately scan their meds and what do I see? Lisinopril. People are having joints replaced, stomach surgeries, shoulder surgeries, irregular heart beats, unexplained heart attacks, people are being diagnosed with Alzheimer and dementia on this drug. People are getting brain lesions and the list goes on and on.
There are over 30 million people worldwide on this drug. If drugs were so good why are people getting sicker and sicker.
Please don't take this drug. Do what you have to do to get your blood pressure under control.

I've been on 80mg of Simvastatin for probably about a year. I'm a 59 yo male 188 lbs in good health but with high cholesterol. Lately I've experienced severe head and neck pain, shoulder pain, hand and joint pain, and foot pain. I'm normally very active, hike and walk a lot but lately, and it's getting worse, so I don't feel like doing anything. I'm thinking it's the Simvastatin causing all these problems. I don't feel like paying $1000s to have med professionals hit or miss with ideas and more tests so I'm going to quit the statin on my own and see if I feel better. I've also noticed memory loss, tiredness, dizziness, temporary vision issues at times. These are not good as I like to rock climb and participate in stressful and demanding activities.

I have been taking 40mg lipitor for over 9 years now.
I have had back issues since an injury to one disc (L4?), and had microdiscectomy in 2001? Took about two years to actually get close to normal.
The last few years, I have had multiple issues with shoulder pain, wrist pain, elbow pain, lower back pain, Upper rump muscle pain , and now both hips are killing me (the shoulder, upper rump muscles and hips are by far the worst). And I am now so weak in my lower back muscles, that it feels like I will (and do) pull out my back.
I have seen NO many doctors I can't even name them all. I have had operations, multiple injections (cortisone) taken pain meds, etc. Nothing has helped and in the last year and a half, I have gotten steadily worse. To the point where I can't really do much of any activity. Sleeping at night is painful. Can't lie on left shoulder, and can't lie on either hip for more than a few minutes. If I fall asleep on my side, the pain wakes me up. When I try to walk, 80% of the time, I end up with a pain in my upper right rump (sacroiliac area), that I MUST sit down to get the intense pain to go away, which it does. But comes right back when I walk again.
I have had x-rays, MRIs etc, and never reveals all that much. Disc issues, yes. NOt much else.
Recently, I have begun to get a nasty clicking (catching) on my left jaw (joint?). Not really painful, but something definitely wrong. My dentist sent me to his Chiro. I went and liked him right away. I had gone to another chiro for years and I believe in them. But this one is the best I have seen.
Anyway, one of the FIRST things he suggested, was that it was POSSIBLE that the Lipitor is causing all of my problems. Put me on COQ10, and doing multiple adjustments and treatments. I will be seeing my regular doctor 5/26, and my chiro wants me to see if he will take me off lipitor and put me on Niaspan instead.
I guess my question is: Can Lipitor be fine with me for so long, and then in such a short period of time, turn me into a compete wreck from the pain and wasting away of my body/muscles? I've told doctors for over a year now that there is SOME connection as to all these issues and pain. One Doctor, of course, gave me the "you are getting old" bull. Yes, I am 56 yrs old. But I understand the process of getting old, vs the complete failing of ones body.
Also, IF it is the Lipitor, can it possible all go away? Or should I expect some damage forever?
One more thing, the last ortho I went to the other day for a second opinion, wants me to do a EMG, to see if there is muscle damage. I was not planning on doing it, but wonder now, should I? He was not doing it because of lipitor, as he never even talked about that to me. I had shoulder operation and have not had the results I feel I should have had.

Had injection 2 pm today immediately had head spins like I was off my face (I am a 45 yo mum so no drugs here) heart racing very dizzy and hearing was distorted. Told doctor he was not concerned. I have had injections before and have experienced the burning skin sensation rashes and tummy aches and cramps. I try to hold off for months on getting another but the pain in my shoulder is so bad I have to eventually. ATM my shoulder pain has intensified 10 fold although eventually I will be pain free in a week or so this should last up to 3 months. I will be able to sleep better which I desperately need as I shift work and have a young family.

I am generally classed as an active, happy and positive person, loving life.... but the last 4 months have been a blinking nightmare....
It seems we all pretty much have the same symptoms, horrid shoulder pain, muscle soreness, spasms, feet and generally feeling like "what the??" is where we are all at..horrid thoughts of MS? Motor Neurons, Parkinsons, etc. all sorts of possible sinister problems.
I too have stopped taking Lipitor only a week ago (and I only started back in October 2008 after "arguing with my doctor for many years not wanting to take it...and i didn't even know about the horror side effects, i just thought it was totally unnatural to strip the body of something almost totally,).. within 2 months I started showing signs of chronic neck C5/6/7 and left shoulder. Maybe I had injured myself once before and suffered pinched nerves, but the pain eventually went, but this is not normal or should I say usual...... I have constant buzzing of left thumb/forefinger and hand and my right leg. NEVER NEVER have I suffered from this type of symptom before in my entire 50 years... Even some days when the spasms are at their worst I get an itchy nose and tingling lips. The scariest symptom of a white flash in my left eye convinced me...So fed up with it and after stumbling on all the negative comments and side effects with this drug I made to decision to take control of my own life. It is too uncanny....As I said, it's only a week now free of Lipitor, I have increased my Vitamin C intake and making sure I take a Mega Multivitamin daily too. There is some interesting reading in various websites of Vitamin C vs Statins...
BUT it would really be nice to read any comments of people who have recovered from these rotten symptoms and what sort of time frame it took to get over them. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for us all. Some indication of Recovery period is probably our greatest "want to know"... and also...when will i be able to enjoy cycling again. Thank you to everyone for the input and may our strength be returned, not only physically but spiritually as well. :-)

Not sure but didn't have a problem with sugar until a month after starting Lipitor 80mg. Leg muscles feel like they are going to cramp when I move quickly and I now have much fatigue both muscles and general. AND, I now have to start Metformin for diabetes. No history of diabetes in my family and I am not much overweight and get loads of exercise. I am wondering if the Lipitor could have contributed to the diabetes?

My doc prescribed Avelox for a sinus infection after the first round of antibiotics didn't clear it up. The dosage was for 10 days. After taking pills for 4 days, I started getting a strange shoulder pain. It's like I had worked out my shoulder muscles after a loong time and my muscles were recovering, but I had done no exercises of any sort to cause that. I also did feel some dizziness and unable to focus after the 4th pill. I immediately stopped taking any more pills after that. Would rather face the sinus infection than deal with all this.
I was worried after reading the side-effects of others on taking this med. But luckily enough - it's been one week after stopping the meds and my shoulder pain is now completely gone. So, it does look like the side effects will clear up, but just takes sometime. My prayers to all who are suffering that they recover fast.

I had a terrible cough and rusty sputum. I was given 2 rounds of Z-Pak with no help. Finally I went to an emergency center (Doc in a box kind of place) I got a chest x ray and was TOLD I had pneumonia and given Levaquin. No info was given when I filled the prescription at the only pharmacy open that time of night-that should have been a warning but I was too sick to realize. 10 days of vomiting, diarrhea and SHOULDER pain in the side I had rotator cuff repair last year. My shouldr pain is pretty bad but not as bad as some of you describe. I also have a pacemaker on the other side, so when I went to my cardiologist the next week he said I had NOT had pneumonia, but a bad bronchitis according to the radiologist who finally read my x-ray.
He also said the Levaquin given me was most likely the cause of my symptoms. He said Levaquin is being massively over prescribed like all newer drugs and is becoming ineffective towards more and more infections. I wish I had known then what I know now. Go to a REAL doctor-not an intern moonlighting and get REAL medical advice. My shoulder is better with Tylenol and Omega 3/7/9 Fish Oil capsules. Ibuprofen is not as effective for me.

I had went to the dr. a few weeks back for sinus problems. My dr. gave me amoxicillin to take. After 1 week, My sinus infection was
not any better at all so he gave me 400mg of avelox to take once a day for 10 days. I immediately experienced dizziness and extreme bouts of tiredness. Since that was the primary warning
on the label I did not pay it any attention and continued to take the meds. After 6 days of taking the meds I have decided to
discontinue using the meds. I have experienced some severe side effects which are dizziness, fatigue, increased headaches,
upset stomach, extremely loose stool, stomach cramps, blurred vision and severe and almost debilitating ankle pain, leg pain, knee
pain, wrist pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain, lower back pain and neck pain.
I have also had a rapid heart rate so bad at times it feels like my heart is
going to beat right out of my chest. I feel anxious and very short
tempered as well. I am snappy with my loved ones for no reason at
all and what is worst is I still have severe sinus pressure and
pain as if the infection hasn't even went away. The only plus is that I can
breathe clearly through my nose for the first time in 3 and a half
weeks. I guess that's not really much of a trade off now is it.

I am a 52 year old male.8 years ago I had a heart attack.2 stents were put in.I have been on lipitor for the past 8 years.I was on 80 mg. for years, cholesterol got so low the Doctor reduced it to 40 mg.I lived with minor soreness, thinking it was age, arthritis, and a side effect of my very physical job.3 weeks ago joint pain started getting worse! Knee, hips, and especially the shoulders. It got to the point I could hardly crawl out of bed.Feb.20 called the doctor and he told me to stop the lipitor immediately! Today Feb. 24 pain is way less already.I wonder now about long term damage to muscles and joints! I am supposed to call him at the end of the week, very curious about what the conversation will be like. I do not plan to go back on the lipitor especially after reading this web-site.Thanks

Hi-I am a 59 year old female have been taking 20mg Simvastatin for 3 months for a cholesterol level of 238 and have noticed significant symptoms that cannot be from any other origin than this medication-dry skin, change of hair texture, psoriasis and bulging in thumb joints, stomach flu, shoulder pain and tingling in hands, vision problems. I am a healthy flight attendant except for all these things that have happened in the last 3 MONTHS!!! I am seeing my doctor tomorrow to discuss a change. I want to take a natural medication to lower my cholesterol.

I started this medication 6 days ago for a UTI, and just this afternoon started developing a nasty rash. It has now spread to my whole body. The rash is not raised, and only a little bit itchy. I have a sore throat, dizziness, swollen glands, and feel like I am in a fog. I also have severe pain in my left shoulder and neck... the funny thing is that when the shoulder pain started a few days ago it was in my right side. My eyes are bloodshot, which I realized when someone asked me if I had been crying. I only have 1 dose left, but will throw the bottle away and never take this medication again.

I had been on simvastatin a couple months when the debilitating fatigue started. Since I have hypothyroidism I blamed it on that. The fatigue got worse along with severe depression, brain fog. Numbness in my hands and feet and kidney pain kept me up at night. And then the shoulder pain started. It was excruciating. While pulling a dress over my head, my shoulder literally blew up. Turns out my biceps tendon rupture and filled my shoulder joint with chunks of cartilage. After looking at my MRI the orthopedic surgeon said if I didn't have surgery, the excruciating pain would only get worse and I'd lose the use of my arm.
Now, after stopping simvastatin my LDL has gone up to 300. Dr. wants me to start Welchol. After reading the side effects on this site....um...I don't know.

I was put on Lipitor 10 mg. last Spring about 8 mos. ago. I have never taken medications/drugs other than aspirin or Motrin or antihistamines. Since that time I have had a strange combination of unexplained symptoms arise throughout the months. These sx's included: Headaches, stiff neck and severe neck pain, acute shoulder pain, hip pains, joint pains, severe knee pain (tendon or Ligament problems?) and loss of movement, hair loss, jaw pain and some memory confusion. Initially, I had severe HA's for several months, but attributed them to stress, however, I had never experienced HA's as a common occurrence. Then we went away to our Maui house to get away from stress, HA's continued, along with leg and shoulder pains. At the same time, I started noticing several strands of hair falling out if lightly touched my hair to move it out of my face. The pains seemed to move around my body at different times, for no apparent reason. I am used to daily exercise, living in CO in the mountains @ high altitude, not usually having muscle soreness. Now, given my leg and knee pains have gotten so bad, I cannot hike and have difficulty climbing my stairs. Skiing is out. Snorkeling caused leg cramps. No explained reason for having muscle tenderness or soreness without my usual exercise at present time. When the pain leaves one area it tends to arise in a different part of my body. At the present time, my hair loss has subsided, as also my jaw pain and headaches. However, my leg pains and knee pains are so acute (for no apparent reason) it is impossible to exercise and difficult to walk that I looked up adverse reactions to Lipitor, finding all my sx's most probably might be attributed to this drug. Partially my fault for not looking up RX information prior, especially being a medical professional for many years. My husband kept throwing away the info when purchasing the RX. Too many unexplained symptoms, I decided to obtain the drug info. myself. I tended to make excuses for months, such as: I am getting older, under stress, must be an old injury, not exercising properly, need PT therapy etc.... I am dc/ing the drug immediately and have an appt. with my MD on 1/5/09 to discuss.

I was given a Rx for Levaquin on Dec 17th (5 day dose). I started it on the 17th. By Saturday the 20th, I wasn't feeling good at all, my ankles, knees, hips, elbows, wrists and finger joints hurt. I only had one dose left so stupid me, I took it.
I have had pain ever since. I had read the sheet you get from the drugstore when I had the Rx filled. I remembered something about possible joint pain but didn't think much about it until the pain didn't go away after I stopped taking the drug.
Wednesday the 24th, I looked Levaquin up on an internet drug site and looked at the side effect list again. That is when I realized that the pain I was having was under the "notify your doctor" category. Their office was closed until the 29th. I tried to call the 29th but the phone was always busy. I finally got through today and told them my symptoms and told them to put in my chart to not give me that drug again. The nurse called back to say that they put it in my chart and to take otc stuff for the pain.
I have been taking Advil and a combination pill of glucosamine and condroitin (those are probably not spelled correctly - sorry). I am better but still not 100%.
Today is the 31st and my last dose of Levaquin was Dec 21. I am down to knee pain and a puffy feeling (not really swollen externally but feels swollen internally), left shoulder pain (worse in the morning when I wake up), my hips hurt off and on and my ankles hurt off and on. I am concerned about one of my ankles because I already have a haglund deformaty there so there is already damage to the area.
When I try to get out of a chair, I feel like I am 90 (I am only 49). I really hope this gets better soon. I haven't heard anything about a law suit or anyone who has a way to speed the recovery. Please, let me know if anyone knows how to help this get better faster.

I am 25 years old and have been on Yaz for 3 weeks now, taking my first white pill today. So far I have experienced nausea everyday like it was morning sickness, I even threw up at least four times. I have experienced headaches, dizziness, back and shoulder pain, fatigue ... but the nausea is the worst. I couldn't even look or smell my boyfriends dinner the other night because I thought I would get sick. Also, for three weeks straight, everyday I have had bleeding ... EVERYDAY! I've also been overly emotional ... even watching Survivor last night had me crying ... a lot. Lastly, I have had no sex drive, don't even want to be bothered. POSITIVES: My boobs grew out of all my old bras, and my acne has disappeared (which is the reason I began Yaz). Honestly, because I am having relief from acne, mind you I'm 25 and have only had this problem for the past couple years, I am going to continue Yaz for another month and see if things get better. But I fear the visit of my period! Good luck to you, and thanks for sharing!

I have been on fosamax for about three months. All of a sudden I noticed my hair falling out. I had very thick curly hair, and now I fear that it will all go away. I am in a state of panic right now. I am wondering how much hair will I be left with, and will it ever grow back? Can anyone tell me ?
-- By deeannbeck | Reply | Private Message meI have stopped the fosamax a week ago, and will never take it again no matter what my doctor says. He is blaming the hair loss on hormones. But I have not had hormones for years. I am 57, had a hysterectomy at 28, took premarin for years, and stopped about 8 years ago. I have also been having pain in my shoulder which now that I read about other people having shoulder pain. could also be from the fosamax. Please tel me what to do about my hair loss! Will it grow back?
