I never had a cholesterol problem, however I am a type 2 diabetic. My doctor prescribed me 10mg of Lipitor based on studies. I have been buying and taking that expensive drug for at least 4 years. I noticed last august my muscles ached all over. Then I started having trouble with my "sciatic nerve". Since October, I have not walked properly or without pain. That is until this past week. The doctor laughed and told me that it wasn't the side effect of Lipitor. I believed it was, after all I know my body! I went back to the doctor in Feb and told her I am not going to take the med. I feel 100 percent better, I am eating oatmeal or a fiber breakfast every morning and I feel good. I will see how the numbers do in may when I go for my blood work!

I was put on Lipitor in 2004 and didn't realize what was happening to me-I thought I was just getting old. (I'm now 66) I went from a very active person to one who struggled to get out of the car and my entire body ached. I was constantly tired, I had trouble putting thoughts together. I would sit at the kitchen table and cry because I felt so awful. I started losing my balance and falling down. In one of my falls in December 2006 I injured my left hip. I went to a chiropractor to see if he could help relieve the pain in my hip. While going over my symptoms and medications he pointed out that the Lipitor I'm taking could cause most of my symptoms. He suggested I call my doctor and talk to her. I did and she said that Lipitor could cause severe muscle aches-she wanted to do a blood test and said that I could just go off the Lipitor. My blood test was normal. That was in March 2007 and I have been off the Lipitor since. The fatigue and muscle aches have gone away. I still have the hip pain (bursitis) and have been going to physical therapy for that. My memory is improving but I still have to concentrate, repeat names and write things down trying to remember. I'm trying to lose weight (most of it gained around my middle). I go to the gym and exercise to try to build my muscle strength. I'm not tired all the time, I've read that the symptoms can last a long time and sometimes may never go away. I've been told by the doctor that if my cholesterol is up at my next visit that she wants me to go back on Lipitor. She also said that if it had been the Lipitor, the symptoms would have gone away right after I went off the Lipitor. I will absolutely refuse to go on any Statin-I cannot take the chance of feeling so badly again.

Cholesterol-Fighting Drug Tied to Liver, Kidney Injury
The Kahn Gauthier Law Group is investigating possible lawsuits against Pfizer Inc., the manufacturer of the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor (atorvastatin), to recover for liver or kidney damage suffered by patients prescribed Lipitor. Like other drugs in its class (the statins), Lipitor can cause elevated liver enzymes. In clinical trials, this occurred in 0.7 percent of the patients, but the rate was much higher for those taking the 80 mg dose.
Another serious side effect of Lipitor and other statins is a condition called rhabdomyolysis, in which muscle cells break down and release potentially toxic cell contents into the bloodstream.

Hi , my friend and I both started taking lipitor about the same time, l0mg, and we both ended up with soreness and caking in the nose not cold sores, but very sore and nose gets blocked. She used vaseline to help it but my doctor says anything that goes into the nose goes the lungs, so i am afraid to use the vaoline. She said hers cleared up with the use of the vasoline. Any others have this as a side effect of lipitor?? thanks

My boyfriend started taking lipitor some time ago. The other day he went to the gim and after a while his lower abdomen was bloated and the doctor told him it was normal. That there was nothing to worry about. I recalled that as randomiolisis (since i have it) and I was worried since it didn't seem normal to me. I just saw some comments in this site and I was wondering if this may be a side effect of Lipitor. If some of you have had this please let me know. Additonally if you are interested, please read the book "the colestherol myth" by MD, PhD, Uffe Ravnskov. You will be amazed.

I have been taking lipitor - 10 mg. for only two weeks, but I feel ten years older than when I started. (I am 54) I am so tired all the time. I am sleeping 12 - 14 hours and still feel exhasted. I don't know if this is a side effect of lipitor or an amazing coincidence.

I have had a macular hole and have been told by someone else who had same that it was a side effect of Lipitor. Had surgery and survived the two-week face down position, but sight has not yet returned. It is some better, but still very poor after 2 months. Also had had some tingling weak feelings in my hands, neck, back of the head, and shoulders. From the minute I stopped taking Lipitor, these symptoms completely disappeared.

I've been on Lipitor for 1 year and have all the side affects that you all are describing.
I've also developed an inflamed liver.
Any one else?
if I get more response, I'm seriously considering a lawsuit against the pharmacy company.
Tom
