I'm so thankful to have found this site. I have been taking oral contraceptives sinc the age of 17. I'm now 30. I've never had any problems, but approached my new GYN several months ago about switching to a "better" pill since I noticed was getting more cramps and a heavier flow after taking Ortho-tricyclen for 5 years. Prior to that I hadn't had any major issues. I began taking Yasmin in October...starting this January, I've been experiencing multiple stomach issues...gas, bloating, pain...all the time. Already having had GI issues, I went back on my old medication and made an appt with an internist after having diarrhea every day for about 1.5 months. She switched me to new GI meds for GERD. I also complained of my fatigue, weakness, lack of motivation, hair loss, headaches, irritability and some symptoms of depression. She checked me for hypothyroidism and that came back negative.
On my drive home I felt defeated and racked my brain for what could be the cause of all this. Being a mental health clinician, I immediately started thinking of any emotional issues that might be the root. Then I realized that the difference in the last few months was Yasmin. I made an appt with my GYN, and unfortunately, she didn't believe that this may actually be causing these side effects. I even told her of websites such as this, in addition to (DUH) the manufacturer's own publication. She tried saying it might be Seasonal Affective Disorder. She reluctantly agreed to switching me back to Ortho upon my request.
Although I feel like I'm getting nowhere with my (suerly overpaid) physicians, I find validation here and truly believe that, despite the manufacturer's contention that this pill is "the one" that doesn't cause these side effects, it's all relative. We're all unique and our bodies react differently to different things. Thanks again for the posts!

I just started OvCon a few weeks ago. Prior to that I was on the Ortho Evra patch. I switched becasue my period lasted forever on the patch (6-7 days) when without bc it was only 3-4 days. I haven't stopped spotting/bleeding sinc eI started OvCon. I see why it's called birth control-you can't get pregnant if you aren't having sex becasue of bleeding. I'm ready to switch back to Ortho Evra next month again. Especially after reading the postings on this site!

Hi i havd a heart attack 10 years ago when i was 32, my cholesterol was 6.4 at the time. I have been taking atorastatin ever sinc. I started on 10mg and ever since experienced the usual side effects, a few cramps, pins and needles whenever i worked out but not muscle ache or tiredness. I am now on 40mg, this came about after i paid £500 to have special x rays done of my heart in March 2004. The tests showed i had a build up of cholesterol in 3 arterys and they work on a scale of 0 to 2000 as a measurement, my reading was 418. This told them that i had more cholesterol build up than i should have and they suggested the new perscription of 40mg. Because it was my first time on the new machine they could not tell me if it was getting worst or not so i will have it done again in a years time. the only real symptom i seem to have now from the extra dose of Atorastatin is that my urine smells a lot stronger than before and i still get the pins and needles when i go to the gym.
If you want to find out what shape your heart is in have one of these test done, it takes 5 minutes and gives you clear pictures of what shape your arteries are in, its called a CT heart Scan.
good Luck

I read that zocor can affect lab values in thryoid function test. I am not sure if it is the zocor but ever since I have been on zocor sinc this past november my TSH levels have gone as low as 0.02 and are now as high as 31.4
The doctor assured me it isn't the zocor just my thyroid acting up. We have decreased my dosage of synthoid. I have an appointment with him in a couple of days and I will bring this up. I was wondering does Lipitor have the same side affect on Thyroid functions as I read zocor does and how does it affect the thryoid? I feel fine other than slight constipation

I had Mirena placed approximately a year ago, after my 3rd child as a temporary birth control sinc i was on a waiting list for tubal ligation. I knew something was gonna go wrong with this thing because from the beginning it was not "cooperating" My doctor was out that day and had another Doctor who was filling in for her place the Mirena, that thing just kept popping off and would not stay put. After 3 painful attempt she stated "it is now in, but the thread is too long so she went in and cut it more... oh now it's too short, but it is in place". I asked if it was in place and would it keep popping off since she was having problem placing it in....I was told no.... just check for the string constantly... After 3-4 months of cramping, abnormal bleeding, and spoting everyday, and not being able to feel that string, i figured it was all normal, and is that where the crabiness was coming from? After a year of placement, I went to my OB and she could not find the string... I thought it was just me, but just to make sure she called another doctor to check, they did ultrasound, and finally x-ray.... well they found it somewhere inside me, i don't exactly know where it is located, maybe inside my uterus? I still have to discuss these info with my doctor on wednesday to talk about my surgery... yes surgery, now i have to go thru surgery..... to remove the mirena that wandered off inside me, UGHhhhhh. I hate this mirena, had i known i would have to go thru this i would have just settled for the pill....... Hopefully after it is removed, the cramping would go away, spotting and abnormal bleeding, and i could go back to being a mom to my children instead of momster... and maybe i can now go to sleep on time And oh no more surgery again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
