My daugther has been off and on singulair for about a year or so. We recently started it again, along with a whole bunch of other medications, because her asthma flared up really badly. She recently completed a course of prednisone - during that treatment she was especially moody/hostile, but the behavior seems to be continuing even after we stopped the prednisone.
Granted she's on a ton of medicines right now - xopenex, zyrtec, rhnyotan (a prescription decongestant), pennicillin and singulair. But, I am wondering if singulair is making matters worse. And, maybe it's just reading these posts, but I'm looking back on the last three weeks or so, when the asthma flare up began, and I am wondering if the singulair is a bigger problem than we thought. I'd say her behavrior has trended downward since the flare up began and we started the singulair again. Of course, at the same time, we also started with xopenex treatments a couple of times a day.
Anyway, to make a long story longer, I can't pin this on singulari, but I am surprised at some of the complaints I'm reading here - and how similar they are to our concerns. Our daughter wakes up a couple of times at night now, screaming; she is moody/hostile, has no energy, says her stomach/tushie hurts, complains about leg pains every now and then and lately says her eyes itch really badly. I'm calling the pediatrician and allergist tomorrow.

Been on Advair for 10 months, and have gained 20 lbs since then!! Also experience sharp head pains, foot & leg cramps, short term memory loss, irritability and mood swings, increased menstrual flow, slow healing of wounds, etc. Main concern is rapid weight gain! I went to my dr today to discuss...she claims to be unaware of any of these side effects being related to Advair....she can't imagine weight gain as Advair is a powder that goes into just the lungs. My mid section is where I have gained mostly. After reading all the boards on different websites, I am surprised to see how many are experiencing the same side effects with Advair, & I am convinced that it is the cause. I asked dr to prescribe something else, & she did...asmanex & serevent....haven't tried it yet...but I now read that asmanex is also linked to weight gain. I feel so frustrated that I can't rely on my dr for this, & feel like I have to fiure it all out on my own. I'm scared to continue with these meds but I need something to keep my mild asthma under control....everyday. Can anyone recommend anything to me? Should I switch to non-steroid? Any feedback on Singulaire somethin similar? Any information will be helpful. Thanks!

my 10 year old daughter was put on singulair by an infectious disease doctor that had seen some improvements in kids taking this who have chronic sinus infections and swelling of sinus tissues...my daughter showed an improvement in sinus problems but noticed a 20 pound weight gain from 62 to 82 pounds in a few months..owed this to better health from pill and tonsil/sinus surgery...went off singulaire that summer...at Christmas my daughter caught a bad cold which turned into a potentially fatal frontal sinus infection from infected swelling frontal sinus (called Pott's Puffy Tumor)...she was put on IV antibiotics and singulair..she takes nasonex and sudafed regularly and does daily sinus rinsing...since starting the singulair again she is increasingly hungry and she is gaining weight again...slightly moody, never feels full...but the new symptom is pain in her side at the lower rib cage..this started after singulair for 2 months...the pain wraps around her side and reaches to her navel area...last night she woke up with severe cramping in her stomach every 10 minutes like labor contractions....after an hour she developed all over hives and was having hot flashes during the cramping...she had just taken her second dose of Entex which is an expectorant to thin her sinus mucous...at the time of these symptoms she has been off her IV drugs for 3 weeks...so these other posts really make me suspect singulair for weight gain and abdominal/rib pain and cramping..anyone with similar symptoms?..

My son aged 4 has night terrors on Singulaire, disappear on stopping, reappear when re-introduced.
Also has language delay - unsure if this is related.

I started taking Singulaire about 3 months ago , along with three blood pressure medications and a couple of other medications. I started having extreme weakness in my legs and couldn't trace it to anything I"d done or not done. This was the only new drug I was on. When i get off it, the weakness subsides but the allergy, coughing etc comes back. it's wonderful for my allergies, but I can't walk any distance without this weakness in my legs practically stopping me in my tracks. i"m off it again for awhile. Click on my name and read my other posts! I am wondering after reading soooo many posts, how many of you felt like you couldn't "shut your brain off" when you were trying to sleep? (OR how many of your children described their bed time this way?) The big link seems to be that people (especially kids and teens) are having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, and that the lack of deep sleep is resulting in most of these mood swings, depression, outbursts, etc... and Singulair is causing this sleeplessness! Sleep deprivation is a form of torture. Singulair causes sleep deprivation; therefore, Singulair =torture! (sorry, merck, but you are reaping profits off our children's suffering!)

My daughter did not just suffer sleeplessness. She was found in her dorm hallway in a zombie like state, not responding to questioning and hauled to a hospital in an ambulance. They initially thought she had overdosed on drugs!!!! (she tested negative for drugs, by the way) The next two weeks were living hell for my daughter and our family, but once she was out of the hospital and not taking any Singulair, life returned to normal. Not just normal, exceedingly spectacular!
