Stay away from this medication !!, I started a 7 day course of doxy last week for a sinus problem. The following morning from taking the first tablet i developed an unusual calf pain, this then resonated to my ankles and some other areas like my arms. I like other people have experienced the feeling of having my feet feel like they are on fire. Yesterday i went to see a consultant in my near by hospital in Glasgow and was told that my symptoms were a side effect of doxy. I have suspended the medication yesterday. its horrendous.

I took Levaquin 2 weeks ago for an ear/sinus problem. I had taken the 2nd pill (750) and my insides hurt so bad that night that I could not even lay down. Since then, I have burning pain in abdomen, light colored stools, indigestion, poor appetite, and my creatinine level went up to 3.3. I am going for an EGD on Tuesday. I am really sick and would like to know if anyone else had this.

I took Ambien for 2 years. I had all of the common side effects: hallucinations, memory problems, loopiness, nightmares, etc. However, I eventually started smelling smoke all of the time. Since Ambien was the only drug I was on, I stopped taking it. After a couple of weeks, the smoke smell faded. Life went on as usual, and I became pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful boy. That night I couldn't fall asleep even though I was exhausted. I tossed and turned all night, and the nurse started showing concern for me. She asked if I wanted to try a sleeping pill, and contacted my doctor. They ended up giving me an Ambien that night, and that night, the smoke smell returned for a few days. Fast forward several months after giving up Ambien completely. I developed a nasty head cold that gave my sinuses a pounding. That was when the smell returned. I began to piece things together, and went to the doctor. I asked him if he thought the Ambien damaged my sense of smell and if sinus conditions like congestion, allergies, and sickness exacerbated the problem. He did first check me for a brain tumor, but agreed with my assessment. He has seen thing like this happen to people, although not specifically with Ambien since it was a newer drug. He thinks a combination of the drug and sinus problems permanently damaged my olfactory nerves. He told me to try Flonase, and within a week of smelling smoke, it goes away. seven years later, the smoke smell still comes and goes, but actually cues me to what is going on in my sinuses at the time. I know when my sinuses are congested or irritated, and I take Flonase for relief within a few days to a week. Not saying everyone will have this problem, but it is something to be aware of...

I have to admit I am dumbfounded. I "stumbled" upon this information tonight.
I am a very healthy and active 40 year old female with no health issues other than seasonal allergies and asthma. I went to the dr. 4 weeks ago for a sinus infection. I was prescribed 5 days of Levaquin (called a “Lev-pak”??). The sinus infection seemed better but the symptoms of that came back after 10 days and I went back to the dr. only to be prescribed a 2nd round of the same medication. Again the sinus infection seemed to get better and now a month later I went to the same dr. again today because the sinus problem came back but worse. Today I was prescribed a different antibiotic called Avalox. Since I had not heard of this drug I decided to look it up before taking it.
I now look back over the last month and am horrified that I have had these bizarre symptoms and here they are experienced by 100's of other people. And this is just one website, with people that took time to speak up. Just one. All of sudden I already feel better because I can explain so much. Not once was I warned about this drug either by the doctor or my pharmacist.
Everything I am about to describe I have either blamed on still being sick (and getting sicker from the presumed infection) or have blamed on other meds taken in addition for congestion, headache, stomach problems, wheezing, etc.

I have had ridiculous sleep patterns. I was either SO awake some nights that I felt like I could run 10 miles or SO exhausted by bedtime that I could barely walk up the stairs to get to bed. I have had extreme nightmares and dreams. In addition I have had at times practically NO peripheral vision combined with a blinding headache. I also had ringing in one or both ears that was very random. I seriously thought several times that I might have a brain tumor. I have had all these weird stomach issues. I have felt bloated and my abdomen area has been painful at times. I also have gone from either having bad diarrhea to being very constipated. My heart has raced at times both while doing physical activity OR sitting still. For about 3 days after the first round I had sharp pains in my left side (abdomen and arm). I have experienced bizarre hot flashes combined with being freezing cold minutes later with no fever at all. And last my right leg, particularly my knee and foot have just hurt at odd times (just waking up, walking up and down stairs, after sitting for a few minutes). All of these things separated seem so random so I never suspected Levaquin. Having read page after page…they are ALL explained.

I can’t tell you how much better I feel right this moment. I feel sane again. I will never, ever take Levaquin again and am so thankful I was smart enough to get information before taking Avalox, which would have been round three of this poisonous family of antibiotics. I don't know how long it will take for the Levaquin symptoms to go away but at least I'll know why these things are happening. Thank you.

I had to re-start Lisinopril recently (almost 3 months now) and did not realize until I saw my Dr. last week that it was quite possible that that was what was causing my nagging cough, liquid phlegm cough-ups, burping at night, dehydration overnight, scratchy throat off and on at all hours of the day, loud chest coughing occasionally, my eyelashes are more brittle now, some leg cramping, and toe cramps, and watery right eye, would tear up quite a bit during heavy bouts of coughing. :( He just changed me to HCTZ which now I'm wondering if that is the same thing as Lisinopril? It reads that at the top of this post--what if they both cause an allergic reaction like this I am ALLERGIC TO SULFA COMPOUNDS so upon reading that pharmacist note above, I'm going to speak to my Pharmacist, My Dr's and my chiropractor too. I'll tell everyone I know, I've already heard from 3 other people that say they had a nagging cough and it turned out to be their blood pressure medicine.

I am a 52 year old women , except for a yearly resistant sinus infection I would describe myself as very healthy and have only minor aches and pains for my age. I was prescribed Levaquin by a walk- in physician after 2 months of a sinus infection. Within a week I felt 100 years old . I could barely get out of bed, the pain in all my joints was excruciating the first 5 minutes and didn't improve a lot during the day . I didn't think my legs would hold me upon rising from any position. After one week of finishing the drug I started to feel better.......it has been two weeks now.... I'm still sore and weak , especially noted in hands and legs .

What exactly do we need for a class action suit, guys?

Side effects: Severe disorientation as if very drunk (vertigo, dizziness, feeling "out-of-body" or high), hallucinations (including feeling things crawling on me), overwhelming fatigue (as if I hadn't slept for days), muscle soreness (as if I'd exercised for hours), joint and tendon pain (especially in hands, wrists and ankles), insomnia, nausea (lost 8lbs in a few days), racing heartbeat, dehydration, ringing in ears, stomach cramps, yeast infection and spotting.

The drug immediately made me sick but I thought it was just the sinus infection, and unfortunately kept on taking it. The side effects were actually worse AFTER I stopped taking it (I got much worse before I got better).

If you're on this stuff, STOP IMMEDIATELY. If you're scared and experiencing side effects as I did, PLEASE KNOW that they are real (you're not imagining things) but they WILL go away. Listen to your body, rest as much as you can, and drink plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of fluids. Despite the nausea, eat SOMETHING (toast, bananas, applesauce).

This is a 24-hour drug, so (verified by my pharmacist) due to its half life, it takes a MINIMUM of four days to leave your system. I only started feeling non-drugged a full 7 days after I stopped taking it. The fatigue lingered (kind of like getting over the worst bout of flu EVER) but now it's slowly going away, too. This stuff was an overwhelming blow to my physical health (I've NEVER been this sick), but I'm getting better. YOU WILL, TOO!

Been on a 7 day 100mg course for sinus infection. Ive felt dizziness, headaches, nausea, tingling in my arms and legs, heartburn, stomach cramps and my throat and glands swollen up. Also Ive been left with no energy and sleeping for 12 hours a night. As soon as I got in from work I was going straght to bed! Couldn't even be bothered getting a shower. Which is very unlike me as Im very active normally. My course finished 2 days ago and my heartburn remains as well as the headaches. And my sinus problem has not gone. This was not worth it! Never again!

hi i have been on fifty mgs of lamictal for a month, depression was much better,,,,then pmd decided to fiddle faddle and says yes you are better but lets up the mgs to 100 mgs once a day,,,,i have sore throat,,walk into walls, freezing cold....and believe it or not,,,just started this drug yesterday at this dose...now,,i agree that these shrinks are just playing around and love to give out the samples that the drug salesperson brings in...son is into medical research...he told me it is all big business now,,,and to especially watch out for the druggist,,,they make terrible mistakes,,,,also the pharmaceutical companys cut back on active ingredients and this has been prove....my sore throat and sinus problem is very disturbing...in a nutshell ,,,i don't like this dosage and have to take it upon myself to cut down to fifty....we have to be proactive...after all it is our bodies and our minds....

I keep reading of all those that are taking their children off Singulair, but I'm really curious as to what happens next. Are you all searching for other meds. or going to fish oil and vitamin D (heard that may help immune system) ? Are you having difficulty telling your doctor that their advice failed you? I'm at a lose as to what to do next...especially because we can't tell the doctor it didn't work, just that we are not taking the gamble.

I must be one of the "unusual" cases. I have been taking Flomax for about 4 years with no significant side effects. It took about 7 days for my system to adjust but after that I have had very few problems. I do have an occasional sinus problem but none of the other symptoms described in these posts. Flomax was prescribed because of BPH and urinary difficulty. It has worked very well for me.

I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now. Keep in mind I didn't know what was happening to me, I never thought twice about the switch to generic, it was cheaper and I also had a lot of stress going on in my life at the time.

My pharmacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years due to PVC's, AVNRT, Bigeminy, Trigeminy and Couplets. NOT High Blood Pressure. In my case I get very symptomatic from the arrhythmias: very low blood pressure, chest pain, fatigue, blacking out. I've had EP studies and attempted ablations in the past, but they were unsuccessful. For the last 2 years I had been under control on this med. Within a week of starting the new generic, I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. The new symptoms just kept coming. Since Dec 07, I have been to a Neurologist, Neuro-Ophthalmologist, Endocrinologist, Gastrointerologist, Ear Nose and Throat Doctor, Cardiologist, and many more. The generic form caused my arrhythmias to come back with a vengeance, I got depression, I couldn't sleep, my chest hurt, my BP was like 85/45, I lost 16 pounds and couldn't eat. I was almost passing out, seeing stars, I had bigeminy/trigeminy day and night for days on end, I was crying for nothing, very moody, I was coughing and wheezing, I had tingling in my arms and hands, loud ringing in my ears, I couldn't concentrate let alone think. I had tons of blood work that the doctors said, "just didn't look right". Upper GI test discovered a hiatal hernia, MRI discovered brain lesions, I had a high red blood cell count (but not anemic), my ferritin was high, my blood sugar was high, I was tested for MS, Lupus, thyroid, everything under the sun and was borderline for these diseases! I thought I was going to die, I had never been depressed in my life and this was the worst. I was beginning to think I was a hypochondriac. But, it was all there on paper, all the tests showed something wrong, but they didn't know what.

I googled Toprol brand versus generic and found out that it wasn't just me, thousands of people have had these same reactions since they started making Generic Toprol. Please read up on it, everyone who writes their story can't be wrong (there is at least one from every state complaining of the same thing). I've been taking the old TOPROL XL BRAND for the last 9 days and my arrhythmias have completely stopped, I have an appetite again and the depression has lifted. I hope it didn't cause any permanent damage.

I know this is probably happening to people everywhere who don't have access to the internet or maybe don't get out much. If you ask the pharmacist, they will tell you that they are exactly the same and they are NOT. The generic may work perfectly for you, but it doesn't work for all. In trying to figure out why I was so symptomatic, the doctors in the hospital took me off the beta blocker completely....I could have had a stroke or heart attack. I started back up on the brand name when after I googled it and realized that you can't just "go off" Toprol. I just wish I would have discovered it about 3 months ago. They thought for sure I had either MS or Lupus and were trying to rule out all the mimics of these very serious diseases. I'm going back to my doctors and have them repeat all the blood tests, etc. to make sure everything is back to normal.

I'm trying to get the word out.

Hi,

I had a systemic allergic reaction to an allergy injection. I was treated at the hospital with Benadryl and Prednisone. I was told to continue to take both, but still was having problems with sinus inflammation related to the reaction a day later. I saw my Dr. who told me to up the Prednisone and start taking Singulair.

Well I started having side effects worse than the sinus inflammation I originally had within a few hours of taking the Singulair. I totally chalked them up to Prednisone side effects, since that drug has so many issues. But the side effects were different than those listed from Prednisone, and different from the last time I had to take Prednisone for an allergy attack. I had INTENSE head pressure (not just the sinuses, but everywhere), muscle tightness/pressure in my neck muscles and at the base of my skull. I don't know if this was a side effect or not, but I had freezing hands and feet, also VERY cold.. except my face was hot. I also got hot flushes occasionally in my body, like on the backs of my thighs. I also felt "out of it".. very dizzy and slow to respond. I was also very confused by why my sinus inflammation was not really responding to the Prednisone since it is such a strong anti-inflammatory. Well, I stopped taking the Singulair last night after reading this site, and I am feeling back to normal! Even my sinuses have unplugged. I suppose this could all be something besides the Singulair, but I am not chancing it again.

After taking leviquin for 5 days, I realized that my knees were getting so stiff that I could hardly get up and down. I have a torn cartilage in my left knee but it does not require surgery. I had been very active doing yardwork, riding bicycle, et. and then, BOOM, I couldn't figure out why I was having so much problem with my knees. I take the herbal joint complex all the time which always helps with any arthritis. While I was so sick with this sinus problem, I forgot to take my joint complex so I figured that was my problem but I have found nothing that does it any good at this point. This is the 6th day after the leviquin and I am still as stiff in my knees as I was in the beginning. I have been taking advil at least twice a day. I had no idea that this medicine could have caused it but decided to look it up on the internet and was shocked to find out how many people are affected this way. I can assure you that I will not take Leviquin again
ever.

On May 18, 2004, my doctor prescribed Levaquin for a sinus problem. I took one pill at 4 p.m. that afternoon and had a stroke that evening and the morning of May 19, 2004. It caused a blood clot to pass throught my brain stem and made my left arm and leg useless. I was in the hospital and out of work for 2 months. I have regained most of my functions but still have many side effects. This product, I also believe should be taken off the market.

my daughter has been on this medication for about 45 days. She has gained 17 pounds, her nose is always stuffed up. No medication is helping her sinus problem. Does anyone have the name of any other medications that can be used to treat her personality disorder (bi-polar) that does not cause rapid weight gain.

My 16y/o daughter was prescribed Guaifen DM for a sinus problem. She took twice on the first day, the next morning she took one, went to school and at 10:30 I got a phone call at work that she was on her way to the hospital by ambulance for a severe allergic reaction. She had a severe rash all over, tremors (almost like a seizure), swollen throat and tongue. It took about 4 days for the tremors to go away. Ten days later, she experienced another bout of extreme tremors, we went to the Emergency room where the ER Doc said that there was no way that those meds were causing her problems. Now they want to do a MRI and an EEG. I really think that this med is extremely dangerous and has caused all the problems. How long has it been on the market??????

I only went on this drug because it seems the allergy season
has caused a sinus problem. I have the foul odour when
i rub the tip of my nose. Very dry green discharge if I blow
my nose hard. Usually sinuses too hard..not running.
I have dull aching in my head and sinus and teeth sometimes
ache. Symptoms been going on for about two months. Flonase
decongestants don't completely fix so doc prescriped
levofloxacin...as I said took one pill yesterday at 7..10 day
dosage. These stories have my head spinning..but like I said
so for I feel no worse than I did before. Usually anti biotics
work well for me if I need them...always try to rough it out
first.
