I started taking Levaquin on Saturday for preventive measures for knee surgery. I had taken Keflex the week before and had an allergic reaction to it. Extreme itching on my hands, hips, shoulders and feet. I broke out in hives and my lips, eyes, hands and face swelled up. I quit taking Keflex and then a week later, they started me on Levaquin. So this morning, Tuesday, I had been on Levaquin for 3 days, I woke up feeling fine. I was up for about 10 minutes and the back of my head was itchy. I itched it and noticed that my fingers and hands were starting to swell. I took a sip of coffe and my lips were starting to swell. Within 10 min. I was swollen, itchy, in an extreme cold sweat, my throat was swelling and I could not breath very well. I grabbed my phone and called 911 and I could barely remember my address. I told the dispatcher that I was going to pass out and I did. When I came to I could hear the dispatcher trying to get my attention. When I got back on the phone after passing out, she said paramedics were on the way. They showed up about 2 min. later. My blood pressure was 101/53. I ended up going to the hospital and on the way there, they gave me a shot of epipedirine and benadryl. When I got to the hospital there were 8 people working on me. I got a shot of pepcid and a shot for the rash that was covering 90% of my body. I was still having a hard time understanding questions and was having a hard time staying focused to answer questions. I was in the ER for about 4 1/2 hours for anaphylaxis but they finally got it under control. Now I get to have epi pens to carry around with me since this was such a severe reaction. I was told to look into an allergy screening so I think I might see how much the insurance will pay on that and maybe get that done.

I am on Mirena and have been since Nov 2006. At first I didn't have any symptoms but the longer its been in the worse I have gotten. Before I had my son I could drink a couple drinks and not get sick at all, now I have a sip of alcohol and in an hour I have diarrhea and stomach cramping. At first I thought that I mixed it too harsh but it kept happening. I went to my doctor because I was getting married in 2 months and I would like to drink at my own wedding. She said it was because I was under so much stress of the wedding that it was making me stressed out, and the alcohol made it worse. First of all I wasn't under stress from the wedding. So I couldn't drink at my bachelorette party (even though I did and suffered later) and I didn't drink at the wedding. Does anyone else suffer from this? Please let me know!

So before the wedding (maybe 3 weeks) I went in again and wanted it out. I made an appointment and went in. My friend is a surgical tech and said that she has had to assist in removing mirena before. So I asked my doctor how many times she has had to surgically remove mirena. SHe said she has never ever surgically removed it before. I joked around with her and said watch I will be your first and my doc said no no no that wont happen. WELLLL it did!!! My doc couldn't find the strings so I had an ultrasound in her office (done by her). Then she talked to a gyno (my doc is a family practice doc) and he said he wanted a real ultrasound and he would take a look.....got that all done and now I have an appt on Feb 17th for a pre op. I cant wait to take this out! Im sick of not having a sex life with my husband. I don't even want him to touch me at night, my back hurts all the time, I cant drink and im 23 years old, I cant lose wait from the pregnancy, Im very moody all the time, I just feel like I cant go out with my friends and have a couple. Someone said something about a Mirena crash? what is that?? I need to prepare myself for that! If you read this and don't have mirena yet...be very cautious! Im not saying not to get it because everyone is different but just be careful!

I was diagnosed with bronchitis a couple of days a go and was given a 5 day course of Levaquin 750mg. The doctor also gave me a prescription for the Z pack in case Levaquin did not work. Before I went to the doctor I had a fever of 102 for 5 days so I was ready to take anything. That evening Nov. 11th 2008 I took my first pill... and my last one. The onset of side effects started within 3 hours. It began with an extreme blinding headache and a very stiff neck. I finally fell asleep and had the most intensely bizarre dreams which I woke up from several times to find my self drenched in sweat. The night sweats were extremely intense and followed me through to the next day. I could not stop sweating... My head was pounding in pain, it felt as if my brain was swelling though my fever had subsided. I proceeded to turn the tv on to try to distract myself, but as I was doing so my mind was racing and I found it very difficult to organize my thoughts. My vision was very isolated meaning that I felt like I had lost my peripheral vision all together. I was unable to read silently without hearing the words in a loud voice in my head...very very strange. I had zero appetite and experienced serious diarrhea the next day. This drug felt overwhelmingly powerful kind of like dropping a nuclear weapon on a small village. I felt like my body was on fire for a moment as if i was given chemo therapy. While trying not to panic I realized that a lot of my joints were cracking. It was then I decided to go online and do some reading about this drug...WOW... I mean WOW... How do scientists manage to create a drug that can actually snap tendons... We can't cure anything but we sure can napalm the hell out of anything. That being said I decided to call my doctor and said WTF were you thinking giving me this!?! Needless to say it took about 60 hours for the one pill to wear off. I am terrified to think what would happen to me if I had finished the 5 day course. I know the one pill caused some damage, hopefully nothing permanent. I am now on the Z pac and it is very mild in comparison. Please listen to your body as I did and immediately discontinue use if you experience any side effects. I firmly believe that this drug is something you take only if you are dying and there are just no alternatives ie Anthrax.

I had an injection into a Bursae about a week and a half ago. My face was hot and bright red for about three days, if i went out in the sun it made it worst almost like i was allergic to the sun. I have had headaches daily, since. Vicodin will not help these headaches, my heartburn was so bad i stopped taking all medicines, birth control, antibiotic, pain meds. My stomach hurt so bad the second night that i could not make a sudden movement. and i couldn't stand straight up. i have been so nauseated, ive thrown up twice, once i was taking a sip of milk to get rid of the side effects and as soon as i swallowed i puked, the second time i just smelled something. i have been bouncing around in the bed all night. and so depressed i need to be committed. my head has hurt so bad many days i don't want to hear my one and a half yr old speak. but i am stay at home mom and i have to do what i have to do. i had told my doctor that i had these effects, but another physician treated me. i told him and he assured me it would be a very small amount. also a my ankles hurt especially, feel like they are gonna snap, as well as all my other joints when i come off of these. someone email me plz *******

I had my parotid glands washed out with saline and because they were still dirty the surgeon decided to swab them with Betadine. When I came around from the operation I was panicking in the recovery room. Later, I was put into a side ward, luckily with my sister in attendance, and took a minute sip of water. This caused me to choke and I could not catch my breath. Assistance was sought and I was taken away to get help with my breathing. My whole face swelled up and my eyes had huge sort of blisters under them, which affected my sight for about 3 days; my hearing was also affected temporarily. The sides of my face, where the parotid glands are, were absolutely solid, my lips were distorted and I looked like I had been in a fight. My vocal cords were also swollen, which resulted in very poor speech for 24/36 hours. I had to be put on continuous oxygen, and have frequent nebulisers. I was given steroids, antihistamines, antibiotics and other treatments which I am not sure of. What should have been a 45 minute operation and 2-3 hour recovery resulted in a week's stay in hospital. When I was discharged, I had to return the following day, as the swelling had come back up again and I had to have the steroid medication I was sent home with doubled and Piriton and Omeprazole prescribed as well. I had intense pain at the top of my head, over my left ear, at various times during the week, resulting in me having to take Oramorph. All of these effects caused my diabetes to go out of control, with my blood sugars running over 20 for the first 2 days and well over 10 for the rest of the week. All in all I was very unwell.

Am on my second 3-week course of doxycycline for Lyme disease since the first go round didn't eradicate the infection. Have all the classic side effects mentioned, however the stomach ailments are GREATLY alleviated by taking a strong (70 billion parts per capsule) probiotic. Take it half way between the 2 doxycycline doses and although it isn't magic it does make a difference.
Although I have no appetite, I try to graze lightly on foods that appeal to me throughout the day and that seems to help with many of the horrific side effects.
Also, my MD suggested I take Aleve and NOT Ibuprofen for headaches since the Ibuprofen can cause a "headache" kickback (and causes stomach pain). Don't know if that's true, but the Aleve seems to help a little.
Worst side effects for me are utter exhaustion, dizziness, stomach pain, sore throat, and a head that hurts feels like it is filled with wet cotton. Also heart palpitations which may be part of the Lyme disease.
Hope some of this helps.

20 min after my second dose I experienced severe vomiting. Headache, vomiting and nausea continued for 32 hours – I could not hold down more than a sip of lemon/lime soda or jello. During that time I my skin became itchy, the next I developed a rash on my neck and chest... I have been taking hydroxyzine, which relieves the itch, but a month later the rash persists…

I have been taking Adderall xr for a while now. and every time either run out of it or don't take it for a few days, and then start up, the end of my tongue gets very red, raw, and sore, my throat is also sore and has a burning feeling to it. Is this related and if it is would Ritalin be a better choice.

Severe frontal lobe headaches that occur upon waking in the AM.
Today also had visual acuity affected in left eye. The pain was like
nothing I have ever experienced! I must take 800mg IB immediately
and not move at all, nausea the sets in and it takes a couple of
hours to slowly resolve. I am left feeling weak, shaky, disoriented
for the rest of the day. This EXACT scenario has happened twice
after starting 20 mg. of Prilosec twice daily (started 2 weeks ago).
Needless to say I am not taking this medication anymore.

I have been taking Doxcycline for my acne for less than a week and today, an hour after swallowing the pill with a sip of water and no food in my stomach I felt naseauted and dizzy to the point where i could not stand up. Five minutes later I vomitted and had to call in sick. I am wondering if it is worth it. I don't want to fear taking this pill everyday, but want to get rid of my acne. The side effects should be written on the side of the prescription, but they are not. I am skeptical about this drug.

I'm so glad I found this site!!
Today was the first day I noticed any symtoms and I've been taking it for 3 days now. About 30 minutes after taking it, I've been feeling nauseated and dizzy and some abdominal pain. I'm a college student and I was on my way to class this morning when I started feeling these symptoms. Literally 1 minute after being in my class, I had to get up and leave back to my dorm because I felt like I was about to faint and vomit at the same time! I didn't know its better to take it with LOTS of water and I just had a sip before I went to class just to swallow the pill. Anyways, I started to panic because I thought I was having an allergic reaction to this because in the evening when I took it again, i had shortness of breath. I guess this is just an effective remedy with evil side affects.

I took it without water once. Well, I actually drank a glass of water and then took the capsules without taking another sip. They lodged in my throat and led to 2 severe ulcers in my esophagus.

I didn't put the events together for some time and neither did the doc: Couldn't eat for a long while.

Please take with water as directed.

My husband had stomach surgery 3 weeks ago and 6 days ago developed an infection and was prescribed Levaquin for 5 days. On the second day of taking it, he began to not be able to eat anything, then he couldn't tolerate water and went into retching fits. He is now inthe hospital being fed intraveneously. Has anyone heard of this side effect -- dry heaving, or inability to sip or drink or eat anything? He took his last dose yesterday.

I was given sulfameth/trimetoprim for and ear infection and the first dose made my tongue feel like it was swelling up,then I noticed my hands and feet were very cold, and I felt light headed, dizzy and my throat felt like it was swelling up or like i had a lump in my throat .By the time i got to my fifth pill i could not sleep,i could feel my heart beating in my back and when i took a sip of water it felt just like my thorat had a massive lumpin it. At that point i called my doctor and they said that i definitly had an allergic reation to the medicine. Now the doctor is going to switch my medicine but i am still feeling bad and am afraid to trust them with my health. These same doctors used to treat my 19 year old son for contipation, anxiety and as they put it "girlfriend trouble" which was actually insomnia but he ended up being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and passed away fourteen months later.stay away from this medicine and always ask questions and keep a log of your doctors and treatments.

I was given Sulfameth along w/ Flagyl for what my Dr. thought was diverticulitis. The pain (diverticulitis) went away by the fourth day of meds but on the fifth day I had other things going on. I thought I had the flu. I kept getting extremely hot (but didn't have a fever), then cold chills. My lower back ached terrible along w/ a major headache and I had never been so nausious in my life w/o vomitting. I couldn't even look at food or even sip water w/o feeling extremely ill. I was constipated as well. I kept making excuses for it all saying I must have the flu instead of suspecting the drugs I was on. On the 8th day I returned to the doctor and by now I was completely broke out and my face, ears and back of my upper arms felt like they were on fire. He knew immediately that it was a reaction to this drug! He advised me to stop taking both meds I was prescribed but didn't offer me any options for relief from the burning. I found spraying Solarcaine on my arms helped alot. I feel for everyone who has ever experienced this type or any type of reaction and for those who haven't...may you never have to.

I have been on Yasmin for about 6 months. I feel pretty much normal now. I was prescribed Yasmin for severe PMS. The only negative thing that has changed since I took it is that I get indigestion or gas easily now so I have to watch what I eat. That was never a concern before, and I never linked it to the pill but several others on this discussion board have mentioned that, so I made the connection today.
One thing I noticed is that most people posting here are posting about the drug on their first month and that is when your body goes through the most hormonal changes. So I'm not sure about judging yasmin from those posts.

Let's see, some people want to know how other body types have dealt with it.
I am 5'1 105 lbs D cup and everything has stayed the same. At first I lost about 5 pounds and had to run to the restroom any time I drank a sip of water but I am pretty normal now.
I felt very nervous about it the first 9 weeks because it was my first BCP. I was prescribed 3 packs in a row at first without the white pills and then went on to taking the normal dosage. During this time I had lots of spotting, but I think that was my body adjusting to the new 'schedule'. Now I have shorter periods than before and do not have extreme pms symptoms like before Yasmin. I am staying on it because this minor stuff is way better than vomiting and fainting and shaking every month.
