SIX HOURS POST REMOVAL- I had my mirena removed today after 3 years and nearly 3 months. My side effects included headaches, sore breasts, weight gain, nausea, severe hair loss, depression, severe pitting edema of my right foot, cramping, hip pain, exhaustion, severe mood swings, and acne. During the first six months I had constant bleeding, which I had been told to expect. I took regular pills everyday and the bleeding stopped. Then the hair loss started. My hair came out in clumps and was EVERYWHERE. I lost about 15 inches of my hair in spots. I went to the salon and got a fantastic hair cut, I attributed my hair loss to stress. Now I'm not too sure. I also didn't feel like I was myself with the odor that I developed. No matter how many times I showered I felt not regular. Slowly but surely over the past three years I have gained 30 lbs. I worked out to try to get the weight off, I lost nothing and in fact gained weight! The pitting edema of my left foot started in July of 08. I have been tested for everything including diabetes, heart problems, clotting disorders, pregnancy, high blood pressure, kidney problems, and the list goes on to the tune of $6,000. I went to my OB back in the spring and was told if they could find nothing else then they would remove the IUD. In the interim I lost my job and subsequently my insurance. I luckily was able to get coverage again and immediately set an appointment for the removal. Insertion hurt like nothing I have ever experience, removal was quick and almost painless. I also ended up with BV (bacterial vaginosis). I feel and look as though I am about 6 or 7 months pregnant. My belly is actually the same size as it was when my son was born. I weight about 15 lbs more. My breasts were extremely swollen and sore.

I instantly felt better after removal. My hip immediately stopped tingling. I have no back pain. It felt almost like a lifting if that makes sense. I am curious to see what the next few weeks will bring and I will definitely keep you all posted.

So let me tell you my experience...I started taking the generic form of Yasmin (Ocella), mind you I have been on four other birth control pills and had no problems. The first cycle I had with this pill I felt like I had the flu with no sinus symptoms, so I went to my doctor, it was flu season, did a flu test: negative. He told me it was just a virus and my body will kick it out in a few days...so I went back home and went back to bed...not six hours later I had a constipated feeling...go to the bathroom and I was having severe bloody diarrhea. I had to call my husband to come and get me to take me to the ER because my abdominal pain was so severe. The ER did a CT (yummy on the barium milkshake by the way, not!) they said I had colitis...went to a GI doctor and I went through 2 CT's, a colonoscopy, endoscopy, small bowel series, sonogram, and blood work to see if I was allergic to gluten and lactose...I was limited to jello and apple juice as my food supplements...I was STARVING for three months. I realized that when I would go to the ER they would give me antibiotics and I would feel better until about 24 hours after I ran out...I called my OBGYN and he told me flat out, stop taking the pill you are having ischemic colitis and it is a severe reaction to that pill you are taking...I also wound up having surgery because endometriosis runs in my family and he wanted to make sure mine didn't get any worse...which was wonderful...I quit taking the pill and I have to be on a pill due to hereditary gynecological issues...so I was put on Orth-Tri-Cyclin and Life is wonderful again!!! So for you ladies...some of you had it easy!! I almost had to get part of colon removed because they thought it was UC! Twelve weeks in a colostomy bag...NO THANK YOU!!

I was prescribed Compazine for nausea and it works like a dream! Nausea GONE. It sounds like the other posts here are citing an allergic reaction to the drug rather than a side effect.

The only side effect I had was drowsiness and I mean big time. About six hours after taking a dose I would have to take a nap because I couldn't keep my eyes open.

Six hours after taking my first mobic pill my face turned beet red along with my ears. Then my back and chest broke out with either rashes or hives. Then my face started to swell. Had to start taking benadryl immediately. Fortunately my tongue did not swell so I did not have to go to the ER. Following day the itching and rash were gone and most of the swelling in my face. Still had terrible bags under my eyes. I have taken other anti inflammatories with no problems, but my body does not like this drug.

i went in 4/15/09 to have the mirena put in...it wasn't scheduled with my normal ob...she was super nice but i wasn't dilated at all and i hadn't taken any ibuprofen or anything and it felt like i was going into labor...it was the most painful experience i had since i had my 8 month old daughter...anyways, she said she couldn't get my cervix to open enough and that my uterus was tilted and she didn't want to hurt me anymore so she said to reschedule for a week later with my doctor and to take 4 ibuprofen plus a darvocet before my appt...anyways a week goes by and I'm super nervous, i took the pain meds as i was told and my doctor came in and discussed the mirena with me and he actually took a tiny tiny needle and numbed my cervix which i didn't feel at all...i love my ob he's wonderful... anyways...two minutes later it was in...the process wasn't very painful...a little uncomfortable but no pain really...anyways, about six hours later the numbing agent started to wear off and the cramping was horrible, which I'm used to however because thats how i cramp with every period, but its been three days and i'm still cramping like i did the first day...not really bleeding, just like a yellowish thin discharge (that smells awful) its starting to make me feel dirty and after reading all of these comments I'm starting to wonder if the mirena is right for me...i'm 5'7'' and 125-130 lbs, i don't' want to gain weight, thats my biggest concern and the pain also...im not sure if i should have it taken out or leave it in for the first six weeks, till my check up appt...some of my other side effects are...very tired like wore out, i was moody and depressed to begin with but now its just worse...no acne or hair loss but like i said it's only been four days...does anyone have a suggestion for another method of birth control other than the pill....? please help i need some feed back...if you're going to comment back in response address me as sjm....that way i know you're talking to me...thanks much...sjm

I am a school teacher and got hit in the head by a student and suffered a severe concussion. I was having head swelling when I read, listen to any rhythms or use the computer. I get severe headaches after doing these activities which are most of my job. I am on worker's comp at this time and find that the doctors I had were horrible. The first two months I was on pain killers every six hours and they didn't work. Then I thought finally I thought I would get some relief when I got a neurologist. He put me on Topamax 25 mg the first week and then after 50 mg. He gave me Treximet even though I am allergic to Alleve he refused after that to give me anything for the onset of my migraines. I got really aggressive on Topamax. I was spacey. He then doubled my dose to 100 mg. The Dr. just said I didn't want to go to school even though I was getting worse and worse and could hardly take care of myself. . I was still having head swelling and headaches when I read etc. but my memory was gone and I was ready to throw thing and hurt others. My aggression was worse than when I had several courses of steroids years earlier. There were many times that I couldn't talk in sentences. I would forget what I was doing and also get lost. I was like an Alzheimer's patient. I couldn't get to my thoughts no matter how hard I tried. I have just got off Topamax and can now speak in sentences and the aggression is gone but my memory is still not completely back. I couldn't do simple subtraction or addition. I was better at it in the second grade than on Topamax. I couldn't remember 3 words after about ten minutes only one word. I couldn't draw a simple geometrical figure. I had all the same problems but on Topamax the addition of horrible side effects. The only side effect I could have used and didn't get was weight loss. My parents actually had to come and take care of me because I couldn't fill out the paperwork and also I couldn't even talk and was having fits and tantrums like a child. Thank goodness I had a regular Dr. that knew what was wrong and sent me to get weaned off Topamax. At that time I was told it would take 3 weeks to wean me off and there was no way I could go to school until it was out of my system. I kept telling the neurologist my side effects and even wrote him a letter explaining but he didn't pay any attention and acted like I was making it all up. I asked for a change of worker's comp doctors. He didn't like that at all and now I have to go for psychiatric testing before I go to my new worker's comp neurologist. All I want is to go back to school and to be able to do my job. I would have never had the memory, cognitive, reasoning, or speaking ability to get back to school taking Topamax.

I am 71 years old, I have been taking 80mg of ZOCOR ( Simvastatin ) for the past 16 years. five months ago I started to hurt in my lower back, hips,Knees, thighs, for two months then it traveled to my shoulders, wrist, hands, fingers. the Dr. gave me a round of prednisone (one shot and 11 pills) the pain stopped and everything was wonderful for two weeks, the Dr. stated that I had avused my body in the years gone by now the pain has started back in my shoulders, wrist, hands the pain is very strong, and my legs are starting to get weak again, I am taking Naproxen 500 mg two times a day and also taking Hydrocodne10mg every four hours also have Oxycodone 10mg to take every four to six hours, I have mentioned the results that I have read about the Statins in this forum but the doctor, does not act like it has any significance. does anyone have any suggestions??? if so please let me know, this pain is killing me, if you have any info. please email me at. ******

I had the Mirena inserted March of 08 just a little over a year after I had my first child. I would have rather gone through another drug free birth than have this thing inserted! I had such bad cramps I was taking 1000 mg of Ibuprofen every six hours and drinking 2-3 glasses of wine a night just to function. I had my period for 4 months solid and after a month of having the Mirena I felt as though I had a 2x4 nailed to my spine. I couldn't walk, sit, stand, even laughing hurt so bad it would bring me to tears. The pain finally went away after two months. Then I started to get thick chin hairs, they weren't highly visible unless I pointed them out or felt for them. Then the acne on my neck, hair line, chin, behind my ears, chin...everywhere! I am like any other female, a few blemishes here and there from my monthly period. I feel bloated all the time, never want to have sex, and when me and my husband do have sex....I spot for two weeks. Then the spotting goes away, we have sex and the NEXT DAY the spotting begins again for two weeks! We do not want to have anymore children but I would rather stick post it notes all over my house, car and even on my child to remind me to take the pill than go through this for another day. Each person is different, so I cannot tell you to do or not to do....just proceed with caution!!!!

I've been on Avaine for 2 months now... And I'm feeling so crappy right now. I've always had an irregular period, where I would miss a month or two then it would come back with a vengeance and last for almost a month in a half. I never had cramping until I started taking this pill. Last month it was so unbearable I was in the fetal position at my aunts house. She tried desperately to comfort me but nothing helped. I ended up going to the emergency room. I was given morphine and some other pain meds. The doctors thought it was my appendix at first so I was given an ultrasound and a cat scan. My ovaries were fine and everything was fine. Six hours in the emergency room and I was told it was really bad menstrual pain. How lame is that? Anywho I went to Australia with my bf and well yea you know... Now I think I'm pregnant... so thanx Avaine. Not sure what to do anymore, afraid if I stop I will most definitely become pregnant. I'm going to take a test.. not ready to be a mom. Cross your fingers for mr guys!

TWO PIECES OF ADVICE:
DO NOT DRINK alcohol within 6 hrs and EAT right before taking Toprol. This should help with all mentioned side effects!
I have noticed that if I drink ANY alcohol within six hours of taking Toprol (before or after), my HR skyrockets to 190+BPM. I thought this might help others. Also, I MUST eat at least 2 slices of bread each time I take it. Otherwise, I will feel very dizzy, faint and have bad dreams.
If I eat, I have no side effects.
Also, there have been a couple times where I missed a dose or took it late and each time, I feel my heart starting to race and the PVC's coming back.

I have been on 25 mg of Toprol for 6months due to PVC's and rapid/ racing HR (160+)/ palps and BP spikes. My 24hr Holter (six months ago) showed 370 PVC's in one day, so I was put on Toprol. All other heart tests were normal. Anyway, it has worked wonders for me. I had another Holter done last week and there were NO PVC's and steady HR and BP. Since being on Toprol HR is 65, BP is 105/60 or so.

I have been prescribed Prednisone after I had an adverse reaction to an antibiotic which i was taking after an insect bite became infected. I am covered in a sore extremely itchy rash of weels all over my body.

I took 6x5 mg of Presnisone with breakfast and as I was feeling ill because of the rash I took it easy and lay on the sofa suddenly about 60 to 90 minutes after taking the pills I had an overwhelming feel of wanting to be sick and diarrhea, my head was spinning and I came out in a cold sweat. I become very anxious and felt like I would die, so quickly and severely did this come upon me.

All I could do was lie down and let it pass. fortunately my husband was at home and I felt reassured that if needed he would ring for emergency treatment. after a while this feeling passed but did return about an hour later. It took about six hours before I could move my head without feeling sick.

I spoke to my GP on the phone and he said I shouldn't have had a reaction like that, it was not the usually side effect! Reading the post on this forum I think it most definitely a side effect of Prednisone.

Now I have to decide whether to take it again tomorrow I am still very itchy and the rash hasn't got any better but no worse. My GP suggested taking 3x 5mg for breakfast and 3x 5mg with lunch.

I only have to hopefully take it for one more day after that. I do feel for those of you who have no choice but to take.

Why do I think I landed here, I have been having very bad mood swings mostly relating to anger and dissatisfaction in everything and everybody. Put the mirena in April 2008, braved it out for 4 months with the
1. spotting and all the time kept thinking that my
2. fatigue and no interest in everything was due the stress of having 2 kids, work and the pregnancy weight that I have to shed.
3. I am hungry always (maybe since I am breast feeding the baby)
I had a copper IUD between my first and second son,
4. I don't remember how that was ( am I in a mental fog?). must have been better than this one. I never wanted anything hormonal. I don't want pills. Dont even know why I went with this then. I know the doctor convinced me saying it has very little hormonal effects

Yesterday, I just lost myself over a silly issue, now I feel I am going to lose my wonderful relationships with people. My 3 yr old asks me If I am not angry any more uh!!!. Why cant I call the doctor to get it removed when I doubt it could be the IUD.
5.I am lazy( another symptom).

Do I have to wait a little longer or take it out and maybe get my self back.?
(What a question to an obvious answer)
Confused!!! lazy!!

I dont know if it has anything to do with Topamax but i think i may be doing some weird stuff in my sleep or not sleeping as much as i think i am. i would call it cat napping. other than that, the first 2 months were horrible. i had the numbness in the hands and feet and i could never find what i wanted to say and i would stutter and feel like a dope. the doctor told me to wait it out for awhile and sure enough, the worst of the side effects went away. I still have problems finding things to say and im a bit more spacier but my seizures and my headaches and everything that was wrong is gone. Overall. its all good. I would just like to know what the heck im doing in my sleep and if its ever happened to anyone else. Maybe i should call my doctor. hah.

My 6 year old daughter has been off the Singulair for 5 days, after being on it for like 4 years. I have noticed some big changes for the positive... but she is still yelling at me when I have to get her up for school...and ight before bed. She is falling asleep a little better, and waking up less. But this screaming is so bad. I need to videotape it so people will believe me..as to how bad it is! Anyone else have some side effects still left, or did the all go away right away?

I have been on Wellbutrin for about a month. I am 31 and have never dealt with depression in the past. After a year and a half of one stressful event after another I started to feel life was just not turning out the way that I thought, but really thought that this was my life. After having some serious issues with my two kids, I am a single mother, I new that I needed to see a doctor. I couldn't get out of bed, felt detached from my family and pets. I had pushed the people who were most important to me away. After doing a lot of research on the internet I decided to discuss this med with my doc. At first it was pretty rough. Sleeping schedule was crazy, I was only sleeping a couple of hours a day but when I woke up I was not tired. I was extremely emotional. Crying for six hours straight one day. These are the only side effect that I had, but I felt much worse than I did dealing with my depression, which was pretty bad. HOWEVER, I continued to tell myself that these are side effects and I was willing to stay the coarse in order to get the benefit from treatment. During this time, I did have some good days or parts of good days which really gave me hope that eventually it would work. After about 3 weeks I felt better, the long bouts of crying had stopped and my sleep schedule returned to normal. Everyday after that I have felt more and more like myself. I didn't fully understand how depression had really affected all aspect of my life even in small ways. I think that I can't feel any better and then another day goes by and I realize that I can. The greatest thing is I can still feel things, can still get upset and have a good cry without it ruining my whole day. I think that is important as I am dealing with some very serious personal issues, thus the reason I need meds, but I know the importance of learning to cope with these issues as the are never going to go away. I feel like I have been saved and didn't even know that I needed this much saving.
I say all this because in my extensive research I have read a lot of these comments on many different sights and really didn't see myself or my experience. I have only read things that are scary and would make me think that depression is better than trying this drug. Everyone is different and the way they react to drugs is different, I completely understand that, but this drug has had an amazing affect on my life and the lives of my loved ones. If you have just started taking this and you think it is making you worse I beg you, stick with it, let the drug stabilize in your body and then decided if this drug is for you. I know that it is hard but there was a light at the end of my tunnel and there could be for you. Do not let a couple weeks of side effect put you off, or others negative experiences, if I had done that I would not be where I am. I know that I am getting better everyday. Remember this is a serious disease and it can not be fixed over night, if you had been prescribed an antibiotic for an illness you would expect for it to take some time to take affect. This drug is no different.

This method is just as unpleasant as the other methods I am sure. Unfortunately, this method did not work. Diarrhea did not start for over six hours. My colon was not cleared by 7:00 A.M. when they began the procedure. I was still having diarrhea as I arrived at the clinic. The test and agony were a waste of time and money. The colonoscopy results were inconclusive. This stuff is a joke. The doctor got his money and I got screwed. I will never again submit to this procedure after my experience with MoviPrep. Try something else instead.

I'm on Prednisone 20mg 3 times a day for 5 days..and Benadry tablets 25mg every six hours indefinite...When I take the Prednisone, i eat immediately after i take it...a pretzel, cracker a piece of bread or drink milk. I dont have stomach aches, nausea, moon face, DEPRESSION, none of that! Some of you are reporting horrible side effects after taking PredniSOne for only a few days...geez!

My hives are 'down' but they are still there. The itching is waaaaay down...but i feel that all of this will come back HARD when i run out prednisone.

I read that we could have chronic hives (those who have been diagnosed with chronic hives) because we could have a 'mass' (benign or malignant) in our bodies that is inflamming our systems. AND...it's time that we stop eating the foods and snacks that cause our bodies to 'flame up' because eating junk fastfood, etc cause hives also.

It's NOT just about allergies. It's about good health, diet and taking the medicine EXACTLY as it says on the prescription bottle instructions.

It's time you all go have MRI's, your mammograms, X-Rays, etc to see what it is that is causing the chronic hives. You may not have ANY symptoms but hives but maybe you have a mass somewhere in your body...check out everything. Be well.

My doctor put me on Lisinopril (10 mg) a week ago. On the third day, I felt fatigue, had a cough, entire body soreness, felt feverish, with flu symptoms. My doctor told me to stop taking it for three or four days and start it up again. I did. I felt better, especially on my forth day. I started it up again on a Monday and still felt okay, but the fatigue returned. Today, which is Saturday, I woke up feeling great. I didn't take the Lisinopril until noon time and from then on I have felt very tired. I laid down for six hours, slept two. I still have the cough and have decided to take the Lisinopril at night so that I may sleep better. I go back to my doctor the 11th of October and will let you all know how that turned out.

I've been taking doxycycline (100mg, twice a day) after a meal for Lyme for about two weeks now. So far my stomach has been pretty good, got a little nauseaous a few times but not too bad.
The main problem I've been having is a tingling feeling in my hands, arms, feet, legs and sometimes my lips (almost like I had novacaine six hours ago). It feels like the blood circulation is poor, if I get up and move around the tingling goes away. At night I've been having trouble getting comfortable due to this, feels like my arms are falling asleep.
Can anyone tell me how long this will last after I finish the doxy? I have about two weeks left. Thanks!

I am normally a very physically fit specimen, working outside every day. One 500 mg. tab of this poisencompletely debilitated me. Within six hours of taking levaquin I experienced excruciation soreness in my arms and shoulders. My throat swelled up and I could barely breath. I was perscribed steroids to stop the swelling - I took only ONE 500 mg time release tab 7 days ago and today I am still experiencing incredible pain.I am so sore I can't sleep. If anyone wants to start a call action suit I am in - I have NEVER sued anyone - but I am furious.Any advise out there as to how I can flush this poisen out of my system?

I had surgery and and my orthopedic gave me Meprozine 50/25. I was to take 2 capsules every six hours. Not once did I feel... anything! My husband said that I would sit, look off into space, and drool. I don't remember anything but being thirsty! Now this is pain relief! When I went off of it, I had some mean withdrawal symptoms.

My 52 year old wife had a painful capsulitis in one arm that just did not get better. In the absence of her regular doctor, we went to a walk-in clinic for help for the unrelenting pain. She was given two injections of Kenelog withing 14 days of each other. The pain in the arm started to recede but a few days after the second shot, we had to admit her into a hospital emergency department for severe heart palpitations, extreme weakness in her legs, tingling and numbness in her hands and fainting. She was stabilized over six hours, blood tests were done and an electrocardiogram was done. She was negative in all the tests. It is now almost eight weeks later and she continues to experience palpitations irregularly and continuing fatigue that forces her to lie down at work and curtails her usual activities. None of this had ever happened to her before the second Kenelog shot. Her doctor has now had her screened for liver and kidney inflamation and she will have an echocardiogram in ten days. She has also seen a hematologist for interpretation of the blood tests. She is anxious and depressed by all this and feels frightened about the severe fatigue that keeps on hitting her. She'll never let herself have another Kenelog shot as long as she lives!!!

ALS, does anyone know if Prednisone can cause ALS, I have been on and off Pred. for years for my asthma and COPD, mostly the asthma attacks. I am on Oxygen 24/7. In the past 3 months I have been in the hosptial twice, for low oxygen levels, and severe asthma attacks, the first 2 night stay they had me on 160 mg every six hours. When I first went to the ER, I was unable to say more them 1 word at a time. That improved, but when I went home, I had slurred speech, it has gotten worse, due to my G.E.RD., I have always had a little trouble swallowing, but now it is much worse. Due to my 2 hospital stays, I was on Prednisone 24 days. Now they say I may have ALS, that is almost a death sentence. I had a MRI, no major strokes just tiny TIA,s

I've only been on Advair for a week, and feel as if my shoulders are permanently welded to my ear lobes. The past two nights I've had the worst charlie horses I can remember ever having, and I don't remember having any for about thirty years. My heart is racing, my bp is up to 143/97 when it was 120/72 last week. I can't sleep more than six hours, and I'm up two or three times a night to eat because I'm constantly hungry. Yesterday I noticed hoarseness setting in. Today I'm calling the doc.

I'm so grateful for this site, and for the Internet. I don't check for side effects before I take meds, but I seem to have alot of them, and this site is the easiest one I've found to find info from other users.

Thank you, thank you.
