My housemate started Lisinopril 5 months ago and he is now a totally different person. What was once a swee,t giving guy is now a cranky, bad tempered person that I don't even know. He has no sex drive, his taste is so altered that he's cut way down on eating and has lost so much weight he looks like a skeleton. He's always sleeping and has no energy to do anything. He complains of cramping, back aches, hoarseness, cough and I could go on and on. I made him stop the drug 3 days ago and I'm praying that the effects will go away soon. I'm so happy I found this web site and that there are others that are in the same boat-I don't feel like I'm battling this alone.

I have been on prednisone since I was two years old (I am now sixteen) because I have Autoimmune Hepatitis IIa. I would like to point out that there is still a life worth living being on prednisone, maybe I say this because I do not know life without it, but at least we're alive! Last year I had a flare up of the AIH and had to 6x my dose of prednisone. It sent me into a spiraling depression of constant sleep, crying, hopelessness etc....but I made it through. Just PLEASE keep hope that things would get better, because I know what it's like being on the dreaded drug better than most.

I have been taking Aviane going on my 3rd month, and I really have not experienced any side affects. In my first 2 weeks I did feel the urge to snap at people, but I was able to control it. I had come across this site the night before I started taking Aviane and was pretty horrified, lucky I have not experienced anything awful. Other than my first 2 weeks with having mood swings, since Ive been taking Aviane it has made me loose weight to the point that you can see my sternum, Ive been able to control not loosing anymore by eating higher calorie foods. So if you have the same problem it's easily fixable to not look like a skeleton. I have also noticed that during my last week and a half before my 'period' pill, I have become bloated, that entire almost 2 weeks. Some days it is worse than others, but the bloating really hasn't effected me severely, and I can deal with the bloating for only 3 days of my actual period. Which has slowed down immensely. I was a very heavy bleeder during my past period history, and Aviane has almost subsided my period all together. Which is wonderful. Overall I have no complaints about Aviane unlike a lot of girls who have posted things. I was really scared after I read these posts before I started my b.c. but all you have to do is go for it. You'll know if a birth control is right for you within the first month. Every birth control affects everyone differently. (I took Yasmin before - It made me gain 40 POUNDS in the first month, no joke. It was horrible.)

53 year old female who has taken "F" for almost 2 years - the past two months was the generic version. Have noticed a gradual onset of joint pain and heart palpitations, but am not one to see a doc unless I feel like I'm dying... So I wrote it off to aging. (-:
A friend recently mentioned that she had heard that Fosamax causes bones to be brittle, which caused me to wake up, look around and see what people are saying and what new articles or research are out there. Yeah, sure - there are lawsuits. Not a surprise in our litigious society. More importantly, however, are the comments from real people. Thanks to you who've posted your experiences!
I stopped the drug several weeks ago and seem to have an increase in joint paint. But I'm not going back to Fosamax! Also interesting to me is that around the same time I stopped the drug, I experienced an uncharacteristic downward shift in my mood/mental state. Not sure if there's a correlation to the drug or not...
It is reassuring to see some comments from people who indicate they feel better after weeks/months of being Fosamax free. I am a "gym rat" and very fit/weight appropriate. Weight training and nutrition will be my treatment of choose for osteopenia for now. With time, I am confident that the symptoms I'm experiencing will subside. And any future ailments for which I am prescribed a drug will be very carefully researched by me beforehand.
Be careful out there and stay informed!

Prednisone is a catabolic steroid, not anabolic which increases muscle, so people should know that continued use over time will literally break down and destroy muscle tissue. Without muscle, a person has no way of even standing more than a few seconds and could suffer many falls.....these falls are worse on the prednisone patient because prednisone also effects bone density and multiple disc fractures can result, leaving the person wheelchair bound.

How do I know? That's what happened to my mom. Also, if you are in a nursing home and contact scabies, forget about ever getting rid of them prednisone supresses the immune system so it can't kill them off, even with all the meds and treatments out there for scabies. Again, my mom.

I am an active 63 year old male. I have been on 10mg lipitor for 5 years and have experienced a very gradual muscle degeneration in my legs, feet numbness & tingling and hair loss from my ankles up. I have been to a neurologist, two Chiropactors, and Physical therapy and got some relief, but these symptoms never really disappeared. Recently, my bad cholestrol level increased and my doctor doubled my level to 20mg. After a month, my symptons are now worse and I can hardly get out of bed in the morning with sore muscles in my legs. I have had full skeleton x-rays and MRI's and Bone Bi-op. and have been cleared from other problems such as cancer. I have a strong feeling that my problems are from Lipitor. My doctor is in love with the drug. I am going to stop the Lipitor for a month regardless and see what happens. Joe
