I was on Minocycline (a cousin to Doxycycline Hyclate) for years. I’m not sure how long exactly as I didn’t write down the date that I started, but I believe I have been on it around 3-4+ years. Well I went to a dermatologist and he instantly looked at the outer area of my arms (just above the elbow) and recognized I am suffering from skin discoloration, and prescribed Doxycycline, and told me to stop taking Minocycline right away. I also have this blue-gray skin discoloration on my back near my shoulder blades. I took my Minocycline for the next two weeks till the Doxycycline came in then stopped the minocycline, and started Doxycycline on Sunday. I take a 100mg pill twice daily with a meal, and thus far have had no issues. Keep in mind that I have been on Minocycline for the past 4 years or so and maybe I’ve been suffering similar side effects on that drug, thus I would be unable to see the difference with Minocycline’s cousin Doxycycline. I am pretty sure the first year or two that I was on Minocycline I was depressed (other things in life may have contributed to this depression, but now that I see all of these people saying they have had mood swings, I must state that I have had many more mood swings in recent years then I ever remember before being on these meds). I have also been extremely sleepy the past few years. I used to NEVER be able to fall asleep in public, but (I believe about the same time I started Minocycline) I gained the ability to sleep anywhere. Now I mean, anywhere. I can sleep even after I get anywhere between 6 and 14 hours of sleep. I have had approx 7-9 hours of sleep on average for the past 6 months, yet am always tired. I can’t remember the last time I haven’t been sleepy, and have had many doctor visits to attempt to discover the reason for this, but hadn’t read the side effects of Minocycline. I’ve still been pretty sleepy since Sunday, but I’ll hope that this Doxycycline isn’t as bad. Anyone else have a similar issue, where you used to be awake, but now you are always sleepy (wake up in the mornings a bit dizzy and confused), and have a hard time concentrating on one thing at a time?

I posted not too long ago as my symptoms first began creeping up on me, high chloesterol, depsite a lot of exercise and eating healthy and having a normal body fat percentage. (AND I MEAN SO HIGH THAT I SHOULD WEIGH 500+ pounds)! I also have vitiligo, this causes skin discoloration and began having muscle aches and trouble sleeping at night. I had been on Yasmin for a little over a year and taken a break for 3 months before getting back on and symptoms started creeping up 2-3 months after coming back on Yasmin. I have aslo began to have hair loss in the past few months, gained 17 pounds in 4 months despite excerising and eating healthy. I began having hert palpitations and my late night writing can be attributed to trouble sleeping and overwhelming anxiety. I also have a lower sex drive now and am very depressed. I have been off Yasmin despite my doctor not believing a low dose pill could be causing all this, for one month. I have had withdrawals without a doubt, I am having severe breakouts, my breasts are so tender air caused by a fan hurts them and I want to cry all the time. The worst thing of all is my doctor won;t believe me, but how else can all this be happening. Blood tests ruled out thyroid and anemia as culprits as well as pregnancy (apparently I wouldn't notice that the 17 pounds was really a baby-what are these doctors thinking I know my body!). I hear all your symptoms and I wish I could say that they go away as soon as you get off the pill, but I can say if you just got on and things seem to be great realize I was on it for over a year and swore by it becasue it was the first pill that seemd to help with my emotions and cramps...but that all changed and my life feels like it is crashing down. I may never convince my doctor that yasmin is doing this to my body...they don't blieve me that I'm not eating fast food and siiting on my butt eating fatty foods all day and that is why I'm gaining weight and have dangerously high chloesterol, but I hope I can convince you all. I have had bad luck with all pills, I am allergic to spermicide and can't use diaphrams, I had my period for a month solid on the shot, but what Yasmin is doing to me makes me worry that my life is truly at risk...I would rather deal with cramps that are crippling than be ridiculed by doctors and hate myself the way yasmin makes me fo.

I took Yaz for 3 months. I had been on Mircette prior to this for about 7 years. When I switched to Yaz, I became a completely different person. I had fits of rage. I would become irate and angry very easily. I wasn't depressed or any side effects like that, but it made me VERY irritable.

But worse than that, is that I developed skin discoloration from this medication. My face has weird patches of discoloration that worsen in the sun. Even though I have switched to Mircette, and the discoloration still persists. None of this started until I began Yaz.

I have been on LoEstrin 24 for about 5 months. At first it worked great for me. My period lasts about 3 days. However, my sex drive SUCKS. And I have also noticed a skin discoloration on my upper lip. My dermatologist told me that this is due to the BC. I am looking to go back to Ortho Lo now.

I have been on topamax for almost a year now. I had been having a nearly constant migraine cycle for three months which had to be broken with migranol nasal spray. I then started on escalating dosages of topamax. By 100mg I realized that life was wonderful but that I couldn't retain much information which was a problem as I had just gone back to school for an advanced degree. Upon consultation with my doctor, we reduced my dosage to 50mg and things improved dramatically.

I have experienced some fingertip and toe tingling which have been completely tolerable. I take the medication right before bed so that I don't have problems with fatigue during the day. I do get out of breath easily when I exert myself and carbonated beverages taste horrible. But my migraines are under control.

I have a Ph.D. in molecular biology and a few years of neuroscience research under my belt. I would like to say that it is EXTREMELY important for people to understand that no medication is going to work identically for any two people. What works for one person, may not work for everyone. I know people who swear by imitrex but this medication does absolutely nothing for me. You have to be your own advocate when it comes to medications and treatments. Your genetics will also determine how well, if at all, you respond to any medication. For some topamax is a life saver, for others it will be the bane of their existence. This will always be the case for any medication. Be tolerant of others' experiences and understanding of each others' pain and progress will be made.

I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. I developed a rash which is associated with discolored skin. I stopped taking the drug and I am still experiencing hives in various degrees as well as skin discoloration.

I took Yasmin for four years and just stopped 3 months ago. While on Yasmin I did not notice/realize that some problems I experienced may have been due to Yasmin. I had extreme dryness with my contacts throughout the last year of taking it. Also, last summer I got melesma (mask of pregnancy) on my upper lip! It looked like I had a mustache, but it was skin discoloration. This, plus the desire to have a baby sometime in the next year or so, prompted me to stop taking the pill. I have had one late period so far and now it's been 45 days without a period. Someone posted that they have been experiencing mucus that appears to be the type one has when fertile. I have experienced this, too, off and on throughout the last 45 days. I have heard that it can take up to 6 months to have normal periods again, but everyone's posts are scaring me that I may never be normal. On the other hand, a friend of mine went off of her bcp (another type) and got pregnant within the first month. I suppose that everyone's bodies are so different that it's hard to know what's really going on.

Podiatrist gave me a total of 2 injections containing Kenalog into the top of my forefoot for an injury (I banged my foot, but no broken bones). About 2 months after the 2nd injection, I noticed an indentation and skin discoloration directly beneith an injection site. Now many months later, I have lost a significant amount of the fat pad on the ball of my foot. I have chronic pain in the ball of my foot. I wonder how the Kenalog has affected the muscles or bones in my foot, since it destroyed the fat pad.

This podiatrist NEVER mentioned that there are possible side effects of steroid injections. He only stated positive things about the shots, and I didn't know any better. If he had told me that there were side effects like fat pad atrophy, I would NEVER have let him inject my foot. My foot would have been fully healed today had I not received those injections, but instead ended up with a chronic condition!

I was on Yasmin for 10 months. After crazy side effects, skin discoloration (People actually told me I looked 10 years older!), decreased appetite, and the worst of all not only weight gain, but inability to lose weight on Yasmin. I would work out 4 to 5 times a week, and my weight would not budge. It was a horrible feeling. sex drive went out the door for ten months! I got off the pill in May. Since then, My normal skin color has slowly started to come back, My clothes are starting to feel loose again, and my moods aren't as crazy!! Yasmin is a horrible Birth control pill. Doctors will keep telling us that it's not the pill thats making us this way, thats cause they aren't dealing with it!!!
