Irregular menstrual periods, muscle cramps in pelvic region, lower abdominal pain, vaginal dryness, vaginal discharge, vaginal odor, frequent urination, pain with sexual intercourse, breast tenderness, no libido, weight gain, fatigue, acne, skin bumps, dry skin, change in skin texture, headache, migraine, depressed mood, anxiety, and mood swings.

I had my Mirena IDU inserted in October of 2007. It was "the best thing ever", at the time. I initially bled for 5 months, just a light bleeding, but bleeding non the less. The discharge has never went away. During and even after the bleeding stopped- I started having an odor. I had NEVER had an odor of any kind down there before. I failed to realize that my skin issues that started a month after insertion were related, as well as the headaches. My husband was in Korea when I got the Mirena, so it wasn't until he came home on leave that I realized the pain with intercourse, vaginal dryness, and breast tenderness. The acne, no libido, depression, anxiety, mood swings, weight gain, and fatigue started about 4 months ago. Today I woke up with horrible cramping. I will have a mild cramp about once a month for a second, but none so sever as today. In doing my research I have found that all of the problems that I have been having are linked to the IUD. Granted, it could just be a big coincidence. I'm still calling the hospital on Monday morning and making an appointment to get it removed. That's if my pain doesn't go away and I make it to the ER first. I'll keep you ladies updated on my "recovery". Good luck!

NuvaRing was great for me for years and then I began experiencing most of the symptoms noted by others. However, when my LYMPH NODES become ENLARGED AND PAINFUL I realized it was time for me to take out the ring and give my body a rest from the foreign substance. Once I removed the ring completely, within two-weeks my HAIR BEGAN TO FALL OUT each time I washed it. After weeks, my JOINTS became so INFLAMED I could not walk even though I had been working out four-days per week for many years prior. I also experienced HAIR AND SKIN TEXTURE CHANGES, and ONGOING FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS which included: BODY ACHES, SEVERE FATIGUE, NIGHT SWEATS (DRENCHING), HEADACHES AND WEIGHT LOSS. I saw numerous doctors to try to figure out what was happening to my body. After over a year, I was diagnosed with an AUTOIMMUNE condition (SLE). It has been two-years now, since permanently removing NuvaRing, and my condition has improved with time but my IMMUNE SYSTEM is still out of whack and my LYMPH NODES ARE STILL ENLARGED throughout my body. If anyone else has these systems and has been diagnosed with an AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER after using NuvaRing, please respond. CAUTION: please be careful young women as added hormones are not good for our bodies and really should not be pushed so readily by the health care profession. Also, keep in mind that your doctor will not back you when you are experiencing problems from medications that he/she prescribed. You will ultimately be told that the medication did not cause the problem in order for him/her to avoid becoming a party to a lawsuit.

I have has the Mirena for 3 months. The first month I bled and cramped everday for the entire month. I workout at least 4 times a week whether it's at home or the gym but for this last month I have gained at least 7 pounds. I have also noticed that my hair sheds more often. I also get acne on my chest and chin area.

Is CONNIE who wrote on the forum in Aug of 2005 still reading this? If so I have a question for you. I saw that you wrote that you had severe skin changes especially facial skin texture as that is a symptom I have experienced and have not seen many people complain about. I noticed my skin, especially on my face become wrinkly and sensitive, I seem lose volume in my face and the texture of my skin went from oily, resistent, tight skin to dry, sensitive, and mushy feeling. It even hurt to put sunscreen on it (it felt like it was burning my skin.) Even off the Yasmin my skin continued to feel this way, even get worse for a month or so, and then it seemed to start back the other way. Its now oily again, but the texture is still not the same as it used to be, especially around my mouth. I am wondering if your skin ever felt back to normal again. I still get tingling feeling sometimes and it still seems swollen at times. I have been off the yasmin since end of Nov. 2005. Anyone else with this similar side effect? Also I had/have a real sensitive scalp off and on with dryness on the scalp and hair.

I began taking Yasmin Dec. 2004 on my ob-gyn's advice. (My previous pill, which I had been on for years before and between pregnancies, was making my breasts very tender and sore but otherwise was OK to be on.) Within one month, I noticed several changes in my health and mood that I initially thought might go away after my body "got used to" the new birth control pill. Unfortunately, the symptoms did not go away and other even worse symptoms appeared. These symptoms included the following:

1. feelings of chest constriction and tightening
2. heart pounding/racing for no reason
3. inability to sleep (and thus fatigue and tiredness all the time)
4. severe changes in skin texture (esp. facial)--leathery and sallow
5. excessive anxiety, worry, depression, and feelings of panic (NOT AT ALL my personality prior to taking Yasmin)
6. development of asthma-like symptoms that turned out to be symptoms of acid reflux disease (which I had NEVER had before in my life!)
7. a general and pervasive sense that I was just not the normal me--I know this is not very "clinical" but it was very very disturbing to me and my family--everyone noticed changes in me
8. a dangerous jump in my blood pressure--prior to Yasmin my blood pressure was never higher than 120/70 (which is about what it was in Dec. 2004 at the office visit where I got my first pack of Yasmin)--not even at any point in my two preganancies! Yet in Feb. 2005, my resting blood pressure was 160/90 and was even higher (180/100) at times!
9. From Dec. 2004 through March 2005 (which is when I got off of this terrible medication), I was sick virtually non-stop with some type of cold or flu every 2 weeks--yet no one else in my household was getting sick!
10. a near complete loss of sex drive

As I have read from women in other postings, both my GP and ob-gyn (both of whom are women incidently) also said these effects could NOT be because of Yasmin. The only doctor that indicated he believed there might be a link between my symptoms and Yasmin was the ear-nose-throat guy who diagnosed my reflux.

I am writing to tell other women that I do firmly believe these health problems were DIRECTLY related to taking Yasmin--I noticed improvement in my health in all areas within about 6 weeks of stopping Yasmin--now several months later, I have normal blood pressure once again and my reflux has resolved itself, I'm the old "me" again (my Dad especially was terribly bothered by how my outlook on life had changed in just a couple of months after starting this pill). I'm 41 years old and have never had any type of emotional or health problems prior to taking Yasmin.

I contacted the manufacturer of Yasmin (Berlex) and made a report about the adverse effects I believe were attributable to taking Yasmin--I urge anyone who feels this drug has impacted their lives in a negative way to also do so. I have also made clear statements to my docs about what I believe happened to me in the 3-4 months I was on this stuff.

I felt such a wave of relief when I first found this Web site--it was like reading 100s of e-mails that could have been written by me!! I actually called my Mom sobbing on the phone after reading several pages from this listing on Yasmin--everything that was happening to me had happened to other women also, and I stopped taking Yasmin immediately.

I wish anyone who has gone down this road the best of luck--while doctors are usually good, educated people who try to improve people's lives, they are NOT infallible--if you believe Yasmin or any drug is affecting you negatively, be proactive about your own health no matter what your doc says--there are always options. To this day, despite how dramatically different my health is compared to earlier this year, my docs still will not say that they feel Yasmin was the root cause of my problems. (I guess it is the price you pay when so many people are afraid of lawsuits and such.)
