Sleep doctor symptoms and conditions

I took my first Cymbalta this am and it is like nightmare starting all over again. I took Wellbutrin for about 6 years and several times a week, when I tried to go to sleep, my hips, feet and legs would begin to hurt. Then every time about 3 seconds after I'd actually fall asleep I would have a severe myoclonic jerk and scream out. This showed up on a sleep study. The doctor showed me and my husband the video. He said it was the strangest thing he'd ever seen and planned to take the video to the next conference he went to. Everyone, pharmacists, doctors and neurologist said it couldn't be coming from medication. The sleep doctor put me on Ambien CR, but after almost pulling out in front of a car that I swear wasn't there a split second ago, no more ambien. Another doctor put me on Clonopin which has helped. After going on Lacmictal as a hormone/mood stabilizer and tapering off Wellbutrin, after almost instantly six the myoclonic jerks totally stopped. Was doing well until increased the dose of Lamictal from 100 to 200mg. Followed package increased as instructed. At 200mg felt like ants were crawling all over me. Immediately came back down to 100, then to 50 then to 25mg. No lunch. Stayed off of Lamicatal for about a month, and tried 50 mgs. Still itching almost as soon as I took it. Am doing pretty good on Clonopin for complex PTSD and Concerta for ADD but still have depression severe mood swings. My new Doctor insisted Cymbalta was exactly what I needed. After just one dose the myoclonic jerks started again. Had 5 in about 30 minutes, again, 3 to 4 seconds after I go sleep. And my feet, legs and hips hurt again, every time I lay down. Is there no end to this misery? It seems you just cannot win. I just need to vent and find another sympathetic soul who has been there. I think my husband has had about all he can take, and I can't say as I blame him. Thanks for letting me express my frustration.

Has anyone's kids had trouble sleeping since taking Singular. My son has been on it for a couple weeks and seems not to be able to go to sleep very easy. Also it seems to wear off kind of fast, by bedtime he's stuffy and itchy.

Update: Our son has been off of singulair since the 28th of March.....he had experienced most of complaints and ailments that affect other children. Since then, he is still tough to get to sleep - probably a 3 year old thing - but is better that before. He is also sleeping much more soundly and waking on the right side of the bed. He is still complaining of the leg cramps and sometimes still limping around for a while, and also complaining of stomach aches... I suspect those too should disappear after some time, however, he is no longer complaining that the lights and sun hurt his eyes. It is as though a major fog has been lifted - he is listening to us more the first time we speak rather than having to fight over things such as cleaning, or behaving. He is not as physical with us or his brother as before. And, the most important thing....he seems truly HAPPY - he has been napping all week at day care, and is proud of his accomplishment! He is focused in Karate class - listens to his Sir - engages in the activity with the other children - is more vocal and energetic....and once again PROUD! His Karate teacher - Sir - noticed an immediate difference in our beloved son - he was so surprised that Singulair is to blame - he said that our son is a complete different child without a trace of the drugged, insecure, and quiet boy he knew a week ago.
This Saturday our little boy will be testing for his yellow belt and he is so excited that he can hardly contain his HAPPINESS!!!!!

One last thought though.....I am extremely worried of any lasting mental or physical implications this drug could have on him - what does the future hold for our son - could this drugs nasty side effects cause some crazy long term side effect we have yet to see???

In response to those who praise the virtues of Lipitor, I will tell you that I was on 10 mg/per day regimen for the past six and a half years. I first noticed bizarre weakening of my legs last summer but because I am 78, I at first attributed this to old age, but because the onset was so rapid and unexpected, I discounted what was happening at being due to my age. Then on Dec. 6, I was awaked by pain in my lower left leg so severe that I was literally crying. I could only hobble to my doctor the following day and he, by way of response to my question about Lipitor, suggested I stop taking it. He also gave me a prescription (thank God) for vicadin without which I do not believe I could have survived until today. I am still unable to walk more than a quarter mile or remain on my feet for more than a half hour or so. In looking back now, I began having sleep problems about four years ago, sleep apnia being suggested. However, my sleep doctor also said that I had RLS (restless leg syndrome) for which he prescribed chlonazapam. I have had recurring problems these past few years with my legs cramping up when I would drive any distance. When I recently informed my cardiologist of these experiences, he pretty much brushed me off by saying at while 2-3% of Lipitor users experience problems, on the whole it is a beneficial drug. In other words, they know that some folks are going to experience problems, but that's just too bad. What happened to the medical adage, "Above all, do no harm."

I'm glad I found this board! My doctor was real adament about me not going off of Advair, which was a total change in the normal doctor she has been. I told her I didn't have a problem when I was on Flovent and Serevent, which another doctor had prescribed years earlier. I thought the stressful situation I was going through caused my high blood pressure, but after hearing Advair could cause this I began to question whether or not it was for me. My doctor's attitude has me wondering if they get some kind of kickback for putting patients on it.

Does anyone know if the side-effects can be reversed? I've had the raspy throat, bumps in my mouth that she said were stress related and to avoid acidy food to help get rid of it, my blood pressure is up and I've gained weight where my weight was stabalizing for awhile. Again, I attributed it to stress. Now...I'm wondering!

I tried Asthmacort years ago and it didn't work for me. I'm going to ask her to try Pulmacort next. Singulair helped until I went around a stray we'd taken in for a week and it has gotten my asthma out of control now. I took the Advair again, but want to go to the doctors with info to take her to back my reasoning for changing meds. If she continues to have an attitude...I may change doctors. I'm not going to stay on something not good for me. As is, I have to go to a sleep doctor next week. Now I'm wondering if some of those problems are Advair too and I do have the frequent urination.
