I have been on Solia, a generic for Desogen for about a year and a half. I just finished up my last pack and am never taking it again. It is horrible. Weight gain, extremely moody, irritable, depression, nothing positive on this pill other than it kept me from getting pregnant. I had the Essure procedure and highly recommend it, if you do not want kids get it over with and get Essure, get off the pill, especially this one.

I switched from Solia (a generic brand of Ortho-Cept) and started Yasmin last sunday because I had terrible side effects on my last BCP. First off, I am on Birth Control because of Polycycstic Ovarian Disease, so I'm also on Aldactone, which can have a problem with Yasmin. *Sigh*
I was so happy to get off Solia and get away from the side effects that I endured for 3 months! But since starting yasmin (just 7 days ago) I have had just about the same side effects as the last pill... and then some!
Old ones that came back when starting yasmin:
Bloating
Breast Tenderness and swelling (to the point where I'm getting nasty STRETCH MARKS)
Acne all over my chest
Low Sex Drive
Now I'm noticing some new things as well as the old:
Severe Daily Headaches (some of them turn into migranes)
nausea
fatigue, Ive yet to spend a full day awake since starting.
Acne on my face in ODD places (around my eyes???!)
NO sex drive
My gyn told me that I would know if this pill was right for me after a week or so... and it's been a week and I KNOW that Yasmin just ISN'T right for me. I'd rather be on the other one I was on! It was MUCH better! (And in actuality it was TERRIBLE)
I'm calling my doctor on monday and requesting something different to start at the end of my next period. Perhaps Ortho-Low or something...
So glad to see that a lot of people are posting here and talking about what happened to them while on Yasmin!! Its very helpful for those of us who are just starting to experience these problems!

Reading through these postings, I am surprised that so many women out there have had negative experiences with Desogen. I have had an extremely positive experience with Solia (the generic). It got rid of my preexisting, extremely painful premenstrual cramps, lightened my flow, didn't cause weight gain or bloating, cleared up my skin tone, and the melasma that is known to occur with high dosage pills didn't even happen to me. Conversely, I tried Yasmin about a year ago for about 5 months and it drove me bloody mad - intense food cravings, cramps came back, increased irritability - you name it, I had it. My advice to all the women out there is you really just have to try various pills until you find one that works for you. It's unfortunate and inconvenient, but if the side effects are significant enough to motivate you to research them online, then you owe it to yourself to switch pills.
